  • In this video, Byron Martin discusses Indian Clock Vine (Thunbergia mysorensis), a striking tropical vine known for its pendulous, tubular flowers that resemble colorful hanging clocks. Native to India, this vine thrives in warm climates and can be a stunning addition to gardens or as a potted plant. It produces vibrant, yellow and maroon flowers that dangle gracefully, attracting pollinators like hummingbirds. Indian Clock Vine prefers well-draining soil and regular watering. It's a great choice for adding a touch of the tropics to your outdoor or indoor spaces. Just be sure to provide support for its climbing habit.

I bought one of these from Logees a few years ago, after seeing the species in flower at San Francisco’s Conservatory of Flowers. It really has a spectacular flower; I’m very happy with mine. The one I purchased bloomed with a year or two of purchase, and now has flowers and buds throughout most of the year.

It's a native of South India :) Restricted to the western ghats mountain range along the southwestern coast of India.

I love this plant, It used to be grown in the Michigan State Botany Teaching Greenhouses back in the day. A hard 1 to find and requires hot humid conditions so not really a houseplant, but is lovely.
