I know I'll probably get slack for this but I don't care. My Aunt died recently and for a song to be played at her funeral, I asked to play this song. My Uncle said whatever you play, she would probably love it and so I did. Now people say that this is a love song (even Tuomas say it is) but I thought it would be fitting because she was the love of his life. When it was finished family and friends came up to me and thanked me with tears. They wanted to know who it was playing and I told them it is my now favorite band "Nightwish" the band that saved my life almost 5 years ago. My Uncle said the song made him feel at peace and filled his heart and soul with her. Never underestimate the power of song it can do wonders!🌹
Tuomas wrote this for his Father following his passing in 2021 - it's a tribute to and celebration of a life well lived, for those that lit the way ahead for us. I personally think it may be the most beautiful song I've ever heard, simply perfection.
I agree, even though we all live by and for the bombastic floorgasms that she's been giving us for years, Floor's lower register is as magnificent and beautiful as the rest.
This is another Tuomas Holopainen masterpiece. He only keeps on getting better as his talent and vision matures. Absolutely stunning. This composition is as deep as the Marianas Trench and has more layers than a baklava. It is exquisite. I'm 73 and I am the last man standing in my family. I am the last of the Dorrity line. So this performance runs deep, cuts deep. I understand the feeling of loss, yet I still live with hope and intent. No small thing to live with intent. Nevertheless, Floor's voice and this composition is akin to an emotional depth charge to the heart. There is a tenderness and vulnerability there that I have not heard before, and it just breaks you. And her face, good Lord, her beautiful face so expressive and adorned with nothing save her heart and soul just melts me to my core. And her gestures, so tender and expressive tells a story onntheir own. I am not ashamed to say that this staggeringly beautiful composition and the meaning behind it makes me want to cry on Floor’s shoulder. I’m sure she would understand. The poetry of this song is also heart-rendingly exquisite. It is a poem, a prayer, an elegy. Listen to it. Just listen to it. Tuomas’ poetry can easily stand alone. Some of you get it. Some of you don't. I do, and that's all that matters. Kiitos to all of you in Nightwish for delivering such epic and emotional story telling.
@572Btriode Yes, I see. And thank you for the compliment. My understanding is that it was necessary to pause several times in the production because Floor would break down in tears.
@@WardDorrity Apparently there was the same problem when recording "Our Decades in the Sun", Floor is very close to her parents. She missed the cue and only silence from the vocal box, Floor in the corner in tears. Apparently it moved the whole band to the extent of just making the recording was difficult and it has only been done live as an acoustic number with Troy as they regard it too emotionally difficult for the whole band. The acoustic recording I have seen gives me the impression that Floor had to try hard to hold it together.
Tuomas wrote this one as a tribute and love song to his father as he passed away in 2021. Tuomas also said that this song: quote "Even though this song sounds sad, this song is a love song, a celebration of life and relationships. This is how we hope to get this across to people." The guy singing is Troy Donockley Both of your expressions through out the whole reaction was amazing, ty for that.
Lanternlight is breathtakingly gorgeous ❣️ Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it goes straight to your soul. It’s so fragile and strong at the same time. What a gorgeous piece of music composed by Tuomas and so emotionally sung by Floor. Tuomas said that Lanternlight is a song of love to celebrate live of the people that passed. In this case mainly his dad. My favorite song from the new album followed by An Ocean of Strange Islands.
Tuomas wrote this just after his father died, he said this: Holopainen: "The last song on the album, Lanternlight, might fool you into thinking it's a sad song, but it's actually a love song and ends up on a very positive vibe. If you have somebody who has lived a very happy and a really long life, it's a moment of celebration and not of grief. This is the message we want to send."
Nice. I've had hard past 3 yrs. First my mother passed away due to heart failure during sleep in 2021, then almost to the day ,2 years after my mom, my Dad passed away. He had an aneurysm in his brain and passed away fast thankfully. Then last January 4th my Grandmother died at age 94. This was last grandparent I had left alive. She was from my mother's side. After Father's funeral I had hard time coping but lived day by day and after year and half I finally start to feel normal. Of course I miss them so much still.
Another one of Tuomas' masterpieces. So humble yet so powerful and the whole thought about it. The instruments.. Floor.. Troy. This left me breathless 😮
The emotional maturity in this is incredible. It describes loss, but also moving on and appreciating a life well lived, and looking back at the memories with warmth and peace. Those that leave us are never truly gone. This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard, not just from Nightwish.
Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that Tuomas wrote to celebrate the life of his father that passed away in 2021. For me it empowers us to recognize our connection to nature and one another, ultimately signifying that even in times of uncertainty, despair & sorrow, there is beauty and hope to be found under the glow of the lanternlight. This song is so emotional, that they needed several takes to record Floor's vocals as she started crying over and over again. P.S. Their new album "Yesterwynde" is a sonic masterpiece.
Haven’t seen you guys reacting to Nightwish for a while. Suzy is still as nuts as ever!😆 This song deserves to have a wider coverage because it’s just amazing. Floor wrings every bit of emotion out of the song. Written after the death of his father, Tuomas said it’s more about celebrating his life than grieving his passing.
FYI - Floor recorded these vocals just six weeks after giving birth to Lucy. She said that it was still painful for her to stand at that time. Tuomas allocated two weeks for Floor to record the vocals for the album but Floor bashed them out in six days!
Welcome back. We've missed you guys reactions. Nightwish new album, Yesterwynde, was released in September. Over the summer, Nightwish released maybe 4 videos from the album before the album release. All of them are off the charts. Tuomas headed in a new direction with this album. Listen to the album when you can. Absolutely beautiful. I lost my wife a year ago. Listening to Lanternlight brings so many emotions and tears but it also brings the reality that our memories allow me to go on and I'll be ok. She loved Nightwish and I know she would have loved this song. We're all lucky to have this band in our lives.
Thanks for the reaction to my request. I discovered Nightwish and Floor on your channel and really wanted you to do a reaction to this song. Hope to see more reactions to some of their new songs.
I am so happy to see the two of you again! I have missed you! You need to start reviewing their new album, "YesterWynde"...it is amazing! Now, for " LanternLight "...I am 67 years old, and my sister has an amazing vocal range, and I have asked her to sing this song at my funeral! ( Hopefully won't be anytime soon! ) Suzy...loving the blonde hair!!! It looks amazing...and you're just glowing after listening to Floor! Oh...it's okay to cry to " LanternLight " ...I cry every time I listen to it! Tuomas has become, to me that is, one of the best musicians, composers, etc...and I have put him up there with "Sir Elton John!" And I grew up listening to every LP of his...heck, I saw him in concert in 1973 in my hometown, at the Universities football stadium...that held over 35,000...and there might have been 3000 people in attendance. He was fantastic! My other favourite concert was seeing "The Rolling Stones, " Vodoo Lounge Tour"...same stadium, which had added 25000 seats, was packed, as was the floor of the stadium. There was a bit over 65,000 at the concert!
I simply can't hear this song too many times. Every note is perfect. Floor's singing is sublime and she's beautifully backed up by Troy. The orchestra are fantastic and they are playing a perfect arrangement, while the production team have surpassed themselves. For me this song is like a link between Nightwish and Auri, from whom we are expecting a third album and a tour next year. If this isn't song of the year then there is no justice.
Hi Guys, greetings from UK Welcome back 😊 Suzi did a single reaction to Romanticide and it was a live performance from Wacken 2013 You are going to LOVE the new song "An Ocean Of Strange Islands". When they finally get to perform it live I think a clean set of underwear will be required. Floor shows us how to sing without breathing!
It is the fourth song from the album yesterwynde. It was so great when you are react to the songs " perfume of the timeless " , " The Day of... "and "an ocean of strange islands" ( this is a masterpiece ❤❤❤ ) ! Sweet Greetz from Germany! 🤘🤘🤘

Exceptional, extremely emotional, unique, out of this world beauty. A Masterpiece capital M.
Floor has one of the most beautiful and mesmerizing voices ever to exist!!!!!!!!
This may just be the most beautiful song ever penned by a human being.
This is a new pinnacle of Tuomas' and Floor's talent.
That is the most beautiful song I've ever heard- and I've heard a bunch of beautiful songs
i concur

Indeed if you look very closely at the video around the middle, in HD and a big screen, Floor is in tears.

It has been proven once again that the most beautiful ballads are written by metal bands! 💕 What kind WOW? Deadly! Deadly!
This is already a song I turn to when memories of those missing become too much.
"PERFECTION"....
My all time favorite song
Jewel is no Floor: bite yer tongue, "Foolish Games" girl! This has to be perhaps the best Nightwish song I've ever heard. Gorgeous video, as well.
This hits straight to your soul. 🥹👍

"Lanternlight"
Gone is the hurt, the wait
Gone is the warmth of day
A stray boat saved
Happy memories engraved
On into a velvety night
Beneath a lantern light
Last night brought the heaviest of snows
Melting the songs of old
Tying the boat, write a new one soon
Sending me to the drowning moon
Far above a lantern light
I'm in the light and flood
I'm in the four winds
I'm the waves, shaping pebbles, flawless gems
I am the snow on your palm
I am the secret stream
Moss beneath your feet
I am you who climbed off my back
Not long ago
A sheltered song
In a world now gone
Petrichor
The timeless
Turn loose, the swaying boat
Meltwater, sound of spring
I hear our song now, sung by the free
For a thousand more tomorrows
Of an incomplete weave
To the meadows, I go
I'll be waiting for you
Once upon a lantern light
I walk now toward the trees
I am the secret stream
The night falling at my feet
Into the forest of Yesterwynde
