Randy Scruggs did this song in honor of Mother Maybelle, he didn't try to make it fancier or do runs she didn't do, he obvously had the talent too but he honored her by doing it just as she did. It is one of those songs that if you are going to try and do it is always best to do it the way she did it, you can mess it up in a lot of ways but you can't find a way to do it better. We lost him almost three years ago, a really talented man.

I totally agree, lots of great singers and musicans, but also a lot of great writers! (Faulkner, O'Connor, Barry Hannah, Lewis Nordan etc.) The South seems to be the most cultured part of the USA, notwithstanding its history of (racial) violence. Maybe this view comes easier when you're from Europe (I'm from the Netherlands).
The north had and has a history of racial violence. Rocks were thrown at integration buses in Massachussetts, black people cordoned off into ghettoes of poverty, violence, and police brutality, and the North is where all of the racial riots are. The history is readily available for anyone who wants to know the much harsher truth than South=bad and North=good.

Bob Dylan hailed from Hibbing Minnesota. Randy Scruggs did this song in honor of Mother Maybelle, he didn't try to make it fancier or do runs she didn't do, he obvously had the talent too but he honored her by doing it just as she did. It is one of those songs that if you are going to try and do it is always best to do it the way she did it, you can mess it up in a lot of ways but you can't find a way to do it better. We lost him almost three years ago, a really talented man.

I totally agree, lots of great singers and musicans, but also a lot of great writers! (Faulkner, O'Connor, Barry Hannah, Lewis Nordan etc.) The South seems to be the most cultured part of the USA, notwithstanding its history of (racial) violence. Maybe this view comes easier when you're from Europe (I'm from the Netherlands).
The north had and has a history of racial violence. Rocks were thrown at integration buses in Massachussetts, black people cordoned off into ghettoes of poverty, violence, and police brutality, and the North is where all of the racial riots are. The history is readily available for anyone who wants to know the much harsher truth than South=bad and North=good.
