Leading with your head is the easiest way to get paralyzed in football

Some of these are definitely unintentional, but intent doesn't matter in targeting rulings

Almost each one could be justified as penalty or not. It's still such an evolving rule, getting better each year.

In addition to the 15 yard penalty, If the foul occurs in the first half, the player is disqualified for the remainder of the game. If the foul occurs in the second half, the player is disqualified for the remainder of the game and the first half of the team's next game.

They adjusted targeting so that if you lead with the crown of your helmet, regardless of whether or not its helmet to helmet, you'll be ejected. The rule is meant to protect all players involved. Some of the scariest football injuries over the years have been defenders who get their neck pushed in from a tackle. At all levels of football, heads up tackling is instructed. If your eyes aren't on the ballcarrier throughout the tackle, you're doing it wrong, and it may lead to serious injury.

Not allowed helmet to helmet contact bc it causes a lot of injuries including long term injuries. When we are young we’re taught to lead with our shoulder not our head bc you don’t wanna break your neck or have cte in the future 😂😂

Target calls help keep these kids not become paralyzed or concussed. Although I grew up in a fun era of football where these hits would be allow. I’m 100% on board eith why they aren’t.

The targeting call has good intentions but I still think half of these are just good hits.

You can get targeting holding the ball but it's uncommon. Usually it's the person making the tackle.

2:00 He was ejected because he hit the receiver with his forearm.
As a defender you can’t assert your own head, shoulder or forearm towards another player’s head or neck.
Basically anything from your body as a defender from the chest up came hit anything from the opponent from the neck up.

Most of the time you can get away with going in with your helmet if you are hitting in the stomach or the legs. But if you lead with the helmet and hit someone helmet to helmet, in college it's an easy decision. Don't usually get ejected for it in the pros unless you have multiple infractions in 1 game. But you can get fined big in the pros for it.

Aidan, in the laste five years, targeting became a penalty. Before that what is currently targeting waws not only totally legal it was encouraged.

Coaching staff should be responsible, as well. Either you have a rogue player that coaches shouldn't let on the field, or an poorly trained player that coaches should've trained correctly. Or you have a corrupt coach.

Contrary to what you think Aden, punching someone with a helmet on still hurts. You can feel the impact of the punch, especially these guys lift weights all the time, and will deliver a hard punch.

The targeting rule is new and still confusing. They implemented it because of all the brain injuries, and the new understanding of how they happen. A lot of people hate it, I personally think it was the right thing to do.

    • @LuxRoyale

Not all that new, been in all major leagues for well over a decade. There have been changes/additions to the rule however.

There are NO "brain injuries". That is pure media, sensationalized nonsense. No player in the history of American football at any level has suffered from brain injuries. Stop the regurgitated lies.

It's for the safety of players that these rules were enacted. Too many concussions kids getting paralyzed. College football is really cracking down on this.

Targeting is usually called on a defensive player launching for the head or on late rough hits. Some of these are subjective and others are more clear. Its not so much intent as it is the college leagues and lower leagues trying to remove dangerous hits from the game. A targeting penalty should in my opinion be laid on the coaches in some way as in a lot of cases the player thinks theyre doing the right thing when theyre not.

Contrary belief and what you see. Your never supposed to lead with your head. Quickest way to get paralyzed. If you ever see good tackles it’s usually shoulder to hip.

If a player is ejected for targeting in the second half he must sit out the first half of the next game. Like clockwork, every season a bullshit targeting is called on LSU’s best defensive player in the second half of the game before they play Alabama. There’s a long track record of favoritism towards Alabama from inside the SEC offices.

Aiden hit the nail on the head with his reaction to the first clip! Yes, the player with the ball always lowers his head when getting hit. This is why the targeting rule is hated by so many. Why is it ok for the offensive player to do this religiously but the defensive player gets ejected from the game for doing the same thing? Tackling in the game has become extremely difficult because of these rules. They’ve basically taken big hits out of the game. Frustrating for sure

The targeting rule is garbage and needs to be changed same with the helmet to helmet rule in the NFL. If the ball carrier or receiver lowers his head and the defender is going for the waist and the defender hits the offensive players head it counts as helmet to helmet or targeting. They need to change the rule and if the offensive player lowers his head first to try and run over or to fall down the defense shouldn’t be penalized for it. With how fast the game is it’s impossible as a defender to change your momentum if the ball carrier lowers his helmet last second. They should penalize the offense in those cases if they actually cared about player safety. Sadly the offense gets away with everything in college and NFL and playing defense now a days is non existent and extremely hard with all the new bullshit rules they have added over the years.

Love this channel but the younger guy always seems rude, ignorant, disrespectful, or just judgemently just about every video from ones about US military where he insults soldiers to sports where he questions, judges, n laughs at players. A few times you can look past it but eventually it’s just annoying to the point where it not enjoyable to watch
