    Yup I made this mistake with my South Aftican Boerboel. Now when I get out a treat he automatically lays down before I say it cause he only learned that I want him to lay down before I give him something…. Idk how to fix it now other than teaching him to come up from it and then go back down if I want him to.

    Question, how do you introduce the verbal command once it’s perfect with the food lure.

    • @kimberthegsd_615
      @kimberthegsd_615 2 місяці тому +3

      Do ur food lure while saying it. So basically just continue luring and then add in the command when your dog is ready. That’s what I do with my German shepherd :)

    • @1packatak
      @1packatak 2 місяці тому +1

      Initially lure the dog while saying the cue. Fade out the lure until the dog is working from the verbal. Depending on the dog, this takes hundreds of reps. Be aware dogs learn in pictures. So when you start to teach something, teach it in one place. When that is good, then move to another place. The kitchen is one place the living room another the back yard another- you get the “picture”. This is why it takes many repetitions to train each command and make it rock solid with a dog.

    • @user-tc7ex9od8y
      @user-tc7ex9od8y 2 місяці тому +1

      Say “whatever your going too name it” then lure for example “down” then lure don’t repeat it constantly just say it once

And also doorways at home with jumpin and pushing. He was trained to do that as home defense but doesn’t understand that grandparents and kids need to not be bombarded when entering the home. Firstly i must say that i ❤❤❤ your videos and your lessons !!!!
    Secondly, i am seeking for an advice: i had dogs my entire life, dealing with: from poodles to traditional Chinese shar pey, border Collies (and for a short amount of time Huskey- foster) . At the moment i have an adopted mix male (first male dog i have ever had) of about 9-10 years, who does great with other dogs and pups.
    Me and my husband are looking at moving next year at country side- aprox 3000 sq m. And we're looking at getting a cane corso female ( my choice) and a border collie-working bitch (my husband's choice-he had 5 border collies at his farm, and remained the breed of his soul). What would you advise? Which one first? So that, due to their personalities not be put down by the other breed?
    Thank you so much and.. keep doing what you're doing!!! You're absolutely great❤ i just wish people would go through your videos before deciding to get a dog !!!

    And the best part? If one verbal isn't working, it's always easy to change it up because they already know the command in hand signals!
    My (almost 1 year old) Belgian Malinois got really bored with English commands, or he really just didn't care to listen anymore. I noticed the other day he was paying really close attention to my shows I was watching in Japanese. So I started talking to him using Japanese words i knew. We've tried English, we've tried Spanish, but NOTHING has grabbed his attention like Japanese. Sometimes you just gotta find their language! Apparently he's confused about what country he lives in, but i don't mind. I live in a city where very few people are likely to know Japanese, so it works for us.

    • @AmericanStandardK9
      @AmericanStandardK9  2 місяці тому

      If you do it wrong, like you did, it will work it will just take "20 weeks" and not just a few sessions or days. You can paint your whole house using paper towels also. Dipping paper towels in the paint and using the paper towels as a paintbrush, it's not the right way to do it, it's messy, won't look as good, will take longer but you can technically get it done that way. I would choose the better, smarter, easier and more efficient way though.
