Totally agree about all the current SUV's flooding the market, it's sad. I'm a rare breed who still likes a traditional car, over an SUV. However, they are becoming fewer and far between. Have a 2016 Impala and hanging onto that for as long as I can, since they of course got rid of that to bring the new Chevy Blazer to market. 😖
American car companies, the big 3 may not be making cars anymore but plenty of foreign competition in that market. The SUV makers are going to be stuck with a lot of gas hogs with fuel prices at what they are currently.

Worked at Bose on the retail side from 03-07 while I was in college. Great company to work for. Good times. One sub is located in the rear and the other in the center console. I really enjoyed this video
The Lincoln Navigator actually invented the Luxury SUV segment, the Escalade seems to really enhanced it. I still have a 2013 Navigator L and it is very reliable with no squeaks or rattles, even with just under 200K miles on it.
People surely disagree what was the first luxury SUV but it sure was not navigator lol. Mercedes ML and Lexus both predate it and were more luxurious. Some say it is range rover, others say it is jeep super wagoner or whatever it was.. much before navigator.. u must define luxury very weirdly to think navigator was first😀

These gm 6.0 v8 sounded great all around- had the most satisfying deep natural tone. no need to "pipe" in the noise either! just had to get used to the needle always bending to E. In terms of the size game, Ford Excursion was even bigger- came out during this early 2000s period of suv one-up-manship. But the Escalade firmly held onto the luxury-truck image and notoriety the strongest for some time. . /as crossovers later on began their light of day
Not the vehicle Tony suffocated Christophah in but it was the one he chased down Phil Leotardo in. Anyway I love your videos, I don't know if you read these comments or not but your miserableness and hatred of everything reminds me so much of myself it's insane. I watched one yesterday of a green and green and green interiored Coupe Deville and while waiting for the gate to open you said something like "this is great to drive, it really helps me forget about how much I hate everybody and every thing" and kept talking but I had to pause and rewind because I was laughing so hard, and I was in a shitty mood and man I really needed that belly laugh so thank you for that. Also speaking of that gate, I'm sure it's been mentioned before but God forbid you lived there and were rushing home having to take an emergency dump... I've seen slow ones before but that's just ridiculous. Anyway I don't comment much because I watch most of my UA-cam from my couch though my TV but I had to leave some kind of praise and here it is. I love these videos. Thanks and keep up the good work. -John from Chicago

Okay Bill, thank you for another video. Seems like you’re slacking a bit… lol. All kidding aside, I am a subscriber and avid viewer of your channel. I, more often than not, switch to Autohaus’ website to look at pricing as I do have a small collection and want to continue to add to it. I am a native Floridian born and raised in Miami. Graduated from FIU and never looked back albeit I do visit Miami from time to time. Most of my family is still there. I live in Germany now and have been looking for a large luxury SUV for some time now. This one really sparked my attention. I owned a 2005 when I still lived stateside and hated selling it but was too much to ship here at the time. So, before Autohaus puts too much into it, how much would it take to buy as is and have you guys arrange shipping to Germany?
This one was a showing of a master at work. You managed to bring up any number of points I have mentioned here, and on other video channels, and rolled it up neatly into one package. Especially the part about the SUV craze being the death of everything else. One thing, though, of the undesirable elements you mentioned, the worst may be angry, wine sipping, blonde haired white female real estate agents. Here, even with crossovers, they are absolutely psychotic, and a far bigger threat to me and the Evil Prius than the guys with the big diesel pickups. They make Virginia Beach my least favorite city in the area to drive in. Perhaps the SUVs with the "Captain's Chair" option had that huge console in the back to carry the containers of boxed wine. The SUV craze I tend to call a need for some people to look down on everybody else. If you take it down to its roots, I consider those roots to be Detroit's answering the fuel crisis with shrinkage instead of technology. The 1985 C Bodies by GM and the 1986 E Body cars that followed them were especially a step too far. Oddly, the first thing GM axed to build more trucks and SUVs was the last of their body on frame cars...
Also, the Ford Explorer was the first SUV to really have me seething. It became so popular that everybody had to make an SUV. Also, Escalades are just Tahoes with nicer suspensions and interiors.
Adam's Rare Classic Cars channel has an interview with the designer for this Escalade that's really interesting. It's amazing how much sheetmetal it shares with the Tahoe yet looks completely different. Everything from the A-pillar back is accomplished with cladding over straight up Tahoe. The dash is also kinda like that, an Escalade unique "pad" fascia of sorts placed over the regular Tahoe stuff. The front end is the only part that's 100% unique. Considering those restraints they accomplished a lot with a little.
Bill, sir, I can't believe the stream of consciousness you bring to all of us. Just when I think it's going to be another completely shitty day,....you get it done. You drive, I will recline in the back on the way to the Rush concert.
LOL @ the Navigator closeup at the end. Our CEO had one of those in the late 90's, and everyone thought it was insane. Great video, Bill! I recognize the cheap, early 2000's GM interior bits on this "Cadillac". Those door panels are nasty. People did love this thing at the time, but I never got the appeal. I remember one of the nerds at work buying a giant suv for the tax deduction, financing it as much as possible, and suggested others do the same. He thought the economy was never going to recover. That was probably terrible advice.
The only reason to choose an Escalade over a top level trimmed out Tahoe is the 6.0. (And possibly the awd, but I’d say that’s a downside to offering true 4wd as an option)
I like older gen cars because the simply look different compared to all the cookie cutter cars on the road today. As an owner of the 2nd gen Escalade and former z71 Tahoe of the same gen, I prefer the slade. Just as solid, better transmission, more power, and way more comfortable all around ride. It’s the best used vehicle I’ve owned yet. It should be a classic truck, it is for me.
The fact that all the full size SUVs look alike is not something only SUVs have but all GM cars since the 1960s . Camaros look like Firebirds, Chevelles and GTO, Cadillac and Pontiac and Oldsmobile, Chevy trucks, GMC trucks, all share frames, body parts, interiors. I own a '08 Escalade ESV awd platinum with 114, 000 black on black and I use it as a daily driver work truck. And aside from the fake wood trim and the plastic door handles, it's a great truck. It has the 6.2 litre aluminum block aluminum heads fuel injected stock 405 horse power that I had programmed to an extra 60 horses through the computer. It's rolling on 22s had 24s when I bought it but with the weight of my tools and material, ladders, the low sidewalls wouldn't handle that so I switched to 22s and it's still very fast and very comfortable to drive and I am in Los Angeles traffic every day. Luckily I make good money because I have the motor programmed to run on 91 octane with a 30 gallon tank, and Biden's gas prices costing me $185.00 to fill the tank. I still love my truck
Bill, why not ask people if they have unique or older cars that you could review in the local area where you live. Go to car‘s and coffee show and then ask owners if they would you like 125k people to see their pride and joy. That way you get some more interesting cars if they are not at auction.
I would like to see Bill team with Adam from Rare Classic Cars on a podcast and share their wealth of knowledge about classic and rare cars with viewers.
Exactly, the Buick Rendezvous and Pontiac Aztek were on GM's U-Body platform originally designed for their Minivans. The platform provided some utility but with a more car-like ride than Gm's truck platform. The Rendezvous and Aztek were GM's first attempts at CUVs.
Yep a ext..and when that truck rolls down the embankment…pause video it’s this “body style”ext that crashes..they weren’t smashing a brand new 07 (at the time) when they were 70k.
This thing isn't a Cadillac. Malicious glare at Lincoln, but this was the downfall of everything. Ginormous anodyne SUVs in every driveway, clogging the roads, fueling fantasies of the poseur urban adventurers, and, as much as I love horsepower - wasteful bloated behemoths most buyers never need. Not even mentioning the whole new 'class' of customer - towing, what's towing? Gotta have chrome wheels and gold badges though. SUVs - "Everybody open your mouth" - Barenaked Ladies. Put a big frickin tax on all of them.
Mostly men who have to compensate for their lack of manliness drive large trucks in which they don't need. I am not referring to work trucks just fashion trucks.
@@MX-CO If you buy with a tow purpose, I’m fine with that. I do understand there is a need for tow and haul vehicles. My issue is people who buy these things and never use them to for their intent. Buying a 3 ton vehicle just to drive back-and-forth to work is beyond ridiculous. Even buying a seven passenger crossover or SUV for your two kids is ridiculous. Buying these oversize vehicles that guzzle fuel is killing the environment and people in general with the amount of accidents they cause. Their higher center of gravity makes them prone to rolling over and not as stable in emergency maneuvers. I don’t even have to discuss those dreaded Jeep Wranglers dressed up in _everything off-road,_ 5,000 watt LED light bars and finished off with big wheels and low profile off-road tires.
New cars have always looked like each other. Think back to the 70s and 80s. They all were the same box cars. It’s not a new phenomenon it’s always been this way
I can't tell the difference between old cars tbh. Even between brands. But I will say I hate how brands are trying to make their brands look alike. I can't tell the difference between BMWs MB, etc Toyota and the Koreans are the way to it. They look part of their respective brands but you can tell the look different and effort was placed. Not saying they are all good looking or anything but at least they tried.
I was in high school when this came out and I fell in love with these trucks. Never owned one and never drove one but I still like this generation escalade. Yeah every rapper and nfl and basketball player bought these and rimmed them up with sound systems but like you said it saved the company put Cadillac on the map and is what made them who they are today. Great video.
It doesn't take much effort with these things to make that fuel gauge dive lol. My 05 Slade ESV takes over $130 to fill these days (used to be $70 last year) and combined with the 10-12mpg in the city she's just really kicking my ass like never before... I love the damn thing and been reliable as a tank but with over $5/gallon gas now I'm letting her go. Glad I got to see this vid before she's gone.
Me toooo. I have a 2002 GMC Yukon Denali with 130k Miles. & I love it. She's not in the best condition interior wise, but she's not terrible either. I've seen some of these trucks where it looked like a tiger thought the leather seats were still alive & attacked them. But mine just has some wear and like one rip on the driver seat where it looks like the previous owner may have been a bit over weight so he dragged his body off of the seat and destroyed the side of the seat. The exterior is not bad either. No rust, no big dents or any body moldings/panels missing. All the same paint. Every time I go out somewhere I get compliments on her or someone trying to buy her off of me. But ever since I was a kid ( I was 12 when these models first came out). I always wanted one lol. The only upgrades I've done to the Denali is that I put in some LED headlights along with some LED tail lights which sort of makes the truck look a little more modernized.
The 2007's Suck. I have one. Plagued with electrical gremlins from ground issues that blow out all sorts of components and sensors. My 2003 Tahoe which was same gen as this was much more reliable.
@@anthonym.cardali1875 Fully agrees. Those were the sad years for all American motor companies that didn't know what they are doing and were very short on budget, almost at the point of chapter 11 or frank bankruptcy, before Obama comes in and makes them straight both in terms of power quality and reliability. Especially 2007 and 8 and a few more years to follow where the time they used the cheapest material and in fact if you look even into the paint, say the A or B pillar of Caddilac Escalade from the same exact year, all have totally worn out paints unless redo sometime later... SUV is just a station wagon in marketing jargon. The only real SUV vehicles are truck based wagons like above. All the rest are just unibody wagons with AWD.
*Yes!* And yes times _however-many-million-rubes_ have bought one thinking they are any 'cooler' than a station wagon, sedan or mini van. In fact, the only difference between a so called S.U.V. and a mini van is the rear doors---sliding on mini vans; hinged on S.U.V.s And the *only difference between **_small_** S.U.V.s and hatchbacks* is.....essentially *nothing.* A bit higher and all wheel drive.
@@kennixox262 I'm not an SUV fan either but I bet that the gas hog SUVs will just be replaced by the hybrid SUVs.
Replaced with electric SUV's.
Hold on my friends! There is a brand out there bringing a proper sedan to us soon. Mazda is due to bring an inline 6 into their next saloon. And as we all know from Bill, 'there's never been a bad inline six!' 👌
I believe I read Mazda cancelled the plan for the inline six RWD sedan.
I agree a lot of those new SUV's look similar even if they are completely different brands.
Fun fact, the ESV body cladding was steel stamped (except the doors) versus the normal length that had the plastic cladding front to back.
Same with the EXT!
The plastic cladding on the normal length is a bummer.
"....shitshow today." You are correct, sir. This also seems to be the beginning of the era of blatant (ongoing) corporate contempt for the consumer. Which is, paradoxically, completely earned when one shells out a serious pile of frogskins to sit high atop a heap of plastic badging second only to the Aztek in ugliness.
I had an 03 with 170k that was a beast. Last generation of GM full size suv with the most comfortable seats. Miss it very much as the Midwest salt belt rusted it away....
I had an 04 in the same color I think they called it diamond white metallic and it was an optional color I think it was $1,000 option those things were so great and so reliable I ended up having four and that body style only one Escalade the other ones were Denalis and don't forget they also made the Cadillac Escalade Platinum which was the top top of the line back then that's always great video
White diamond tri coat or tint coat….or white diamond for short.
Christopher Moltisanti famously said of his Cadillac Escalade “This system’s got no balls”.
But that was a 2007, 3rd Gen
And it was a escalanche ooops Escalade ext. and when that truck flipped and wrecked pause video it was a older ext 02-06 body, like this.
My 2002 escalade is excellent. Great all around truck. 6.0 All wheel drive. Hate if you want, but it get me to south beach every day!!
Enjoy it! I love em, I’ve had 4. I’ll never get rid of my EXT, Can haul and tow anything I need it to and still look good!
Totoly agree about the SUV craze but I am a sucker for these especially the ESV, Danali XL, and Suburban LT. You saw more ESV than the regular length.
Some say it is range rover, others say it is jeep super wagoner or whatever it was.. much before navigator.. u must define luxury very weirdly to think navigator was first😀
@@lukazupie7220 ….OK if you say so….
20:50 only the Escalade "Platinum" trim came with the factory 20's, which came out in 2004.
Bill, discussing the seat back pockets at 33:00 - "again, because these are vehicles that may be used in drive-by shootings..."
I have found my new favorite UA-cam channel in the entire universe! I love that you review ALL of the features and characteristics. 😍☺️😂🤣😂
My Buick Park Ave has those same backup sensor lights. While they aren't a necessity, they are certainly helpful for paralell parking. First try almost every time! Nice video!
Only reason I like back up cameras is too make sure I don't bump anyone else's vechlies! Sad thing is some people can't even back up any vechlie without their cameras 🙄
@@whiteviper1979 so you just said u need the camera to not hit a car but get mad at others who could use it ? You dufus 🤡
Does your Park Ave happen to have the supercharged 3800?
These gm 6.0 v8 sounded great all around- had the most satisfying deep natural tone. no need to "pipe" in the noise either! just had to get used to the needle always bending to E.
In terms of the size game, Ford Excursion was even bigger- came out during this early 2000s period of suv one-up-manship.
But the Escalade firmly held onto the luxury-truck image and notoriety the strongest for some time. . /as crossovers later on began their light of day
I miss my '05 Escalade! Such a great vehicle to drive.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

just got home!!! perfect timing Mr Bill, thx brother stay safe.
A new review by Bill and its the Cadillac Escalade. I think I need to run and buy a lottery ticket because this is a lucky day.
Geez, that 2004 Escalade is in fantastic condition. In the northern states they are all rusted out on the bottoms at that age. Great video, loved the arguement Bill had with the OnStar voice.
I've never had any interest in Twitter until you got on it Bill. I clicked on your link and immediately laughed. LOVE the photo of the goat on the Boxster as your icon. I hope he was tasty! 🤗
I love how the wiper stalk is almost the exact same as my 1997 chevy lumina
Today I learned "when you do it one handed, it makes everything harder." I will definitely take this advice seriously.
HILARIOUS Bill. Having sold Cadillacs for over 30 years (been out of work since the shutdown b s. started. ..) I was rolling when you were arguing with the OnStar lady.
Love watching. Wish I could do the same thing
Hope your sister comes out okay...
I can be bought, fly me to FL & I'll get her car.....
I own a 03 and I love it i use it as a work truck I have a snap on tool box in the back to hold my tools and I have a box trailer with my compressor and other bigger tools for semi truck repair
I own several “interesting” cars; all Cadillacs!
77 coupe Deville, 93 Allante, 08 STS-V, and 09 XLR-V.
Don’t you just love Bill ⚡️⚡️
If you wanted a “cheaper” Escalade back in the day, you could get the one with the 5.3 and it only came in RWD
...or just buy a Chevy Suburban
@@audvidgeek true
4.8 also lol
What a brilliant idea. 👍👍👍
Praise the history of well designed cars we love to remember and let the horror cars be the victim of amnesia.
I would like to see Bill team with Adam from Rare Classic Cars on a podcast and share their wealth of knowledge about classic and rare cars with viewers.
Oh god this is where it all started to go wrong
The reason for the speed limiter is the speed rating of the tires. The LQ9 6L has 9.9:1 compression, it should only require 87 Oct fuel.
A hidden smaller version of this is the Buick Rendezvous. It's like a SUV and minivan combined.
A cousin of the Aztec 🤢 junk
Exactly, the Buick Rendezvous and Pontiac Aztek were on GM's U-Body platform originally designed for their Minivans. The platform provided some utility but with a more car-like ride than Gm's truck platform. The Rendezvous and Aztek were GM's first attempts at CUVs.
Good soprano’s reference but Tony killed Christopher in a black Cadillac Escalade EXT
Yep a ext..and when that truck rolls down the embankment…pause video it’s this “body style”ext that crashes..they weren’t smashing a brand new 07 (at the time) when they were 70k.
I just detailed a 2012, ESV, fir a friend. It's like detailing a Lear Jet, and took just as long.
Couldn’t agree more. I’m a station wagon lover, and hate SUV’s because they are largely responsible for killing the wagon body style.
Oh man, someone else who shares my disdain for large trucks and SUVs!
👍
Mostly men who have to compensate for their lack of manliness drive large trucks in which they don't need. I am not referring to work trucks just fashion trucks.
I love em 💘 I also do some towing but in general I love them and for a fair price I would buy this one!
@@whodahellru8124 I just think they are cool and comfortable too though, even the Jeeps look cool to me and off reading and overlanding is awesome
For some reason, hearing Bill complain about the weather always puts me in a great mood.
New cars have always looked like each other. Think back to the 70s and 80s. They all were the same box cars. It’s not a new phenomenon it’s always been this way
I can't tell the difference between old cars tbh. Even between brands. But I will say I hate how brands are trying to make their brands look alike. I can't tell the difference between BMWs MB, etc
Toyota and the Koreans are the way to it.
"Little tiny angry blonde woman (realtors) who drinks wine from a box." Lol!
I swear the fuel gauge visibility dropped when Bill merged on the freeway at end of video!

I love the Denali version of this model and the Caddy's one gen later (2007-2014)
@@kingjay239 the Denali is so much nicer as well as It looks so much sleeker and tougher without all the godyiness of the Escalade!
Usually the speed limiters (or governors if you like) are set for the OEM tire DOT speed rating. If it's not physically limited by the combo of gearing, power, drag, etc. they shut you down by the tire rating for safety.

In fact, the only difference between a so called S.U.V. and a mini van is the rear doors---sliding on mini vans; hinged on S.U.V.s
And the *only difference between **_small_** S.U.V.s and hatchbacks* is.....essentially *nothing.* A bit higher and all wheel drive. But somehow millions have deceived themselves thinking otherwise.
