The listing given was 200,000 miles "driven". The wording is crafty to the untrained eye. There may be a bit of truth to that in that the owner selling it drove it that 200k before selling. So the truth is stretched to make one think there is only 200k.

Don’t let those miles worry you Mike. The LQ9 is a bulletproof engine. I’m sure it’s the original engine untouched. The LQ9 is paired to a 4L65E transmission, not the 4L60E in the 1/2 ton Silverados, Tahoes, etc. Its a much stronger transmission than the 4L60E, just use the tow haul button on the column shift when towing and I’m sure you’ll give it a fresh fluid change for good measure. These GMT800 trucks are the best trucks GM ever produced by a mile. Quiet, comfortable, sturdy, reliable, and parts are cheap and readily available even for the Escalade. It’s just a Yukon with lipstick and a better drivetrain.

I have a 2003 cadillac ext that only has 160,000 on it. This makes me feel really good that I can get many more years out of it. The only issue I have right now is a rear main oil leak that I'm about to get repaired

    • @StarHunter28
      @StarHunter28 4 місяці тому +2

@@phillipowen-4p1gca93honestly if the rear main isn't dripping too bad, I wouldn't worry about it. Rear mains just leak on gmt800s, no matter the engine trans combo. I just put a quart extra in my Duramax when I change it.

Hey, if it's the original engine, take it as a positive, it runs great aside from the exhaust leak. The brake rotors in the back might be the reason you don't have any brakes. About the headliner, you might as well get it re-upholstered, if you try to clean it you might remove the rest in the process. I did notice on the rear driver side wheel, the gap between the back of the wheel and the bumper looks wider than the front, it might be the angle of the video but to me it looked like that

Straighten it out a little, then drive it to 500001 miles or document the journey to the finish line. If it makes it, it's a great story. If it doesn't, have a chase car keeping watch so you can comfortably film it leaving you stranded. It could be fun no matter how it ends up.

It may all be highway miles those never hurt a car and it's easy to rack up the miles quick if your job requires to drive a lot g distance..I still think you got a good deal..I like her she's tough as nails ..

Ps those hydroboost lines coming from the power steering pump to the master cylinder also leaks at the compression fittings. Remove plastic covers on them and clean them and youll usually see it seeping from the fittings. As you stated the seals also go bad. Some are included with new lines too. Hope it helps! 🤘

I was shocked when you found out that it had so many miles. It actually cleaned up good. I think you should return the fender and get an eraser wheel to remove the pinstripe from the rest of the body and just keep the fenders. Why were you wanting to replace them? The third brake lights on these get stolen and sold for a high price. I had a 2002. Make sure the trans cooling lines are are good. I think the wheels look good on it. Headlights are cheap. A lot of parts are cheap for these. I’d say, play with it first before you go all in on the reconditioning. Let me know the VIN and I can check the carfax.

Those engines run forever. Seen the 6.0s with 500k no rebuild or head gaskets before heh They are great motors. Highly recommend upgrading to the 07-08 brakes with larger rotors and calipers also with twin pistons(make sure you get the mounting brackets too), makes a huge difference in stopping power in the front brakes since you have to work on them anyways it's worth replacing them and the rubber lines. Make sure if you do you at least go to the 17 inch gm or escalade factory rims or larger or they won't fit. I recommend getting them from RockAuto and getting the ones from Power Stop brakes. Also I would advise getting there crossdrilled and slotted rotors. Or just get them off an 07 08 Tahoe, Yukon, or Escalade. Same price as regular and no warp or fade under heavy loads ie towing. If you are planing on towing a lot or long hauls i would also upgrade the factory transmission cooler to a larger one. Jusy make sure you always use the tow button or you will burn out the torque converter in them.

Mike, Cadillac has the best Bose audio system setups than the other makes who uses Bose for premium sounds. In the Eldorado, Seville and Deville, the Bose radio comes with different DSP settings like Driver, Front Seat, Rear Seat, Spacious and Ambience. Its rare to hear about Bose speakers being blown. They last a long time and still sound clear as if the car was new.

I now have my dad's 2004 Escalade that he got new with 6.0 LQ9. About 80K real miles on it. Certain things were expensive to repair like the servo controlled blend doors, which we had done and they get sticky every now and then . .
My auto ride air suspension works OK right now, but they are prone to failure. The air compressor with auto-ride shocks can be expensive, so a lot of guys just remove it entirely and replace them with regular shocks. I made a note of the recommended shocks some guys were chatting about in a forum : Bilstein HD Front #F4-BE5-6500-H0 and Bilstein HD BE5-E380-H0, Bilstein 24-065009 Shocks (front), BILSTEIN 24-185677 460 SHOCKS (Rear). I have no idea if these are confirmed part numbers
The engine is also prone to piston slap when cold.
The engine is excellent on these with a reputation of lasting a long time. Now, there are some quirks. SOME owners have oil use with the LQ9. Mine uses small amounts of oil, and it's normal to do so says GM. Mine uses about 24 ounces in 4K miles, so I am not concerned about that little bit. Google "LQ9 burns oil" and there are plenty of threads on it.
One of the best posts I saw was from a man who maintains a fleet of 60 of the LQ9 with good record keeping:
0-100k miles none to less than a qt per 4000 miles
100-150k miles, about a qt per 4000 miles
    150-250k miles 2 qts per 4000 miles
What I want to see is you fix this one up, AND also buy that high mileage Lexus LX470 you guys looked at which I would think overall is a better built SUV than a Escalade, such as with the electronics

I got a 03 with 160k on it. If I can get that out of it I’ll be more than happy 😅! I’ve already doubled what was on it when I bought it!! Come on 500k

Replace headliner clean carpets replace seats restore headlights fix breaks and throw on that other aftermarket rim get a new set of tires fix exhaust leak and call it a day. Use it till she dies.

I'd definitely go back to a stock GM wheel/tire. I'm sure you could find something from a Tahoe or suburban for cheap even. Other than the wheels and brakes she looks like fun project.

After a vehicle is sold from one private party to another, the buyer can ask for their money back, but the seller generally does not have to agree to cancel ….

The last thing I would worry about is the radio. You should be worried about the brakes.
