I bought one of these 3yrs ago for Christmas, but branded under the "Country Smokers Grill" name. Been a fabulous little grill/smoker and I use it for damn-near everything. The hopper lasts me for several cooking sessions. Have only used it once with my camp trailer, but just bought a Bluetti EB70S and will be using it while exploring more often. I'll pack it, a tent-cot, a small table, cooler, Coleman stove, awning, and a hammock into my Samurai. Roof rack will also bring the kayak or paddleboard along for the ride.
FYI the copper top is the Gen 1. The black top is the Gen 2 sold at Lowes. Gen 2 has an updated controller to maintain temps better, has a pellet drop, can open/close the searing slots without taking the grill off and a few other differences. So the cost difference isn't for the color.
I've got a series 3 put boss and love it. Hanging sausage is great. the vertical is great for that . Done so much with it so far. Gas BBQ just sits now lol.
Just found one brand new sealed in the box at Salvation Army $40 bucks! Plus I have an EcoFlow Delta Pro I will be running it off. Thanks for the tips in the video. Haven’t been to Whiskey Town since the mid 90’s. Many memories up there.
I am glad that I found your video on this unit, although it is one year old. I was looking at buying a Pit Boss portable, and now they have the battery powered portable, but the price is ridiculous. ($499.00) I have owned a Jackery Explorer 500 for many years and love it. It is powerful and lasts a long time. I charge it with my Solarsaga 60 solar panel (Or if I need to, I can charge it at home with AC power). My thought was to buy this Pit Boss portable and use my Jackery Explorer 500 like you did here. I wouldn't worry about drawing too much out of the So-Gen because I can charge it with my solar panel. The big draw of the power is the start up, but once it is started, the auger takes very little power to run. (I like the idea that you can disconnect the heat source, I would use a small propane torch to start the pellets if needed) Since your cool video has come out, Pit Boss has changed a few things on the portable. Seeing this video has helped me to make a decision, I am going to go to the store and buy the Pit Boss portable. By the way, I live in Woodland just a few miles from you. (I'll send you an email from titaniumhen)
Dude you should check out Grilla Grills or Recteq they have the ones that are heavy duty SS parts and the Recteq temp gets over 600 and they can be table top or use the built in folding legs and way more cooking area because the hopper doesn't take up any of the cooking area
Good video. I just looked at one of these. I cant use a normal size one for a few different reason. Doesnt look like alot of useless space was added to this model. Thanks for the vid
Yea I put mine together today had a weird noise I noticed when lowering the temp down after the burn off. Think it is the same sound your talking about guess that’s normal I hope so because I bought my cousin one for Xmas. Haven’t cooked yet going to Tom.
I have a full size traeger and tried it with my jackery and what I noticed is once it's up to temperature it uses a lot less juice to maintain its temp
@@FortuneOffRoadso from this video... do you still unplug the igniter when camping out in the hills? I know this video is a lil old.. but this lil pellet grill is just the right size for me. Good review vid!!!! 👍
Can you tell me your exact model number as the new ones dont have the nice side handles yours have would like to see if i can buy them as a replacement part and add ! Thank you great video !!
@@Scoopy2022 You positive about that? I had the Asmoke smoker about a year before pitboss had that in their lineup. Also remember that Pitboss is also made in china and its SUPER common to just order product with custom badges on it and call it your own.
I have ran it with the igniter for 6 hours and it worked great. I haven't seen how long before it dies. a little bit of gray area since it was charging pass-through with solar too
You never warm a smoker with the lid open and you don't unplug the heating element while it's heating ether... it will shit off what the unit is up to temperature... just a word of advice
I didn't do either one of those things though. I had it open while starting the first few pellets like the manufacturer recommends, then I turned it off while I disconnected the heating element. I agree, normally you wouldn't do either. This was a first test trying some new things. 👍🏻

Sounds like a good setup. I use mine at least once a week at home too!

That makes more sense
For $150 on sale right now I think it’s the better deal from Wally World ONLINE
$128 now
I just bought one for the RV Canadian Tire . they matched Walmart price at 378.00 cdn

I'm checking it out!
I went and got me a pit boss just like you have and mine came with a meat probe in the box’s when I opened the box’s last night to put it together
Awesome! I think you're going to like it. Don't ever use the highest temp setting! I tried that and mine went up in flames.
Whiskey Town Lake is one of my favorite places ❤️ so beautiful
Mine too

Thanks! This smoker works great I use it at home a lot. Perfect for small batches like steaks
That looks like a really good time, you are going to be the pit boss on offroading trips!
Yeah dude!

I used mine a lot now and the fan pulses below 350*. Works great!
I’m looking to buy one of these just wondering, can you put charcoal in it to barbecue or is it just a smoker? Thank you for your response.
This one is just a smoker

I love my pit boss pellet bbq/smoker at my house. Great brand and great price point VS Treager. I was hoping to see some guns 💪🏼 I see the dumbbell
Those are for my wife, I can't lift those heavy things. 😉

The link in the description will take you straight to the amazon product. Everything you need should be right there! Thanks for the feedback!
That was the first thing I did ! Take a look at your link the model shown has no handles on the sides like yours .. Thanks
Good info on the Pit Boss...have a full size one at home. Great pellet grill. Will check out the Jackory...thanks Kyle!
I wonder how much power a full size smoker uses... 🤔
Ha! Thats just a slightly tweeked Asmoke smoker. I have the Asmoke and its awesome! Its also cheaper. 10/10 can reccomend the Asmoke.
The Asmoke is a 100% chinesium knockoff, made in china, lol. The Pit Boss Tabletop is the "Original" that they copied from!
@@Scoopy2022 You positive about that? I had the Asmoke smoker about a year before pitboss had that in their lineup. Also remember that Pitboss is also made in china and its SUPER common to just order product with custom badges on it and call it your own.
Have you run another test just using the self start to see what the consumption is? I would assume the fan runs harder at the start.
I just use it with everything connected now and it still uses about 15-20% depending how big the steaks are or how much chicken is on it. Works great!
I had the Traeger portable wore it out! Have a RecTec now.:)
Have you ran it on the jsckery 500 with the igniter and everything on see how long it runs before the jackery is dead?

@@FortuneOffRoad thank you!
Wouaw magnifique 😮❤
What exactly was the issue with the fan in the beginning?
The fan was pulsing and I wasn't sire if it was supposed to do that. It turns out it was a normal operation.
It’s been 7 months. Any updates coming soon? Did you track Run time on the power station for longer cooks?
I've only done short cooks on the Jackery, but have done 10 hours at home. I should do a follow up!
Do u still get the smokyness from the pellets?
Oh yeah!
Check out the new Halo battery-powered Pellet Grill.
I will, thanks!
Why didn’t u sear the steaks?
It was my first time using it, so I was still figuring it all out. I sear them all now!
What is the song you used ?
No idea! That was a free one from UA-cam creator studio.
@@FortuneOffRoad thank you .

The manual and website says leave lid open on smoke setting for first 10 minutes to preheat. Then close lid and choose cooking temp.
Think I'm buying a jackery 500 lol.
This smoker literally just caught fire and died 2 days ago... be careful!
@@FortuneOffRoad from using that power station or using it too much , how'd it catch fire ?
Great video!! but for god's sake, get some tongs
Can't go camping without forgetting something critical! 😅
@@FortuneOffRoad hahaha, indeed !!!
It nearly doubled in price
Lame!
Lame grill for camping
No way, this thing is awesome!
Don’t all pellet grills run off electricity? I wouldn’t necessarily put that in the con category
True, but not all smokers are pellet. I smoke with a weber go anywhere, which uses charcoal
