If they came out today they would be torn apart by Batman fans. The films had the luxury of coming out during a time Batman was kinda stagnant within broader media so it could get away with so much more than usual.

Actually, it didn't exist. Batman Forever didn't start out as a Tim Burton project. It was always Joel Schumacher's baby.
According to an interview with Lee and Janet Scott Batchler on Superhero Stuff You Should Know, Tim Burton's only involvement with Batman Forever as producer was to hire his friend Joel Schumacher as director, and help out hiring The Batchlers to write the screenplay.

Well, the guy's dark style, the comics that inspired the tone (The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns), the decision to make the bat-suit all-black and the gothic/art deco design of Gotham city have all been a part of most batman-projects since. Visually, Burton was a PERFECT fit for Batman

He and his team definitely deserve credit for legitimizing Batman to non-comic book readers. Since I wasn’t around in the 80’s I didn’t understand the context that to many people Batman was just a joke because a lot of people thought of the Adam West in relation to the name. So for those people this was their first time seeing Batman as a creature of the night.

I’d love for Tim Burton himself make a sequel comic. I know there’s already a comic written by the original 89 screenwriter.
But those comics are basically “what if Sam Hamm made the Batman films”. I mean a lot of Sam’s original ideas from his treatments made it in the comic.
It’s why I think the comics are just an alternate timeline of the Burton films.
(Edit): will you at some point make early development videos for the Burton/Schumacher Batman films?

    • @jalenjohnson1662
      @jalenjohnson1662 7 місяців тому +5

Exactly. Hamm’s script for the first Batman was heavily altered in spots by Burton and Warren Skarren. In some instances I thought it was changed for the better. So yeah it’s not really representative of what Burton would’ve done.

I'm so glad you're putting many of the film's urban legends and myth to rest. Every time there's a video about this subject, it's always the same, and no actual source to proof if it was true. The only project that was connected to Batman Returns was the solo Catwoman movie. And unlike Batman 3, there's actually a script written by Daniel Waters in 1995 that anyone can read online.

As a kid of the 90s era I didn't hate Returns, but it was definitely aimed more towards adults. Too much sexual innuendo and graphic violence. Cartoon violence didn't bother me and I liked the Animated Series which had some mature themes. I liked Burton's Batman and Keaton's Batman is one of my favorites, but Burton constantly messed up the villains. Joker being Batman's parents' killer, Penguin being a mutated sewer circus freak instead of a classy mob boss, Catwoman literally having nine lives. Nobody takes into account what weird changes Burton probably would've done to Riddler or Two-Face if he got the chance. It's similar to his canned Superman Lives and how he was going to make Brainiac a head with a robotic spider body who was conjoined with Lex Luthor for most of the movie.

    • @evanzaremba4722
      @evanzaremba4722 6 місяців тому

He never did both Two-Face and Riddler, because Joel did them, and it's a really great take on both Two-Face and Riddler. I like Jack Nicholson as The Joker, Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face, and Jim Carrey as The Riddler.
If Tim ever did Riddler, he would have Johnny Depp in the role.

Actually, it was Joel Schumacher who wanted Michael Keaton to come back to play Batman, Rene Russo to play Dr. Chase Meridian, and Robin Williams to play The Riddler, with Joel and the Batchlers tailored the Batman Forever script contribute to Williams. Sadly, it wasn't meant for those three actors, and Val Kilmer stepped into the role of Batman, Nicole Kidman was Chase Meridian, and Jim Carrey was The Riddler.
It was also Joel who wanted to do Two-Face, and he only wanted Tommy Lee Jones for the role, and it worked.

WB keeps making great live action movies then doing a 180°. Christopher Reeves first Superman movies then they went to 💩. Same with Keaton’s first 2 & the DCEU. They botched BvS, SS1, & JL. While also (probably) redoing minor changes to other movies like BoP & WW84. Delayed Black Adam & Flash for years & had multiple writers & directors.

Looking over the fragmentary ideas that commonly float around about Batman 3/Continues, I've created a personally ranking from most to lest likely to have made the movie if it had happened
    1. Michael Gough's Alfred and Pat Hinge's Jim Gordon
Both Returned in Forever without Burton's involvement, so they seem like they were staying on no matter what.
    2. Michael Keaton Batman/Bruce Wayne
He was demanding a 15 million salary and merchandising rights for a 3rd Film, but I think He and Warner would of come to some agreement if Burton stayed on, as Keaton seems to have left due to being unhappy with "Schumachers" (i.e. the studio's) vision not because negotiations broke down.
    3. Riddler would of been the Villain
Though Robin William's probably still would've been pasted on the role due to His agents demands, I think the character was all but destined to appear simply because the Studio wanted to do Batman's 4 biggest villain's from the 60s show (Joker, Penguin and Catwoman were all mandated by the studio).
    4. A secondary antagonist
Janet and Scott Bachelor stated in an interview with Superhero Stuff You Should Know that the Studio wanted to do this again (hence Two-Face was the secondary antagonist to Riddler in Forever), so it seems certain Burton and His writers would of had to do this as well.
    5. The Bachelor's could of still written the Film.
The events that lead them to the project seem to have had nothing to do with Burton or Schumacher's in put, so they could of written an early draft of the script (though it likely would of been greatly rewritten as Burton likes having His mates do that on all His projects)
    6. Robin may have been introduced.
While I'm uncertain of Marlon Wayans of getting to play the character (or more specifically the "Kid" from early drafts of Return's script) as He was actually the second actor to be cast as Robin (Irish kid actor Ricky Addison had been cast as the OG Dick Grayson version for Batman 89 but was cut from the Film and hence Wayan's was casted in His place), I still consider this possible if the studio had pressured Burton.
    7. Billy Dee William's probably wouldn't return as Harvey Dent or Two-Face
Sadly this seems like a non-possibility as William's had already had His role cut from Batman Return's and at the time He wasn't a big star and given the studio always wanted the biggest names to play villains (hence Schumacher had Billy Dee recast/whitewashed with Tommy Lee Jones) I think He wouldn't have returned even if Harvey Dent/Two-Face was featured (which I think is unlikely and another villain would of filled His place)
    8. Catwoman probably wouldn't return either
Again, this just just wasn't going to happen, as whilst popular, it seems the studio wanted to do a spin off instead of including Michelle Pfeiffer version in a future Batman sequel, (said spin-off eventually got produced as the god awful unrelated Catwoman Film with Halle Barry) and this was still on the cards when Schumacher made Forever and probably if Burton had directed instead
    9. The Duality thing would of gotten ignored or muddled
Burton just never seemed interested in exploring Bruce Wayne/Batman as a character and even if the Bachelor's did present Him the idea with Him as Director, I think it would of gotten ignored in favour of exploring the Riddler instead. I say this because in Returns, which Burton had more creative control over, He decided to explore the Penguin and Catwoman rather than Batman.
    10. Scarecrow was never even considered
This is the complete bunk idea of the list as it (like the Continues fan name for Batman 3) never existed and seems to have been born out of a miss conception that Brad Dourif was approached about doing the character when in reality He was simply one of the actor's Warner came to about doing the Joker (i.e. bait Jack Nicholson) back during Batman 89's production.
I think this should be a good enough ranking, fight Me on it UA-cam 😉
