You should do a “tree/shrub” in a pot video submission for your series on our gardens. Also a Japanese Maple collection one. Someone here said they have over 200! I’d looove to see that!
Hi! I’m a fan of Japanese maples and I have a collection which can be like 45 maples, less or more depending how much I want to add and change in my limited space. I know here in UA-cam someone called “Maple Nutz” who have more than 400 cultivars and he posted here each variety. Take a look over him.
I have a Christmas tree in a pot. I bought it three years ago from my supermarket. It was two feet then and just over four now. It has just pushed out small purple cones. It’s gorgeous. It comes onto the patio for winter for me to decorate.
I love this idea! If we ever screen in our porch I might be taking your wonderful idea (its far too windy to decorate something unprotected here). I always cringe when we cut down our tree, I'd much rather have a live tree that will keep on growing! 💚
@C NB I live in the uk and our weather is unpredictable. It has blown over a couple of times so I must repot this yr. When I purchased the tree it did come in a pot with roots.
Laura, with those red tulips coming up every year, despite their uplifting, the universe is telling you to embrace that small pop of red! Loved this video, as I am getting ready to pot up a Japanese maple.
Hello Laura and Family, But WHO is Douglas lol!!!! Such a beautiful cat. THANK YOU for helping me throughout the past 7/8 years. Iv watched you everyday for all that time and thumbed up every video befor even watching but love the content you put out. You have no idea how much you have helped me especially when iv suffered with my anxiety. A massive hug from me x x
Yes Laura, LIFE. 😂 My Christmas tree is still sitting in it's stand on the back deck! I'm glad I'm not the only one who still has a Christmas tree sitting outside in may. I thought I saw some birds making a nest. I need to get it checked over thoroughly before I remove it from the back there. LIFE.
What a pretty planting of the tree! It looks great adding a splash of color and height in that corner. Those poor determined red tulips, in a battle with Laura to survive. ( I think the look gorgeous…shhhh, don’t tell Laura!)
One of the best aspects about this channel is its honesty. It may seem strange, but I really enjoy it when Laura shows an overgrown shrub that hasn't been pruned in forever because at first I'm inclined to think, "How could they let it get like that?" Then I have to step back and say, "That's life. Not everything can be done even if your job is gardening for UA-cam." Thank you Laura and Aaron for keeping it real. I'm certain it's the main reason why I keep coming back to this channel.
I have a Japanese Maple in a container on my deck for about 10 years and it keeps doing well. It's tipped over from wind a few times so now I have it tied to the deck railing. I'm a zone 6b so we do get snow and cold. I'm thinking I might start looking this year to take it out of the container and put it in the ground. But it has added such great interest and color on our deck!
Laura, your plant passion just oozes throughout this entire video. You have so much knowledge to share with us - thank you. Your tree & flower selection is gorgeous! I look forward to your daily videos and weekly highlights in anticipation of what's in store. So Much Fun!
Good Morning!!🌞😊🌷I am so happy to see a Japanese Maple back in that pot!! I like that Heuchera! That planting is gorgeous!! Great tips on growing trees in pots, much appreciated - thank you! 🥰🌳💚🌳💚
I love Japanese maples so much! I never met one I didn’t like! It looks so good with the contrasting colors of the plants you have put underneath it! Hope we’ll get lots of glimpses of this container all through the coming months!💚💚💚
Oh my gosh! The amount of info you provided in this video is super helpful. I always look for the hints & tricks I can takeaway & this video was packed full of useful, helpful info. Thank you
Well, my Christmas tree is gone; but, the Christmas Garland in the front porch is still there because a small bird decided to nest on it and I don't have the heart to mess with it. Good info on potting trees in Containers.🌾
My husband bought a small Japanese maple last fall and we potted it up but I wanted to pot it up in a bigger pot and you have given me the information I needed to get it done . We have a deck in the back that needs something a little tall so this video was perfect thank you . We all have things that we don’t want anyone to see in our gardens , it’s life at my age I don’t find the need to explain myself , lol , have a wonderful day everyone 🌸🪴🌺🪴🌻
Benjamin has the cutest face ever! Never wanted to live vicariously through anybody before but Laura, I just love your whole life. ❤ thank you for sharing!
Thank you for being so real and keeping the Christmas tree in the pot. I am sure there are lots of us who are still dealing with overdue projects. My husband told me the other day that he hates it when I leave my tools out. However I told him that I leave the tools by the area where I need to do a project and then it reminds me to do it LOL🥰
Just beautiful, I want those heuchera's, I love them! And white blooms too, wow. I just made a comment to my hubby last night, we're working on putting in a new koi pond and the heuchera's I planted last yr are blooming! What! The hummers will love the early blooms. Thank you for sharing these pretty plants. Much love ❤❤ StL Missouri 6a.
I love how you’re not afraid to be you and show how even through all your planting, even YOU can forget to take down a Christmas tree. Or when you show your failed ventures. It helps us know that it’s ok and to not always be worried about the fails in gardening. Thank you 😊🌺 ALSO: Benjamin melts my heart every time he speaks! “Yea, I was going to do a video with you.” What a little gentleman and loving soul. Ugh I miss little kids. Mine are teenagers now. 😢
Counter sinking! Brilliant. I learn so much from your videos Laura. I so appreciate it when you explain your choices regarding color, foliage, and texture when considering plant placement. My favorite aha moment was when you shared what you learned about color from your mother: red, yellow, blue & green in a flower bed. I could never figure out what I didn’t like about my plant combinations until you talked about color. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Such a gift you have!
Laura love your honesty! We all have our “Christmas trees in a pot” projects lol. Love how u potted a Japanese maple. I have a similar variety. I feel inspired
I love how that corner looks with the Japanese maple. Maybe this one will last many more years. The other plants look pretty too, and definitely complete the look.
You are a wealth of information. Since watching your videos, I can go to the greenhouse and recognize the name of plants and how to use them. Thank you for what you and your family do! And the Japanese Maple is beautiful.
I absolutely adore you guys, I love everything that you do and I cherish that you share your family too. Now, all that said the fact that red tulips grow every year makes me smile so big and I mischievously imagine Aaron popping them in the garden. I adore red in our garden, but I totally understand Laura is particular about her color scheme. 😁
The Japanese Maple is my favourite tree, there are so many different leaf shapes and colours, ours are in Autumn tones at the moment, I just love them.
Just realised the time and thought oh there will be a gardern answer video for today I haven't seen. Then I got more excited when I realised there was another video on highlights channel. 😅 gardern answer is so addictive lol xxx
I FEEL COMPLETE & ACCOMPLISHED! Laura, we get so attached to your garden like it's our own! Been wanting the Acer Japanese Blood good tree replaced since the previous one came out. The perfect color, texture, etc. When something is perfect, you just have to repeat it!
I love the idea of a tree being a temporary plant! What a great idea! I have such a small yard. Trees are usually thought of as being so permanent. It's nice to think about enjoying different trees over time.
I was so glad to find out the name of what I only knew the common name of, lambiastrim. The common name I knew it was was, Yellow Arch Angel. I always learn something with every video! Thank you Laura 🌿
Lol Laura, my oldest daughter still has her Christmas 🎄 tree in her living room up!! I told that it's not just a Christmas tree. But a valentine's, St Patrick's day, Easter, and soon 4th of July tree! Lol. Hahaha, her response is "don't be judgey" lol.
I love how the editor of the video left in how you tried the large grey leafed plants first and then changed your mind. It’s proof for everyone that sometimes you just need to see it put together before you decide what the best choice of plants are.
Thank goodness for Laura. I had literally just come in from trying to sort my jungle of a garden , deflated because I had a Christmas tree 🎄 still in a pot! I put on Laura for some uplifting inspiration and yippee I’m in good company if Laura still has a Christmas tree in a pot. Thank you I now have renewed energy to continue xxxxxx much love and gratitude xxxx
I’ve left my Christmas tree outside for months as well, specifically for the birds. And now I’m headed to the garden center for a new pot and a Japanese Maple. 😉
Good morning, Laura☕️. I love the 🌳 in a pot look. In another area, you can cut the bottom off of the pot and let it grown into the ground. Saw it on Bunny Guinness. Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈
Just planted a Bloodgood into a container and it’s always so nice that I can find this info years later. What a library you’ve created. To keep these doing well beyond a few years, it seems we have to “root prune” them which one can find info on from other creators who specialize in maples. For instance s visual learners, UA-cam and its creators are awesome.
Best way to spend my lunch break...Watching a Garden Answer video! I planted a snippet lime weigela in a container this spring. I'm excited to see how it goes and when I will put it in the landscape!
Your Benjamin is so sweet! The maple tree and companion plants look wonderful in the planter. I enjoy watching all of your and Aaron’s videos. You’re such great teachers. I reference your videos when I see a plant or tree that I am interested in planting, as you provide such good, useful information. I know if I follow your instructions, I will greatly increase my chance for success! Thank you both!
"Because LIFE!!" made me smile! I love Japanese maples!! I bet it looks beautiful from inside the sunporch as well. Can't wait to see this area after the clematis blooms. Thank you for showing the sweet woodruff as I was unfamiliar with this plant. And my children are always happy to see the kitties.
That's a beautiful tree! I have a few red Japanese maples in the ground, and I love them. There is a particular kind of Japanese maple that has green leaves, but in the winter, it's branches turn red. It's so unique to see the red branches in the dreary winter. We have two off those. They are bullet proof! No pests and handle heat, cold, drought, and wet. Our weather has been wild the last 5ish years. It handles it all.
Wow to see that Christmas tree go and see a beautiful Japanese Maple take it's place and the other plants... just beautiful Ms Laura. Can't wait to see what you do in the Hartley. Have a blessed day.
Great video. Love sweet Benjamin who came out to help Mama with her video❤️. The Japanese maple is lovely. I can't wait to see where you do place the angel wings, I think they are very interesting. Hugs from N.C ..❤️
I planted a dwarf Alberta spruce in a container last year, with no clue what I was doing! Lol! Then here comes Laura with her valuable wisdom that I can utilize to give my tree her best life! You are so full of useful tips…like planting a plant in its pot so it doesn’t receive as much water as others members of the pot may need! This year I’ve planted calabrachoa in the container along with a sweet potato vine and lantana, and wondered about that calabrachoa with its need to dry out between waterings…what a GREAT idea! Thank you Laura, for teaching this old dog new tricks! Happy gardening folks!
Hey Laura, I really appreciated you bringing out a variety of plants. It is no secret you like what you like , but thank you for sharing different choices that could work in this condition. Lol! Red tulips 🌷 ♥. Such a wealth of knowledge and experience for us.
No judgment here! I still have a pot of Christmas boughs that I will probably dismantle this weekend, lol. I love how exuberant you are in these videos. I also enjoy seeing the cats do what cats do and you just take it all in stride. And Benjamin is adorable, what a cute little helper.
This video just brings me joy! The first video I watched of yours was you planting your last Japanese maple in this same place!😊 Since then I am thankful for all I've learned. Thank you!
Yes! I just bought a small Japanese Maple sapling with the intent on potting it that was inspired by the first Japanese Maple tree you had in that pot! I watched that video too but am looking for a good container. Thanks for the new updated video! And LOVE the floral combination!
Laura the container looks so beautiful and perfect backdrop to your seating area. Thanks so much for all your advice and tips.. you are amazing and I love watching your videos ❤️
I got an Angel Wings last fall. It’s rated zone 8, and since I’m in pnw zone 8, I’d planned on putting it in a larger pot and keeping it protected from excess cold and moisture. I forgot about it. 🤦🏻♀️ Luckily it was against the house on the south side so the snow and rain only killed off the top. Was I glad to see new growth coming up in April!
Laura I love growing Japanese Maples in containers. I have three different varieties in large pots. Such great information you have shared. Always enjoy my visit with you each morning. Douglas has made himself right a home. ❤️ all the kitties when they make an appearance. Thank you and Aaron for such amazing videos. Here’s to a great gardening season.
I think the flower beds by your kitchen door are my absolute favorite. Such a peaceful spot lush spot to sit and relax or just enjoy the view while your doing dishes.
Nice to get an in depth lesson on container planting and care for trees and perennials. I always forget to water in the winter as we disconnect the hose because of freezing. Thanks Laura.
That’s beautiful, Laura! 🙌 I have three japanese maples in pots on the north side of our patio and they seam to have done great this winter (Sweden, zon 4). We are planning for a pond area where they will go eventually, but we do enjoy them so much in the meantime. It’s a great way to get double use out of them. And a way to handle ones inabillity to wait for the pond to actually be finished, before one runs out to shop for plants…😅😁
Hi Laura and Aaron! I do like the maple in that area. The plants you added are pretty, too. Hi Benjamin! It was obvious that Russell wasn't happy with Douglas. LOL! Thank you so much for sharing!
Good morning! Better late than never. Love the Japanese maple in that pot. You always put plants together that look so pretty. And you have the prettiest blue eyes in this video. Have a good day.
I love watching your “ plant recipes” I think mixed container are so much more interesting than just one thing. I had a lovely Japanese lace leaf maple tree that I bought from biltmore gardens in NC. It stayed in a thin plastic pot in my front yard for years as I couldn’t decide where to plant it. It’s now in the ground for a second year right about where the pit lived! lol It’s almost doubled in size which is pretty amazing as it’s the type that turns red in Fall & then sheds all its leaves. It’s always my first one to bloom out. They are just the best tree. (Maybe I should pot up another!) Funnily enough I just planted heucherellas around it this year. I can’t remember the name but they bud out a bright green and turn a deep purple. I also used some large leaf ferns. These are all under a larger tree canopy so only gets a few hours of morning sun & only this time of year. I can’t wait to see how full they get by end of summer. I may look for some of the other things you planted - but I definitely need things that will thrive in shade. Love your channel!
You should do a “tree/shrub” in a pot video submission for your series on our gardens. Also a Japanese Maple collection one. Someone here said they have over 200! I’d looove to see that!

Sounds very satisfying 🌟❤️
@C NB I live in the uk and our weather is unpredictable. It has blown over a couple of times so I must repot this yr. When I purchased the tree it did come in a pot with roots.
Our planted 25 yr old Christmas Tree is now 70 feet tall. Great for shade.
Picture of that, please....💞🙏💞
Laura, with those red tulips coming up every year, despite their uplifting, the universe is telling you to embrace that small pop of red! Loved this video, as I am getting ready to pot up a Japanese maple.
...or Aaron is secretly popping some bulbs in there every year...
@@roxanneturpin620 😂👍
Yep, those Red Tulips just want to be noticed and talked about! I'd leave them, you may miss them if they stop appearing.
Hello Laura and Family,
But WHO is Douglas lol!!!! Such a beautiful cat.

I’m in the same camp, but with Christmas greenery( long turned brown) in pots that I rarely walk by.
My outside Christmas tree is in the ground...i might try your idea
What a pretty planting of the tree! It looks great adding a splash of color and height in that corner. Those poor determined red tulips, in a battle with Laura to survive. ( I think the look gorgeous…shhhh, don’t tell Laura!)
There was one there before that died
Me too! My favourite tulip 🌷

I agree and just left a similar comment. We’re all just living life and they’re no exception and I love that about them.
When you wake up at 4:30 might as well stay up until garden answer video comes out love your videos got my whole family to start watching 🤩
Jack: "family watch!"
Me: Yes
Such a true statement. As an east coast girl I'm amazed hey upload before I wake up for my 8am job
Your cats and children are always highlights of the videos. Make me say aw or laugh.
So cute the way benjamin leaned against the table and said i came out to do a video with u!
10 yrs? That’s incredible! What variety? I placed a dwarf wheeping maple and it only lasted 2 years. Prob bc I’m 5b and thinner pot.
Solution: plant the 10 yr old out and start a new baby tree on your deck. Best of both worlds.
That was so adorable that Benjamin “was going to do the video with you”….so precious!
Thank you
Woah - that heuchera is GORGEOUS! Can't wait to get my hands on those next year. Benjamin is so dang cute - always love to see him pop in and out.
Well, my Christmas tree is gone; but, the Christmas Garland in the front porch is still there because a small bird decided to nest on it and I don't have the heart to mess with it.
Good info on potting trees in Containers.🌾
I love the Japanese Maple! It's the perfect place for that tree.
My husband bought a small Japanese maple last fall and we potted it up but I wanted to pot it up in a bigger pot and you have given me the information I needed to get it done .
I loooove the red tulips!🥰
I love how you’re not afraid to be you and show how even through all your planting, even YOU can forget to take down a Christmas tree. Or when you show your failed ventures. It helps us know that it’s ok and to not always be worried about the fails in gardening. Thank you 😊🌺
ALSO: Benjamin melts my heart every time he speaks! “Yea, I was going to do a video with you.” What a little gentleman and loving soul. Ugh I miss little kids. Mine are teenagers now. 😢
You're not the only one! Thanks for the motivation, Laura.
Counter sinking! Brilliant. I learn so much from your videos Laura. I so appreciate it when you explain your choices regarding color, foliage, and texture when considering plant placement. That arrangement with the tree is almost as cute as your little helper!! What a doll!
Laura love your honesty! We all have our “Christmas trees in a pot” projects lol. Love how u potted a Japanese maple. I have a similar variety. I feel inspired
Japanese maples are the best trees ever. I have about 200 in my collection! Huechera are a perfect companion plant for Japanese maples
Wow 😮 happy gardening.
Great YT name! 🤣
I’d love to see those!
I love how that corner looks with the Japanese maple. Maybe this one will last many more years. The other plants look pretty too, and definitely complete the look.
I cannot believe how green your garden looks already. So pretty
My heart melted when Benjamin said he was going to make a video with you😄 That was so sweet! And that face!! To cute!!
Very pretty! Thanks for the informative details after you finished planting.
That tree is beautiful and the pot turned out gorgeous!

My son still has his artificial Christmas tree set up with lights in his room! so you are NOT the only one at all.
Christmas all year round and it's good to see your son really into Christmas so good job to Santa Claus🤫
The Japanese Maple is my favourite tree, there are so many different leaf shapes and colours, ours are in Autumn tones at the moment, I just love them.
The Japanese maple is so beautiful here and the three kinds of flower's are also. The pot looks gorgeous. Love it.❤️🥰❤️

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE seeing the pops of red in the background.

Good morning, Laura☕️. I love the 🌳 in a pot look. In another area, you can cut the bottom off of the pot and let it grown into the ground. Saw it on Bunny Guinness. Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈
My favorite is Crimson King Norway Maple. Love the intense red leaves all year except winter months up north.

Love this idea, absolutely copying the idea! Anyone else? Asking my friends at the garden center for my best options! Very excited. Thank you Laura 😊
The Japanese maple is beautiful! We love huchera 😀
Russell and your understudy make life beautiful for your mom!!! Love you guys Laura!!
The way Ben is leaning on the table to talk to his mom like the CEO of the garden 😍😂💚💚
Awesome container, Laura! The tree combined with the plants you picked out look so nice.
It’s so nice to have this pot back to it’s glory. It is so pretty in that location perfect.

I did the same thing. $9 at Walmart. Heck ya! This year ima try to prune it into a spiral! 🤞it's twice the size it was so might as well try!
Benjamin is getting so big! What a cutie!!! Love how he always wants to help!
I'm in love with all the chartreuse plants from PW!! ❤
I just love little Benjamin. He looks so cute scrunching his nose. ❤️
Everything looks beautiful. I can't wait for garden tours.
Hey Laura,
I really appreciated you bringing out a variety of plants.
Those maple seeds are my nemesis! Lovely little Japanese Maple and planted pot, Laura!
Thank you... "Happy Mothers Day" to you and your mom! Thanks Arron! Love to see how you enjoy the trees!!! I love trees as well!
I can't help but notice the smiling leaf right in the middle of the tree! 😄 Looks like the tree is so happy with its new home, as it should be.
Laura the container looks so beautiful and perfect backdrop to your seating area. Thanks so much for all your advice and tips.. you are amazing and I love watching your videos ❤️
Wow beautiful. Can’t wait to see more planting videos of your flower crowds in plants !!! So excited.
Your son is so adorable! How he wanted to help you with video melted my heart. Your so blessed!
I LOVE chartreuse plants! what a beautiful arrangement with brilliant contrast!
You are so not the only one Laura! I still have two arborvitae‘s in pots on my front porch, because, “life”. 😂❤️
It appears to me that every time I hear you make plans for something in the Hartley, I wholeheartedly agree ‼️
Laura I love this video💕 it like you are sitting with us and having a chit chat.
Laura, that corner looks so beautiful now !! Those colors are perfect !
That’s beautiful, Laura! 🙌
I have three japanese maples in pots on the north side of our patio and they seam to have done great this winter (Sweden, zon 4).
Love the red tulip, adds a pop of color.
I love watching your “ plant recipes”
I think mixed container are so much more interesting than just one thing.
I had a lovely Japanese lace leaf maple tree that I bought from biltmore gardens in NC. It stayed in a thin plastic pot in my front yard for years as I couldn’t decide where to plant it. It’s now in the ground for a second year right about where the pit lived! lol
It’s almost doubled in size which is pretty amazing as it’s the type that turns red in Fall & then sheds all its leaves. It’s always my first one to bloom out.
They are just the best tree. (Maybe I should pot up another!)
Funnily enough I just planted heucherellas around it this year.
