It's easy if you lack a conscience. Many people are narcissists or antisocial. They just don't kill, but they do well in society and frequently work high positions because they don't care about others. (Can fire people with zero guilt, etc.)
It's a critical part of justice - every accused must be given fair representation, and an attorney's job is to argue their client's case to the best of their ability. This not only protects the innocent, but it ensures that guilty prisoners are not able to get out on appeal due to having had inadequate representation.
It’s a tough job but unfortunately someone has to do it. Unlike these high priced hired guns most defense attorneys can’t afford to pick and choose their clients. Ironically this high profile case will actually boast their credibility as hired Guns.
They're a necessary evil for a functioning society. Everyone is going to hate defense attorneys, but they are vital to maintaining a semblance of a justice system
Most murder cases are based on circumstantial evidence! Every defense attorney tries this out after the prosecution closes before the defense starts. The amount of cases based on eyewitness or DNA evidence is much smaller than people think.
They shouldn't be able to try cases just based on circumstantial evidence alone. Too many innocent people's lives have been ruined and sent away to prison for crimes they didn't do. Not saying he isn't guilty though, just saying they should need to have more evidence before they ruin someone's life.
Yes, biological evidence which contains DNA can be considered a type of physical evidence; DNA is circumstantial evidence, though, not direct evidence.
He may- but this motion was just standard operating procedure for any competent defense team. But make no mistake, even as one of their junior attorney’s drew it up last night they all knew that it was 100% going to be denied today. It’s more for getting all their ducks in a row and making a strong record for when the inevitable appeals process takes place down the road.
😆 it just means he thinks the prosecution hasn't presented a bad case. The defense hasn't presented their case yet. Intelligent people like to hear both sides of a story before they make a decision.
If he is found not guilty of murder, perhaps someone in prison could be persuaded to avenge true justice for Maggie and Paul. Eventually, he will be found guilty by the judge named Yahweh.
The lawyer doesn’t believe the statement he read. He’s just doing what he’s paid to do. The evidence is circumstantial but overwhelmingly connected and indicative of guilt.
How on earth did AM think he wouldn't be found guilty and go through this trial which is a sham as far as his statements and obvious whereabouts prove. Shame on you AM! You murdered your own wife and your own son with no good reason other than your own selfishness.
I love this Judge. He's almost directing the Jury towards the verdict. Great sense of humour. The doddering, confused defense lawyer is as as arrogant and Narcissistic as the murdaugh-er ⚖
But dang, at the end he said to take a break before they call the jury back in and I, if I'm correct, realized that the jury didn't hear any of this. Shoot.
How can a lawyer be this arrogant to think he could get away with this. I love this judge and the way he runs his court. He is there to uphold the law.
They already knew the motion would be denied. It's just standard procedure for preserving the record for a possible appeal. It's also pretty much standard for a judge to deny the motion because they generally want the jury to be able to decide whether they believe the evidence and because ptosecutors know there's no point in bringing a case with not enough evidence to trial
I think the circumstantial evidence is pretty damning to say the least. I also think his body language and tears aren't for the loss of his family but for himself. It says volumes to me. I don't see any remorse other than for himself. Thank GOD the Judge ruled the way he did.
Too many lies and inconsistencies behind his story that night for him to walk. It’s very simple if you’re innocent: I was doing XYZ and here’s where I was from this time to this time and got to the scene and did this and this and this, then agents pull your cell/car data which backs it all up. But when you hear Eeelick’s story it’s full of inconsistencies. The biggest and most damning one ofc being that he supposedly as “never at Moselle” when obviously he was- and right up to the murders...why lie about that if you’ve got nothing to hide? And why you ripping around the farm roads at 90mph at 11PM all of a sudden 🤔
“My client’s intentional deception of being at the scene of the crime moments before the murders means he is only extremely likely to be the killer; therefore, all charges must be dropped”
He really thought... Judge: well since you put it that way.. I demand he is immediately released from custody and all charges against him are to be dismissed! Mine as well give him the money from the life insurance policies right away as well. Have a good day sir.

Those words of his, "they did it so bad" or "I did it so bad" -- seems to imply he had some expectations in advance and what happened was much much worse and more painful for them (or painful for him to see). That statement sounds like he was more devastated at the horrific conditions of their deaths -- as opposed to something that could be considered "simple / quick" -- than the fact they were killed are gone forever.
Majority of murders are based upon circumstantial evidence-rarely "direct" evidence of seeing the killer pull the trigger. The nexus between Alex's prensence at Kennel is enough for jury to conclude a verdict.
They did an Excellent Job with the timeline, that was very important. The pinging of where the phone was was also important. If I were on the jury I would be saying he's guilty!
I love judge Newman. He's very fair and he's just awesome. He believes in a fair trial and that's what it's about. Not only that it's about Justice for Maggie and Paul isn't that what Alex would want(extreme sarcasm) smh
The trial is orderly and proceeding smoothly. Contrast this with the XXXtentacion trial which is the complete opposite. Endless sidebars, jurors sent home early and a judge who seems uninterested.
At this point I’ve seen and heard more than I will ever need to know. Except for one thing,,,,I want to see and hear this jury say guilty! Get rid of this AM for once and for all. He’s of no use to anyone.
It's just shocking to hear the defense stand up and admit Alex was there moments before they were killed and that he lied, saying he was taking a nap but the jury shouldn't conclude that he is responsible. Any juror should reasonable conclude that he is the killer. But somehow, he shouldn't be charged with murder?
@@peonypink9149 I've been thinking about this and wondering if they're making way for Alex to take the stand. A Hail Mary of sorts. He has to explain this now, from where I sit.
@@peonypink9149 Like if he were to take the stand and say he was afraid of the killers who were connected to a drug cartel or something outlandish like that, just to stir the pot in hopes a juror or two will buy it. Like the "Colunbian necktie" bs that OJ's team came up with...
Alex is a narcissist with no remorse for killing Maggie and Paul. Being a liar and a thief, drug addict, he then turned to murder. He went on to kill them because the boat case would have cost more money. He could also sell the Edisto home to get more money! They were in his way, I suppose. Money & Greed essentially made him kill them. I hope justice is served in this case.
Obvious to me that the person who shot paul was walking backwards after the first shot and tripped over the raised door sill. If the shooter was laying on his back as Paul leaned against the door, it would explain the angle of the shotgun for the second fatal shot. It is common for people engaged in shootings to fall while moving backwards while shooting. Many shooting instructors will teach to always move forward or sideways while shooting to avoid the fall.
He's a professional master manipulator he just left everyone on a wild goose chase, being a lawyer he figured he will get off because too many loop holes he created. My gut instinct tells me in all of these senseless heartbreaking heartless circumstances he is guilty beyond measure.

@@Seashed all sins are forgiven if repented.

This judge has a good poker face!! Love it
Good for the judge!
This judge is fair and competent, NO bs with this judge.
Today was the best...the whole car tracking with time line was spectacular.
The lawyer doesn’t believe the statement he read. He’s just doing what he’s paid to do. The evidence is circumstantial but overwhelmingly connected and indicative of guilt.
You should see the video of him in the Police car whereby three body language experts crucify him by exposing all his 'tells'.

Well done judge sir
This judge makes my blood boil. He is so arrogant it makes me sick.
He lawyer even had trouble choking out that request
The judge is the embodiment of wisdom! My respect, Sir!
Shoot.
He’s requesting a directed verdict. It is required to preserve the record. A jury cannot hear this request.
Birds of a feather flock togather
@@flenzy You’re correct. The jury cannot be present for directed verdict requests.
Why would you think the jury is in the room for this? That would immediately cause a musteial.
This judge has been nothing but fair and superb during the entire trial
I think the circumstantial evidence is pretty damning to say the least. I also think his body language and tears aren't for the loss of his family but for himself. It says volumes to me. I don't see any remorse other than for himself. Thank GOD the Judge ruled the way he did.
What tears.. 🤔 Pretending, not buying it..
@@srixongolfer3706 I saw his eyes fill up but again not for them.
@@JackieOgle Ok, my bad.. Stil as you say, no tears for nobody els but himself..
The tears are for the Jury.
I like this Judge immensely. He can't be bought and no fear. Run for a higher office and stay true to your principles. A gentleman for sure

You better hope you never find yourself the defendant in a murder trial with that thought process.

Absolutely right…… it’s as lame an attempt to explain away damning evidence as I’ve ever heard…..
Maybe he's been insisting on taking the stand and something like this is all they could come up with for a client who has already been proven to be liar and a thief and a con man. Like the "Colunbian necktie" bs that OJ's team came up with...
Wow the man is guilty go judge
You can tell Alex has ZERO athletic skill and can easily be tripped up. 100% plausible.
That was really good explanation. Thank you.
He could have shot him like Rifleman, from the hip.
I think the sight of Paul continuing to walk upright towards him was quite a shock and he tripped and fell or dropped and hastily fired his kill shot.
This prosecutor is top notch!
Just thought that needed to be mentioned!
