The ideas of a crawl space for smoke and a second roofing layer to hide all the smoke is quite impressive. I tried making a tall chimney with a slope on the way up so the fire wont stare directly into the sky but that make the smoke clog up on that 45 angle slope making the second floor look really bad. With your method the chimney is no longer needed Great video
I use smoked floors to create a sauna like look on floor higher... Also for hot tub, you can just build a wall in betwen so smoke and fire are outside house.
Thanks for the video. I also like builds that don't have a chimney. I found I could have all kinds of ovens, smelters, etc under ground beneath the Elder mount and even without a window or open door the smoke spread out in the open space. So bigger rooms are less an issue for smoke, too.
You actually don't need that much space either. For the hearth, you just need a 4 meter vertical space with something that contains the smoke at the top. A 1 meter wall surrounding the hearth (so a 3x4 meter rectangle) at ceiling level works in my house. For the ovens, I am not sure they can go out. My ovens have a 2 meter open space above them, then a 26 degree roof that has a 1 meter wall coming down from the high side of the roof making a triangle. That tiny space is enough to contain the smoke and it doesn't try to flow out even though the walls are open on two sides above the ovens. However, the smoke gets so thick, it's hard to see through it. Valheim smoke doesn't flow and spread out like real life gasses do. Doing some testing while typing this tells me Valheim smoke goes straight up until it hits something and then tries to flow off to the sides. If it cannot flow sideways, it will build up and some of the build up will end up going off to the sides. If it can flow sideways, it will keep doing so back and forth, even if it is flowing back into more smoke... So a 2x4 meter smoke catcher is enough to contain the smoke.
Interesting. My throne was too far from the fireplace for rested bonus so I added a braiser but it was too smokey until I cut out a little hole in the wall and set it back. But per this information i jusy needed to extend the hight of my house and put a crawspace between 1st and 2nd floor witha little vent hood and it should resolve the issue?
This is awesome. I've done some of this in the past, but it is good to FINALLY know the actual numbers.
Thanks Kongveal!
Incredibly useful man, thanks, i hate building chimneys, they look all bulky in Valheim so this is very useful.
Me too! Thanks for watching!

Great video
Thank you very much!
Brilliant - i knew i could have a higher roof (crawl space as you call it) but the double floor is genius. thanks Kyle
Thanks Helga!

The smokey floors do give an interesting effect!
Do they choke you?
@@Clyne69 The smoke that leaks up through the floor does not choke you.
Nice video, very useful! Loving that heated outhouse, I am going to tell Crumbs that I need one 😆
Thank you Splash! No more cold cheeks! 🤣
@@KyleAxington Nice for those winter mornings 😆

Big rooms, especially with high ceilings don't really need venting at all. Thanks for watching!
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Astrid, I'm glad you like it!
Super useful information!! Thanks for sharing ❤
I'm glad you found it helpful!
@ fires and smoke are frequently an issue in building. Love that you have scienced this out for us!!
Thanks, it was a fun little project to do!
This is genius! Definitely gonna share. =)
Thank you Kristi, I appreciate it!
Thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤
You're welcome! ❤
Useful and to the point. I like this video. Thank you
Thank you!
Gotta give a like at the start for the simple breakdowns, welcome to Valheim Fire Saftey Class, Smoke Displacement 101😅
Thank you very much!

Perfect video to watch while pooping. Thanks brother.
Hope it helped!
Nice, but not to code. Insurance won't cover you if things go wrong.
Thanks, I did forget the "try at your own risk" disclaimer!
Nice video. What about the hot tub?
Thanks! That could be a future vid, I was focusing on cooking fires for this one.
Interesting idea ❤
Thank you!
Brilliant!
Thank you!
Did you do any of this in the longest long house? 😊. Hello Kyle! It's nice to know this since I am usually awful at building fireplaces.
Hi Laura! I did the swimming pool room, so no chimney required!
oh wow so clever.
Thank you Mare!
Double like double subscribe. This is fukin awesome shet I didn't know that. The usefulness of this is too epic
Thank you!
Super interesting!
-but I like my builds more with a chimney 😅
Thanks! I like chimneys on some builds too!

A crawl space between floors should solve that issue, and thank you for watching!
Its not working) sometimes flames will go out
I'm not sure why it wouldn't work, maybe there's a spot the smoke bottlenecks?
