    Video Notes:
    Thanks for letting me help with this video, it was a very informative one, and bringing the education to your audience with a helping of kindness is very much something you excel at!
    Your disclaimer prior to the sponsorship shows just how much integrity and care you have for your audience, and how wholesome and protective of a person you are, so I'll always affirm and back you on that. You say our support is "more than you deserve", which is a thought process I'd love for you to get past. You deserve all of your support, and even more. Fitness UA-cam and the world in general is a better place with your voice and advocacy a part of it, so please don't doubt yourself.
    Great video, time and time again! Thanks for everything you do bro.

    Long time watcher, first-time commenter (first UA-cam comment ever actually!). I've emerged from my lurker habitat because I just wanted to say that I admire your genuine effort to be a decent human being. There are so many annoying and pushy people on the line, trying to trick you into thinking/believing/buying certain stuff, that you are truly a breath of fresh air. Just wanted to express my gratitude and wish you the greatest of success. Maybe I'll come out of lurkerville more often :)

    You are so freaking awesome. Thank you for being so genuine and honest, always putting your subscriber’s best interest first even if it means turning down money from sponsorships, affiliates, etc, and cutting out all the bs surrounding the fitness industry so that your viewers are only getting the facts, tips/advice, and help we really need. I went to a trade school to become a personal trainer cuz I had a passion to help people, healthy body equals a happy mind n throughout my battle with major depressive disorder I’ve always searched for a way that I could hopefully help others going through the same battle. Unfortunately I found out after graduating that being a trainer has very little to do with helping people and really it’s just selling them sessions, as many as possible for as much as possible, even if they really can’t afford it. I learned in a short portion of the psych class how to use psychology to get clients to spend money even if they are hesitant and that includes manipulating them to spending money they really can’t afford to 😢 So I ended up with over $40,000 in student loans after interest and never trained one person cuz I didn’t want to be a salesperson. All that to say, thank you for providing information to the world for free and not worrying about making money. You’re a truly kindhearted person and we appreciate you 💕

    On an unrelated note: While I was completing a UA-cam bodyweight workout, I found myself thinking things like: Is the resistance even on the muscle we’re targeting here? Why are we burning out this muscle…just because it’s burning doesn’t mean it’s working. 🤣🤣

    I think that squat depth is really personalized. If you're doing ATG squats you won't be able to handle the same weight, and that can reduce the amount of gain you have, but you also won't activate the same muscles, so it's a balancing game. Generally I think people should squat at whatever depth they find comfortable and is giving them results, if they aren't getting results then change it up! Unless they're training for a comp, in which case, they should squat slightly lower than the required depth, just to ensure they can hit depth. (Although a lot of heavy squatters train slightly above the required depth, but most people, myself included aren't them)
    Like I think that the problem is people saying "Only squat ATG or it's worthless" or "only squat to 90 or it's worthless." when there's reason to do either of those things for different kinds of training. Just like there's reasons to do deadlifts from a platform and deadlifts with the bar raised. There are advantages to training different ranges of motion, or variations is even better.

    CQOTW: So we talk a lot about progressive overload and a certain volume per muscle as tools to help us build more muscle. What about maintenance? If I were happy with my muscle mass, how should I further manage volume and weight to maintain that mass and not increase it? Thanks!
    On a side note, I'd like to thank you for making all this content. You introduced me to Natacha Oceane, and my approach to fitness changed drastically. Also, I like to see you critiquing male athletes and fitness experts, as I feel like they tend to get away with click-baity and inaccurate content more often (or less publicly, or with less retaliation) than female content creators.

      Another thing! You are not wrong about the PhD bit at all! I'm a philosophy student and my fiance is a literature PhD. He constantly claims that I'm better informed and educated than him. And being a PhD doesn't make you an unquestionable authority on the topic.

    • @melissathelioma2890
      @melissathelioma2890 2 роки тому

      Renaissance periodization has a really nice (very comprehensive) article about training volume. They estimate as little as 6 working sets per muscle group per week is sufficient for maintenance. Otherwise, I don’t think your training should need adjusted much. I’d still try to slowly increase the weight for your working sets, maybe over a longer period of time. Without a calorie surplus, you’re not likely to increase mass.

    Hey, I've been seeing you talk much about professionals/ non-professionals concerning their qualifications as valid or not. I don't know if it is of your interest, but a video or a podcast discussion focusing on this topic would be of great help. Wondering if that’s normal and just part of it or if I can do something differently. I’ve only been working out with weights for a bit. Forearms seems to give out pretty quickly on those moves though. Im not locking my elbow out. Hopefully not a completely ridiculous question.

      Likely just means your forearms are a weak point that could use some extra training. What do your sets look like? Weight, reps and general tempo? One way to hit your side debts a but faster would be to not use any pause at the bottom. Lower in a controlled manner, but immediately rebound into the concentric portion so you have to overcome the momentum.

      If you have lifting straps, see if they help, then incorporate isolated forearm/grip work at the end of your workouts and see if you see any improvement. (Not a professional but I've struggled with forearm weakness after ECRB tear and radial tunnel syndrome and reluctantly adding straps to my program helped so much.)

    Would it be possible to gain a lot of muscle (like for example blogilates claims) in a short time if you had gained it before? I heard that you regain muscle faster than you gained it the first time due to muscle memory, but how fast is realistic?

    Comment question of the week maybe: I exercise at home using dumbbells. For my legs, my exercises includes squat variations, deadlift variations, lunge variations, and kickback…variations. • @melissathelioma2890
      @melissathelioma2890 2 роки тому +1

      I’d add in a hip thrust or glute bridge variation. That’s going to target your glute max, but you can’t isolate one particular area of the muscle if that makes sense.

      @@tashles In addition, the shape, especially around the area between your glutes and your hamstrings, of your muscles is almost entirely determined by genetics and body fat %. Keep doing what you're doing as it sounds like you're getting good results. Eventually the size at the bottom will come as well. If you want to improve the look, body fat stored in this area will often have an outsized aesthetic effect on the perceived size of the bottom part of your bum as more body fat will make this area look like it's less defined due to the fat stored in the crease between your hamstring and the bottom of your glute.

      @@TFNL Yep because if Ronnie puts on 20 lbs, then suddenly 5% body fat is a whole pound of difference. And Ronnie is using the best training and the best drugs, so he's gaining the maximum that he could gain, almost certainly. And it's nowhere near that amount. Certainly an athlete who is no completely focused on hypertrophy might be able to gain more, but certainly not ten times that amount.
