As great as Maybelle was she seemed very humble and shy, and such a incredible talent, but, never boastful! And she had God given talent and so beautiful in spirit! What a legacy to her family and the world!
Mother Maybelle was a real lady, she was already 64 when this was recorded! Had she lived she would have been 100 years old on May 10th 2009. This is great lets have some more.
Them Texas fields were hot And that tractor never was my kind of living And when I hit sixteen I had my size and I hit the road to freedom And I'm glad I wasn't there To see my momma cause she must've cried for hours I still hear her saying Gary Get your guitar and pick The Wildwood Flower Now Dallas it was big And hard to find a job and so I didn't It was easier to hitch a ride to Houston And it was more like living Now I've been down every road And I've stood on every porch where they were giving And if they had an hour or a dime I would pick The Wildwood Flower It's hard to turn around And look back down the roads that I have travelled Cause like a neverending ball of twine My dreams have come unravelled And now as…
Awesome music. Thanks for the inspiration, Johnny. Without you and your music I might have never written any of my own folk songs about my family. God bless. RIP.
America’s Royalty: Mother Maybelle Carter! Like gold in the soil! Beautiful. Notice how she just stands behind Johnny and simply plays the very instrument she taught the WORLD to play. But remember this, she always told the world how she learned and learned it from another, “a colored man named Lesley Riddle.” That’s humility right there folks!!!
Hello, someone from Africa is still enjoying this now. NICE PEOPLE , NICE MUSIC./// PEACE. I know this because I went to WVU and listen to J.C a lot. I learned something while in beautiful WV.
UA-cam and other video clip hosting sites will ensure that this version of country music lives forever. We must do our part to share and educate where possible, because their legacy demands it.
I woke up this morning with this song in my head,, And I'm glad I wasn't there to hear my Mother cause you know she of cryed for hours... Now it's hard to turn a around and look back down that long road i've traveled...... i never foget watching this Man in Black...... God Bless them all for they are gone and the music is gone also...
Johnny CASH!!! What a singer and what a brilliant performer!!! TY Johnny CASH you shared your talents with your Fans all over the world. You'll never be forgotten.

There was only one Mother Maybell Carter. My mom who player the banjo and Guitar Played like her. The died at age 73 but I will always remember her songs I was born in Tuckasegee, NC 1939 The Great Smokies.
Hello, I saw Johnny Cash in New York City a few years ago , i was in the Central Park . I had to use the Men's Room so I went into the Plaza Hotel Lobby, Johnny Cash walked out thru the doors as I was walking in....he was dressed in Black and had his little boy with him....I asked someone who was that ? They said that was Johnny Cash.....from John in North Carolina.
but John didn't pick up the guitar until he was in the military in germany where he boughjt his first instrument. when he came home his singing career started. and i love this mans songs.
You know Mother Maybelle was good on the guitar if the great Earl Scruggs took lessons from her. Which is true. She was his neighbor and taught him how to play the guitar like her. You can watch him pick the Wildwood Flower right here on youtube.
Don't be sad... these people lived to entertain us. Yeah, it would be nice to see these folks in person, but the thing is, if you got to see them in person or not, they were there, and we get to enjoy (In-joy!) them here. They gave a lot to entertain us, even though they are dead to this world, they leave a legacy behind, and we get to enjoy it, live or otherwise...sure it would have been nice to see them live, but we get to see them, live or not, right here, right now..
Where I grew up in western Ky.,& you played guitar & couldn't pick the wildwood flower, you could be deported to Indiana-or worse, further north! Am not trying to start the civil war again, just making a bad joke. Maybe! I was lucky enough to know Johnny, & He'd get a chuckle, hope you will too!
Nice to know Im not the only one who thinks so! Lets make some noise, and see if we can get "hollywood" to agree and do it! I like your idea of the sequel title "Ring of Fire"
Who would think that little granny playing the guitar is one of the giants of 20th century country music?
Not only that but guitar players in any genre owe her alot
As great as Maybelle was she seemed very humble and shy, and such a incredible talent, but, never boastful! And she had God given talent and so beautiful in spirit! What a legacy to her family and the world!
Mother Maybelle Carter is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I love the way she picks. Thanks for posting.
She was pretty much the original guitar picker
She picks a mean Carter Scratch
it's the Carter's that changed Cashes life
Bingo...gave him real love.
Very true.
Watch the documentary my father and the man in black. It was Christ who changed Johnny's life...
💯
Mother Maybelle must have loved him! He was a simple boy with a tragic childhood driven too greatness.
I LOVE than Johnny takes the time to remind everyone that Mother Maybelle has a thing or two to teach all of us...including him!
That’s called respect, back when it existed
Does anyone not realize that she was burdened with Arthritis. She suffered so that the music wouldn't. She was a national treasure. BAR NONE
Mother Maybelle was so humble for being the best
Mother Maybelle was a real lady, she was already 64 when this was recorded! Had she lived she would have been 100 years old on May 10th 2009. This is great lets have some more.
Ain't nobody can play the Wildwood Flower like Mother Maybelle...
Helen did a great job, too.
@@pkranz937 Who do think taught Helen to play like that?
She was simply wonderful.
Facts
Maybelle brought the old Appalachian church lick into music greatness.
I great! I enjoy listening to this. It reminds me of my sister. She would go to sleep to it.
Those kind of stars of music are solely missed...great music and great family
7Victor Mioduszewski
What a smile Johnny Cash has, just lights me up.
I love the way she plays, pity we didn't see more of this music today, thanks for posting love the old music
It saddens my heart knowing I'll never get to see these great people perform, or even just alive...
Oh to be born so many generations late...
AWESOME .. I was so blessed / fortunate to actually get to see the CASH Family several times ....
Them Texas fields were hot
And that tractor never was my kind of living
And when I hit sixteen
I had my size and I hit the road to freedom
And I'm glad I wasn't there
To see my momma cause she must've cried for hours
I still hear her saying Gary
Get your guitar and pick The Wildwood Flower
Now Dallas it was big
And hard to find a job and so I didn't
It was easier to hitch a ride to Houston
And it was more like living
Now I've been down every road
And I've stood on every porch where they were giving
And if they had an hour or a dime
I would pick The Wildwood Flower
It's hard to turn around
And look back down the roads that I have travelled
Cause like a neverending ball of twine
My dreams have come unravelled
And now as…
Carter Family Picking!
Gotta love it.
Both legends of country music no longer with us..Rest In Peace...

Maybelle Carter and Wildwood Flower my favourite tune on my banjo.
Such a great combination, 3/22/21
It just looks SOOO awsome to see her looking like and old grey haired granny in an old fashioned dress rocking out with that giant Gibson.
Well the dress is old fashioned now, but that was a pretty modern dress in the 70s.
Gibson L-5, one of the first archtop guitars.
Love Johnney Cash-a friend of mine used to be able to sing his songs. Wow Johnneys mother playing here is so great :)
The Carter family were among the most influential in country music Tivoli, This was Johnny's Mom in Law, he was married to June Carter
+Tivoli Skye That was NOT JC's momma, was Mother Maybelle Carter
Tivoli Skye she was Johnny's mother in law mother Maybelle Carter. Lead guitarist and harmonist of the original Carter Family
Ooh, how i love this tune - this song represents the real soul of the SOUTH 😘

@GrizzlTooth At least we have digital recordings of their songs. Better that than nothing at all right?
