  • In this video upgrading the stock carb on this honda xr150 with a pwk 28mm carburetor. Gave the bike a lot more torque and power!
Update had to change the jetting after riding it. It needed a little bit more fuel.

Great video! I swapped the stock carb on my Philippines spec XR 150 to a PZ 27 using the stock airbox and hoses. The bike sat for awhile when I returned to the US for 7+ months and now it's running like crap. I'm sure the gas is bad. I like that flat slide carb that you're using! We don't have the charcoal canister or carb heater here & we are able to reuse the throttle cable because it comes right out of the cap without cutting anything. Is throttle response smooth all the way up to top revs? Did you stay with the included jetting? Where are you in the US. I'm at sea level here outside Manila. Once again,a well done, no nonsense video! 👍
Update: I found the same carb and intake manifold that you used. Still looking for the AF. What did you change the jetting to in your update? Thanks

The two wires going to the carb. Goes to a carb heater. The choke is on the other side.

Hi all XR150L owners , The new carb sounds great but what carb is it and a link and parts number would be helpful , the carb boot number also would be nice along with the new air filter .
And how much did the upgrade costs $ . And last was top speed improved and hill or wind made easier with more torque .
Thanks for the video . Please add your thoughts and comments .

I will add the links of the parts i used. The carb made a huge difference in mid range/high rpm. Gained a ton of torque tru the whole rev range. It does burn a lot more gas but its way better. Im in Florida no real hills here but with wind it doesn’t loose its speed. Definitely worth it. Total spent was about 100$. You will have to play with the needles and jetting to make it perfect. Found this out after some more testing. Can post the needle and jetting settings used if you want them let me know.

I would appreciate your settings, it will give us a good starting point , I am under 200 ft. , so that's good for me . I am curious as to the boys in Portland testing a 222 cc. Cyl. Big bore kit . with a cam . Sounds fun .

Did you have to bore out the intake side of the motor to 28mm for the carb to work or did you literally just bolt it up? I want to upgrade to carb on mine.

As someone looking at this bike to purchase, what's the difference in power that you'd get in changing the "jets" in the carb'
verses adding a whole new carb? I get that this is an upgrade but I'm a linear guy....lol, I try to put numbers to paper so it's
easy to see the difference? I've seen several people change the needles but you're the 1st I've seen doing this. I expect it
to have a different sound & smoother run but do you know what the claims on this carb are, increased power wise?
I'm sorry to be a pain in the butt, I like seeing the upgrade & I'm thinking about the bike so all this is important to me.
    thanks & peace

Wat'z Up Aston, I'm not an expert on bikes but since I don't have much money I don't mind researching & asking a
lot of questions.... The idea of a new bike w/o any broken stuff that I can't see is a good reason to buy this. A new
bike ain't like a used one that they didn't take care of. That said, this bike has been around in S.America/Asian
countries for a lot of years so it's a proven reliable bike unlike the crappy Amazon/Chinese stuff for $2,000, you
get this one for $2,800 + Dealer Fees($3,500) total. There's really nothing wrong w/ the carb on this bike except
it will die on you like as you're leaving a stop sign if you don't give it lots of gas. Same on trails, in low gear you
have to do a lot more gas/clutch to keep from stalling & that's why everyone talks about doing the carbs. This
bike is not gonna get much more power no matter what you do & there is a big bore kit(piston & head) that'll
make her a 220cc bike but even w/ that upgrade you still won't be carving up the Interstate Highways. This
little bike is a town bike & you can safely ride her on a 60MPH Road but even then I'd let cars by you if they
wanted by, you got the right to a lane but best to let em' go by you to be safe. But in town she's got enough
to get ya where you're going. The carb fix is changing both JET's inside to a little larger to give more fuel
but you don't have to do it & it doesn't make the bike faster, just keeps ya from stalling her which you'll
learn to do anyway. You can open the airbox & fix the carbs all for cheap & it might get you a little more
but not much & you really don't have to do anything right away. The 1st things I'd do is get a better set
of tires & if you ride 70% on roads, 30% on trails, buy a decent tire for a 70/30 ride but only after using
the ones on it for 2k miles or so. Overall, it's a good bike that'll get you around for cheap & that's why
I'm looking hard at her. Also, when ya get ready, look for last years model b/c it will be less money
for the same damn bike. Honda ain't doing major upgrades to this b/c if they do it's mess with all
the Emissions & they are competing w/ Chinese Bikes that cost less so they don't wanna go to
high. I'm an old guy looking at this bike b/c she's light & reliable, don't need much upkeep so ya
ride her for a few yrs & leave it on side the road. Not really but she's a good bike for 1sr bike.
Let me know if ya buy one? peace

28mm is too large for the stock bike. It’ll work though.
At 6000’ with a 30 pilot jet and a 135 main, it’s too rich at idle and actually wants a 25 pilot. (Also cold air intake, ported intake and exhaust, de-restricted exhaust)
28mm is recommended for 170cc-190cc. I have 222cc now and it’s still rich with a 28mm and 30 pilot. 30mm is recommended for 222cc. I’ll be able to give an update on jet sizing with a 30mm here soon. Upgrading the carb doesn’t really gain top speed, just more power in each gear.
The 222cc definitely allows for higher top speed and hill climbing power. Need to test different sprocket ratios to test for higher top speed. An upgraded cam and heavy duty valve springs would also really help.
