      Much of what this man says is simply not true. After China gained economic independence from European imperialism they fought a 20 year civil war between communists and nationalists. When a country gains its independence, it struggles at its beginning. It is incredibly difficult to shift from being a colonial country to an independent one. Just look the United States history. We were incredible weak after we became independent and were still economically dependent on Britain. We even had our capital burned down by the British in the war of 1812. America has been independent for over 200 years so it’s had far more time to develop. Much of Africa only found its freedom in the 60s and 70s.

    • @manateedictatorgod8028
      @manateedictatorgod8028 4 роки тому +80

      @@KshipsinKchups because of geopolitical instability. African countries only gained there independence around 50 years ago. It took the United States 150 years since its independence to gain international prominence. African countries were created with European made borders that give no concern to actual culture and religion of the people inside a country. This causes a country to be filled with groups of people that despise each other. This can lead to civil wars which further drain a country’s resources (e.g. Sudan). Many African countries have a lingering power vacuum because of how recent European independence was.
      Regarding the Chinese guys point about European infrastructure, most of that was built to export natural resources out of Africa. It is much different from Europe and America’s infrastructure which is built to sustain a booming economy that is run by its own country. African infrastructure built by Europeans was built to export rubber, precious metals, Cocoa, and oil. For that country to reconfigure that infrastructure takes lots of money, which African countries are low on because of their recent independence and civil strife

      @venomspeak No. It's a strange kind of love. If he truly hates Africans, he wont even tell them what they are doing wrong and just keep letting them do it.
      Its a tough kind of love that makes you resent him, but at the end of the day, spending all your monthly wage on partying and then end up borrowing with no savings is bad for you. And he's nagging them until they listen.
      Not the Disney kind of love, but love is love. And this is a typical 'oldschool' asian parent love.

    • @Mustang_G
      @Mustang_G 4 роки тому +428

      @venomspeak wtf are you talking about? This is exactly how asian parents be talking to their kids. It's awkward and asian kids will resent their parents at some point because of this. I'm willing to bet you don't have asian parents or even any asian friends for you to be able to relate to this.
      You seem to have this intense negative energy and hatred all from this one video alone. How the hell is this imperialistic or the same thing during slavery?
      You comparing a chinese man nagging his workers about being lazy and spending all their hard earned cash as he works alongside them as the same as slavery?
      And who says parents/employers don't give tough love to grown men? Man, you must be extremely sheltered.

      @venomspeak So its the Europeans fault that the small infrastructure they left in the colonial states of African countries goes to waste? And its the Chinese Corporations fault, that the African Governments are by far most of the corruptest Governments existing on this planet? And that's something I tell you, because in the end nearly all Governments on this planet are corrupt.
      Yeah, there was extortion and colonialism, and I am sorry to say that, but yeah, there is shitty Government, lack of Interest in knowledge, lack of self awareness, lack of trying to get a better life in Africa. Not all people in Africa are like that, its with Asia the Continent with the most Diversity, but a lot of countries and people in Africa are like that. China made a lot of deals and contracts in Africa, is it mostly in favor of Chinese Corporations? Should be, nobody does things just for altruistic reasons in business relations. But its light years away from the Colonialism of the last couple of centuries, that's not just what I am saying, its been said by many many Africans. So I don't get your sentiment of mixing together Communism, Disney, anti-capitalist and so forth and on.

Our continent is one of, if not the richest when it comes to natural resources, our climates are great for agriculture, specially in the center and southern parts, after colonialism we had everything to prosper but instead we went backwards. Instead, it was all wasted for nothing. In other words Africans were bent over by all these foreign nations who had their way and the Africans learned nothing from the experience. He's disgusted that all his workers were so lazy, unreliable and were all thieves which explained why the nation or even most of the entire continent was unable to develop. Of course, the Chinese are currently whipping them in shape, not just to benefit them in the future but also for the benefit of Africans as they're now more developed than they ever were in their entire history. Look I’m a Chinese-American reasonably proud of Chinese civilization. And yes, cultural attitudes and priorities will affect a people’s development.
      But the two scenarios are pretty different. China, like Europe & others was able to develop agriculture (rice) & civilization a long time ago. Other places with harsher environments couldn’t and lagged behind technologically. China was an ancient civilization that had specific parts (Shanghai, HK) taken by western colonizers. Many African communities were conquered and enslaved by the west before they had developed much themselves or cohered into nation states. And decolonization wasn’t exactly a “set you up for success” process around the world. In most colonies, the Europeans said “peace out” and left behind huge messes of governance, ethnic conflict, & poorly drawn borders.

      @ll The continent of Africa is not neglectful. It is just in a geopolitical situation that is not ideal because of their recent independence from European powers. When America first won its independence it was economically reliant on Britain and militarily weak.

    Ironically this actually reflects how close this man feels to the africans he’s speaking to. This is how Chinese family members speak to each other. For some reason, speaking Chinese makes people brutally honest. They will tell you exactly how much fatter you are than the last time they saw you. If they think you’re failing at life, they will let you know immediately. He’s not lecturing them in order to keep them down or say they are inferior, he’s lecturing them with the hope that they will do better and reach their potential. This is how Chinese parenting works.
    Edit: I’m seeing from the responses that I’ve overgeneralized and attributed a very common trait to the chinese language. The main point stands that this does not need to be seen as a form of suppression but as a form of encouragement. If your bad situation is a reault of your own bad choices, the. You can teverse your situation by making good choices.

      I find that really fascinating. I have heard things to that affect about languages like Chinese and Arabic, as compared to Western European languages. In the case of Arabic, apparently for example, it makes all the difference in how the Quran sounds. Supposedly it's a lot more poetic in the original Arabic. Also, to Western speakers, Arabic may sound very angry, loud, and guttural but that is just how the language is. Chinese is a mystery to me for the most part but I'm not surprised what you are saying

    • @jasonprice800
      @jasonprice800 4 роки тому +34

      Christopher Moltisanti I don’t think it has anything to do with the language. My sister is Korean. She was brought to America when she was 3 weeks old. She’s was raised by a white mother and father. Never knew life in Korea. Yet she is the exact same way. She’s 46. While she might not be as brutally honest as this guy is, the attitude that brings about that brutal honesty is. If you talk to her about your problems, her attitude is one of, “why tf are talking about your problems to me, instead of actually doing something to solve them?” Then she proceeds to tell you exactly how you fix them. In her mind, talking about it takes the same amount of effort as doing something about it. And the only thing to do, is to do it, or not to do it. I was raised in the same house by the same parents (I’m white), and that is no where near my approach. for some time it came across to me as unsympathetic and harsh, but my sister is a good Christian woman who actually talks the talk, and walks the walk. Nothing fake about her. She’s all in and she is a great person. I figured out that as harsh as it may seem, everything she says is exactly what you need to hear. And it comes from a place of love, and a sincere desire to see you do good and be the best you can be. She would never put effort into hurting anyone feelings, but she cares enough to not shy away from it, if what you need to hear is going to hurt your feelings. It’s almost like talking to Spock. She just has a much different logic than anyone else I know. I know that was long winded, sorry. But I think that just may be a trait common to Assertive Asian people. Regardless of what language they speak.

Now, that they were turned into the factory of the world by the West they dare to look down on others. They are just trying to be mean here so don't take it by heart, yes, Africa has some problems but what Africa needs is empathy and to be lifted up and some things weren't even your fault just circumstances, that's just how the Chinese treat others that what they considered beneath them even Westerners would experience the same experience with the Chinese if China's economy continues to grow.

He said they brought tractors and other equipment....but the people in Somalia seemed to have no interest in using this equipment or changing anything they were already doing. He said that by the time he went back to Iraq, he felt completely disgusted with Somalia and its people, and said the project was a waste of time and money.

Is it possible this happened, let's say, in the 1950s, 1960s or early 1970s? But you see people who don’t work at all during the day clubbing it up all night long, 7 days a week, and you just know a lot of them are getting the cash to do so from some gullible Mzungu like I was. There are some impressive developments happening in some places, but as a whole compared to the amount of money that is poured into Africa from abroad and the amount of resources below the ground, it’s really shameful the lack of progress and outright decay in technology and infrastructure. I'm a black South African and I agree with this man. We haven't learned anything from apartheid and how things were done instead we let the whole country rot.
    My mom who lived during the apartheid era even said that times were better back then than they are today. Our people keep on making excuses, but take very little action to change their situations. My mom is a teacher and plenty of her students are without parents, because their parents are out drinking the social grant money they receive monthly.
    The sad part is black people will often try to bring down other black people when they are trying to be successful. My aunt has a small farm and her neighbors complained to her saying that she's using their drinking water for her farm. She had collect water from a dam because of their complaints. Her neighbor even hired a witch doctor to have her killed. In the rural community where my aunt's farm is the people were given tractors by the government to farm. What did they do? They let them sit and did absolutely nothing. The tractors had to be collected.
    I've lived with white people for most of my life and let me tell I've learned plenty. They've treated me fairly and we got along quite well. I've never felt more safe and the like the fact that everyone minds their own business. I'm living in a black community and we've had our car broken into. I've been robbed recently by a person of colour.
    So much change is needed in our African countries. People need to wake up and stop blaming colonialism. Most of our leaders are greedy, incompetent, demagogues.
    I'm not trying to shame black people, but we can't continue to act oblivious to what's going on. There needs to come a point where you take accountability.

    As a Chinese person, I can tell you how open-hearted this man is towards his Black subordinate! Chinese people are generally reserved and don't usually criticize so directly unless they consider you a true friend, even as close as a brother.
    As for his criticism of the country, it shocked me even more. We typically criticize countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany vigorously because we know that such criticism won't hurt the pride of their people. However, we tend to avoid criticizing some of the less developed countries because we ourselves have been in a similar situation of being underdeveloped and poor. We know what that feels like.
    But this man courageously brought up this point with his Black colleague, and it wasn't insincere flattery. He must genuinely love the Democratic Republic of the Congo to do this. I could see in his tone and expression the way my elementary school teacher used to complain about me, "Pity the unfortunate, but also anger at their passivity."
    The pained expression on his Black colleague's face also saddens me. Sigh...

      A great leap forward for India would be a respect of property rights... I have heard from an ex-patriot Indian that rental tenants cannot be evicted if they don't pay rent for their homes. This ultimately will lead to a reluctance of those with capital to invest in housing... hence the benefit of property rights.

    I feel this dude's pain. I'm an American, 28, and I got berated by an Australian electrical-engineering tech consultant in his 40's at the factory I work at in town. I'm just a lowly electrical technician and I saw this guy walking around everywhere and studying everything on all the machines. Suspicious but not uncommon for such things to occur. So I struck up a conversation with this mate and we talked for an hour and a half. We had a lot in common political wise, as we were both very conservative, and then he gave me this long brutal diatribe about how Americans were uncultured. What he was talking about was how we Americans didn't get out of our country much, had a lack of understanding of how civilized other countries were, for example, he said that someone asked him if Australians even had cars, and then he talked about how brash and how we had cowboy mentality in dangerous situations, how we got people hurt unnecessarily in dangerous situations militarily and had to be bailed out by other countries. I sit through 5 minutes of this berating and it was rough. Mark could see it was getting to me but kept going until he was finished. That was rough to sit through. I didn't take it personally and Mark thanked me listening and told me how our hearts were in the right place, even if our minds were not of the right mentality and maturity to be dealing with the others in our world. Its hard to take criticism from others, especially if they tell you things you don't want to hear, but you have to understand that you yourself can become blind to your own mistakes. Especially if you've been making those mistakes your whole life.
