Who else remembers the red screen and the creepy music playing when there was either something wrong with the disc or something wrong with the ps2 itself
I remember how mindblown people were when they found out that you can combine a game console and a DVD player. Especially at a time when DVD players were so expensive.
The ps2 had diversity. It had games for ALL markets. Horror and strategy weren’t overlooked for homogenised FPS games. The worst thing about today’s generation is all publishers want a king game as opposed to a dozen.
Every game has racing, shooting, sports, rpgs , adventure etc. How is that not variety. I think the biggest thing that makes it seem like less is the amount of multiplats. Think about it long and hard for a moment. Back to the 80's and 90's. How many games were multi platform? Now fast forward. Almost every game is multi platform. People wanted it.. now it's here but damn it sure feels like the market has dwindled in the creativity department as a result. This kind of proves your point. While the genres are there the competition is diminishing, aside from what little exclusives remain.
@@SendThePainBelow86 oh, you again? are you implying that a golf minigame in gta 5 counts as a full fledged golf game for variety? variety means having multiple actually good very specific touge themed racing games like the ps2 did, it does NOT compare to having a couple hundred meters of windy roads in driveclub, if you're satisfied with homogenised action adventure and fps games at least don't make up bullshit to prove a point that doesn't exist
Most gamers are too young to remember, but prior to the PS3, Sony promised that all consoles moving forward would be backward compatible. We all know how long they kept that promise though.
@@justthisguy1948 Prices for the first players in 1997 started at $600 and could top out at prices over $1000. By the end of 2000, players were available for under $100 at discount retailers.
Every console is essentially a hot girl at school and the PS2 is your childhood sweetheart turned crush, turn girlfriend, turned wife and finally the mother of your gaming children. She's a dime.
I remember putting a ps1 disc on the ps2 and it worked, but my brother told me to remove it he was afraid that the ps2 will turn into a ps1 and it will not be able to read ps2 DVDs anymore xD
lol i remember we owned a separate dvd player and since ps2 could play dvds, i thought the dvd player could run a ps2 game. parents locked the console during weekdays but left the dvd player out so i thought i could sneak in and play a game on it. boi was i disappointed when i realized
The best thing about the PS2 is its variety of games, something the PlayStation brand prides on in general but is best exemplified with the PS2. You can ask 100 people their top 5 PS2 games and you'll probably get 80 unique games lol
I remember playing gta Sa in my Brothers friend house in 2004, i tried everything to make us go there again, and i didnt even pretend i liked The kid, i Just wanted to play it again so badly hahaha
The Golden Age of Gaming. Oh how today the greedy corporations have minimized quality and stream lined greed. Not if us Gamers have anything to do and say about it.
The Astronomican Actually makes sense, since most gamers today can afford to throw money around like that. Back then, we relied solely on allowances or birthday money; not exactly much for corporations to take advantage of there.
@@TheHellfire007 Goldberg was my favourite too , along with the rock in that game . That back kick of goldberg's was too much for anyone ( holding down arrow and pressing X button )
I donated mine along with all my games to a kid that lives near me ... He's putting good use to it ... Sadly it was only collecting dust in my house ... Good times tho... :')
I still have mine boxed away, and my ps3,ps4xbox s,Wii And switch. The one I wish I still had was my old Nintendo’s and my old ps2 games. I have the system but no games.
It certainly did. The amount of JRPG released at that time blew me away especially Chrono Trigger(still one of my fav). But PS2 really outdid themselves by that time, as said in the video, nobody really expected like this to happen from them and they revolutionize 3D games.
I still play on mine. 1. Tekken 5 2. WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain! 3. Need For Speed Underground 2 4. Street Fighter EX3 5. Galactic Wrestling Feat. Ultimate Muscle 6. Def Jam Fight for NY 7.Freekstyle 8. Soul Calibur II 9. The King Of Fighters 2006 10. SSX Tricky
I remember when I got a PS2 during Christmas when they had just Launched and were very hard to find. I could have sold it for $1000 on eBay but my 12 year old ass wouldn’t dare. It was worth $10,000 to me to be able to play it Christmas Day.
That was a pretty good game and I honestly dont know why people hate on it besides it being a gta clone Too bad my disc only allows me to progress about 2 missions before it crashes
My heart's still hurt to remember that time I was begging to my parents to buy PS2 or even PS1 as Christmast Present, but instead they came home with a mini VCD Player for the TV in their room and a short pant and two pair of sock for me.
ps2 was the best because: 1) had great games 2) backwards compatible with ps1 games 3) had dvd player 4) same memory card and controllers slot as the ps1 5) decent price
It was the best because the hype built up with the PS1, the great games came after it was already a success because all the people that had a PS1 knew that the upgrade would be the PS2 even tho the hardware besides the DVD was pretty shit and pretty hard to program for. Thats why ken Kutaragi got fired from Sony and the PS3 wasnt as successful as it should have been, his way of doing consoles was to use weird hard to code hardware that was superior/inferior/expensive compared to better/cheaper hardware available at the time.
I was playing Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal yesterday and i looked up some cheat codes. I found out if you held R1 R2 L1 L2 at the same time, on the main menu screen. You get to play a Sly 2 demo. I love that some games back in this generation had demos for other games. I also remember playing an Area 51 demo on one of the mortal kombat games.
Did you know that there is a code to replace ratchets wrench with a double bladed light saber?(Think of Darth Mauls light saber, except its purple.) Here's the code in case you wanna try it out. i.ytimg.com/vi/idcHnrq5PQA/maxresdefault.jpg
I found out about Playstation 2 when i was 6, and that's in 2006. I'm still sad to this day that i couldn't afford or get a PS2. The days i've spent going to those "Pay for play" stores in my country is just my memories.
Youre not the only one tho. I know PS2 when I was 8, on which during 2011, my uncle introduced me with that system. Nowdays its just hard to find one, even second hand model, and its very hard to find the brand new ones at game store
Resident Evil 4 on the PlayStation 2 absolutely blew my mind. I remember the lava level and actually feeling the heat from the pit. That's how much that game put me into the world.
The ps2 version was honestly the shitty version it just looked so much better on gamecube. Yeah the ps2 version had some added content that was cool but the Wii version still ended up making the ps2 version irrelevant because it had the GameCube's better graphics but the extra stuff they added to the ps2 port
That was a nice conclusion you came to at the end there. It really was the real deal. I wish the same level of care and attention still went into most games today.
The issue now is that big companies like EA have to keep their stock prices up so the developers, who DO put effort and love into their games are forced to make bad decisions.
What are you talking about? You pay $60 for a half of a game, then you get to pay even more for DLC (especially pay to win games). Instead of sequels, we get "remastered" games which have slightly better graphics, but you still pay full price for a game you bought already. I love video games but don't act like this is the golden age of gaming when you have companies like EA milking their customers for all they are worth.
Video games today are a fantastic value. You say games are incomplete, etc. But think about it like this. You purchase a DVD/Blu Ray movie for $20-25. You get 90-120 minutes of absolutely linear entertainment. Compare that to any AAA title today which rarely has less than 10 hours of gameplay, many of which go into the 20s, 30s, 40s of hours of gameplay. You pay $60 for this “unfinished game”. What more do you expect? Someone offers you 40 hours of gameplay for $60 but it’s not enough. Doesn’t make sense. You want more content, pay for it. I’d say if you get at least 10 hours of entertainment out of any game, you’ve gotten your $60 worth. Period.
I’m not gonna lie this might just be the greatest console ever made. The sheer amount of variety in games and masterpieces that came out of this console is staggering. Splitscreem for a ridiculous amount of games, no micro transactions. You plug in a game and you don’t have to worry about no extra costs. Theys a reason why many think of this as the greatest console to have ever been made and it hasn’t changed since
This so much. The variety of high quality games from big studios was absolutely mind blowing. You could literally get multiple 9/10 games from a single genre PER YEAR. Whenever somebody (me included) complains about the downfall of modern gaming, THIS is likely what always comes to mind. Alot of these gamers were used to the PS2 release schedule and the sheer variety and amount of good games being released and that simply doesnt exist anymore from the big players. Sure there are indies, but these sadly can hardly even reach the polish and "size" of PS2 games (which already had dozens to hundreds of devs working on them).
it's not nostalgia and it's not false memory. It's our current screens. Remember your old TV? everything used to look like trash, even your standard movies were pixelated as f***. Thats why games, in comparison, looked way better than even now in a few cases. But thats just my theory, think it makes sense. I recently tested it. play a ps2 game on a TV from the corresponding era and boom. you no longer notice all the akwardness and clipping you see now. you're to busy wondering how we were used to look a tiny pixalated screens :D
Adolf Hitler not nostalgia, when the games were out I remember as a kid with my brother we'd be like man how could graphics get any better. When you have better things and have them taken it's a bigger deal if that makes sense hopefully u get what I'm saying it's weird to explain
- DVD player - PS1 backwards compatibility That made buying a PS2 at launch a no brainer. But next gen, I didn't give a damn about Blu-Ray (PS3) or HD-DVD (Xbox 360 add-on).
I miss my PS2; far, far too many great memories: Odin Sphere, Final Fantasy X and XII, Armored Core: Nexus, Devil May Cry, R-Type Final, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus, XENOSAGA, dot Hack, Persona 3, Digital Devil Saga, SMT: Nocturne, TRAPT, Phantasy Star Universe, Half-Life, Unreal Tournament, and every PS1 game I still had at the time.
Even though I have a ps4 and a gaming pc, I still find myself playing games on my ps2 hooked up to a crappy crt tv that I got from goodwill for 10 bucks.
I have a bigass 32" CRT television I kept from childhood in my bedroom for all my standard def consoles. Among many, that's where I keep my PS2 slim jacked in.
Best christmas present ever... Although I got the switch for this xmas, but you know that feeling of waking up and not knowing what you got... And then opening a big box and BOOM! PS2!!!
I got my PS2 in April, 2001 for $399 (yes, I got scalped). It still works to this day, and I've been playing it in the last few weeks to remind me of the glory days of gaming when $50 got you a full game and no "surprise mechanics" existed.
My top 5 ps2 Games? In order, I suppose: Genji: Dawn of The Samurai God of War 2 The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning GTA: San Andreas Resident Evil IV Those games right there were practically my LIFE as a kid. I got God of War 2 by renting it from Blockbuster and forgetting to ever return it. So, after my dad paid double for it, I got to keep it, lol. The PS2 and the Nintendo 64 were what made up 80% of my childhood. Okay, 85%
My love for Genji later spawned my love for Dark Souls, having given me that bloodlust for boss battles and intense areas filled with enemies and collecting newer and better armors. Last year, Nioh brought back so many memories of slicing open horrid beasts in Genji. And I of course still adore the entire God of War series, which I’ve collected across multiple consoles over the years. Man. The PS2 is definitely the best console ever made, hands down.
It played DVDs. The PS2 was cheaper than some DVD players and it also played CDs. To top it off, there was a wide variety of games that would interest almost anyone.
If it wasnt for the DVD feature i wouldn’t of had a ps2 its the only way i could convince my parents to get me one since we never had a dvd player at the time
HAZARDOUS88 So, true. You didn't buy just for the exclusives you bought for the console itself, now Consoles are so useless that only thing going for them is the exclusives. Even if the PS2 had no exclusives I would have still got it.
Jody Boles It's the foundation that everything after it was built on. It's from a time before the gaming industry was as ridiculously profitable as it is today. That's important, because profit is all these companies care about. Back then, good games = good money. There was no micro transactions. No DLC. No updates. The companies had to get everything right on the first time. Now I'm not saying that today's games aren't as good, but you didn't see any Battlefront 2 situations in that era. Despite the fact it didn't have DLC or micro transactions, look at how profitable that thing was! And like the video said, their marketing really helped. Which really showed that they cared about the console being great, but for whatever reason Sony doesn't market like that anymore *cough look at the vita cough*.
Ratchet and Clank, God of War, Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter sum up my childhood. I love all of those franchises today at 25 as much as I loved them when I was 10. I love modern gaming but the early 2000s were a goldmine.
Lord Luke Lightbringer lucky you,i couldn't so i used go to the video game parlors to play it for many years, then i finally bought a used ps2 slim in 2010 when it was the end but still few games came out for it,then after a few years,i sold it to buy xbox 360,and after that ps4,now i have again bought a ps2 just to play smackdown hctp with my friends every weekend,i have all three consoles now,but ps2 is the best of all time.😍
Viktor Ceder New Battlefront sucks compared to what it could be. I guess you could say that about anything, but it was nearly impossible for EA/DICE to fuck it up but lo and behold
Let's make this simple, the PS2 was the entertainment center of your bedroom/family room. Not only were the games spectacular and full of storyline diversity, but it helped promote the age of the dvd. Every kid from junior high school to college had a dvd collection and because of the low cost of the PS2, it became possible. Not to mention its earlier releases that were backward compatible and its ability to play cds. This thing was/is a legend. Hall of Fame worthy.
I remember buying my PS2. I was at a Best Buy wandering around waiting to hear how many they had available. I was going back to customer service when one of the employees there was telling the manager over the phone they had one available. I called dibbs on it in mid-sentence and the announcement never came out.
Ohhh sorry, you lose. And it was a Daily Double. Sometimes people get lucky. Deal with it. What part don't you accept? A BB just having one of a popular item? If that's it then you haven't been to one lately.
My Top 5 PS2 Games is: *Shadow of the Colossus *Silent Hill 2 & 3 *Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater *Final Fantasy X & 12 *Persona 3 & 4 I still have my PS2 right now and its still working fine.

The Ratchet and Clank series was easily my favorite PS2 games. Others were: San Andreas Simpsons Hit & Run Def Jam Fight For NY X-Men Legends Ultimate Spider-Man Freekstyle
I was the only one of my friends that didn't own a PS2. I missed out on that generation of gaming. I seriously stopped playing video games for about 6 years... Until I met this girl. We started dating and video games would come up in several of our conversations. Some of the fondest memories of my childhood were with a SNES and a PS1. She asked why now, as an adult, I hadn't bought a PS3 or an Xbox. I didn't really know what to answer... My birthday came around, and lo and behold, this girl bought me a PS3. The original one, that was backwards compatible. I finally got to play PS2 AND PS3 games. RE4, GOW, Tekken Tag, Ratchet & Clank, MGS 2&3... oh man. Don't get me wrong, I always made time for this girl. How could I not. She doesn't even like video games. Fast forward to today... I now own a PS4 and play games with my son. The same girl that gave me a second (and better) childhood also made me a father. I just knew I would marry her back then.
Tbh, the PS2 owes the bulk of its success to the fact that it was the successor of the PS1. The PS2 sold 155 million units and that's impressive, but even more impressive is the fact that the PS1 sold over 100 million units a full console generation earlier, back when the console market was much smaller. Sure, Sony did everything right, they managed to hang on to the game studios, franchises and customers (pretty much everyone with a PS1 eventually bought a PS2, and so did their younger siblings). Integrating the DVD was also a damn good idea. But the credit really goes to the PS1 for being the first 32-bit console with to power to streamline 3D graphics, thus redefining console gaming and making the industry explode.
moismyname ofcourse the credit goes to the ps1 but credit is still due to the ps2. I mean look at the ps3 that followed the success of two previous generation consoles while also incorporating a bluray player and yet it struggled in sales in its early years. I mean the ps3 really only picked up abit later in its life when the price dropped. The ps2 could of easily ended up like the ps3 where it lost to the xbox in the beginning and only picked up later in sales
In fact coming from the PS1 te PS2 turned out to be disappointng for me. Metal Gear and Final Fantasy X were not as good as i expected, Wipeout was garbage, Silent Hill 2 as a masterpiece though. But overall the PS1 as more fun, fast, more arcade type games and better RPG's.
moismyname nah, sorry. Your arguments are flawed. While it was impressive that the ps1 sold This much units in a time where the market was smaller, the ps2 completely changed gaming as we know it. Gaming went mainstream, online play was starting to be much more emphasized. Even the MOST average games on the ps2 were great. Most people who are gamers or even families have the ps2 or even started with it as their first console, like me. The ps2 also had the ps1’s library at its disposal, essentially making the ps1 look pointless to buy when comparing it to ps2. While the ps1 was a very impressive console, I believe that there will never be anymore consoles like the ps2 that changed the gaming landscape as much as it did.
I had a Gamecube, it did me well (Sonic Adventure 2, Super Mario Sunshine, and the Metroid Prime games), but man my cousin got a PS2 with DBZ Budokai and we would play them for hours. Going through the story in different ways to unlock Super Saiyan 4 for Goku and Vageta so we could duke it out and destroy the stages with the ults. Good times. Spyro was pretty dope too.
Yeah, but my cousin got it for his PS2 and that was the fondest memory I have relating to the PS2. We may not have played any of the Metal Gears, or Shadow of the Colossus on it, but when I hear of a PS2, I remember staying up all night playing that on it.
Perhaps my favorite console of all time, but what I really love is how they actually shrank it and made it portable with the PSP...love that handheld so much for that reason it reminds me so much of the PS2, and although I really dont have much time to sit down somewhere and play the PS2 and ton of games I still own, I always have my PSP in my glove box just because Gran Turismo on it plays so much like it's PS2 counterpart, much like all of the PSP's line up for that matter.
I spent the night in a line in front of Target waiting to get the PS2 on launch. I was so happy I did. I remember Metal Gear Solid 2 and was just amazed when they released a demo for it. I remember being on the ship and in the kitchen of the ship you could shoot the fruit and it would pop and pieces would fall everywhere. I was just so amazed that so much of the environment was interactive.
Just get a ps. Stop whining about platforms when they're not even that expensive to get. Just dont get starbucks for a week and you'd have enough to get a console
I don't go to starbucks. Plus I don't need another console, as I already Own a PS1, 2 and 3, a gamecube and a Nintendo 64. Getting another console to play one or 2 games just isn't worth it to me.
Ok then suit yourself. Every platform is going to have first party studios developing for their own specific platform to further its appeal. No point trying to complain why they won't release their product on other platforms.
rip my ps2.. last for 10 years+.. move around changing house multiple times. dropped more than 100 times. and lastly it broke 2 months ago while my little sister playing dynasty warrior 4 fighting lubu..
I remember trading in my PS2 for an Xbox a couple years before I got the 360 around launch. Since then I've mainly played on Xbox consoles. But I did enjoy my PS2, Dragon Ball Budokai was the game I played the most, especially since I didn't have a memory card for it.
The original xbox live was revolutionary in the console market. I think microsoft deserves more credit for what they brought with the xbox. The ps2 was very weak in the LAN party and massive multiplayer online games. The original xbox had a DVD player also. The reason the PS2 won was because it was riding the coat tail of the PS1, marketed way more than the Xbox, and had more third party developer ties due to their run from the PS1. Microsoft had to develop most of the games for the original xbox from their own studios. And also the PS2 was supported longer than all the other systems. All these factors made it sold the most. If you dont drop support for it, then you will sell more, pretty simple principle. I believe if Microsoft supported the original Xbox longer and got more third party developers, it would have been pretty successful, since the original xbox was more reliable than the xbox 360. I liked the og xbox more than the ps2 because of the xbox live, I had so much fun. With the ps2, you are mostly by yourself playing rpgs, and single player games. They had many good ones and a large variety, but nothing like the LAN and online capability the xbox had, which has defined a big part of modern console gaming. Also the og xbox had its own harddrive, no need for memory cards.
I'm sorry. You could have played so many better games if you stuck with PS.Xbox was great for the couple titles they had, but Sony wiped the floor with everybody as usual. The only exception is PS3, but that still outsold xbox360.
Rodney Huang Years after I got ride of my PS2, a friend of mine had some shooter, forgot the name, but one of the menu options was online mutiplayer. I was surprised that the PS2 even had it and I never really saw Sony advertising it's online service. Its thanks to Microsoft that console mutiplayer gaming grew.
yeah the 360 is probably the best console i've ever owned and had some of the best experiences with it from the early days with halo 3 which at the time seemed to be played by EVERYONE. the 360 controller is still my favourite controller of all time and many other people too as its the most used controller in the world. i still actually go back to playing older console exclusive games on the 360 as it had the best versions between itself and the ps3 like red dead redemption and gta 4 (which was on pc but an abortion port).
My favorite game was Devil may cry! Holy hell i loved that game! Every game of Devil may cry😍 i was 9 years old when my dad came home from work with a ps2 and Devil may cry! The memory of me playing and my dad watching me play, what a happy young boy i was! Good times 😎
My favorite part of the PS2 was turning it on with no CD or DVD inside and listening to the endless ocean sounds, used to lull me to sleep every night. On a side note, you mention that the xbox was best of the 3 at the time? Maybe spec wise, but the gamecube graphics outclassed PS2 and xbox EASILY.
its just like the king of all consoles no one can dethrone the ps2 i have so many great memories with this thing i can't even explain how much i love it, my favorite games were gta sa and midnight club

The ps2 had diversity.
It had games for ALL markets. Horror and strategy weren’t overlooked for homogenised FPS games. The worst thing about today’s generation is all publishers want a king game as opposed to a dozen.
It's also why I now prefer Nintendo this generation. The Switch has variety.
The greatest thing about the ps2 was that no matter what genre you were a fan of there were a ton of games that were beyond good.
Imagine if the PS4 was fully backwards compatible for PS1, PS2 and PS3 games... It'd be the ultimate console
Andrew It would have the biggest game library ever!
Andrew exactly if sony is smart enough they would do that and that's more money for them.
Andrew omg that would be so amazing
Andrew, maybe the PS5 will do that?
Most gamers are too young to remember, but prior to the PS3, Sony promised that all consoles moving forward would be backward compatible. We all know how long they kept that promise though.
DVD player was how I convinced my dad to get me a PS2 XD
King Leek DVD players were not 700 to 1200 dollars like the video said

It’s so cool how the PS2 plays all types of DVDs and Blu Ray Discs.
Every console is essentially a hot girl at school and the PS2 is your childhood sweetheart turned crush, turn girlfriend, turned wife and finally the mother of your gaming children.

I still play mine 😂
I still use mine as a DVD player and CD player and playing nostalgia games on it.
Your a collected aye?
A console challenge is to find a Phillips CDI as only 1 million units were sold but you don’t wanna buy it.
U living the life, sir
Gta san andreas played while visiting a friend, i never left.
Jo King Ironically it's gamers that feed those greedy corporations by falling into MTX traps etc
Jo King what a great time to be child and a gamer.
Essentially we are to blame for the current state of gaming
The Astronomican Actually makes sense, since most gamers today can afford to throw money around like that. Back then, we relied solely on allowances or birthday money; not exactly much for corporations to take advantage of there.
Marcos Moutta so. Kill the internet you say?
The nostalgia hit hard with that opening.

I can not even put into words how that sound makes me feel.
Ronny Funnily, it reminds me of family gatherings, where me and my cousins would all gather together and take turns. Best childhood ever.
That intro was so nostalgic
Genesis David what about the original PlayStation 3 intro?

Yah its fucking loud!
Before i start my ps2 i always turn the volume down
It is? I play mine every few days.

I wish my ps3 still worked
The nostalgia is killing me! I played almost all games that are mentioned here. It was certainly the golden era of playstation and of gaming.
Day will Fall Golden Era of PlayStation but Snes - Genesis era is the golden era of gaming.
It certainly did. The amount of JRPG released at that time blew me away especially Chrono Trigger(still one of my fav). But PS2 really outdid themselves by that time, as said in the video, nobody really expected like this to happen from them and they revolutionize 3D games.
MackinShizzaveli #WeWasCavemen
Snes vs Genesis was dope, but it doesn’t compare to ps2 and GameCube era.

That was a pretty good game and I honestly dont know why people hate on it besides it being a gta clone
Too bad my disc only allows me to progress about 2 missions before it crashes
Played in both GameCube and ps2.
My heart's still hurt to remember that time I was begging to my parents to buy PS2 or even PS1 as Christmast Present, but instead they came home with a mini VCD Player for the TV in their room and a short pant and two pair of sock for me.

ps2 was the best because:
1) had great games
2) backwards compatible with ps1 games
3) had dvd player
4) same memory card and controllers slot as the ps1
5) decent price
It was the best because the hype built up with the PS1, the great games came after it was already a success because all the people that had a PS1 knew that the upgrade would be the PS2 even tho the hardware besides the DVD was pretty shit and pretty hard to program for.
Thats why ken Kutaragi got fired from Sony and the PS3 wasnt as successful as it should have been, his way of doing consoles was to use weird hard to code hardware that was superior/inferior/expensive compared to better/cheaper hardware available at the time.
They also broke way too often and were not as powerful as sony told you they would be.
wait wait, BACKWARD COMPATIBLE WITH PS1?
The good old days. I will never forget them.
Backwords compatibility was nothing new, the japanese mastersystem could play all games back to the sg-1000
Did you know that there is a code to replace ratchets wrench with a double bladed light saber?(Think of Darth Mauls light saber, except its purple.)

The ps2 version was honestly the shitty version it just looked so much better on gamecube. Yeah the ps2 version had some added content that was cool but the Wii version still ended up making the ps2 version irrelevant because it had the GameCube's better graphics but the extra stuff they added to the ps2 port

Holy Fuck , that ps2 intro just brought back memories
That was a nice conclusion you came to at the end there. It really was the real deal. I wish the same level of care and attention still went into most games today.
If you believe the quality and quantity of content in games hasn’t increased tenfold since the 90s, you’re in nostalgic denial.
There was much more diversity in the PS2/GameCube era, than there's ever been.
Theys a reason why many think of this as the greatest console to have ever been made and it hasn’t changed since
Agreed brother
1.Ps2
2.dreamcast
3. Switch
THESE GRAPHICS WHERE SO MUCH BETTER HOW I REMEMBER THEM
Jeet Sharma ya
remember when you played GTA:SA back in the day? it seamed amazing. then you buy the HD version for PS3/PS4. and its like. wtf?
it's not nostalgia and it's not false memory.
Bush Plays crt with hdmi
Bomb digity
Adolf Hitler not nostalgia, when the games were out I remember as a kid with my brother we'd be like man how could graphics get any better. When you have better things and have them taken it's a bigger deal if that makes sense hopefully u get what I'm saying it's weird to explain
- DVD player
- PS1 backwards compatibility
That made buying a PS2 at launch a no brainer. But next gen, I didn't give a damn about Blu-Ray (PS3) or HD-DVD (Xbox 360 add-on).
I used the Blu-Ray feature to convince my mom to get me a ps3 when I was but a wee lad
Dont forget the ps2 is a cd player as well
@@kingrb1394 my mom bought a ps3 and a blu-ray player😂
The PS2 era was the first time that 3D graphics were actually worth a damn.
You're both right But I said "era", and as awesome as the Dreamcast was, the _era_(or rather, Console Generation) belonged to the PS2.
well, it was only the second iteration of 3D as a non-gimmick/trick - so that would be precisely what you'd expect

Shoutout to all those who _still_ play on authentic PS2 hardware in 2018!
Bonus points to those who play on a CRT television. ;)
I'm not impoverished, lol. I just know what I want out of gaming.
Poe Ghost Speedrunners are probably majority that do that still in 2018
I own 2 PS2's and can play on a CRT tv.
Now that I think about it, I don’t remember when or where I got my ps2 lol.
You know somebody gave it to you but it feels like it just appeared
I dont remember how I got my first one...but I remember my brother buying me another one...like where the hell did it come from?!
I had to work for my ps2 and it took me an entire summer to earn $100 dollars so I could buy it from a thrift store.
Best christmas present ever... Although I got the switch for this xmas, but you know that feeling of waking up and not knowing what you got... And then opening a big box and BOOM! PS2!!!
The Last Ugandan Warrior me too and I still have it though
I got my PS2 in April, 2001 for $399 (yes, I got scalped). It still works to this day, and I've been playing it in the last few weeks to remind me of the glory days of gaming when $50 got you a full game and no "surprise mechanics" existed.
The ps2 will always be the greatest game console along side it’s older brother the PlayStation
ZX R-CADE the PS3 was good too but mostly the early models
and the ps4 is good too! Better than Xbox (I am talking about exclusives and the look of it)
Troll Mob okay, woah woah woah... lets not go too far into that topic
What about N64
*GENESIS DOES WHAT NINTENDON'T*
My top 5 ps2 Games? In order, I suppose:
Genji: Dawn of The Samurai
God of War 2
The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning
GTA: San Andreas
Resident Evil IV
Those games right there were practically my LIFE as a kid.
Wht about Tarzan
Turning on thw PS2 was the best thing to do as a kid. THE INTRO NOISES GOT ME SO HYPED!
I remember older cousins in my family having ps2 systems with no games....now i know why.
It played DVDs. The PS2 was cheaper than some DVD players and it also played CDs. To top it off, there was a wide variety of games that would interest almost anyone.
WOW
If it wasnt for the DVD feature i wouldn’t of had a ps2 its the only way i could convince my parents to get me one since we never had a dvd player at the time

zeezaa well now saves are just online
zeezaa I still have my memory cards from BOTH the PS1 and PS2!! AND I USE THEM WITH MY PS2!!!
Why 'was'? No no no gameranx, Why 'IS' the PS2 a big deal.
AbsolutelyNoLogic no he was right because it's not a big deal anymore now haha
_Fr0stb1te_ nah. Just cause it the OG doesn't mean it's still important today because it not.
It's still important today because it's the last good console.
0:02 oh that sweet, sweet sound

Lord Luke Lightbringer lucky you,i couldn't so i used go to the video game parlors to play it for many years, then i finally bought a used ps2 slim in 2010 when it was the end but still few games came out for it,then after a few years,i sold it to buy xbox 360,and after that ps4,now i have again bought a ps2 just to play smackdown hctp with my friends every weekend,i have all three consoles now,but ps2 is the best of all time.😍

Nothing wrong with the current one except for a severely painful progression system.
When DICE gets the new one in, it’s an easy 8/10
@Viktor Ceder - lmao theres far more wrong with it than it having a painful progression system...
The Freeman Initiative quite the substance less comment. But ok then
Viktor Ceder New Battlefront sucks compared to what it could be.
I called dibbs on it in mid-sentence and the announcement never came out.

my dad was a huge fan of the ps1 so he just automatically bought the ps2 when it came out for silent hill 2.
This comment deserves more Likes! I love your story!! ❤
@Melanie Jonas thank you! she gave me a daughter now too. I am so blessed!
Soldano999 ps2 was way more fun and I loved ps1 ps2 can play ps1 games it automatically wins .

Dave Rell indeed
This guy gets it. Tekken 5 and Soul Calibur 2 are amazing.
DBZ Budokai was on the Gamecube as well tbh.
Yeah, but my cousin got it for his PS2 and that was the fondest memory I have relating to the PS2. We may not have played any of the Metal Gears, or Shadow of the Colossus on it, but when I hear of a PS2, I remember staying up all night playing that on it.
Hell yeah bro, good memories.
Same bro me and my cousin use to go at it on budokai 1-3 all the time

Perhaps my favorite console of all time, but what I really love is how they actually shrank it and made it portable with the PSP...love that handheld so much for that reason it reminds me so much of the PS2, and although I really dont have much time to sit down somewhere and play the PS2 and ton of games I still own, I always have my PSP in my glove box just because Gran Turismo on it plays so much like it's PS2 counterpart, much like all of the PSP's line up for that matter.
I want to say my top 5 but I can't reply to that thread!

2.Ratchet and Clank

No particular order:
GTA: San Andreas
God of War 2
Kingdom Hearts 2
Burnout 3
Jak 3
Burnout 3 is so nostalgic.
I still have my ps2
I have mine too
@@AlexDaDermahurr same
Mmm thumbs up for that PS2 intro.
Paul Risk I just did a big shit on all the PlayStations I own cos they r rubbish
9:33
Fun fact: The oldest ps3 can play all of those games on the shelf, just can't run ps 4 games...
@@WinxAliNelCielo ? It has a ps2 SoC and a pS1 emulator, it totally can
All consoles should be forward compatible...

@@sunfade but anyways, it's quite arrogant to suggest that forward compatibility is a hard concept to grasp...
Saving a game without turning it off if you don’t have a memory card the hustle of Ps2 owners do remember 🎮
I had 2 of those so I had no problem.... Right now I can only find one though
I remember this
DOT. BLVCK Not our family, my Dad was onto it when the ps1 released along with the ps2, he bought a few for each..
Was too expensive for me so I literally kept my ps2 on for a month before my parents finally got a memory card lol. Ahh the memories
So glad you included sly cooper into the list of legends!
Playing the god of war series on ps2 were some of the best times of my life.....damn we grow old too fast😪
I still hate the fact the GOW series is PS only. I would love to be able to play them on PC.
Just get a ps. Stop whining about platforms when they're not even that expensive to get. Just dont get starbucks for a week and you'd have enough to get a console
Talha Rehman not everyone can afford buying two consoles man.
The Sly Cooper series is still some of my favorite games of all time.
Cody Clark 360 was waaaaay better then PS3, it barely outsold the 360.
“watch those wrist rockets”
“for the chancellor!”
“enemy has taken a command post”
The PS2 intro sound is so nostalgic. We used to visit our dad in the weekends, where we all sat up all night, playing!
Top 5 - Jak & Daxter, MGS2, SOCOM 2, Vice City, Medal of Honor Frontline. Oh... and PES!
SOCOM 2. Now that was my fucking game. I played it so much I knew every mission inside and out and unlocked every weapon. I miss it.
socom 2 online was the greatest game i ever played so fun and competitive i miss the lobbies and talking trash and clan wars
My favorite game was Devil may cry! Holy hell i loved that game! Every game of Devil may cry😍 i was 9 years old when my dad came home from work with a ps2 and Devil may cry! The memory of me playing and my dad watching me play, what a happy young boy i was! Good times 😎
Bjørn Erik Kvitvik I still play Devil May Cry 3 to this very day
Good dad 👌
Fluffy's Playground nice, I still play my psp
That intro hit my heart
My favorite part of the PS2 was turning it on with no CD or DVD inside and listening to the endless ocean sounds, used to lull me to sleep every night. On a side note, you mention that the xbox was best of the 3 at the time? Maybe spec wise, but the gamecube graphics outclassed PS2 and xbox EASILY.
its just like the king of all consoles no one can dethrone the ps2 i have so many great memories with this thing i can't even explain how much i love it, my favorite games were gta sa and midnight club

I´m playing knight of the temple 2. Such a great game :D
I still have my Playstation 2, and Playstation 1. I'm also still buying a lot of PS2 and PS1 games as well for them. I'm never getting rid of my PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2, and the games. Because I still have fun playing them.
Need for speed underground blew my mind, still will play it.
My top five ps2 games are Twisted Metal Black, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Midnight Club 3 dub edition, Medal Of Honor European Assault, and Ghost Recon Jungle Storm.
