I was going to have Shoemaker played at mine. Now with your suggestion I will also add Lantern Light. I hope they allow two video songs at one funeral. If not, I will just have to come back and die a second time.
Where do I start 🤷 . Last August my brother suddenly died , since then I am strugling my way trough it . Then I heard this song , it made me cry like I never did 😥 . But I also felt so comforted and peacefull , a glince of hope ✨. I should have know'n , only Floor can make me feel like this , I thank her and Nightwish from the bottom of my heart ❤
I lost my wife last October. I know the pain you have endured. I miss her everyday. At first I couldn't listen to any music because of the memories. Eventually that passed and like you, leave it to Nightwish to show alil light at the end of the tunnel. Here's to both of us movin' on.
Pure Floor. I love this song. Btw, this song was Floor's pick for a single, it made her cry when she first heard it (I had the same reaction to this song, it's so touching). Tuomas lost his father a few years ago and he wrote this song out of that emotion. The message is to enjoy life, as it's beautiful and should be celebrated instead of grieved when it ends. Nightwish is their own genre and no other band comes close to the level they are at. Never, in the history of music entertainment, have a set of skills and talent collided in such powerful manner. Tuomas is a true genius as a composer and with lyrics.
This album is one of there best. This was the last song on the album...and the Nightwish trilogy. I love the direction Nightwish has taken on this album..they are progressing. Thank you guys. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.🎉🎉🎉
This song is new but for me it is already up there with Dead Boys Poem has my favorite Nightwish song. My father passed away in 1998 and I can't help but think of him when I hear this masterpiece. Well done Tuomas and well done Floor.
I am finding, and sometimes slowly that every song on Yesterwynde is a work of genius, of Tuomas' genius at constructing or reconstructing life into song. Kittos Nightwish!
That is absolutely beautiful. As far as NW fans go, what you complaining about you still have one of the current greatest composers and I may be biased, the best female singer in the business. I think you have to realise Tuomas isn’t in his 20’s anymore so his music reflects this. I have heard the new album and I love it. Not disappointed at all. ❤️🤘🎸🎻🦘
Floor is the best vocalist there is out there full stop, who else can sing as brilliantly as she can in any genre NO ONE AT ALL, as for this tune it is a masterpiece TO CALL IT A LULLABY IS AN INSULT TO ALL INVOLVED IN THE MAKING OF IT
@@MikeandGinger That's very honest comming from you. The dept and the meaning of the song you can find in the comments, not in the reaction. The Army is again very nice
This video/song is stunning. Floor strikes deep into the soul---if you let her in. I really like the new album. Yes, it's an evolution of the Nightwish sound, but no one else makes this music. Thank you Tuomas. And Floor? Well, she's Floor Jansen!
Lanternlight is breathtakingly gorgeous ❣️ Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it goes straight to your soul. It’s so fragile and strong at the same time. What a gorgeous piece of music composed by Tuomas and so emotionally sung by Floor. Tuomas said that Lanternlight is a song of love to celebrate live of the people that passed. In this case mainly his dad I guess.
The new album is a superb progression of Tuomas' composition and poetry. It takes repeated listening and some thinking about, so not for those who don't have the time or inclination to make an effort (very common in these days of 30s tik-tok attention span). Lanternlight is the most approachable, perhaps, and currently my favourite but they are all good.
Nightwish is phenominal! This song is an example. The piano composition and Floor's vocals are so moving. It means the world to me because I know how it feels to lose not one, but both parents in one year, 2023. That is what this song is about. Much respect Ginger and Mike. You always handle every reaction with honesty and integrity. Much appreciated. 💞💞💞💞🇨🇦
I'm 73 and I am the last man standing in my family. I understand the loss, yet I still live with hope and intent. Nevertheless, Floor's voice and this composition is akin to an emotional depth charge to the heart. There is a tenderness and vulnerability in her voice that I have not heard before. And her face, good Lord, her beautiful face so expressive and adorned with nothing save her heart and soul just melts me to my core. Some of you get it. Some of you don't. I do, and that's all that matters. Kiitos to all of you in Nightwish for delivering such epic and emotional story telling.
I understand, my father passed from a heat attack at 80 years old, and my mother passed on November30, 2023, at 90 years old. Morning for the loss of ones parents is difficult!
Some people are stuck in a genre, I love the new album, it is typical Nightwish with beatific lyrics, full orchestra as always. It’s a brave and bold move to let your creativity flow. This song is so beautiful, I can’t stop listening. It starts sad, as we all are when we lose loved ones, but then there is warmth and hope. Cherishing the memories you have of someone and accepting death as the end of suffering and a new phase. ❤
"I am you who climbed off of my back." If I've lasted til then I'm a gonner from that point. It's maybe the most beautiful sentiment I've ever heard for someone who has lost a father.
I have to honestly admit that I had some problems with this album at the beginning. I certainly had to listen to it 10 - 11 times in its entirety until it grabbed me. In the meantime, however, it is very high up in my Nightwish album ranking. Lanternlight, however, immediately overwhelmed me emotionally from the first note and became my absolute favorite song by Nightwish.
Tuomas , the band itself and the Queen Floor , make your heart melt. She is Diva! Hurt , tears in your eyes , if you had a loss in your life that hurt you , bad .
Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that Tuomas wrote to celebrate the life of his father that passed away in 2021. For me it empowers us to recognize our connection to nature and one another, ultimately signifying that even in times of uncertainty, despair & sorrow, there is beauty and hope to be found under the glow of the lanternlight. P.S. Their new album "Yesterwynde" is a sonic masterpiece.
i love this and think that this album is their best and ginger is right. It is a new change for them and they have grown as a group and so has their music.
The band has matured. Back in the day with Genesis, we had 'Adult Orientated Rock' well we now have 'Adult Orientated Symphonic Metal'. You also really need to listen to the whole album from start to finish. It will then become apparent.
When bands with a huge fan base, that have been around for decades comes out with a new album, there will always be some of their Fans that are dissapointed that it didn't end up exactly as they hoped for, no matter if your name is Nightwish or even bigger Bands like Metallica. This does not mean that the Songs are bad it often just means the Band are evoving and a Band like Nightwish have never sounded exactly the same sure there are songs/albums that can have familiar styles but if you look the changing over lets say any 3 bands you can certainly hear the difference. And that is just natural as the Artist are maturing and getting new experiences as life goes on. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Album when it came out, but often in Metal you need to hear songs 10-15 times to really appriciate the Songs, and the lyrics, unlike most radio friendly pop 3 min pop songs, that you need to fall in love with in 3 listens, and then after having heard them 10 times you are getting more are more bored with them at least thats the way I feel.
Ginger, I think you nailed it with your comment on new legs going in another direction. The band members are all artists. Artists don't spend all of the time in one place. They are always reaching. Isn't that part of why we love what they do? I for one, don't want Tuomas brilliance to go stall with variations of the same thing over and over agin. I may not always be hit by the same emotions as in the past but how can anybody not be impacted by Lanternlight?
Watching from the UK. I agree with other comments that their other new song,'An Ocean of Strange Islands' has the dramatic Nightwish sound that you enjoy. The album is a masterpiece, and for me their best since 'Once'.
The thing with dissatisfaction when it comes to Nightwish's music is that there is such a vast catalogue of their songs of different styles and few singers, that the band also has very different kinds of fans. Each has their own favourites and this makes it nearly impossible to satisfy every fan with every song or album. Yesterwynde seems also to be not an easy listener. Many of the songs need time to get used to and really sink in. I have found myself thinking every now and then "this is not Nightwish", but then I try to explain myself why and what Nightwish actually "is", and I really dont think you can put them in any box.
This song was written by Tuomas for his father who passed in 2021. I understand it being for my father, who passed in 2011, and my mother who passed in 2023. It's for all of us. I know that I want my sister to sing this song for me when it's time for me to go....she has the voice of an angel! Lanterlight is the last song on this CD...as this CD is the last of the trilogy.. I was listening to the CD in my SUV this morning, and the first few songs are more along the lines of Symphonic Metal! ( which I love!) I have not finished it yet...but I am looking forward to it!
Lovely reaction.! Final song from the final album of the trilogy of Endless Forms Most Beautiful, Human Nature, and Yesterwynde. Laternlight feels to me like someone saying goodbye to family and friends as their life comes to the end. Loads of beautiful imagery in the lyrics of seeing the end, of reminding those we love that we will always be present, of lamenting the unfinished things we leave behind (as is always the case), and then walking "to the trees". Since Tuomas is famous for writing lyrics for multiple interpretations I could also see this song where the narrator is death personified, much like the way the lyrics in Music were. A third way I see it is that the lyrics aren't necessarily about a person but are instead a metaphor for humanity and our walk through the eons of our existence which would fit well with the themes of the album trilogy. A number of references to Auri and other Nightwish songs. "I am in the light and flood" and " I am in the four winds" IMO are shout outs to the Auri songs Light and Flood and The Name of the Wind, very beautiful instrumental that have a similar feel. For me the line "I am you who climbed off your back" gives me Decades in the Sun vibes and of course "To the meadows I go" is tapping into the same symbolism and meaning as Meadows of Heaven. Heartachingly beautiful song and a perfect bookend to the album and trilogy. A beautiful tribute to Tuomas's father and all that are the lantern light for our journey through life. I agree with Tuomas, if we have lived a life of joy and meaning then we shouldn't be sad at the end but celebrate a life well lived. I think this song and Epica's Tides of Time will be the songs for my funeral when I pass.
Ginger you are right when you say the new album is different to former NW Music. I believe too since Marko's leaving Tuomas writes the Lyrics and the Music layers especially for Floor and Troy.
