  • On Sunday 24th May 1992. to celebrate the final day of scheduled class 50 haulage on the West of England main line, Network SouthEast organised a farewell day featuring the remaining 50s, 50007 'Sir Edward Elgar', 50033 'Glorious' and D400.
Unfortunately, 50033 failed the day before at Basingstoke and therefore did not run on the final day.
This video features much of the action on the day, including:
50007 and D400 arriving from Laira before departing with their first run of the day.
The sad sight of 50018 'Resolution' and 50037 'Illustrious' at Riverside Yard en route to M.C. Metals, Glasgow.
47551 and 47526 on an NSE service.
33002 'Sea King' and 33102 arriving (from Salisbury?) before departing with the return working.
50007 and D400's return and second departure of the day (cut short as the battery on my camcorder gave up!).
Never got to see their final departure from Exeter - had to rush back to Plymouth to go see KISS live that evening.... what a great day!!

I must have stood by you on many of your shots. Great but sad day. Brings back memories of those beautiful engines. Exeter was such an interesting station in the early 90’s. I have also uploaded my video for others to enjoy. Thanks

What I really miss is the space these trains had. Never herded into tight seats in three car trains
