- You can now Homebrew your Nintendo 3DS and 2DS consoles using only an SD card and some free, downloaded software.
This gives you a full custom firmware hack so you can play all your games from an SD card as well as getting access to all the Homebrew features. Play DS and SDi games, GameBoy Advanced games and even a wide range of other consoles such as NES, SNES and more. And all from your game backup files on the SD card.

I bought a New 2DS XL (just before they ceased production) for the sole purpose of modding it. The hack is even easier now. I see you have a C64 on your desk. The Vice3DS emulator turns the 3DS/2DS into a very nice portable C64 with the 2nd screen being utilized for the interface and virtual keyboard.

i just checked my 3ds (old model), the battery drains faster but it's functional and also ready to be hacked. ill just buy a 64Go SD card and an adapter to plug it to my pc
i plan to download some ds games i miss so much, would make my day

It's really easy to format an SD card via Windows CMD using _diskpart_ to any format.
Yes. I made a video on it a while back, but I think a lot of people get put off by the command line. Partition Wizard just makes it a bit easier.

can u provide any mac alternatives? partition wizard doesn't run on mac. would also be cool if the written tutorial was as in-depth about needing python, formatting etc. but i have the new 3ds so maybe its not needed? it would be helpful to know whats needed for both or just the mset9, or maybe even just having s skaterhax section that goes over things
I don't use a Mac so don't know what's available. Try searching for a partition manager, or disk manager. The 3DS guide pages should take you through everything. I don't have access to a new 3DS so couldn't show that route.
great videa, i normally back up SD cards like the one for doing this hack, is there a specific way to copy this to another card ?? i tried a standard copy and it didnt work, thanks
If it's your original SD card I'd probably just use a new one to get more storage space. You should then be able to copy over save files if you need to keep your game progress. To copy the card you might need to use something like the Minitools Partition Wizard. It should let you copy at the partition level rather than just trying the files. To be honest though I haven't tried it.
What app can i install to play DS games?
I have created a DS folder in the SD root with come roms inside.
Since FBI is for 3Ds games(.cia) wich program can i use for the DS roms?

I don't see why not, as long as it works in your PC. Newer cards will let you have more storage space.

Hi, after completing the Godmode9 finaliser my sd card is not able to be read. Do you have any advice on how to fix this? My Nintendo nor my computer can read it and I’m unsure of how to proceed.
If the card is corrupted you'll need to get a new one and then follow the guide again from the start.
If you download a software like Rufus 4.0 you can probably reformat your drive and make it readable again. Make sure to format it as FAT32 though

32GB use FAT32 with 32KB cluster size. On the menu you can read 3DS as 3DS or 2DS. Choose the matching old/new and version.
If all this was done on a 32gb sd card and you want to upgrade to a 64gb card is it a case of just formatting it and copying the files across from the smaller card or does something else need to happen?
Copying all the files should be OK
I did try that and can see luma when the new card is inserted but none of the homebrew or games although all files are there. I followed your steps from finalise to get the homebrew and had to reload all the games. Oddly I can't see my f: drive since formatting the 64gb card to fat32 so not sure what's going on there.
hi, can i still play nds games with an R4 in my hacked 2ds/3ds? Does the R4 get damaged someway?
I honestly don't know. I haven't tried that combination. I suspect (but again don't know) that it will either work as normal or be ignored, but probably won't affect the R4 card. Again this is just a guess!

I really don't know. You'd need to check around online to see how to get your pokemon out. There might be some files you can copy over which this setup will let you do, but it's not a topic I've come across.

Hi, I have been having a problem with luma and have scoured the internet and found nothing. I have the latest checkpoint, home brew and luma however whenever I use cheats my games immediately crash. My 3ds is also fully updated. Do you have any suggestions?
To be honest I haven't used cheats much. I think they can be a bit hit and miss. Make sure you've got the lastest cheat files.
So i have a question! is the 32gigs micro sd card the largest capacity sd that we can use on a new nintendo 3ds xl? I want to do this but on a larger SD capacity, at least 60gb. Is it possible to do it with a 64gb micro sd card from the begging?
Yes, but you need to format it as FAT32 with 64KB cluster size. I do this in the video.

so I have all the firmware because the person before me modded it before me but they kept the sd card and factory reset it. soo I'm missing all the files that the 3ds needs how would I get those only and run backups?
You'll probably be best off re hacking the console to make sure you've got it set up with all the matching software and versions.

i downloaded python from the website but when i open the mset9 folder from the sd card, it says python 3 isn’t downloaded, am i doing something wrong?
Make sure you add the Python folder to your path variable - settings - search for path - edit system environment variables. Make sure you check out a video on how to update the settings.
is there a good way to convert a .3ds file to a .cia file, not sure where you got yours from
There are converter apps. Just do a search and they will pop up. I think you can also use the GodMode9 app on the 3DS to do it.

Can u do it without a pc as well?
The exploit I use in this video does need a PC. There are alternatives though which might not. Have a look on the guide page. You onyl need to PC for the initial exploit so if you can borrow a laptop or something to get it installed you'll be fine on Linux or Mac after that.
Is the hshop also in the universal updater or is there another way to get it?
I don't think it is. You'll need to visit the hshop website.

No. You should be able to just copy all the files and folders to the new card.

The exploit software is written in Python. When you run it it needs to have the Python interpreter installed to be able to work. It sort of happens in the background.

It won't hurt to update, but the hack does replace the firmware anyway with it's own up to date version.

I just realized I have to unscrew the 3ds and open it just to take the SD card out. I am a software person with severe motor fine coordinations issues I don't like to mess with hardware that isn't a desktop. Desktops have a lot of space to inside so I don't have to fear stabbing the motherboard. the 3ds is going to have everything in one crowded place. I will ask my grandma of anyone else to open it up for me on the weekend. Hopefully it won't be hard.

I would say definitely! You can buy it used and sell it for the same price if you don’t use it anymore

hey i need some help, i followed everything you did and when i got to the point of holding down the start button on booting up to enter god mode, it doesn't and goes straight to the home screen... please help
You need to check that you've got all the files in the correct place and the correct version of the hack downloaded for your console. Then start the process again. Hope it works next time.

Have a look at 3ds.hacks.guide/troubleshooting. That tends to cover most of the issues. Quite often it's a file not saved in the right folder.
My computer when I open the file, it’s giving me an error and saying it can’t find the 3DS folder
Did you initialise the SD card in the 3DS first. Make sure you run the exploit from the SD card not in the folder on your PC.

i found out, you must keep the 2 files: boot.3dsx and boot.firm on the root of the SD card for it to work

Make sure you've got Python installed and the path to the Python executable in your system Path. You could try running the terminal window as an administrator just in case there's a permission error. It's strange you got through the first steps though.

when I made the sd card fat32 my 3ds says it could not read the sd card and wont wont pop up on my pc anymore, please help
Use the Minitools Partition Wizardto recover the SD card. It needs to be formatted as FAT32 but set the cluster size to 32KB for up to 32GB cards and 64KB for bigger. If you can't get Partition Wizard to see the SD card you might need to replace it.

Check you've put all the files into the correct places and folders on the SD card. There isn;t much else to do. It should work if everything is set up correctly.

I haven't really played with the cheats. I think they can be a bit tricky to set up. You'll need to find a guide to show you how.

Try restarting the hack from scratch, including building up the SD card. You may have some things corrupted or missing. Also check out the guide page to see if it has this error covered.

Have you got your file extensions turned on. The .bat bit might be hidden.
I'm stuck at 23:36, my GodMode 9 is stuck booting so I can't perform the backups and other steps after that. Any ideas?
Also the bottom right corner of GodMode 9 says scriptrunner mode

You'll need to search around online. A good place to find things is the Internet Archive.
Can smn tell me where to install cia games?
You need to copy the cia file to the sd card and then use the fbi app to install it.
You can format a SD (or pendrive) on Windows in FAT32 using "format" on command line with /FS:FAT32 argument.

Yes. This will work for any 3DS or 2DS. With the new versions you just get better performance, especially in the emulators.
is 4gb sd card enough?
It should get you up and running but you won't have much (or any) space for games. I'd go for 32GB absolute minimum.

Does it play Golden Sun?
I don't know. You'd need to try it, but if it's a standard 3DS game I can't see why not.
@@BytesNBits Golden Sun 1 and 2 were GBA games. No emulator can play them AFAIK and if they can, your save can't be loaded, it says corrupted. That you haven't even heard of the title shows your passion.

Check the write protect switch on the side. If that's OK it might be formatted incorrectly.
It wont open godmode 9
Make sure you've copied all the files to the SD card correctly. If it's all set up OK it should work.

Is it for all your cia files? Try downloading them from a different source.

Your best bet is to go to the hacking guide and work through their troubleshooting info. There are a number of things that could be stopping it working.
Godmode9 wont open i get home screen
Same here. I'm holding start and powering it on but it only boots up the 3DS menu
@@xShockxValuex Follow shetix all 3ds video and download those files then follow the rest of his guide to install godmode9 (I used a mix of both started here then godmode9 didnt work so I also used shetix files and guide)
Nvm I deleted the config text file that sat inside the Luma folder and it worked

Just make sure you follow the steps very carefully checking where the files go and making sure the folder names are all correct and it should all piece together.

I'm not sure why you've had years of failed attempts to hack your console. Perhaps one of your previous attempts is blocking other software from installing. If you follow the video carefully it should work.

I'm not sure why you've had years of failed attempts to hack your console. Perhaps one of your previous attempts is blocking other software from installing. If you follow the video carefully it should work.
