A part of what I enjoy about your vids is that although you're a pro and train like Mountaindog with some screws loose, you're cordial and open-minded.
At 30, it's great for me to see an older lifter changing the toxic gym and parenting culture I grew up in. You're a great example that you don't have to be an asshole to be serious or competitive.
Big thanks from a fan over here in Zambia. Stay safe everyone.

Only problem is the chlorine and pool chemicals, even chlorine in the water you shower in can be an issue so some people get shower filters, but I have well water so not really an issue. Some people into dry fasting won't even shower during it as skin can absorb enough of the water to break a water fast, and also negative things in the water. Killing bacteria on your body isn't good either, good microbes on your skin is good too not just in the gut. I try to just stick to deodorant salts under arms to help control BO and that's it. It's a lot harder following a diet that's mostly keto and based on high quality animal foods because it increases BO, but that's actually a good thing, it means you're producing hormones optimally.
I kinda wish people would learn to just take the bad microbes with the good instead of just try to kill them all, which just lowers natural immunity to the bad, if things were naturally in balance the bad microbes would seldom be an issue but for too many people things are naturally out of balance and really difficult to near impossible to correct these days, not enough people are in good enough health to handle the bad microbes, but a lot of the ways we cope with it just makes it worse and tends to create super bugs. Properly raised 100% grass-fed beef tends to be antibiotic-free for a reason, they tend not to get sick, grain-fed beef does. Humans are no different, most people's diets are more messed up than they realize.
Fat from grain-fed animals is about as bad as refined seed oils, in some ways worse because animals store toxins in their fat. Fat and oils you eat tend to get stored directly as fat, rather than converted into fat like other macros(or for herbivores, plant fiber gets converted to healthy fats), so fat from grain-fed animals practically is like seed oils, high in omega 6's and linoleic acid, just not as high. Same with humans, doing intermittent fasting and keto where you're going through body fat stores a lot, if your fat stores are too high in omega 6 and toxins, you'll get symptoms from it when burning through the stores. But over time it'll probably speed up correcting omega imbalances in the body, as long as you stick to quality fats when you eat, doing just one keto meal a day you'll burn through more fat stores, and store a lot of the fat you eat in one meal. Fat from quality animal foods is ideal, as it's the closest to your own body fat, coconut oil is great too.
I don't do really strict keto and not usually OMAD or anything especially since I started training at least once a week. I do first half of training fasted, then after completing upper body I'll have raw honey and grass-fed whey, do upper body stretches and give carbs enough time to get into muscle, then cardio on a bike to warmup legs, then do legs. Next time I do lower body fasted and upper after whey/honey. Otherwise I just have carbs if I feel like cortisol is getting too high to sleep well, I'll have some raw honey before sleep, but my stress is generally great on keto and I sleep better if anything, I think it's largely genetic or maybe people not giving keto adaptation enough time. Raw honey is already broken down into readily available glucose and fructose so it's great for post/intra workout where faster absorption helps for gaining lean muscle after fasted training.
It's kind of a post/intra/pre-workout all at once. It's just enough carbs to maintain some adaptation to using them efficiently for fuel, and get lean muscle gain and performance benefits. Also doing mostly keto helps maintain gains if you only train once a week, but train to failure the last set of every exercise, and I'm not afraid to make sure I'm eating around the clock and enough to get gains 4-5 days a week, then I can cut 2-3 days a week with 1-2 meals a day and stay lean so I might just train once a week especially since I do manual labor weekdays.
I'm sorry for the long comment, I can turn just about anything into a rant lol. I should really just get a camera and start a channel on this since I'm actually getting serious about it, but I've only been training 3 months and I'm 34 so it'll be a while before I get enough results for anyone to take me seriously, probably 9 more months.

    • @brians1793
      @brians1793 4 роки тому

I also know these kinds of things tend to stress people out to think about or like it's ruining all the fun in life, I get it I've been there. But after a while you get past that, and it actually helps stress if anything when you learn these things and get more serious about avoiding negative things as much as you can and feel so much better. I'd been getting better about it for years, then getting into training just seemed like a natural progression once I realized my diet was already on point for nutrition and near the protein I'd need to build lean muscle, and you hardly need a calorie surplus as a natty at my age, like 100-200 calories is fine, maybe 200-300(or about a 10-15% surplus for me) training days, then either maintenance when doing 1-2 meals or a 200-300 deficit nothing too crazy.
I actually feel the opposite way about some things too, like realizing a lot of veggies aren't as good or necessary for health as people think especially when you remove the negative things they help make up for in the first place, and high quality animal foods are healthy and I love eating them. That, and sun screen is actually negative and can actually increase cancer risk if it causes vitamin D deficiency, and zinc oxide can absorb in the skin if it's not non-nano and potentially cause high zinc especially if you're diet is high in animal foods. Getting regular enough sun to have a good enough tan to prevent burning, getting sun is actually very healthy and beneficial, just keep it in controlled regular doses to avoid burning, rather than avoid the sun and then need sun screen to avoid burning in more extreme cases of sun exposure. Even 15-30 minutes with as little clothing as you can get away with during peak UV index as often as you can should work to get skin used to sun exposure. Taking astaxanthin can help too, all the cells of the body take it in and it helps protect skin from sun burn/damage and could probably resist skin cancer too, probably far more effective than sun screen, but it might take a couple months of taking it for the skin cells to take enough in. Helps the eyes too.

Since I started February eating in a caloric deficit, I've used Mission tortillas for a lot of my meals. Either with liquid egg whites for breakfast, or chicken, salmon, tilapia, or tuna wraps. I have lost 18 pounds since then, probably more since then if not counting my minor muscle gains :P
Also, I've been eating turkey burgers too. I used to eat two during one meal with cheese, which is 760 calories, but I now make one double turkey burger to cut back on more calories, for a total of 580 calories.

John...Turkey Burgers are my staple! One difference that I do and try this with the tortilla. Sautee mushrooms and onions. After you cook the patty...place the turkey into the tortilla with the sauteed mushrooms and onions. I usually use one pepper jack cheese slice. A1 or Heinz 57...not too much. Both are fairly low in carb..A1 has 2grams..while 57 has 4 grams. I fold the tortiall over like a taco an then fold the two sides in. Lay the tortilla in the same pan that you sauteed the onions...to just brown the tortilla on both sides. This melts the cheese and I swear...its one of the best things I eat! My wife says...I'm going to turn into a turkey...but man...theses things are good. The calories come out to about 425... with about 40grams of protein..and maybe 10 net carbs! It's a killer meal! Try it and see if you enjoy it as much as I do. I use the same tortillas! It's like a turkey burger/quesadilla.

John, you mentioned turkey burgers. I probably go through two boxes of them a week. They are so super easy to cook and super lean. I normally toss two in the pan with a bit of olive oil, toss a cup of jasmine rice over the top and a half avocado and mush it all together, or leave the avocado out and add in a bit of bbq sauce and mix it all up. Super easy! I think Fouad does something similar with his fish and rice. What shocks me is how you are retaining your size with that light of a diet! You look super healthy considering what all is going on.

Hey John- great video. Here is a semi accurate breakdown of your macros by meal using a Cronometer app and then your end of day total.
    Breakfast:
    Old fashioned rolled oats 1/2 cup = 150 cals , fresh blueberries ~1 cup = 80 cals, Garden of Life flax chia blend 2 Tbs = 75 cals, raw honey 1 Tbs = 60 cals, scoop Granite Protein Salted caramel = 120 cals. Total breakfast = 33g P, 72g C, 9g F, 14g fiber (Total~ 485 - 500 calories)
    Lunch:
    Chicken breast 5oz = 211 cals, real shredded cheddar cheese ~1/2cup = 257 cals, mission flour tortillas carb balance 3 tortillas = 210 cals, guacamole squeeze tube ~ 3Tbs = 75 cals. Total lunch = 71g P, 66g C, 42g F, 48g fiber (Total ~ 754 calories)
    Dinner:
    Cod 5oz = 150 cals, sourdough bread x2 slices= 348 cals, zucchini 1 med = 15 cals, 1 Tbs butter or oil used to cook veggies cod= 102 cals. Total Dinner = 48g P, 70g C, 16g F, 4g fiber (Total ~ 615 calories)
    Snack:
    Rice Chex 1cup = 100 cals, almond milk unsweetened 2cups = 72 cals. Total snack = 5g P, 26g C, 6g F, 1g fiber (Total ~ 172calories)
    Total for Day= ~2,025 - 2,045 calories
    155g P, 233g C minus 67g fiber, 73g F (=3.5g omega 3s, 4.5g omega 6, 27g Saturated, 37g other)
Guess this is the winning physique and strength menu!! Lookout John, we know your secrets and will soon catch up. Lol. Btw, it must be the Rice Chex that are giving your those monster calves.
Great shirt bleaching idea by Alexander. But in the future he may want to wear a different outfit when using bleach. He started the video demo without any spots on his clothes and then by the time he was doing yo-yo tricks the spots appeared where all the bleach splashed on him....Oops!! But great idea using the face mask respirator.
    Take care and stay well,
    Gary

It's so cool seeing a dad being a dad in video by someone who is generally known for being a pro Bodybuilder. This contrast between beastial, hard Training image of a Bodybuilder and the supportive dad is so awesome. Also your son is a legend on that JoJo. My God he will be slaying everything with that. Holy hell is that stuff impressive.

Love the 'Leave it to Beaver' just another family down the street feel of John's Homelife. And what a treat to be allowed into his 'home' on a continuing basis with his wife and kids. So different than all the others I've seen/watched. Floored, though, at how little he actually consumes each day. Crikey!! I eat 1st breakfast and shake, 2nd breakfast, pre-workout drink, intra workout drink, post workout drink and meal, snack, dinner, bedtime snack and shake ...

Look how beautiful and green the foliage is in Ohio. Anyways, John, if you are doubling the amount of Chia/flax too, or any seed for that matter, that could be what is upsetting your stomach and not the extra oats! That's what I find for myself anyway :)

Hey John, one advice I've got from the man I buy honey from. Never use a metal spoon for raw and fresh honey, only wooden ones. Metal affects the honey and decreases it's quality somehow.

    • @cruelfish4824

Old wive's tale, may be true with spoons that aren't stainless or otherwise corrosion resistant. (That is, if you leave the spoon in.)
      Bonus fun fact!
Properly stored honey lasts for a few thousand years.

@@cruelfish4824 maybe true mate. The honey dood told me that metal spoons can be used when the honey crystalizes, once again, I did not ask why 😀

John! Please don’t use those auto car washes! They damage your paint and finish. Get a detailer to hand wash your car. Some can even come out to your house. The clean will be way better then a auto wash!
