I bought a Traeger Ranger for Christmas. I got very frustrated with it at first but, after a few weeks I love it. Yes, the temperature is all over the place but, it's cool here in Florida currently plus, when you open the lid the temp drops like a hammer. Nothing you can do about that. Cooking 101. My biggest struggle was the fire pot kept running out pellets with the hopper being completely full. Turns out air pockets were developing in the pellet hopper over time. I over came this by emptying the hopper, priming the grill with one cup of pellets ONLY, then adding two more cups, then igniting the the grill. I also use a long metal rod to keep the pellets close to the opening of the auger every time I open the grill and add pellets as needed when check on my goodies grilling away. Finally, I love this grill because it fits perfectly in my travel trailer garage storage. I can easily take it everywhere I go. Happy New Year Y'all.
I'm picking one of these up tomorrow. I'll watch this video a few times to get familiar with mine as I go. It'll be my first pellet grill. I've been loyal to my egg, I feel like I'm cheating.
Just sold my Weber Performer charcoal grill and Brinkmann electric smoker. We’re empty nesters and I am seriously considering this model of Treager. We wouldn’t need anything larger for just the two of us.
I was gifted one of these a while back. LOVE it. The only issue (and it's rather small) is that in my experience, if it's windy out, the temperature tends to jump around a lot when it's on low temp. for long smoking. I think 'maybe' it's because the volume of air inside is smaller in relation to larger Traeger's and it gets 'changed over' faster. It also might be a combination of that & that it doesn't have the chimney, and the wind gets into the louvers easier. It's not a deal breaker for me, but something to be mindful of in windy conditions. Overall I love it and I haven't messed up a cook yet, and I'm a terrible cook, so that's saying something. LOL.
Great review! Looks like the small size would work great for city living too. I was a little worried about the size not being enough, but everyone seems to say it does the job.
I’m new to Traeger and I’m glad to have found your tutorial easy to understand and can’t wait to grill. Mahalo from Hawaii. Rox p.s. you remind me of my dad…
Excellent job on explaining the Ranger. I looked at one today and thought it over a little but was in kind of a hurry as I had lots to do. But after watching your video I am going back soon and buy it. I subscribed to your channel as soon as video was over and look forward to more from you. Thank you.
Great review! I just purchased a Traeger Ranger and enjoyed your overview. My only question is how do you carry it around? It's not light, and without side handles, it seems like it might be difficult
Have you used it in colder weather, i found that if you get a welding blanket to cover the top of the grill it will heat up faster in weather below 32 degrees, i put a pizza stone on it, you will have to cut a little notch for the heat probe put it does not effected at all. I have cooked on it with the blanket over it in 10 degree temperture. I have grill grate but i have not tried them yet will move them from my other grills. going to smoke some sturgoen on it this week
I bought the Traeger Ranger last fall. Love it! Perfect for smoking and reverse searing stakes. Planning to do some ribs this weekend if it will warm up enough.
This is most likely a stupid question, But I've never had one of these! Do the pellets auto release when they are getting low? Or is it a manual deal? Whilst cooking I mean
Great review!! I wasn't sure if it would work for me because it's small. But it's exactly what I need. I never understood the reason for an unboxing video!!
I turn the grill on high and put these amzn.to/3R1VdvF grill grates on the grill to heat up. Put the meat on at a 45 degree angle for 1:20 sec, turn 45 degrees and go for another 1:20sec. flip and repeat.
Thanks for the great overview! One question: Can you reset the desired temperature by the up/down buttons AFTER you have started the Traeger, or do you have to restart completely?
I'm looking into purchasing a grill but it has to be small. I'm grilling for one person only, me. So my choices have come down to a Hibachi grill or the Traeger Ranger. I'm leaning towards the Traeger because I prefer not to deal with charcoal. Like I said It's intended for one person and maybe only occasional usage.
So would you buy the Ranger or the Tailgater if you had to choose one for a family of 4 and almost daily cooking at an apartment balcony. Considering cook space, ease of portability and design. I like both of these to have at home and also take camping. The ranger looks cooler and easier to move around but feel like tailgater is worth it for bigger cooking space
1ST BEOTCHES! Awwwwww it's so cute. I WANT ONE! Sandy, I was thinking about doing a whole hog. Would you recommend this little guy for that. What about some brontosaurus ribs like Fred Flintstone? Haha. All kidding aside it's good to see you again commander.
I noticed since your first video with the tailgater you have the new controller. Is that better than the other one with the knob. Will traeger update any old ones? I just bought one and noticed it had the old knob style. Thabks in advance.
I'm fascinated by the whole pellet thing. I am not sure how that works from box to hot plate. Great review. I have an apartment balcony and am thinking of getting one of these to grill out on the balcony.
Hey Shawn! Did you end up getting a pellet BBQ for your balcony? I’m also thinking about getting one for my balcony so I’m curious if you did and want to share any experiences? :)
Don’t have one yet but we have a bus and usually cook outside. Does it have to be on a heat resistant table when cooking? Do you always cook with the lid down?
Looks like you are doing a great job of keeping your Ranger clean. I've seen a few photos of Rangers that looked like cesspits of grease and creosote! Any notes that you would like to pass along on proper cleaning?
Dude how many grills do you have? Great review thank you. I'm looking for something small but killer that I can use on my apartment patio and found this video.
Very little Mark. I just posted a camping video last night if you would like to check it out using Ironwoods on my porch trailer. I believe the power usage is 360 watts for the first 4 minutes until the hotrod cuts off, then drops to just 50 watts. Thanks for the question.
If your not able to unbox something this may already be a little advanced for you.
LOL! 😂
I never did understand the unboxing thing. Doesn’t help me decide whether I want one

@matteng1448, Lol, you said it.
"IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO OPEN A BOX, THIS MIGHT BE A LITTLE ADVANCED" haha great review! Thank you sir.
Haha! Box opening videos are such a waste of time.

Eric Bent that’s good to know Eric. I haven’t cooked with it on a windy day yet. Maybe a makeshift windscreen might be in order. 👍🏻🍻

Great review! I just purchased a Traeger Ranger and enjoyed your overview. My only question is how do you carry it around? It's not light, and without side handles, it seems like it might be difficult
I used the flat griddle without the drip tray and grill grates. Set max temp and wow a perfect seared steak everytime
Thanks for sharing. Great explanations. Just got one
Great review Sandy, hope you are well brother!
That would fit on my coffee table and I could sit on the couch and cook.

How do you use it when camping out in the bush? Or campsites without power hookups? Or even tailgating, for that matter.
