Thank you! This was so helpful! I have a BRAND NEW hardcover journal and I guess that the glue was defective because it came apart just like this one the first time I opened it and a big chunk of dried glue also fell out 😩. I’m hoping this works fingers crossed
Thats a different kind of spine. There are quite a few different kinds. Afaik this seems to be a “perfect” spine. The one you mentioned has better support though.
I have a record case that holds several records by the same composer that is cut at one of the edges from top to the any recommendations on how to fix it ?
Watch out for self-adhesive products, they always start to harden and fail after a decade or so. Generally irreversible too. OK for basically worthless books but never use on a valuable book. Yes the book will be "rock solid" because Rebecca has ignored how it was originally bound. It will not now lie flat as intended and as a result the hinges and spine will be over-stressed and fail again causing the cover to come off once more.
The reason it split in the first place is because it was poorly made. There should be a hollow in the spine... this didn't have one to start with so straight away it was under stress. The same thing is going to happen again, I'm afraid. I'm afraid the book block shouldn't attach to the spine at all.
*nod* This entire batch was all degrading in the same way. I periodically grabbed the ones falling to pieces to the worst extent and tried to patch them back together. These were the copies being used in the student choir room at a Catholic school. They got dropped on the floor, they fell off the shelf, etc. They had a hard life in addition to being shoddy on arrival. I wasn't going for archival quality, here--and I made the video yrs ago specifically for anybody else wanting to try to extend the life of the same books.
@@rebeccawalker1819 Oh no not in a rude way, i thought maybe the information was top secret and at the moment i said " Oh no is this information going to put her job on the line!?" Very good video 😃👍🏼
Great thanks🤗 ..easy to listen to,and I liked your tips… esp. utilizing the clamps to hold the book up.
Thank you! So helpful. One of my books, a real heavy one, completely broke off one side of the cover like that one and I just started reading it😭
Oh no! Good luck with fixing it.
Thank u so much. I didn't know what to do with my book after watching this video it gave me an idea to repair.
Thank you, Rebecca. I will be watching your video several times, then repair my book.
Dang, what a great video! I hope you make more one day
Thanks Rebecca, very clear step by step I followed here
Thank you!! Love how well you spoke 😍

That is the worst! Good luck putting it back together. *cross fingers*
fantastic! thank you very much!!!
I thought the cover spine was supposed to be separate from the book, so it bows out instead of in when the book is opened. Is that not right?

WAY TO GO GIRL
Thank you! Very helpful and practical!
What's more important me, or gluing covers back on hymn books with Edgar Coleman?

is there a difference between book tape and heavy packing tape?
Useful! Great vid 😃

That's a very good point--thanks!
Do you have alternative fixes?
Yes, trawl through DAS Bookbinding videos to see how this type of work is done so as to be fully reversible and long lasting - the only way really.
В итоге скотчем залеплено, да?
Thank you. What was the self adhesive linen for?
It helps keep the pages together and binding tight.
Where is the self adhesive linen tape used? Do you put it on after the book is dried, 48 hours later? I'm not sure how you use it.
How did it look when you opened it
Totally normal. As long as the end pages are still attached (or you make replacements), there is no issue with appearance.
Don't glue down to the book case. Oh, two problems is the same as a couple of problems. US thing me guessing. 😢

I'm just curious, why do you have what look like empty boxes affixed to your wall?

Just that glue + brush set are more expensive than buying a new book :/ Dang. I wanted to repair my old book instead, and save money.
Really? That's like a $2 paint brush and ModPodge from Target! You could always use something like Elmer's glue if you get desperate.
@@rebeccawalker1819 Oh probably. I looked on amazon. They usually raise the prices quite high.
