5:32 I've used the "Heart of Gold Though" line on numerous occasions! Oddly enough I never watched the movie, only saw the advertisement with that line.
I remember seeing this film when I was young, and I specifically remember the bit the cockroach monster coming out of the cupboard being a great scene. A well done scare with some great set up. I also remember the ending being well done too. But even though my memory of the film is far from perfect (I completely forgot the Vietnam stuff or the scene with the kid), I remember liking it for being one of the few horror films where the hero has some common sense, and I like that the film didn't cheap out by having the monsters not appear whenever there was witnesses around.
this is one of my favorite movies, I love the montage set to 'you're no good'. I got so excited by this movie, its like Jacobs Ladder. I think he is withdrawing from Valium (its prescribed as a PTSD drug) in the movie and its making him hallucinate.

8:25 as a kid I always felt sorry for the fish... (yes, "House" was amongst the first Horror movies my mum allowed me to watch. Maybe 8tish years old. The second first though, because more humorous I guess. Also "Critters" and "Gremlins". Introduced me to the genre, and I loved them, and was always hungry for more 😆)
Encase anyone is confused about the House being haunted, the aunt being haunted, and Big Ben using the house to trap the kid. The house is like a portal to the netherworld. And anyone who is holding a deep dark secret, regrets, or trauma involving death will unwittingly open the p[ortal by being there. My guess the aunt was probably haunted by her husbands ghost. Main guy here haunted by Big Ben.
I remember seeing this and some Friday The 13th the same year when I was eight or so. Friday The 13th made me raise my eyebrows while this movie have me nightmares.
Kane Hodder, who was the stunt coordinator for the film, is known to horror fans as the one who played icon Jason Voorhees more than anyone else, four films total. Director Steve Miner also directed Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981). Sean S. Cunningham, the producer, produced the Friday the 13th movies, and Harry Manfredini wrote the music for this and the Friday the 13th movies. Aunt Elizabeth, played by Susan French in the movie, is referred to as Mrs. Hooper. A possible nod to horror icon Tobe Hooper. This film features Steve Susskind of Friday The 13th Part III, and Ronn Carroll of the original Friday The 13th. The movie's poster featured a disembodied hand ringing the doorbell. This does not occur in the film. Harry Manfredini did the music for Friday the 13th. You can hear similarities in the music cues of both movies. Sean Cunningham and Steve Miner are both associated with Friday the 13th series, Steve Miner would also direct Friday the 13th part 2, Friday the 13th part 3, and Halloween H2O. Steve Miner couldn't get producers to take him all that seriously after his work on the first three Friday the 13th films, but they were pleasantly surprised that this movie turned out to be comedic. Young Robert is played by Steve Miner's son. He spent the next decade being recognized on occasion out in the real world.
I actually really enjoyed this movie when it came out. When I was a kid I liked horror movies like Nightmare on Elm St, Friday the 13th, some of their sequels(not all), and Hellraiser. But I stopped caring about the horror genre, and just stopped caring for them almost entirely. House was always just good fun though, it didn't take itself too super serious. Even though I didn't think about it when it came out, I would describe this movie as like a horror movie for kids. I mean there really isn't anything in there that is 'scary' with maybe the occasional jump scare. But what is weird about the movie, is that it tries to go down the spooky horror flick route early on, then at some point it just turns into a pseudo comedy, and even though it tries to go back into the 'scary' category it never does. It is in a weird spot, I wouldn't call it a horror movie, and I wouldn't call it a comedy, I honestly wouldn't know what to call it to be honest, never really remember anything like it, but I enjoy the movie and think its a good watch, especially if you are a person that really isn't into horror but still like sorta scary stuff. The only thing I can think of that comes close is Army of Darkness, but that movie is on a whole other level lol.
I personally see this film as more of a fantasy adventure farce that happens to be a horror movie like Army of Darkness. This was one of the reasons I dug the Hell out of it when watching the film for research. Good comment overall.
Idk I was born in 82 and the "Pig Lady" what I called her. Scared the shit out me. But now ofcourse I love all that awesome 80s horror my sister forced me to watch.
I agree with everything you said. This film was only mildly scary. I would label this as a supernatural thriller comedy. I completely lost it at the swordfish on the wall scene. It was too funny, one among many. And yeah, Army of Darkness is on a whole other level. It's actually scary, plus funnier.
Brandon tenold here to do next. Alien vs hunter. Troll hunter. Snake on the train. Giant axe wrath of paul bunyan. Primal rage 2018. Power rangers movies 1995. Dinocroc. Dinoshark.
When I was like 5 or 6 years old our spare tv was only good for watching VHS. I watched this movie and the movie Dolls over and over again when the main tv was being used by grown-ups.
this is when movies had legit bangers as soundtracks instead of pop music. The effects were practical. Seeing these as a kid set my standards pretty high. No wonder the overuse of weak CGI and LOUD music has no effect as an adult.

Damn, this looks AWESOME, and like it could've been a huge source of childhood trauma if I actually got around to seeing it.
Glad I'm not the only that noticed the Power Rangers reference lol
I honestly didn't see the Rito Revoto similarities until Brandon pointed it out within the video itself! And I drew the damn thing!
@@Enshohma the first thing i thought of when i saw him as a kid, was that he was supposed to be the guy from house. (But im a big fan of this movie)
5:32 I've used the "Heart of Gold Though" line on numerous occasions! Oddly enough I never watched the movie, only saw the advertisement with that line.
You always make me laugh 😂 you’re my favorite! ♥️
I love Brandon Tenold his videos are really cool and I just subbed to you Gabby 😊✌️
Can you review the north korean godzilla knock off.
Pulgasari.
Do house 2. Lol
Dude, your catchphrase is my life motto "Eh, I'm sure I'll get to it eventually"🤣🤣
Japanese House next please...and of course, more Godzilla
What is this Godzilla you speak of? All I've ever heard is copyright claim by Toho.
HA! Your title card instantly made me think of the skeleton soldier guy from Power Rangers. Glad I'm not the only one :D
I honestly didn't see the Rito Revolto similarities until Brandon himself made it in the video itself! And I drew the damn thing!
@@Enshohma It's just the whole thing of a skeleton in an army helmet... My mind always leaps to obscure nostalgia when I see things, and this was no different.
Post-Credits...
"What do you mean my son was blown up!?"
"Sir, please, we're already far enough away from home."
"This "Roger Cobb" has insulted our whole house! He shall learn to fear...Master Vile!"
House (1986). I watched this movie on TV in the 90s.
I love this movie! Saw it as a kid and tanked the whole thing, even though it scared the hell out of me.
I want to see the Japanese one!
Hell yea my fav movie ever but house 2 is a close second
No mention of Creighton Duke playing a cop? Also if him and his kid lived there and the kid is basically the same age, shouldn't Harold have known him?
Or Alan Autry(Bubba Skinner on In The Heat Of The Night tv series) playing the other cop.
@@pl180000 I knew they looked familiar.
Maybe Harold only moved in recently.
@@tombates9122 he was talking like he knew the old lady though. Idk
I thought that was him.
Thanks for giving" this some attention, I saw it during its theatrical run, and f'n loved it! (and it was a frequent VHS rental afterward)
8:25 as a kid I always felt sorry for the fish...
(yes, "House" was amongst the first Horror movies my mum allowed me to watch. Maybe 8tish years old. The second first though, because more humorous I guess. Also "Critters" and "Gremlins". Introduced me to the genre, and I loved them, and was always hungry for more 😆)
I love this movie. This was probably the first horror movie my mom "trained me" on... I've been a horror movie fanatic since a young age :D
I grew up in the 80's so I love this film...ahhhh nostalgia 😁
I saw this movie as a little kid. It scared the crap out of me! Never knew the name of the movie. Thanks for reviewing this movie!!!
I dare you to review Pink Flamingos.
I remember seeing this and some Friday The 13th the same year when I was eight or so.
Friday The 13th made me raise my eyebrows while this movie have me nightmares.
I love your videos keep it up!!
Thank you Brandon and Kyle. I’ve wanted someone to review this movie forever.
17:47😂 when your wife found out that you're cheating on her hahahah
Anyone else notice that he knew the name of the he man figure he was holding? This has been bothering me since I noticed it 3 days ago please help...
Lol do them all and call it a "House Party" XD
After meeting Rodger the cop from 10:00 went on to tell people how to kill Jason just a few years later
😁
Absolutely fantastic, please please do the sequel!!!!!!!
"House 2" is goofier and it is PG-13. Still fun, though.
I like to think Big Ben was Principal's Kraft's cousin from Sabrina the teenage witch
*mentions Richard Moll; no mention of his role as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in BTAS*
He even puts on the two face voice for the ghost
if you havent seen the Japanese movie house, its a must watch and is absolutely freaking INSANE.
Holy heck, William Catt was in the original Carry! I completely forgot that.
