Got the disc to run on my PS2, but I had to boot the console first then insert the disc and access it like a DVD movie, my disc burner didn't go lower than 4x but the disc turned out OK. I'm following your other tutorial to boot games from USB. 👍

@pindzyn the disc worked just fine to create the free mcboot card, I didn't need to fix it. You can burn it at 4x speed.
did it remove the data in the memory card?
I believe the memory card needs to be empty for this to work. It also needs to be an original Sony branded card. Heard you can do it with any card but it might be glitchy or not work at all.
Is this the same process for creating a FMCB card for connecting a SATA for storage, or will this only work for burned games?

Please help I always get a black screen when the disc starts reading. Did burned the wrong ISO? I downloaded the ISO for all ps2 slims, because I have the 770xx model. Edit: I fixed it by changing the language to english

It took a while to get FreeDVDBoot working, but I did it, I got FreeMCBoot installed via FreeDVDBoot.
My PS2 model is the 30001 R model, and the DVD player firmware is 2.10.
I just got the PS2 hours ago, and I had been testing my disc games with it. And finally I got it working properly.
wait you have to do it with a empty dvd instead an empty CD ??

Lets say u remove that usb or memory card after jailbreaking and put a ps2 disc and start the console will it boot normally with the ps2 intro and all?
So, I picked up a memory card at my local game shop. Crazy enough it had fmcb on it. So I'm trying to learn how to use it. I'm wondering if my issues are from my USB stick I'm using. Most of the time when I try to load a game I get the message loading config and I guess it freezes. I've had it actually boot games a few times but it's not consistent at all. I was thinking I should order a SanDisk 3.0 USB and try that as a fix. It appears to be an authentic 8gb Sony magic gate memory card My PS2 has stopped reading the DVD games and looks like I need to clean it but other than that I don't know what to say that would be helpful other than it says it's running version 1.966. Hoping someone here can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. TIA

Sadly , it wouldn't work on my version 2.10 DVD .... It ignores the burned DVD on boot . So I ordered the memory card and it works ! It sees my hdd and that it has no games on it yet . Now , to test the card on the slim I was given..... and figure out how to add PS1 games on the hdd also . Got a ton of them compared to my PS2 titles . Or it's RetroArch on the PC for them !

With the PS2 getting up in age, the CMOS battery will need replacement. Any chance for a pair of videos for the replacement process? Maybe 1 video for each type?
Pretty simple. Open up the ps2 and drop in a fresh cr2032 into the battery holder.

Hi my friend gave a usb and memory card that has all files of freeboot and opl … but when I started the console it didn’t start with freeboot menu .. but i can see all these files through browser at menu !! What is the missing step to make it working!

So I followed the steps correctly, my ps2 model is SCPH-39001. The dvd version is 2.12U, and when I go to the mass in the free dvd boot, the files for the FMCB in the USB drive is not showing. And the USB iS FAT32 formatted. Please help. Thank you.

Tried with a DVDRW but the PS2 slim wouldn't read it, so I tried another PS2 slim and it read there was disk there but got a error "unable to read disk", so I give till I find another disk to use. I think its because the disk has some hairline scratches. not much but a few.
I was hoping to do this but finding out I needed a DVD drive/writer, I just ended up buying the card instead.

are the freemcboot memory cards you can buy online all compatible and you only have to check the version of your PS2 to create your own freemcboot?
Thanks for the video. Did all the steps but when I power on the ps2 with the 8gb mmc, usb, and the cd, it seems that the console won't read the disc. any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a reason why we have to write the disc at a slow speed? I thought the same data gets written to the disc no matter what speed you choose. The faster write speeds just became available as burners became faster
Faster speeds can give errors when writing to discs and ps2/ps1 are very particular about it. You could be playing a game fine for hours but you get to one section of the game that was wrote to wrong/bad and youre done, cant progress. writing at the slowest speed makes sure the games work 100%

Didnt work for me , ps2 says it couldn’t read disk and the fmcb installer that website is giving me lots of problems so I downloaded the installer else where and maybe thats why

When the game file is burned on the disc can I just use the disc to play that game? It seemed like you used the disc to setup the mcboot but can't I use it to run games?
Yes but then you'd have to build a freedvdboot version of every game you want to play. Also, freedvdboot only works on some PS2 models so my PS2 for instance is too old and has the wrong DVD player firmware so it doesn't work at all for me making this tutorial a bit useless for me but still interesting.

You might have the wrong DVD version
I did everything right, followed every step, chose the right iso and I still have a black screen after launching the dvd. I even made 5 different discs with multiple softwares and it doesnt want to work. Any ideas on what I could do?

don't use this tutorial, it's not compatible with most PS2s out there and the project was abandoned. since you'll be owning a hard drive anyway for this mod, use the hard drive mcboot method to create the memory card mcboot (mrmario2011 tutorial)
