  • Filming of the last few weekends of loco hauled services into and out of Newquay.
Footage includes 50 036, 47 459, a Class 142 and 50 026. I shot the film but sadly the reel ran out just before the arrival of the first InterCity 125 into Newquay and the departure of the last loco on Sunday 4th October 1987.
The next day the signal box, signalling and ticket office were put out of use (last Station Master Stan May) leaving only platform 2 operational with platform 3 as a siding.

It doesn’t seem like 👍 nearly 36 previous years ago this October. This happened on Sunday 4th October 1987 when I was aged 11 years old. Crikey, wasn’t I a child 👦 back then. The loco 😝 hauled trains 🚂 🚊 🚆 were replaced by the first generation DMU - Diesel ⛽️ Multiple Units train 🚊 were made dated back to the 1960s. Class 142 pacers were on the Atlantic Coast Line ran from Par to Newquay in the chocolate 🍫 and cream colour livery. The 2 car class 142 pacer trains 🚊 in the southwest of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 from 1986 to 1988 are 142015-027 and the other 12 x 2 car class 142 pacer trains 🚊 were in the southwest of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 are 142001/004/009/028-030/062-064/067/068/070 were used on 3 separate Devon branch lines are Exeter to Barnstaple (The Tarka Line), Exeter to Exmouth (The Avocet Line) and finally Exeter to Paignton (The Riviera Line). The short term lease from Monday 3rd December 2007 until Sunday 7th December 2008 is 142004, the 4 x 2 car class 142 pacer trains 🚊 went back to NT - Northern from FGW - First Great Western are 142028/062/067/070, the long term lease stayed on until Wednesday 19th October 2011 is 142029/064 and the rest of the 5 x 2 car class 142 pacers trains 🚆 went back to NT - Northern from FGW - First Great Western on Sunday 27th November 2011 are 142001/009/030/063/068. The current train 🚊 company is called GWR - Great Western Railway 🚃. Newquay still has its railway 🚃 station 🚉 in Cornwall has 2 platforms, however a single track because it’s a local line runs to Par. The holiday trains 🚊 runs for 5 months a year from May to September is in the spring and summer season from London Paddington is now using class 800s and 802s. Previously class 43s ran from London Paddington to Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and the Westcountry until Saturday 18th May 2019. XC - CrossCountry doesn’t run 🏃‍♂️ to Newquay anymore. 👍 👍

I was on that last hauled train, and I have the mug to prove it! I wish I could remember which 50 it was that hauled it - can anyone tell me, please?

50 034 was lead loco and 50 035 was coupled to coaches on departure from Paddington. If you recall it was miserable weather at Paddington, but by the time of the photo stop at Castle Cary it had broken into sunshine, and that was the best weather of the day, as it was pretty cloudy for the rest of the day. HST 25X X55 was the lead power car into Newquay on the "first" tram into the town. I guess it was 253 055, but I cannot make out from my photos. Likewise, I too have not one mug but two mugs from that trip, I bought one for my dad who was on board, and which turned out to be his last railtour, and one for myself, and I now use one on a reg basis, with the other in the "memories" cabinet, here in my home in Wellington, New Zealand. Thanks for posting.

@@roumsiki Cheers to you, sir. I only have the one mug, so not in use, although now polished!. Did you emigrate to NZ or were you just lucky when visiting the UK? Thanks for the loco info. I remember a brilliant circular railtour of Kent behind Furious and Ark Royal which featured an absolutely storming ascent of Sole Street Bank. Very best wishes to you.

@@mikeuk4130 Hello. I have just seen you message. I was living in the UK at the time, though emigrated first to Australia then to NZ, NZ in 2019, though a year on from my last message, now working in Saudi Arabia and part way moving back to UK. Took my first visit in over ten years to Cornwall back in June this year, and did have whilst passing through a quick look at Newquay station. This railtour and date very poignant for me, my last BR railtour with my dad, hence having purchased two mugs, which ironically are in the container in Tilbury at present on their way back from Wellington. I should see them all being well later this month on my next trip back to the UK.

@@roumsiki Hi, and thanks for your latest message. It's so sad about your Dad and I hope the mugs will again bring back some nice memories. I was holidaying in St Mawes in August and passed very close to Newquay on the down journey. Best wishes to you.
