That aggressive acoustic guitar on this song hooks you. Then the electric comes in and rivets your attention. I remember when this came out in 1969. On AM radio. Could never get enough of it.
Why no one plays THAT tone which Entwistle plays on a bass? That is the source of this song! And, indeed, I've heard on pocket AM radio too, and never had enough!
I had it on 8 track and every song is fantastic,Elton John I think did it too some songs. The movie was a strange adventure and Petes story kinda, they had the good acid back then.
I saw the who here in Seattle ten years ago and they were ok still and Pete could move and Roger sang good in different key,but they had this awkward Elvis tribute that wasted half the show showing old movies of Elvis and some crappy nothing songs, I was right next to Paul Allen and we both were baffled, I think Pete has a bizarre interest in Elvis cause it was weird. You did a great version of that and voice in that live performance was perfect.
Pete's stuff, him being such an incredible strummer with perfect timing, isn't easy to duplicate exactly, but yours is about as close as anyone is gonna get. It took me the entire summer of 1975 to get that strumming down with those tricky accents. I believe he did use the SJ200 on the recording...those have a distinct crisp, yet somewhat muffled tone to them (which is weird, because they sound like a sock is stuffed inside)...they don't ring out like a typical Martin does...but I love that sound - which got me to pick up the guitar in the first place. Great job. Pete rules!
Yes I think it was an SJ200. I've tried several in shops, but luckily never liked them enough to want to buy one, as they weren't cheap!! Maybe one day!
@TJ Walker They are overpriced, in my opinion - and, as Townshend once said, with Gibsons, you need to play a bunch of them to get one you like. The SJ200 is a quality instrument..but weird in the sense that it sounds so-so to the ear, but on recordings, it can be really shine. Like I said, it has a sort of muffled sound for a big guitar. Maybe that's the key... but 5-6K for a new one, 4.5 K for used? Forgettabout it! I could buy a vintage Hiwatt or older Les Paul for that money!
@@harrykadaras9459 When I went shopping for my first decent acoustic the Martins were far more consistent...Gibsons very variable in quality at the time. I think they're better now. I went for a Martin HD28 and have never regretted it!
I know what you're getting at....but it would make the subdivisions of each beat incorrect.....the 3 over 4 is an interesting rhythm.....both divide into 12 so they both land back on beat 4!
I feel your pain! Years ago a mate and I entered a talent contest in our local pub.We won our 2 heats and although confident of winning the final we were beaten in to 3rd place by a terrible comedian and a magician. After the result one of the judges told me they couldn't have another musical act winning that year and btw I love that 'Town Called Alice' 🤣
Thanks. The vid is great. The Tablature and the little details are absolutely fantastic. However, because of you, I can no longer pronounce “accented”. It’s a small price to play for great instruction. Jk, thanks again (I’m not kidding about “accented”, everyone gets a kick out of me trying to say it.)
I'd forgotten about the accented bit! I've learnt I can't say quite a few words properly from watching myself back.....and my children telling me too of course! Glad you liked the vid.....thanks for watching!

Really liked your analysis of the pinball wizard intro ! And I completely understand your distinction between Pete Townshend is using a Gibson and you are using your MARTIN I believe . ( Your Martin was your back up Guitar I don’t know what Guitar you used on your experimental recording ) Nevertheless I believe that you got the exact strum or extremely close to it that Pete Townshend used on the beginning of that iconic recording that he made back in the late 60s early 70s ! Excellent !
Hi, I use Cubase. There are various ways to get around the latency issues. With electric guitar I tend to use the amp sims on my UAD card which have no latency....or more recently a Kemper that I've borrowed. For software synths and similar there's a button that disables all plugins so you can play with virtually no latency (I didn't discover it until fairly recently after years of struggling....doh!!), but that works really well. Glad you enjoyed the lesson!!
Cannot see what your fingers are making the cords because you’re sideways very difficult to see the cords you should had a close-up cannot see the cords in a sideways camera position
I see what you mean.....i'll try and get one of the cameras more straight on in future!! The close up/sideways one is to show the right hand.....but I need to get the other one more straight on to show the left hand! When I get a chance I'll do another video just of my hands on this song.
Great performance and lesson, but come on....what were you thinking entering a children's talent competition? BTW I hear there's an open mic at Chucky Cheez for special needs kids. Want to try for the gold?

@@gaittec No not at all! I think it's funny....I'm glad I didn't win....not only would I have had to contend with the parents of the losing children being annoyed with me....but I wouldn't have a good story to tell when I play the song on gigs!! Thanks for watching...glad you like my version!!
