    Hey Joe, a thing about the demon shark that is also gonna become somewhat of the norm with most of the future aquatic monsters in this series is that the culprits, like Mr. Wells as an example, are seemingly able to breathe underwater without any oxygen. I obviously get that the animators were probably just sloppy and didn't draw most of the culprits wearing scuba gear or at least using air-tanks, but it is pretty weird and surprisingly common, especially with the last episode of the series.
    Also, great episode, per usual.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому +1

      Good catch! While editing, it did occur to me that I didn't mention the whole "breathing underwater" aspect of the disguise, which to be fair, might have bumped the Outfit score up perhaps half a point, but I found myself stuck on just how unoriginal it was.

      @@JoeGoesOver No problem, Joe.
      Also, a thing I found recently after looking through all of the remaining episodes in the series where an aquatic monster appears, only in Scooby-Doo, Where's the Crew? is an air-tank shown being used by the culprit which explains why they were able to breathe underwater. It's literary ignored in all other episodes.

      I'm on that one right now and I was looking for the breathing tubes this time. It's just funny how the one tank they show is on the only disguise that didn't appear to allow for the breather to be on the mouth of the guy in the suit!

    How does this show compare to Where Are You, for you?

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому +3

      So far, it's been a bit of a mixed bag.
      The plots of 'The Scooby-Doo Show' seem much more elaborate and the locations are more interesting than 'Where Are You?', but at the same time much of the animation and writing feels a bit lazier. It felt like the earlier series tried to remain a bit more grounded and took the time to explain the villains'' actions, whereas this series seems to be in a hurry to resolve things and get on with the next mystery.
      I'm unsure as to their production order, but it really feels like the studio hit the ground running for the first few episodes, but then faltered a bit six or seven shows in.
      It's still SOOOOO much better than 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies'...!

    As always, great video!
    For what it's worth, I can definitely tell that you're letting as little bias sneak in as possible, and that's largely due to how well you explain your process. The recent string of less positive scores is clearly due to Hanna-Barbera running low on ideas and recycling plots/monster designs with less thought put into the actual scheme. But hey, even the lower scoring villains seem to have more thought put into them than most of the ones feature in The New Scooby-Doo Movies.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому +2

      That is the one saving grace of dealing with less-imaginative villains- at least the episode themselves are still entertaining.
      I often found myself so bored watching 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies' as so much of their scenes felt like filler. 'The Scooby-Doo Show' is a lot tighter and more interesting to view!

    To be fair to Shaggy, there isn't much of a difference between a spellbook and a cookbook. You can find most spell components in your kitchen. Eye of newt is mustard seed, blind-worm's sting is either poppy seed or wormwood, an herb, owlet's wing is garlic or ginger, and scale of dragon is likely tarragon.
    If it was written in plane English, the only thing that would give them pause would be the numerous poisonous plants some recipes would call for.

    • @JoeGoesOver

      There was a part of me that died the first time I learned that eye of newt wasn't literally the optical organs of a baby salamander.

    I know I argued otherwise in the comments of the last video but after giving it some more thought I would argue that the flying bull should have been counted as an outfit. It concealed the pilot's identity and unlike the No-Face Zombie, it clearly had a human element despite being mechanical as it needed someone to control it at all times whereas the zombie acted on its own.
    Next time we get to my favorite villain of the show. As I said before I'm expecting him to rank low but I'm interested to see him covered regardless.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому

      The problem is where to draw the line. If I were to consider the vehicles driven by the bad guys as part of their "disguise", where would it end? Technically, that would make the robot dinosaurs controlled by the villains 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies' as part of their costumes, or the bat-shaped vehicle driven by Jesse James in that series as well.
      This is why I do my best to draw such a distinction between "costume" and "prop".

    I discovered your channel last year Joe and as a life long Scooby Doo fan, I was instantly enthralled. I love your analysis of the villians schemes, you put so much effort into them and go into such great detail. So glad you're now covering 'The Scooby Doo Show' which is my favourite incarnation of the series and I can't wait until you cover 'The Creepy Heap From The Deep' and 'The Creepy Creature Of Vultures Claw' as those are two of my favourite episodes.
    There's just one thing that always perplexed me about the Demon Shark episode and that's the subplot regarding the mysterious book of Hindu spells that is constantly mentioned throughout the episode. Dreyfus first mentions it to the gang when he claims that Professor Beaker had the book but later on Beaker claims that Mr Wells showed him the book once but he hadn't seen it in months and then later on Wells says that he remembers Beaker reading the book but he also hadn't seen it since.
    I wonder if this was a leftover from an earlier version of this episode that was accidentally left in the finished product, much like the part from the Underground Demons episode with Captain Sally being in cohoots with Sam Crenshaw, or was this just an undressed plot point that the gang overlooked and never addressed in the episode. Really strange.
    Anyway I enjoyed this video and I'm looking forward to the rest. Keep up the good work Joe.

      Thank you very much for your kind words and I say with no hesitation that comments like yours helps keep me motivated! I hope my future content doesn't disappoint!
      You hit the nail on the head there when it comes to not knowing if the lack of a resolution of the book of spells is due to poor writing or failure to update the script after rewrites (though, I suppose, both of those would count as "poor writing").
      If I had to guess, I think the writers just forgot about addressing the whole spell book thing at the end of the episode, just like how they forgot to include Dreyfus when the Gang explained the mystery.
      Then again, perhaps Dreyfus' absence is another aspect of an earlier draft of the script where he and Wells may have been in cahoots. It would certainly explain why Dreyfus was so eager to accuse Beaker of being the one responsible for resurrecting the Shark Demon!

      One of the difficulties I face occasionally when discussing the villains' schemes is trying to figure out what kind of vehicle they used in an episode. I think I'll have it narrowed down to a particular make or model, only to realize it's missing something important (or has added features not found on the real life version).
      I think the production staff used photos of automobiles, submarines and airplanes as references, but took plenty of artistic license and ended up creating vehicles that don't actually have real world counterparts.
      The video I did about the Grand Prix was a nightmare when it came to trying to determine what kind of racecars were stolen.

    Telling a bunch of teenagers they're crazy for claiming to have seen a flying bull is NOT gasslighting! that's just basic disbelief. Gaslighting is when someone knows a person is telling the truth, but claimed disbleife in order to convince the person that they didn't see what they saw.
    It always pisses me off whenever someone refers to an expression of disbelief as Gaslighting, because it implies narfarious intent of the disbeliever.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому

      I don't think gaslighting always has to imply anything nefarious on the part of the one doing it. Sometimes they might do it with the best of intentions.
      But when they constantly tell Shaggy or Scooby they're just seeing things, or it's just their imagination, when there are countless examples of Shaggy and Scooby being right over and over and over again about supernatural shenanigans being afoot, it's INFURIATING to me.
      That's why I consider what they do "gaslighting" and not simply being unwilling to believe.

    • @QSpark
      @QSpark 5 місяців тому +1

      @@JoeGoesOver My point is that the INTENT is the difference between Gaslighting and disbelief or skepticism. the intent of gaslighting IS to mislead or manipulate (which agreeably may not be nefarious, but is often conotated as so). for example, your kid comes to you in the middle of the night and claims to have seen a ghost in his/her room and you tell them it's just their imagination. That's NOT gaslighting, unless you know that you've moved into a haunted house and your kid is describing the exact same entity that the previous owners of that house had claimed to have seen, and you don't want to scare your kid so you tell them it's just their imagination. that would be a non-nafarious form a gaslighting, but still gaslighting.
      In this episode, you claimed that Daphne's uncle was gaslighting the gang when he told them that they must have halucinated a flying bull. That's NOT gaslighting because Daphne's uncle has no reason to believe such an unbelievable claim nor is he trying to mislead or manipulate them in any way.
      This is a common mis-use of the term gaslighting and it just grinds my gears whenever I see or hear it.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому

      Fair enough, and you make a valid point.
      For my purposes, though, just the fact that as much as the Gang constantly discounts Shaggy or Scooby's insistence they saw a ghost in almost literally every episode when they run to Fred and the rest claiming to have seen one, despite almost literally every episode having proved them correct at having seen a ghost, just the fact that a relative would immediately have the same reaction to hearing a ghost sighting made me question if such a thing ran in the families.

      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому +1

      Thank you for your insight! I would never personally assume a skin color for any particular region, though I would argue plenty of areas have a propensity for a certain hue.
      I'm think I failed in my reasoning for pointing their color out here. I was hoping to imply that this was not the ideal color to have been used on the original animation cels for the Indian guards not because there aren't any lighter-skinned people on the subcontinent, but rather Hanna-Barbera was once again cutting costs in production and had their colorist use the same paint for all the characters rather than break open a different tube of acrylic. I really should have made my comment more explicit in calling out their cheapness.
      It sucks that colorism exists over there because in my opinion, that darker skin I see of the few Indian people that crop up over here in the U.S. in pop culture is extremely attractive.

    With Mr Wells, the shark demon would have been in the cargo hold of the plane, freezing to death would have been another risk. I watched these 2 episodes recently in anticipation of your analysis (not sure if that is weird or not...lol) and I found myself mixing up the Demon Shark with the Where Are You episode with the Caveman quite a bit. There's a soft space in my heart for the Bum Steer for Scooby-Doo episode even thought I'm not rightly sure why. Regardless if there were one or two people in the cow costume, they should have been considerably smaller than the regular herd. I guess the reason why I like these shows aren't for historical accuracy, cultural sensitivity or real science. Cheers for another great episode Joe - I look forward to the next as always.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому

      As little comfort as this undoubtedly is, at least having a really awful day puts any future bad days in perspective.
      In my case, way back in 2010 I was caught right in the middle of a friend's suicide and it was, bar none, the worst day of my life. So now, any bad day pales in comparison.
      I usually get a content match with every one of my uploads, requiring me to fiddle with the editing and re-upload until it goes through. I've seen how some channels try to avoid it by tossing filters over the video or even mirroring the footage. I've tried both and still get nailed. What seems to be the deciding factor is keeping any video I sample to ten seconds or less. Then I just have to be careful not to have too many ten-second snippets too close to each other on my timeline or UA-cam considers it one very long excerpt from an episode and content matches me.
      It's SO frustrating because most of us creators are clearly treating the material under obvious Fair Use conditions, but it's too much hassle for UA-cam to hire actual people to check the stuff.
      Here's hoping there's a long time between now and your next bad day!

    • @amitysluzara2022
      @amitysluzara2022 5 місяців тому +1

      @JoeGoesOver oh yeah definitely because I don't think any other horrible day could possibly top Tuesdays... but also I don't want to tempt fate. As for me, I lost my dad to cancer on Tuesday (that's also why I was having a bad day last video,) but, as if that wasn't bad enough 3 hours later (if that) we got a call about my grandad and we nearly lost him too... thankfully my grandad pulled through, he has really bad dementia (as a result he never got to say goodbye to my dad, who was his son, in fact he was completely clueless that my dad even had cancer which is heartbreaking but at least he isn't going through that pain too.)
      Oh... oh god I'm lost for words I am so so SO sorry I cannot imagine how horrible and traumatising that must've been for you... I honestly have no words I'm sorry...
      Thankfully I've never had any content matches, although I had 2 videos blocked the second I uploaded them once, which was annoying but they were just reactions that took 10 minutes to make so nothing too bad. But, seeing everyone else's issues with content matches just ruined it for me :/ its a shame as I have so many video ideas but, I doubt I'll ever do them nowadays. Honestly, UA-cam REALLY needs to hire actual people to deal with this stuff but I doubt they Ever will sadly... hopefully they prove us wrong though
      Thank you so much 🥺 I really hope there's an extremely long time between now and your next awful day too

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому

      I am so sorry to hear that.
      I'm a cancer survivor myself, but was lucky that it was one of the "easier" ones (thyroid) and they caught it early enough. I think I'm still technically in the "wait and see" stage but all my numbers have been good so I'm guessing I'm past it. Even if it comes back, it's such a slow-progressing one that I'd probably die of something else before it'd get me.
      Unfortunately, my experience with the disease coupled with a general extremely morbid sense of humor as well as probable PTSD from kidney stone issues left me in a position where I'm extremely flippant about it, which has had led me to put my foot in my mouth on more than one occasion when making a joke about it to the wrong person.
      Situations like your father's is a reminder that not everyone was as lucky as I was (insofar as getting cancer could ever be described as "getting lucky"). I'm so sorry his ending wasn't the same as mine. Of course, having troubles piled one on top of the other is extremely unfair, and it's ridiculous you'd have to go through so much at the same time.
      As for the UA-cam content match, it is extremely frustrating as you say, but made worse considering the videos I've been posting lately have been around an hour long each, which translates to three or more hours of encoding time, not to mention the hour long upload and wait for the content match to go through it.
      Honestly, it's SO much better to get the instant match because it allows you to make the changes before going live. A few uploads ago, my video went through with no issues but then when I awoke the next day after having it live all night for my Patreon supporters, I got hit with a content match. If that had happened after making it public, I'd have lost a ton of monetization opportunity because the majority of the income on any given video is usually during the first day or two. The longer it stays public but unmonetized, the more you lose. It breaks my heart whenever any of the content creators I watch complain about a flag AFTER the video is public.
      It's now come to the point I'm MORE worried when I DON'T get a content match, because then I have to worry about getting hit with one after it's live.
      It's a shame you've become so discouraged due to UA-cam's flawed process. After having started this channel and spending all the time I do on each video, I've come to appreciate how important it is for everyone to try and create something. On social media, I will always give a "Like" or "Thumbs Up" to content, even if I didn't enjoy it that much, because it's that important to encourage people to exercise their creativity. I would highly recommend trying again, even if what you produce is few and far between.
      Sometimes the trick is to think of the content match as a puzzle you need to solve. When I get hit, it forces me to look at what I made and try and find a way of getting the same point across but with a different way of editing the footage. Sometimes it's something as simple as using a still frame instead of the motion video, or cutting the audio into chunks and rearranging them to have the same meaning but still avoiding the matching service.
      Again, thank you very much for watching my videos and I'm very sorry for your recent loss. If you haven't experienced anything like this before, all I can say is it does get better. Time itself is what's needed, so grieve in whatever manner you need to in order to feel better and just remember it probably WILL get better once enough time has elapsed.

    It's a shame that you just put the Demon Shark on the lowest point, since it has been one of my favourite monsters of that show.
    (Both that and the ones in the "Sonny & Cher" episode is among my favourites, since it made me fear sharks from such a young age, and especially the simply image of them being able to suddenly walk on land! 😲)
    Also, just quickly re-watched the episode, and one scene came to mind, that I'm surprise you didn't bring up.
    Right before the trap part the Demon-Shark confronts the gang after discovering the oysters, and actually stops being hostile for a second to none-verbaly ask the gang to gather them into a sack and give them to him.
    What are your thoughts on that scene?

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому

      It's always jarring when the villain breaks character by directly engaging with the Gang.
      It was very similar to how the Mummy of Anka did the same thing when trying to get the coin back from Shaggy.
      In hindsight, this was me dropping the ball a bit because this would have been even more evidence that the Demon Shark was just a man in a suit because there's no way an actual prehistoric monster would know enough human body language to make its intentions understood like that.

    Okay speaking as a rancher's son, that amount isn't too far off, but there are a few smaller details pertaining to the relationships and motivations. One other factor could be insurance and possible fraud. The one stealing the cattle could have had a policy for just in case they were stolen. And to make it look less suspicious, he stole his neighbor's as well.
    Also size doesn't matter that much when it comes to a cordiality between ranchers. Plenty who attend things like the National Western Stock Show or the American Royal wouldn't have that large of an operation. And some would be outright huge in comparison. We're all still roughly business partners in all of this.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому +1

      Thank you very much for your insight! It's very helpful hearing from someone with actual real world knowledge of the situation in question. I had a hell of a time trying to settle on how big Blake and Farren's ranches might have been, so in the end I had to rely on human nature to estimate their sizes. You're not wrong that in plenty of industries, the size of a business wouldn't necessarily preclude larger or smaller operations from associating with each other, but I needed some way to at least explain how to arrive at a figure that would show the two ranches were at least comperable.
      That's also a very good point about the possible insurance angle and I wish I'd have included something like that in my analysis. Unfortunately, there will always be some other way of looking at a particular scheme that will evade me.

      @@JoeGoesOver something else with the buy, selling, and maybe breeding angle to the rustling: a really good bull from a strong line is worth a lot of money. As are any calves they might produce. You steal a good bull, collect some semen or have it breed a few cows, then you've got a good bull or even cows for later.
      But this was set in the 60s when most people who would have been watching wouldn't know a good bull or anything like that. It's why they use longhorns as those are the stereotypical cattle to rustle in westerns.

    More ominous is that in the follow-up episode, as the frozen shark-man was an actual artifact and not a fake made up as part of Wells’s plan. Seems like SCOOBY DOO took place in a world with a drop of H.P. Lovecraft’s stories even before MYSTERY, INC.

    Hi, Joe!! I meant to ask, but shouldn’t the purpose of the costumes have more of a pull on the ranking than just them being scary or non generic?
    For the Witch Doctor and Sam Farron, I think the cow costume should be an exception and be praised more than have points docked? Within the sense of the plan, Farron seemed to choose the costume with the intent to blend into the herd. He left Lenny to be the scary one. It seems clear to me that he intend Tamooka and Lenny to be the main participants responsible for scaring off snoopers and with that many cooks in the kitchen already, it makes sense that he’d try to stay in the herd while helping command them.
    Maybe just my opinion and you can be honest about it not making sense if that’s the case, but I feel like how low the outfit score was should be solely on Lenny and how generic the cow costume was should be a plus in this sitch only because of the intent. What do you think?

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому +1

      I try to base my rankings on the villains as "Scooby-Doo villains", and for me that means they have to be original and scary first and foremost, followed by how appropriate they are for the setting and preferably with special effects to sell the verisimilitude of the costume.
      Farren's outfit may have been good for blending in, but it failed as a Scooby-Doo villain disguise using my ranking qualifications, because it failed at almost all aspects I deem important (with the exception of how appropriate it was, considering the ranch location).
      As these are reviews and based on my own subjectivity and I can't promise every ranking to completely meet every aspect I've deemed important, but by the same token this allows me some leeway if I think a costume has something else going for it that might add (or subtract) points.
      You're not wrong that the cow costume wasn't meant to be scary, but that just makes it even less of a Scooby-Doo disguise in my opinion.

    What I wanna know is why didn't the water park have any security guards that kept an eye on the place after hours? Who upon seeing the meddling kids pop up on their surveillance cameras/finding them woulda at least escorted them off the premises. Also, why didn't the director of the place have several questions about what the Scooby gang was doing there and how did they even get in? Despite being gullible, he sure seems like an awfully trusting fellow to let them just search the place after. Not sure if that is a good thing, considering the place had live sea animals that could be dangerous to untrained people being around them. Or the gang could be a danger to them. As an utter stranger to them, falling into a pool full of dolphins is probably only markedly better than if they were sharks, cause dolphins are plenty dangerous if they feel like it/get startled/stressed out/are provoked. There are cases where even trained dolphins attack their handlers and well...the results are not pretty. Even beyond that, introducing several dolphins to a dog sounds incredibly dangerous.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  5 місяців тому

      You're not wrong about the dolphins. Watching that scene, I couldn't help but think the Gang were LUCKY all the dolphins did was kick them out of the pool.
      As for the security guards, you're touching on one of the most common problems with Hanna-Barbera animation: lack of a world outside the main and supporting characters. For obvious reasons (i.e., money) almost every city is a ghost town and despite an aquarium of that size undoubtedly needing night security (not to mention after-hours janitors and maintenance crew), it'd just be too expensive to animate them.

It would be odd if you didn't come across at least one lighter-skinned person, considering the sheer size and diversity of the place. I would also note that Indian society contains a strain of colourism-- skin-whitening make-up is very popular, and said colourism actually pre-dates British rule of the place-- the previous rulers of India were the Mughal empire, light-skinned Iranians who conquered India in the 1500s.

      I was trying to express yet another complaint at Hanna-Barbera's cost-cutting and poor quality control by subtly alluding to how those two Indian men were colored as everyone else in the show, as opposed to having the colorist use a different acrylic on the cel.
      To me it was very glaring as, to the best of my knowledge, every other Indian or Hindu featured in a Hanna-Barbera series was always colored brown (e.g., Hadji from 'Jonny Quest').

      Thank you for the kind words!
      When I was nearing the end of 'The New Scooby-Doo Movies', I remember thinking how nice it'd be to do smaller videos since the episodes would be half the length.
      Apparently, I underestimated either how much I had to say about 'The Scooby-Doo Show', or my ability to be concise during the scripting phase!
      If I could manage to do smaller videos, they'd be uploaded with more frequency!

    I am very late this time, but here i am.
    Unfortunatly we got our first villain to get below two. They where going great at first, but unfortunatly they are falling down. It seems that the writers are getting a bit lazy and unoriginal at this point.
    I tought you would have considered the Tamuka helicopter a disguise, since you did that with the vulture helicoper. Did you changed your mind on how to treat this things, or it was because that time you had no other option, but if you have traditional costumes you are gonna prioritize those? It's a bit unfortunate because i think it would have raised the outfit score.
    It's very interesting to that this episode introduced the Blake surname, altough it would be ufficialized as Daphne's surname only in the New Scrappy Doo show.
    Aside for that i have not much to say that you didn't already mentioned. It was a bit of a forgettable episode to me.
    I liked the shark demon episode a lot more. Yes it has a re used monster, but at least they re used on of the best one, and i liked how the mystery is handled, altough it's still not perfect.
    Yes you are right, leaving the real demon shark was a mistake. I don't understand why they couldn't have the villain stealing the block of ice and trawing some water in it's place to make it happear it's melting out. Maybe they wanted to give the idea that he was constantly resurrected and then put back to sleep again with the book of spell, but it wasn't handled well. I think what we should focus on tough is that there is a real demon shark at all! This creature really existed at one point in the scooby doo universe. It might be more of an evolution offshot then an actual demon, but this doesn't make it less terrifing.
    The book of spell itself was a weird addition, i don't get why it needed to be in the plot. Yes, the shark "realistically" wouldn't remain alive even if frozen in ice, but they didn't took that as an issue with the caveman. I also noticed the fact that he wasn't going after his supposed target, i get that they wanted him as a suspect so they couldn't have the shark appear togheter with him but it still doesn't make sense. I also feel that this whole shark plot just increased the risk of getting caught by drawing attention to the acquariym, he probably should have tought of a different plan to smuggle the pearls out. Was he even sure that the position of manager was gonna go to him if the other guy run away? Genuine question, i don't know how that stuff work.
    "Fred should have pulled out his trap right away". Actually why doesn't he always do that? They should know by this point that it's always a guy in a mask, and expecially in later series they start become more aware of that (altough in What's New they tried a few time and the plot always makes sure they couldn't catch the villain unless they know who he is). Altough this time it kinda helped that they waited, because knowing what he was looking for helped with chosing where to set the trap.
    I hope the next villains would be able to get better scores. The next episode feature an hidden treasure plot and that's not original at all but that doesn't mean it can't get other points, a treasure can be pretty valuable and i think in the middle of the ocean the risk of getting caught would have been pretty low if there wheren't meddling kids on board. Pirates and sea monsters aren't very original but at least they aren't reused models and the costumes had scooba gears equipment and i think they glow (not 100% sure tought) so they can get points for that. For operation for what i remember they spent most or their time shutting doors, but i don't really remember enough to judge. But maybe they can get at least an average score, but i still think in the lower end.
    The rambling ghost i feel can get hight score for costume. It' the first football ghost (altough not the first one related to sport so it depens on how specific you wanna get), i am pretty sure he glowed in some parts and i found him pretty scary. The plan would be hard to judge tough, since it's a revenge scheme and those don't have a clear material gain to calculate, so i am curious how you are gonna do it, you had other revenge schemes before and the clown one got hight scores so who knows (the other... We all know who he was). For operation he had kidnapping, but they where kinda important to the scheme and done in pretty creatives ways, i don't know if this is gonna count for anything. I think he could get a better score but i am not 100% confident. I would wait and see

      I'm almost halfway finished with the next script, but so far (SPOILER ALERT!), First Mate Carp and his henchmen may be doing better than you might expect!
      The scores have definitely been dropping after such a good initial showing, and I can't help but wonder if that was just Hanna-Barbera quickly getting burned out with this series far, far too early into it.
      As for the prop vs. disguise thing, my ranking scale is going through a bit of an evolution as I progress, and a decision I made one or two series earlier may not carry forward much later as my viewpoint of the importance (or lack thereof) might change. I am doing my best trying to be consistent as I can, but I can't promise 100% sameness throughout. Having said that, in the case of the vulture helicopter [HEELICOPTER], I feel more comfortable declaring that as a disguise and not a prop considering the villains weren't wearing any costume and rode around in the vehicle treating it as the primary monster; whereas in Tamuka's case, while it was also technically a primary monster, the villains themselves wore separate disguises. Admittedly, this his a sketchy argument, but it's the best defense I can immediately offer.
      You're right in questioning if Wells would have automatically been promoted to Dreyfus' job if the man had been successfully scared off, but even if he didn't get the job, it's likely the aquarium would need some time to find a permanent replacement and in the meantime would ask Wells to take over until they could find one. During that time, Wells would be able to sign the transfer papers for the oysters.

      That's being too charitable to the studio.
      Children may like repetition, but Hanna-Barbera liked not having to pay artists for new character models more, I think.

    If I remember correctly those jewels were from mother Russia not India, in fact they were on the same plane by coincidence and to put the plot together.

      Nothing in the episode says anything about Russia. Every line of dialogue that references them says they're from India. There's even a pamphlet that says "The Maharaja of Ringtur's Rare Pearls".
      If there's any reference to Russia, it's not in my version of the episode.
