Judge Green Lights Alex Murdaugh's Confession to Roadside Shooting as Evidence

- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- Judge Clifton Newman originally rejected the prosecutor’s bid to show the jury Alex Murdaugh’s apparent confession to a Sept. 2021 roadside shooting murder-suicide plot after objections from the disgraced lawyer’s defense on Tuesday. The judge reversed his ruling after Murdaugh’s lawyer opened the door for the confession to be entered into evidence while cross-examining an investigator.

Mad respect for this judge!! He is clearly a judge that does his job unbiasedly and he is fair. We NEED more people like him in the judicial system and in this world in general.
Was thinking the same thing, he's been very quiet and fair whenever debauchery creeps in he gets rid of it
He’s Awesome 👏 👏👏👏
The defense is as annoying as their despicable client. Judge is so patient. We need more like him.
Beautifully said imo!!! I agree!
@@jcarroll135 I think the defense is actually happy and wanted that result. The roadside shooting make Alex very humane and fragile.
They’re doing everything they can. They don’t represent him. They represent his rights. That’s why they have proper representation
Agree
thats why they are called the defense..all defenses are annoying
This judge is a VERY wise man. I clearly noticed yesterday he said , “Not accepted AT THIS TIME. BUT who knows…”
He knows the law and is not going to be snowed!
I noticed that too! He foreshadowed it crazyyy
Alex breaks the record for highest price ever charged by drug dealer.
This is the comment i came for....the figures put forward works out to a habit of more than $14,000 per day....if he took 100 pills per day (arguably lethal and definitely inhibiting one's ability to function), that would still be $140 per pill - ridiculous! The defense needs to debunk this; it will show further dishonesty and eliminate his ability to use impairment as a means of reducing culpability.
edit: i misheard the $ amount, even $70 per tab is outrageous.
@@The_Tiffster i heard 50 but still. He got ripped out bad.
$50,000 a week for drugs?
I doubt it. He'd be dead taking that amount.
Of course he's going to pick a vice that can't be traced or audited.
After all, he's a lawyer. They know how to operate.
@@cinder7183 excellent point!
Just goes to show you that you should not talk about what you already requested the court to keep out of the trial.
Once you open that door you lose.
Bingo!
Right! 'Keep out anything that makes me look guilty'. duhh!
Isn’t that what happened in Johnny Depp’s trial?
@@catalinacurio Yes it was
The defense did it on purpose- to create doubt Cousin Eddy shot them.
Powerful stuff. The case for the defense is breaking down. Unbelievable watching it unravel!?!
So what is your gut feeling on what the outcome is going to be?
@@chriswillcox9210 Alex is GUILTY.....
But will he get proven guilty. He’s gotten away with things for so long.
I wasn't sure about this judge in the beginning, but now I really like him. He's very communicative and laid back.
This judge is & has been amazing through all of it
His confidence shows...

This is the BEST Judge. I’ve seen him in action before. Very intelligent!
Phenomenal judge, been watching him since the Samantha Josephson trial! 💯
I watched that one too! He's is a very fair and knowledgeable judge.
His son looks pretty relaxed back there... blows my mind
I know right.
Totally agree. From the first moment he looks almost like an outsider..his mom and brother having been slaughtered..not one tear, not even a sad face..family traits ?
Maybe on anxiety pill
It is mind blowing isn’t it? Weird bunch
Because guess who’s got all that cash missing secured in an offshore account? 🥕🏝️
I love this Judge.
I like this judge demeanor…he’s calm & fair.
There is no way Alex had a $55000 week drug habit, he would be dead
Drug's and money laundering
No addict spends 50,000 a week on drugs. Murdaugh selling drugs at 50,000 a week is a bit much too. Unless he's selling pounds of cocaine.
Could it be the "defense" is afraid that that $50K was a payment to kill Alec, by Alec ...and Eddie wasn't about to fulfill the "contract" ...he was just taking advantage of Murdaigh's desperation!
agreed. no way opiates add up to 50K a week. coke, yes, but not opiates.
That's so correct. You would be dead. Ain't no way 50k.
He was involved with drug smuggling and a weird jellyfish venture.
@@RockyNikolashin he liked to party with blow.
I just find it hard to believe that Alex was that addicted to drugs that he spent 50k per week and was still able to function with everyday activities for a number of years. I personally know people who have drug habits and they don’t function at all. The FBI needs to follow the money all of it didn’t go to drugs.
It's possible for those with means to need this much . I once had a doctor's order to give 100 mg of oxy. Checked it x2 with the provider. Pt was fine. Opiates suck
@@grahajas1096 they stick unless you need them for pain, these low self control unethical people make others lives suck.
Hookers & Coke aint cheap
Didn"t he say $100k per wk?
@@grahajas1096: these 'scripts are not written in units of mg. Also, that would obly be 5 20mg tablets per day, which is on the lower end prescribed amounts. Nice try though.
Come On Man 🙄 he was not spending $50,000.00 a week on drugs! The FBI needs to follow the $
Did I hear that right fifty THOUSAND a week on drugs? No fing way
Same...has to be a mispoken statement right?!
I thought he said $5000 a week, and I can hear and smell a bag of Cheetos being slowly opened from the back of a full classroom.
Looks like Alex got the defense team he deserves. Maybe they are used to judges in their good old boy club, but this judge is NOT having it.
Maybe there not too many decent options out there.
No... No he isn't.
I shake my head. Even before he begins to speak, the lead defense attorney looks like he's past his day.
Oh yeah he's done. For sure. I'd be terrified if I was in front of him for something serious. He needs the death penalty and hundreds of years in case it's abolished. He is mopping tje floor with the lawyers.
“Good old boy club”😂😂 you won comment of the year
To be overweight and popping all those pills” nah not buyin that Alex.
Clear bullet wound, fractured skull, brain bleed-show us the medical records
Alec appeared next day without even a bandaid
How to Step In It 101: Do what the defense did. Ouch.
I LOVE this judge!! He’s a little extra spicy today!
Personally, I think they should allow ALL the evidence during a trial. The jury needs to hear everything to come to a complete understanding of what went on.
The defense attorney is an embarrassment to any lawyers from his generation.
Or any and all other generations!
@@mangafq8 I think the defense is actually happy and wanted that result. The roadside shooting make Alex very humane and fragile.
@@hus390 SMDH
I love this judge he knows his stuff and not on the good old boys network
You would think the man had something better to do with the millions he stole than to spend $50,000 a week on drugs. I don't actually believe that. If he was addicted to the tune of $50,000 a week, how is he not sick as a dog without the drugs.
I think the whole drug issue is smoke and mirrors. That money is sitting in an off-shore account somewhere. The amount of money he was earning legally was significant, so what did he do with the millions he stole? There's so much more to uncover in this case, and more people at very high levels that need to be brought to justice. He didn't do all this by himself.. He doesn't strike me as a very smart guy tbh...
Although I already have my opinion about guilt in this case I can't say enough about how well this judge is handling this case. It is very complicated but he is listening intently and keeping ''order''. He is a fine example of what a judge should be.
The defense is grabbing at straws when trying to divert blame from Alex. No one spends over $50K a month on drugs and is alive to talk about it. Personally I don't know if Alex murdered his family by himself or if he paid someone else to do it. His wife and son in no way deserved losing their lives that day. I can't even imagine why Alex thought murdering them would be an option in solving his financial problems and then getting away with it. What a cold, heartless, narcissistic man!!
They said 50,000 per WEEK. I’m like you, even at 50G’s a month, he would be dead.
Alex killed his wife and son all by his lonesome.
Walls are closing in on Alec. He definitely needs to pay for what he did.
Yeah, Alex, give it up now. Just plead GUILTY and get on with it.
You tell 'em Judge.
I love this judge calm cool and collected especially with this annoying defense lawyer ..spit it out dude ..Your the one delaying court with your constant objections and talking like a broken record as you said you do ugh
AMs lawyer looks like he can down a lot of bourbon, I don’t understand how you can defend somebody like him with any sort of moral conscience. You can see your client is guilty.
@@studio107bgallery4 absolutely , that's what I thought too no morals
@Studio107b gallery Yes, and needing that bourbon made him so rude to that witness in the roadside shooting case!!
I love the judges smile, he sits back...
" Calm, cool and collected" just like Garfield waiting for the right time, like when your hungry to devour a large fish dinner with all the " fixin's " ;)
SLED Agent asked him via phone interview “is Buster in danger?” Answer “No.” Freudian slip….isn’t everyone supposed to believe an unknown murderer is still at large??? 🙄 AM also states he “wanted Eddie to shoot him for all he’s done” - Harpootlian quickly adds “your financial crimes you mean?” 🙄
Oh good catch!
And the lawyer says Alex bought a "burner phone" at Walmart. He should have said "prepaid", saying "burner" makes it sound nefarious. That lawyer is not very good.
Yes...I caught that very odd response too!!!
I simply do not understand why would two heavily armed gunman seek revenge by killing his son and wife but let him sleep peacefully in his couch and walk away? If I want to take revenge on someone I will make sure they know that I am doing this specifically just to hurt them. Besides why does Paul didn't have any defensive injury? It doesn't make sense. Didn't he want to protect himself from this crazy murderer?
There is no proof of two shooters. There were two firearms used giving the illusion of two shooters.
I don’t believe there was anyway that Alex was spending $50,000 a week on his own drug consumption. He must’ve been dealing
They need to ask "why he would have pulled out his DEAD son's cell phone, checked it was off.then set it down on his body and NOT USED IT , TO CALL 911. ????? He went into the house and got a gun instead ?????? Alex stutters and stammers everytime its brought up.
Continued admiration of this judge
Love this judge’s controlled, BUT obvious sarcasm directly aimed at the defense side😊
I love this judge!!!!🥰
I've never seen a trial where a judge gets so involved. I really like him. I think he's fair. He's very intelligent..I like his calm demeanor when attys lash out at each other.
How can you spend 50k per week on drugs if you're not selling the drugs?..he has an addiction to opiods. He'd be dead if he took 50k of opiods in a week..I dont believe he did..
Alex's confession of the roadside shooting was the smoking gun for me. If he hired Eddie to kill him so Buster could inherit his 10 million dollar life insurance, Alex would be dead and Buster wouldn't have to work another day in his life. Buster would also inherit his parents$ properties$ worth millions$. Alex had no intention of joining Maggie and Paul.
Agree...it's known anyway there is a trust fund already set up for Buster, he will never have to work a day in his life as it is. I don't think A intended to be killed and leave his son life insurance at all.
You’re wrong about Buster’s inheritance..he gets nothing from the properties..,that’s for sure, they are all confiscated.., the debt has priority..! It must be paid back… that’s the law..!as for Buster.., let’s hope he can do something practical with his life…other then brushing his fine red hair..never saw that kind of hair before…it’s lovely..!
The judge laughing at them saying, "in the end, it's my courtroom and what was done yesterday stands"!
This judge rocks! One of the best I have seen in action!
Thank GOD the judge allowed the roadside shooting testimony and the extensive financial theft bc the jury still won’t hear about the other “accidental” deaths surrounding this family. This man was still conducting corruption over phone calls from jail and of not locked up for life he will never stop. Never. They wouldn’t be the last deaths.
A person that consumed $50,000 of pills would be dead within the first week. If he was stocking up then where are the pills?
Secret underground bunker, where his clothes, shoes and missing weapon is.
So if he bought 500 oxy pills a month at $100 a piece ($50k), that comes out to 16 2/3 pills per day (in 30 day month)
Ppl with drug habits like this - 50k is easy - 90% of that money is just recycling the pills to someone else - kind of like, robbing Peter to pay Paul - most likely that’s what was going on - prob in constant drug debt
You’re absolutely right…! that Floyd guy.., that caused that stink for that cop..did just that..! he saw the fuzz coming after him..,swallowed the full amount he purchased at once,he would have died right there..without the cop knelling on him..everyone knew that…!
Forgot Jim Griffin SUGGESTED uncle Eddie’s name as a suspect. Yet at the same time he wants to keep out any reference to how uncle Eddie became involved.
Another of the many torpedos that is steady sinking Murdaugh’s ship. The fact that he hired someone to “shoot him”
Then wasted LE’s time with a fictitious sketch proves Murdaugh’s character.
Why doesn’t he set himself free & stop waisting everyone’s time & ADMIT to his horrific crimes against his wife & son
This judge is boss👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏾
if alex had tried to roll paul over and taken cell phone plus checked pulse of both victims he would have had some blood on his hands or shoes at very leadt. was that addressed?
I think it was, it was obvious A was lying.
The State established that he had no blood on him during interview and that he changed his clothes.
Exactly!
THANK YOU JUDGE
Why do lawyers use flowery words rather than just get to the point. Prosecutor does well with a direct approach.
Pills are ,,expensive , 30 Roxie's $30 a piece $900 some cost $100 a piece depending on strength. $100 x 30= $3,000. Still $50,000 is alot. I think he is lying about drug addiction.
Even if his tolerance required 10 oxycontin 80mg or morphine 100mg tablets a day and even if he was paying $200 each for the pills, it would still only total $14,000 a week and not to mention he would go into respiratory failure and die without question because tha is not a tolerance that a human could build up to without certain death. Furthermore, if you've got that kind of money, you would buy pills by the whole script, as in he whole bottle, for which you would get them for a much better price. Even the best opiates are still averaging around $1.00 per milligram on the streets, in low level purchases of 1 to 20 pills at a time. No way he would be paying that rate in bulk. Period. And if he was using synthetic man/underground lab made opiates, they'd be a lot cheaper than that!
Judge Newman is amazing
This is his multi million dollar defense team. Feared and revered for decades in the state of SC. They’ve had the good ole boy system in their favor all along. Here it comes to a spectacular end. Karma is real 🙌🏻
I heard the dogs weren't allowed in the houses because of allergies so how did the dogs trip the housekeeper??
Outside on the steps!
Different house and different dog
Well..! you already know that answer,,why do you think the poor woman was knocked unconscious.. unable to communicate up to her death…we all know what happened there.!
I admire this judge…he knows what he’s doing and he’s deftly controlling the arrogant defense attorney. He’s providing a fair trial in a very complicated contentious situation.
I am loving this judge.
To use a phrase my mom use to tell me “The defense is too smart for their own britches”.
YES like the judge says if you have objected to everything then stop bringing it up... "so but then uh and again " lol
Maggie's sister really put the knife in her husband's Back. She was slick in her answers.
How? Please explain..
Yes, I don’t see her as being slick or sticking a knife in anyone. AM is the only one who is sticking anything to anyone in this case!
Well the sister thought Maggie was going to visit her dying FIL, not meet up with Alex at Moselle to her ultimate demise.
And you wonder why Washington DC is so screwed up.........
7:16 the defense really tryna push it 😂
WE HAVE A RULINGGG
This judge is way too patient with counsel to the detriment of the jury, which ultimately favors the defense unless the jury understands all the time in the assembly room is primarily the defense's fault as they try to suppress relevant evidence.
Imagine the nerve of the attorney to say he felt the judge's ruling was appropriate! His opinion.of the judge's ruling is inconsequential as well as patronizing and condescending.
I caught that too. The judge had a little smile while the attorney said that. I also noticed the judge gave the defense a little bit back when they had yet another exception to an exception haha.
No way he was spending 50k a week on drugs
Exactly. One human couldn’t handle even a quarter of that per week. I wonder if the defense is trying to paint that picture to cover up where his money was actually going.
This judge is the most knowledgeable judge I have ever heard. The best!!!!!
The surviving son takes after his Dad. Looks like jail bait.
He murdered Stephen Smith.
if he’s got a brain.., it will straighten him out..,keeping him from following that route..!
No one on 🌎 could do 50k a month in opioids and still be breathing.
That arrogant, entitled criminal sitting there knowing he is guilty, wasting millions in taxpayer dollars on this trial. ELEK makes me sick.
Nobody in the world an spend a quarter of 50 thousand dollars on drugs!
Not weekly anyway.
Get rid of Clarence and put Judge Newman in that seat. Alex shoulda hired Darell Brooks
His Lawyers are not very good!
I can't believe the defence made that big of a mistake! Goes to show that these "best in the district" bulldog lawyers may have been relying on their contacts not their skills all these years
Wow. This judge is so impressive.
I had a hefty opiate addiction after my pain management said I was too young for the prescriptions I was on, and dropped me cold turkey during the "opioid epidemic " went down from 20mg oxycodone 7.5x a day. 50 grand a week seems impossible imo, also why couldn't he befriend a pain Dr or help one, seems kinda daft
I wonder if Alec’s son thinks he murdered his mother and brother 🫣😞 poor poor kid

Alex is never going to see the light of day. Why does he want to put his only living son and family through all of these details?
$50,000 a week on drxgs!? Even if he was spending $50 a p*ll, that’s 1,000 p*lls a week…he was either getting ripped off or they’re using that as an excuse for missing money, because obviously there’s no paper/money trail for buying drxgs.
All his generational influence, contacts and being a lawyer himself didn't help in choosing an effective defense.
Tbh there is no effective defense. Alex intentionally and with premeditation shot and killed his wife and son.

$50,000 a week drug habit! Something is fishy about that. Could AM been involved in money laundering, and drug smuggling and it got out of control?
I just rewatched the judges ruling letting this in from the end of court yesterday. The reactions of the defendant and his attorneys were VERY interesting! At this point I really think the defense is intentionally making “mistakes” to give him grounds for an a appeal. He has a more than competent team and they are making rookie mistakes!
Is it possible to have a brain bleed , fractured skull etc etc and still be able to make a phone call?
Money is truly the root of all evil. He dug himself deeper and deeper.
His son sitting far left end of the bench is looking like he is entitled

If AM was spending $50,000 per week on drug, then “Little Detective “ was not very good.
Why wouldn't they? Why withhold information that could help or change the outcome of a case.
Neither do I think Eddie was even involved with the murders I think AM would try to blame Eddie as he has everyone
