Didn't really care about gaming as an adult but had an old PS1 plugged in that I'd occasionally play with friends. A buddy thought he'd do me a favour and bought me a cool new game that we'd seen in an advert for Christmas (a costly purchase at the time). I went to pick it up (it was an early release) and found that it was for the PS2; didn't want to tell him and burst his bubble so I bought a PS2 slim right then and there (grudginly :). PS1 games it does in it's sleep though :)
@@James-fx9vd I let the fan on 40% manual for PS2 games. And it is OK. Some games need a custom config to run properly on the PS3 emulator for classics ps2 games or they will cause bugs and black screens/ freezes.
My PS2 draws 15w with ssd and hdmi out. My PS3 ss draws nearly 100w. I prefer ps2 but to each their own.
@@JesusSaves86AB Indeed, each unit got its pros and cons. At the end of the day it really boils down to preference.
@@James-fx9vd mine is set at 50% and it still sounds like a helicopter.
my first was the "PHAT" one, loved it n' still do..
I freakin love how Eastern European’s say actually a lot and they say “how good is it” instead of “it is” it’s awesome, great video by the way I love FMCBT
I don't think he's Eastern European, I'm pretty sure that this is a Dutch accent.
Had a fat PS2. First and only console I've ever had since launch.
The intro is the sound of a piano being dropped off of a building 🤣
Actually no. The sound itself came from a Yamaha or Kawai Synth, which was mostly used in 80s/90s RnB & Jazz music. I have the original samples used in PS2 boot up chime
@@N.n.i.k he could be talking about the notes included, not the sound/synth itself
I have the fat PS2 all the way back from release. I still have most of my original games.
My first one is a fat model and I still have it, I’m planning to put a ssd in it some day
My playstation 2 is from the year 2000. It's the fat model. It is now 22 years old and still works like the first day. I now have a hard drive installed and play from there. It's much faster than the USB port.
We recently broke out probably one of the last few out of the box ps2 systems left. We had got it years ago as a backup so when our slim finally gave up and died on us. We could have likely sold it for an insane amount of money being a mint system but we love so many of the games that are on the PS 2 and still often play them. We had the original phat when they first came out.
Bruh should have just bought another one and kept that one mint
You lucky m-
My first version was a fat model. We got it so early slims did not yet exist. It came in a plastic hard suitcase. Ill never forget the boxing looked like cooking utensils so we weren’t excited because we thought my pops was just bringing home some junk.
Interesting! I never knew this existed. My first PS2 was a fat system. I believe it was a launch system. MGS2 fave. I currently run a slim silver PS2. Man i love that machine.
2001:14-year-old me getting a new PS2, loving it GT 3 A spec, Tekken 4, GTA 3, Starwars Starfighter.. Now collecting dust at my sister's house shelves.
2023: Restore my PS2 slim surface, ordering 256mb cards, mcboot 64mb, USB stick..
Try locate dualshock 2's in the garage 😂 or order Bluetooth adapter if all else fails.
Weird time-line, gotta love 2020s even younger generation loving what we use to play in that era.
I still have my fat ps2 and it still reads the blue discs even. Thanks for sharing. Great video.
My first PS2 was the fat model. SCPH-50003 - silver. I have had lots of fun with it back in the day!
I had the fat model. Traded it for a Slim when it became available. I’m sure I got the Slim and Vice City on the same day.
Pretty sure it came out when San Andreas came out
@@yesmate78 When San Andreas was released, did they erase Vice City from history?
when i was 3 my bro got a ps2 slim and i used to play games on it then now i wanna play some cool games from that time
Want to know what my first (and only and also current)ps2 is? It's a ps2 fat that I purchased 2 days before it went from launch $749 aud price to (I think, I honestly can't remember) $399 aud.....
Can't complain though it has been one of the best consoles I have ever purchased with my own money .
Never did tell him and we both played the game with enjoyment ...
Those 15-20 dollar hdmi adapters are amazing for the money, I have one for my wii and it was much cheaper and better than getting component cables for it!
Those adapters are complete trash compared to original component cables and a good setup
I had the slim edition. Still have it 15 years later
Ethernet from pc is a good solution for playing games on ps2. bit of a pain to configure but besides burning the disk it's been the best solution I've found. loads just fine.
Any links how to do this?
I got the slim when I was 5, my uncle was the one who gave it to me and I was AWESOME
Great video it is amazing the things that can still be done with PS2
First PS2 was a slim, I hope one day there is a handheld with perfect emulation of PS2 games
My Psp Has Played Spyro 1- 3 and Warriors Orochi 2 that i bought off psn Store.
Try loading from the network/lan. Worked well for me when i tried it.
ps 2 slim is my first play station I didn't expect that small
Your better off connecting an old router ( that has usb )to the PS2 then set up share in opl. I have 500gb hd connected it works like a charm.
Yeah a raspberry pi will do the job nicely. Miles better than the ps2's usb ports.
Can you link me to a tutorial for that please?
I never played the ps2 when I was a kid and I would watch my dad play. Loved watching him play shadow of the colossus and gta vice city on the fat ps2
I use a dirt cheap ssd with my ps2 slim. Works awesome and so far has loaded every game I've tested. Loads faster than my modded PS Classic.
Just finnished replacing the (dead) DVD drive on one of mine, currently transfering games... i have a little bit of a doubt that it will outperform an SD card due to the IDE interface, but 1TB for €65 is definetly cheaper than the same ammount in SD...
@@anno5936 I still remember the PlayStation 2 launch and how impressed I was at the time. I'm happy we can enjoy it to its full potential now with modern tech despite the limitations of the hardware. Also grateful for how cheap a ps2 is now, especially one with disc read issues.
@@JesusSaves86AB "modern tech" would also apply to emulation :)
But each decade has its legends... the PS2 sure is one. I just love how cheap you can pick 'em up, refurbish and add some stuff to see them revive in a kid's room.
Finnished testing, and to no surprise a SSD doesn't give you more performance butbof course is near-silent. Also, for an "internal" solution, 1 TB is not a viable option due to limitations of the file system, so it's fair to say, an IDE to SD card mod is a more "user-friendly" approach.
Ps2 slim was my second gaming console , psp was my first back then ps2 graphic made my jaw drop even some psp games looked awesome
I have Both... My Favorite is the Fat Model because I bought it on Day 1 of its release...
I wanna get the phat one too I only got the itty bitty one 😂lmao it's not bad but I think that one would be better too
in case having a problems.... there are MODES to be triggered in settings...im still using FMCB up to this day and some games plays smooth..some games loads smooth and some does takes time but you know the feeling that your playing now and ISO version instead of standard PS2 game...
I had the phat model. I got a 5 finger discount at target xD
Bruh
Nice
That’s gangsta 🤣
Something to be proud of
I had 2 fat PS2s and 1 slim (silver). I miss them all. Just sold my slim last year. :(
That's interesting and a little complicated (and yes, the original playstation bootsound is still the best 😉)
Back in the early 2000s my godmother got me and my siblings the fat PS2. For some reason though, I can't remember, we lost it. Fast forward 10 years, I bought a brand new slim PS2 which is fully functional. I'm also expecting a component to HDMI converter in order to use it again on my HD TV
Excited to watch this one!
Thanks buddy, I have been using Free Mcboot for years but did not think about using usb stick for games. Now I will do that.
Isnt it slow tho?
I just heard about this!
Really?? I've known about this since 2014
My 1st ps2 is a slim I bought new in 2010 and still playing it today!🥳🥳🥳unfortunately my controller is type H so just recently got newer one..not want to deal with hassle getting aftermarket PCB and soldering to fix it😵💫maybe at later time
My first ps2 was the phat boy, lol. It died though pretty much, only playing blue discs near the end.
I still have my slim PS2. The disc reader is slowly dying to the point where I'm now afraid to change out the game in fear of never being able to play it again. I thought this USB thing might just be my solution as it would bypass the disc stuff entirely
Bro you talk to damn much. Just give us what we came for and move on 😩
My first PlayStation was the fat boi, but I upgraded to the slim when it came out. I still have the slim. And it still works
I own both the Ps2 fat and Ps2 slim silver edition! I bought my Ps2 slim silver backbone 2005 and it still looks good and a brilliant little console. The Ps2 fat black condole I got last week from my future son in law cause he had enough of it and was just collecting dust . He gave it to me for free with 2 controllers , 2 memory cards , 1 camera, 2 ps2 games and as well as the ps2 remote ! I will never sell them and keep them for life and will sure take good care of them both as the current Ps5 is very expensive. Well I'm very happy and excited to have both ps2 consoles😀👍👍👍
My first PS2 was the fat model. I was playing a game and my brother in law ran across the living room into the controller cable and it pulled the PS2 off the entertainment center and killed it.
About an hour later I walked out of Walmart with a PS2 Slim and a Logitech wireless controller
In the end all ps2 USB gaming is nightmare, thanks to usb super low speed and compatibility issues with some games.
would be cool if there was an easy mod that just takes out the optical drive and replaces it with a sata drive, sadly from what I saw in teardowns the ODD isn't just plugged into a standard sata cable but multiple ribbon cables
i got the slim ones but its already broke.....this video make feel nostalgic.
I would have to get another if it broke I got the slim too... I wanna get the phat one tho lol
i still have my ps2 slim with about 20 something games, all work perfectly, even my ps2 works like new, and i've had it since the day it came out. i also own a ps3 slim, and ps4 pro. over 30 games on each of those.
I have a slim. My first and only ps2. Still works
my first ps2 was a slim.
Cool. I still have my console perfect condition. With all games. I will try this thank you.
My first EVER console: PS2 slim SCPH-77003(PAL). Bought in 2008
My first was the original fat one, about 2 weeks after it came out in the UK i got it for my 12th birthday, loved it.. fav games were the GTA series, Need For Speed Series and Terminator Dawn Of Fate.
0:51 That right there! That's MINE!
Yes, I had the fat PS2. I got it when I was 10 years old for Christmas and my favorite games that I got on it was Tony Hawk pro skater for GTA vice city jack and Dexter
Why are you sooo good at explaining things? 😁
It should be noted that this will not work with the 9000 series slim models. I learned this the hard way. After trying to salvage my console when the laser died I decided to give this solution a shot. Unfortunately nothing happens when I do all of these steps since I own a 9000 series. I'll have to eventually just pick up another PS2. In the meantime I'm resorting to emulation via my PC and playstation 3.
I had a slim PS2 about two or three times in my lifetime as a gamer. 🎮🎮🎮🎮🎮
My slim will only read PS1 discs. Won't read PS2 or DVD. Please Help
slim one delta force with friends was my childhood
Please do an updated video illustrating the difference in speed between regular ISO and compressed ISO on OPL
I don't use a an HDMI adapter at all. I use HD Retrovision YPbPr Component Cables and an OSSC. The OSSC is better quality, and it cleanly deinterlaces 480i to 480p.
