      I mean, technically, we ALL have a price point for literally everything.
      That price isn't always in terms of money, either.
      The sad thing is how low that price is for so very, very many of us...

    I do find the kelp monster scary, moreso than the octopus, but I guess that's just one of those things that depend on what personally scares someone; in my case, the kelp monster brings to mind a reanimate, bloated corpse that's been underwater so long, aquatic plants have begun growing over the body

      That sounds like the premise for an adult version of Scooby-Doo.
      I wonder if we'll ever get an adults only version of Scooby-Doo?
      I mean a REAL version of Scooby-Doo, not whatever "THAT" show was attempting.

      @@JoeGoesOver I would love a legitimate adult version of Scooby Doo! Unfortunately adult animation doesn't have a good track record, but a Scooby Doo that was basically the same as the ones for kids, but able to go darker with its themes and horror, would be great! I think the closest we have thus far is Zombie Island, and that one's considered one of the best pieces of Scooby media

      @@JoeGoesOverThere is a channel called Mystery Incorporated that is trying to make a more adult version of scooby doo. If you look up Mystery Incorporated live action you’ll find the pilot episode. It’s ran by people who love scooby doo and are running a campaign to try and raise backers for it. I wish it could get off the ground because it has its own issues but it’s at least ran by people who are TRYING to make an almost riverdale/supernatural type version of it. It’s MILES better than Velma but honestly it’s not hard for it to be better than whatever THAT is.

    The Quarterback episode is my favorite episode of this series so I'm glad my favorite monster got an above average score. His scheme might not have been profitable but a lot of people can attest to how satisfying revenge is, especially since unlike Harry the Hypnotist we don't actually know what he was fired for so it's entirely possible Mr. Prentice massively screwed him over like corrupt businessmen are known to do.
    One thing worth noting is that there is something of a reason for the Ellsworth disguise. He entered the scoreboard room and switched from his ghost costume to his Ellsworth costume, by doing this he can leave the stadium after each haunting without risking any snoopers like the gang trying to follow the ghost and solve the mystery. He could've left as himself but if anybody recognized him he'd quickly become a suspect since someone who didn't leave on good terms suddenly showing up again only after a ghost started jeopardizing the business would be incredibly suspicious.
    The fact that he was wearing the Ellsworth costume under the Rambling Ghost costume also makes sense if that was the plan because that makes the process of switching costumes quicker than if he needed to put those clothes on after taking the ghost outfit off.

    • @mikeike9742
      @mikeike9742 6 місяців тому +4

      Or if he intended to go to the underground stadium after each haunting he could wait around for the police to leave and the commotion to die down in the Ellsworth disguise before going there.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  6 місяців тому +5

      Excellent theory! I can't find any holes in it and it absolutely explains the secondary disguise. It's my mistake for going for a real world explanation (writers filling out a suspect pool) rather than the in-Dooniverse reason like yours.
      I should be careful of that going forward!
      I would also lean more toward Prentice having fired Bender for less-than-savory reasons for exactly why you said: never trust a billionaire!
      Thanks for watching and commentin!

      Yeah, Roger is actually dead and only exists as a ‘cartoon ghost’ with a limited ‘lifespan’ in which to solve his own murder. Also the cartoon characters are actually comic strip characters that speak in speech balloons. I’m glad they made the changes they did and were able to incorporate so many classic film cartoons.

      @@russellharrell2747 The reason Gary K. Wolf created “Who Censored Roger Rabbit” at the time, was because he thought Theatrical Animation was dead, and the comic book business, as well as adapting them to TV becomes the norm. Also, originally, Roger Rabbit was meant to have brown fur. It wouldn’t be until the movie came out, that not only did it spark an animation renaissance, but Gary K. loved it so much, to the point of retconning his own original story in a book sequel to the movie (“Who P-P-P-Plugged Roger Rabbit?”), where it states the original storyline is nothing more than a nightmare that Jessica Rabbit had; which also goes to show that not all sexually attractive female characters are gold diggers.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  6 місяців тому +4

      My favorite bit of tangential Roger Rabbit trivia is how a comic book I was reading at the time, 'Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew!', featured a character named "Roger Rabbit", but the name was eventually changed to "Roger Rodney Rabbit" before finally settling on "Rodney Rabbit".
      The comic writers didn't know about Wolf's book, published just a year prior, when they gave named their hero's alter ego, so they had to change it in the only manner open to them at the time.
      This was why I'd heard about Roger Rabbit long before the film.

      @@JoeGoesOver Also, on top of Judge Doom originally being a toon, with the only visible clues that he has red eyes and a high squeaky voice, there are other clues indicating his true identity (not counting the Disney Book Sequel where he has a much different identity from his movie appearance).
      Judge Doom was originally a toon known as “Pistol Packin’ Possom”, and from what I know of this possibility is this: Doom’s Toon Patrol is comprised of Mobster weasels, and the Possom character is dressed like one. The poster for the character in question is in RK Maroon’s office, which shows the character having red eyes like Doom. Doom even used a gun that looked exactly like the one on the poster, which was reflected through the glass casing of the poster before RK Maroon was peppered with bullets. In the end, the Toons ruled out what type of toon he would’ve been: Rabbit, Duck, Dog, Marionette, Sheep, Woodpecker and Pussy(cat); one of the possible forms that wasn’t ruled out (but not mentioned) was a Possom.

This is what led to Scrappy's 'Most Annoying' status, as he now had to find most of the clues, get himself damseled, and pretty much fill all the roles they had to.

    That joke you make about the gang being experienced scuba divers despite Shaggy saying he can’t swim only works because of inconsistency or more likely lying. My man, this is Shaggy we’re talking about. He lies all the time when he’s scared to death of something and wants to run away from being bait. Obviously he’s gonna lie about not swimming just like the chicken he is. Although, with Ultra Instinct power in his veins, maybe he’s afraid his power will be triggered by swimming and break reality?

      In the words popularized by Mark Twain: “There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics”, Shaggy may have been lying, but it takes an effort to make one that obvious in front of your friend with whom you've spent time scuba diving in the past.
      That's why I'm such a proponent for every Scooby series taking place in its own universe.

    Point After Touchdown (PAT) and Two-Point Conversions are untimed plays which teams are required to go for if there is any time left in the game. If a touchdown is scored with :00 on the clock resulting in one team ahead of another, no PAT or 2-PT conversion is necessary nor required (anymore, don't ask it was a dumb NFL rule that's been abandoned); if a touchdown is scored with :00 on the clock and a PAT or 2-PT conversion can tie or win the game then the team will go for it to force overtime or win the game.
    Those 0-0 scores give me flashbacks to the overhyped "Game of the Century" 2011 LSU-Alabama debacle that was the "Bore of the Century" with 5 combined field goals in regulation and overtime. That was 4 hours of my life that I wish I had done something else with...like watch old Scooby-Doo content.

    With how familiar many of these villain plots are sounding, part of me wonders if it's only a matter of time before they all sound familiar. Either because the writers run out of ideas or because there's only so much truly fresh schemes that can be made before things have to be recycled. Time will tell.

      It's too early to say, but judging from how unique so many storylines exist from later in the franchise's life, I would guess the repeated story beats and villain schemes are more indicative of Hanna-Barbera pushing writers to hurry up with scripts than a lack of talent.
      The studio didn't want to pay to hire more writers, artists and animators, so it's no surprise they'd take shortcuts like recycled plots and character models.

I like my concept art for the rambling ghost has threads in his lips over his mouth like a football(kinda making him look like Purple Haze from Jojo GW), heck a cool power I gave for the rambling ghost is muddy/foggy haze with freezing rain weather that makes games unbearable. I know coach made us stand/practice in it "oh good times go bye".

    0-0 means that the teams could be both really good or bad. Both teams could have inept offenses or both could have outstanding defenses. Also no, it makes no sense to have your star player out of the game until the end unless Fred meant that he was coming back into the game after his team got the ball back. Also the point after attempt freezes the clock so there is no incentive not to kick it but I think your mob theory could still be valid

There is a Football Player Zombie enemy in the video game franchise Plants vs. Zombies, but that is a zombie and not a ghost even if they're both undead creatures.

    Finally some nice villain scores, it's been a while
    I admit tough, i found the sea captain episode pretty forgettable. I don't think it's really the villains fault tough, is just that the plot is pretty standard and most of the episode is just based on locking doors. The designs of the villains are nice tough. I notice then while in the New Scooby Doo movies you based yourself more on the in universe characters reaction to determine if a villain was scary, while now you are basing it on the costume design itself. It makes sense to me because that series werdly showed the characters aside for Shaggy and Scooby nit scared of the monsters a bunch of time, while this never does that so if you based the score on the gang's reaction every villain would be considered scary. I agree with that approch, if anything i think some old villains got a bit too much credit like the ghost of Fireball McPhane that without the special effect just looked like a normal dude, altough on the other hand it could get a bit too subjective at time, like the kelp monster could very well be considered scary by many and i saw people thinking that. In other instances it makes sense like i doubt anyone thinks Merlin was scary, it lacked any scary feature and just looked like a standard wizard. I did expect that exact score on the design, and something on that line for ourfit and operation. I didn't realized it would have got that hight tough. I dis noticed the glowing effect bring inconsistent tough.
    The clue was really just for the audience and wasn't really needed for the characters, but again, figuring out who the villain is beforhand is seldom really important, they are gonna find out after the trap anyways.
    I laugh at the way you pronounce Poisson. At first i tought he could have bern Pescado since thir names mean the same thing, pretty silly reason i know, but it would have been a better twist, the actual culptits where blatantly obvious, another reason why i wound the episode forgettable.
    On Fred being obsessed with splitting up, A Pup Named Scooby Doo seems to go with that interpretation. One time he said that right after claming that they would have a better chance if they stay togheter, another one after solving the mistery and another in a small trailer with no space to split up.
    I also expected the Rambling Ghost to got a five in outfit. It's really a good design, pretty underdated imo. I didn't expected the operation score to get so low, but i did noticed some mistakes specially with that newspaper, forst time i saw the villain writing on a piece of paper i tought it was some kind of document he needed for his scheme but no, he was apparently just circling a photo for no reason.
    I think human disguise was to get more easy acces on the "special effects" like the mechanical eagle. I am surprised you didn't mentioned that part i fount it pretty clever.
    Yeah the shrinkin it's a bit too much, i am ok with stuff that is just a visual gag, but making them actually shrink is too much and break the grounded feeling of this series, altough i liked one instance in the original series when Scooby launched a block of ice against a keyhole and the ice got shaped like a key. It was so absurd that made me laugh. But that should be limited or it's gonna become like any other gag based cartoon, like it's going to happen in the Scrappy era when it's just him Scooby and Shaggy, there is one episode in wich the steam turn them into babies. I am ok with that in Pup because it fits with the aestetic of the series (and it's usually just visual gags anywyas even if exagerated) but i know you hate that one.
    Revenge scheme may be less beneficial then money schemes, but i found them a nice change of pace sometimes. They are gonna become more common in some of my favourite series like What's New and Mystery inc wich makes me fear a bit for the scores (Mystery Inc in particual have some intentionally stupid ones). The mafia theory is interesting and makes a lot of sense. When you say the second time, wich you are counting as the first? Iirc you teorized mob involvment at least two times, Backstage Rage and the third Globetrotters episode, and i don't think they where ever involved officially for now (i think the foist time it really happen is during the scrappy era. There is one series in woch Shaggy Svooby and Scrappy worked on a detective sgency and in one episode they had to recover stolen diamonds from a mobster)
    For the next one, unfortunatly we have some reused models again, altough basing the color schemes of the ghosts on ice cream flavours was a nice tough so maybe they are gonna get at least an extra point, even if that might make them less scary as well, and they lack special effects i think. For the revolutionary ghosts their schemes should get an easy one i think. It might be original, but i think the fact that they where stealing wortless currency nullify that, expecially since they should havre realized that if they made a bit more reaserch on how the mint works.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  6 місяців тому

      Admittedly, I do seem to be exhibiting a lack of consistency when it comes to rating a costume's ability to inspire fear or its originality specifically from an audience's perspective or from the protagonists' perspective. It's just going to be one of those things that I'll decide at the moment of writing the script, based on whatever mindset I had at the time. Most scripts are written over several days, and occasionally I'll change my mind about some elements while proofing, so what you see that ends up on camera is my most firm thoughts on the subject.
      With my suggestion about the possibility of a second time the mob may have been involved, I was thinking how the Ghost of Fireball McPhan wanted to turn a high school stadium into a race track for gambling, which would likely involve organized crime, though I'm sure I mentioned possible mob ties in earlier videos (but can't immediately remember off the top of my head).
      The script is mostly complete for my next video featuring the final two episodes of season one, so hopefully by the middle or end of next week you'll see how I handled the points you brought up!

    I can't actually find a source for it but over the years I've seen more than a few places claim that Shaggy and Velma were originally going to be siblings in the pre-production stage of Where Are You?, which admittedly goes a long way in explaining stuff like Velma having Shaggy's cold medicine in the pilot and Shaggy having Velma's spare glasses in the Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolfman episode.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  6 місяців тому +2

      That's both fascinating and believable from a pre-production standpoint, and also icky and gross from a "how the characters were in a relationship in 'Mystery Incorporated' years later" standpoint.
      If that's not a holdover from a potential sibling relationship, it may have been the writers just trying to find a way of explaining how Shaggy got some cold medicine or Velma got her spare glasses if another character had been holding them, rather than simply magicking them into existence.
      This is a concern they obviously quickly dropped, considering how often Shaggy and Scooby pull full disguises out of thin air when trying to trick a villain.

    Even as a kid I thought it was strange that a good amount of the Pescado episode was spent having the ghosts lock the gang up only for them to escape pretty much immediately before being locked up again despite enjoying it overall.
    The only reason I could think of for faking their departure and subsequent would be to ruled out as suspects if the authorities were contacted and they were forced to make their escape early, if the gang accompanied them they likely either would've been kidnapped or subjected to a watery end. They can't be suspects if they're not there.
    Of course, that plan ultimately failed since the professor must've seen them before they could change into their costumes at some point in order to know who abducted him.

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  6 місяців тому

      If I had to guess, I think the three of them overpowered Poisson in his cabin without wearing their disguises, since what would be the point? They were planning on locking him in the brig, not scare him away, so it wouldn't matter if he knew who was kidnapping him.
      I do have to ask why the cabin was that torn up? You'd think three large sailors would have been able to abduct a skinny researcher without too much effort.

    Joe, I just worked ten hours at my job in preparation for the Super Bowl, and got home with Popeyes for dinner to watch UA-cam on my Apple TV-to discover you uploaded. My crappy work day was instantly forgotten. Thanks for all your hard work. I hope to one day do a video essay of my own on the golden age Wonder Woman (I’m currently reading all the omnibuses that have come out) and I hope you’ll get to see it!
    I have wanted to ask you, since you finished the New Scooby-Doo Movies, if you could pick any guest star to appear on that show or Scooby Doo and Guess Who (be it someone modern, or someone from the 70’s, or someone who has passed away), who would you pick? For me, for a 70’s celebrity I’d pick The Ramones (maybe they show up during a mystery of a haunted music academy as a references to The Ramones’ “Rock and Roll High School”) or for a more modern celebrity I’d pick either Guy Fieri or the late Robin Williams or Steve Irwin.
    Have a wonderful day!

    • @JoeGoesOver
      @JoeGoesOver  6 місяців тому

      Good luck with your own video and do whatever you can to finish it! One thing doing this channel has taught me is that creativity should always be encouraged, in almost every form. I've found that even when reading, watching or listening to art that doesn't appeal to me personally, I'll still appreciate the time, effort and passion that went into creating it.
      Within reason, of course. I would be hard-pressed to call any Asylum film "art".
      You're not the only one who would have loved to have seen Robin Williams meet the Gang. When this question pops up, he's usually at the top of proposed guest stars. For myself, it's difficult to say. I've never been one who was particularly fond of the idea of "guest stars" since it can go very wrong if you're not careful *cough Vince McMahon *cough, but off the top of my head, I would get a kick out of the actual voice actors appearing in the series. I know this actually happened a few times over the years, but if I could pick anyone living or dead, I'd choose everyone who ever voiced a Scooby character- Don Messick, Heather North, Casey Kasem, etc.
      I'm... a bit of a voice nerd.

    Considering how poorly that one live action movie Cotton Candy monster faired against Shaggy and Scooby, that kelp monster suit wearing bad guy is lucky they haven't yet apparently had time to eat much east Asian cuisine. Cause I am fairly sure if that one guy in the clunky suit got jumped by a ravenously hungry teenager totting a bottle of soy sauce and a hungry great dane out for some grub, they wouldn't have done so well.
    For the second case: Wouldn't having a steam room operating at night with no supervision and nobody on site to keep an eye on it constitute as a fire hazard? Heck, if the villain wanted revenge, they should have just snuck underground and committed arson to burn the whole stadium to the ground/damage large parts of the field via the steam room. I'm sure any insurance company investigators would take a look at the steam room left running overnight combined with the claimant having financial difficulties looking a bit suspicious, and either found a valid reason or some loophole to avoid paying. Considering how badly the owner needed these games to be played, wouldn't simply getting them canceled have been enough to ruin him if he as the owner was proven to have poor fire safety practices? Especially if we think about the potential of organized crime being involved. Which could influence the suspect pool and let the culprit sneak off back to their own life with little worry of being tied to the crime, short of making any major mistakes?
