I'll be working at Download this year and will be my first time there. This video helped to check again what I really need to take with me, thank you!!
Rewatching this, but don't worry if you forget things he's mentioned or struggle with it. Fat Franks is genuinely quite good and always has good stock of things like covers, airbeds, pillows etc. Good video though and helping me massively with packing this year
Thanks for this mate. Im going to my first one in 2024. Do you have like a google doc with your full list of packing stuff? It'd be awesome to build around that if youve already put the work in
I'm an International traveler. Is there a campground of "furnished" tents or cabins to rent, already there with cots and bedding? We did this at Wacken, rented a tent that was ready to move in.
Only thing I can’t square away is the parking deal. Planning to get there for about 10ish. I’m quiet camping (old bloke 🤷) and pretty sure I need to get to west car park. But don’t know how far it is to the camp site. Doesn’t look too bad. Never camped at DL 🤦♂️
Have watched you since last year (our first Download) and found your tips for camping very helpful. Lovin the film clips in between especially as most are from my youth. Btw I thought you were much younger than you said you are - good genes!!
Great video, Simon. I work on wristbands so can I just echo your tip to screenshot your ticket? Mobile signal goes to SHIT in a crowd and if you're ever queuing to get in I guarantee the reason is because someone is trying to load up their ticket with no connection.
Along with the baby wipe washes, to help with pit stink, bring some anti bac wipes, or use a bit of hand gel, as it kills off some the bacteria that will make you stink. Also a small spray bottle, you can find the ‘foldable’ ones in like garden sections in Poundland/wilko, so you can wash your face and body with a little water. Dragging stuff to camp? My biggest tip is make friends with someone uses access camp so you can go with them. We get to drive onto camp and unload 😎 One silver lining to my medical problems hahaha.
It depends which carpark you end up in but I would say its a half hour average, but getting in will take a few hours as its a sell out its gonna be super busy, so make sure you wear comfortable shoes, you'll be on your feet for a while.
Cheers Simon! This will be my 11th Download, 4 camping and 7th in caravan. Very sound advice on essentials to bring. Slightly different for me being able to stock up the van, but i remember my 1st Download, i think it was 2012. Metallica, Prodigy and Black Sabbath were the headliners and the weather was horrific all weekend and in the build up to it. I wish there had been a video like this then! Although i don't think there was a coop then? I'll keep my eyes open for you! 🤘
Cheers Simon, video was really useful! Pleeeaaase don’t say you think this download will be a wet one 😩 this is my second download (last one was 2010 and it poured down towards the end of AC/DC and we ended up going home early!) Would be nice to see a video covering the site layout when the map gets released, maybe recommendations for campsites etc. I’ll say hi if I see you about 😄🤘
2010 was a good one, sorry! I hope it doesn’t rain but I have a feeling, I will be doing a informative video about the site once they release the map, it’s changed massively since 2010, you will be surprised 😂
Careful w paracetamol in the morning I took 3 when I woke up then forgot and drank 300/400ml vodka in next 1h-1h30 and was smashed then felt really ill
Thanks again, gave me a couple more ideas for things to do. I'm being dropped off at the festival and then left, so I have no car to go back to for round trips. And because of that I'm gonna try to pack as light as I possibly can while also having everything I need. I'm... planning on just using a pop up tent, hopefully that does me good. As for the camping chair... honestly knowing me when I've got down time I'm probably going to be curled up in my tent with the covers down on my own 😂 not the most sociable. But hopefully I eat my words and find some fun people who get me out and talking to people. Also stupid question..😅 I ASSUME that everyone will be sleeping the night of the 11th and leaving the morning of the 12th? Since it says 5 nights on the ticket and leaving on the night after a day of bands seems unlikely. Just making sure haha.
Yeah deffo pack light, see if you can get a cheap chair or borrow one, if it’s nice weather you will wanna sit outside, a lot of people leave Sunday night but we will be staying till Monday morning as we wanna watch all of Slipknot and have a few drinks.
Last year I didn't queue at all, arrived about 2pm Wednesday. But who knows this year with a sell out and with the four days, so now more people will go Wednesday. But hopefully they will also put on more staff.. no one knows! 🤷♂️🤣
The refresh retreat gold package is £70. Over five days and including the locker which includes charger ports that's pretty good value for me. I showered last year at the end of the day between arena and village, never a queue at midnight 👍
Been going to Download since 2006 and never once taken Wellies with me. Decent waterproof boots, a rough and ready trainers and decent socks have always served me just fine. Been blister free, dry and comfortable every time. I guess there's always someone who's an exception, maybe I've always been lucky!
Its my first time this year! So stocked! 5 nights camping. So yeah, thanks for making this video, its helped massively! Oh, with you mentioning its going to be a wet one this year, i think its going to be the complete opposite with a scorching weekend. Fingers croseed eh?
I really hope you're right and its great, we had great weather last year and it normally never happens two years in a row that's why I'm predicting a wet one.
Oh man that opening weather comment! Turned out to be the hottest download on record 🤣
Hahahah, I’m pointing out this exact bit in the new video lol
I'll be working at Download this year and will be my first time there. This video helped to check again what I really need to take with me, thank you!!
See you at download!! Great video. If I close my eyes I'm listening to Simon Pegg.
hahahaha, not the first time I've been told that. thank for watching

The edits are great lol. "Thats right buddy, you show that turd who's boss!" I need to watch AP again
Early weather forecast says Sunday is a washout. Rest of the days are dry.
It changes all the time though
Get those waterproofs ready
Thanks for this mate. Im going to my first one in 2024. Do you have like a google doc with your full list of packing stuff? It'd be awesome to build around that if youve already put the work in

Awesome cheers 🤘🏻
Can I get some intel from you all on smuggling contraband booze in? How militant are security? Any tips on taking cans in?
thanks for the video, what are whellies shoes? whellys? do you mean rubber shoes?
Very useful video for first timers like me. Thank you Simon
Absolutely brilliant info 👍🏼 Will hopefully say hi when I’m there

Glad I could help! 🤘🏻

Hopefully some of these helped, it’s gonna be a great year.

@@simon_bond appreciate
Great video Simon! Think everything is ready to go just need to pack the rucksack in a few weeks. 🤘
Thanks! hopefully some of this was helpful

Does the 5 day camp ticket include arena ticket? Thank you 😊
yes it does, you will be able to go to the arena with the wristband you receive when you arrive :)

What about if your traveling by coach
Hey Simon I want to go next year but me and my friends don't have a car would we be able to take stuff on a coach
Great video, Simon. I work on wristbands so can I just echo your tip to screenshot your ticket? Mobile signal goes to SHIT in a crowd and if you're ever queuing to get in I guarantee the reason is because someone is trying to load up their ticket with no connection.

Like the spray bottle idea! Yeah carrying stuff is the worst but about it.
Thanks for the video ..how long is the walk from the carpark to the campsite?

I don't think the paracetamol was entirely the problem there with that amount of alcohol 🤣
@@MaxGriffinJames definitely the paracetamol 😂
One thing that’s also available is rentable portable chargers at the festival, they’re about £20 and you can go and get a new one every day 👍
Thanks again, gave me a couple more ideas for things to do.

@@metalguru85 Yeah I'm definitely planning to try and be friendly, just don't always have the most control over how open I feel.
drop the skincare routine!! ur skin is always glowing 🤩
thanks! I'm all about that cocoa butter
I have an I phone how to I put my tickets in the wallet please? X
31 days till were home 🤟🖤
Buzzzing!!!!
They've said screenshots won't be accepted, however ya can add it to gpay wallet
Don't get a trolley. Crap when it rains. Get an army 110ltr black grip bag. More than enough room then just carry your tent.
Yeah I decent bag is always a must!
How many hours should I at least expect to be waiting in the queue before I'm able to enter?
Last year I didn't queue at all, arrived about 2pm Wednesday. But who knows this year with a sell out and with the four days, so now more people will go Wednesday. But hopefully they will also put on more staff.. no one knows! 🤷♂️🤣
its gonna be major busy! so get there as early as possible but will be at least a few hours waiting to get in and then finding somewhere to camp.
@@simon_bond I'm not camping. I have a day ticket
Are the showers there good? I don’t want greasy hair but I’m not gonna shower if they’re gross
They are so pretty decent, having long hair I always think about using them.

that is extremely lucky! please bless my feet this year hahahaha
Just a warning, I've heard they're not accepting screenshots of the tickets/QR codes!
Never heard of anyone having issues, guess just add it to Apple wallet
Hey, I work on wristband exchange. Screenshots are completely fine :)
May I suggest dry shampoo for us long hair bois
Baby powder also works
Lol that prediction of yours didn't age well haha
I almost died of heatstroke, was fun though!
Have you ever stayed in ready to rock?
I pack lighter and lighter every year 😂
