This video is almost 12 years old and still, to this day, the absolute best bok choy recipe I’ve found on UA-cam. It is so delicious that every time I make it, the family is at the table waiting. I love cooking, and this video makes presenting baby bok choy, very easy. My wife and all five of our kids just love this recipe. It’s rare that they all agree on the same dish, but this one is a hands down first place winner!
I tried this today using a ginger garlic purée and cooking some mushroom in with the sauce before putting it over the steamed bok choy. Absolutely delicious! Thanks for a simple, easy-to-follow recipe!
How cute to see your boys watching you cook! That is a very excellent thing! Not only do they bond with you, but it teaches them self sufficiency! Bravo!
I'm willing to accept garlicbreath for this, it's heavenly! Thank you for enriching our skills :9 b.t.w leaving sugar, and adding spring onions and sesame oil makes it even better.
I tried this recipe tonight and I paired it with rice and tilapia. It was really good! I substitute cornstarch with flour and added more water to balance out the saltiness of the soy sauce. This is a must try! It was my first time to eat bok choy, thank you for the reminder about cleaning it thoroughly, because it really has sand in it. Anyway this is really a good recipe. Thank you for sharing! :)
Looks much easier than other types on UA-cam. I like the sauce and bok choy is so good. Start making it this way - simple! Can't have gluten so cornstarch is a win-win.
I just made your delicious recipe; it came out very well, and I do thanknyou for sharing your culinary expertise. I adore the Chinese way of preparing vegetables. Thank you!
I used to boil the bokchoy every single time without any extra ingredients because I had no clue how to cook it. Today I tried your recipe and I forking loved it! Very easy to make, healthy and delicious. Thank you Chef Jarod. You saved my life.
Made this for lunch today. Absolutely delicious and super easy to prepare. This will be one of my favorites and go-to dishes. I added a few cooked shrimp to the platter before pouring the sauce over. Fantastic. Would this work with steamed Kale as a substitute?
Sorry for the late reply. I think it will work fine with kale... but you will need to steam quite a bit longer, as kale are much sturdier/firmer than bokchoy.
I made this tonight .... OMG !! So tasty. Baby bok choy is now my favorite veggie. This is only my second time eating this veggie. I had no idea how delicious it is until tonight. The sauce is so simple to make but the flavor is terrific. I can put it on rice, beef or chicken and even shrimp ... anything actually. Thanks 🙏 .
Ohhh the great Chef... thts so pure vegan dish..... that awesome dish goes perfect with a balanced cooked rice....n is a perfect meal what satisfies the soul too....
I trippled the sauce and added baked tofu and rice. Very easy and tasty. Thank you ChefJarod! Next time I am going to add the mushrooms and ginger, too...
How did she do? I try to engage my kids as much as possible when I cook, so they can see how food is made at home. That's what I did when I was little, watching my mom cooked every single day of her life. Those memories are part of my recipe book.
Looks wonderful. I am curious what you think the difference would be if you slightly fried the bok choy with the sauce at the end instead of pouring it over. To avoid overcooking maybe just not steam as much. Would that make it more flavorful?
LOVELY! I'll probably add some ginger to the garlic...might try this tonight as I scored a beautifuly bunch of baby bok choy at organic farmer's market yesterday! Thank you for the simplicity of your presentation too!
i could imagine add a tiny amount of finely chopped dry roasted peanuts to this and a touch of lemon juice. looks very delicious. thank you for sharing.
I made your dish today for lunch for my hubby and I we normally share. I placed your dish on the counter and said try it honey. I was given a bite and my hubby ate the rest we loved it thanks
Amazing ! I made mine with blue agave in replacement for sugar and veggi broth instead of corn starch , I also added mushrooms to the sauce . I served it with wild rice and I'm very satisfied, thank you 😊
Crush up some roasted peanuts and garnish at the end is absolutely beautiful. Throw in a few pinches of chilli flakes and it realllyyy takes it on another level
Robin Betts yes I wud def. Doctor up the sauce. An I wud of put the book choy in the sauce pan an not drizzle it over the veggies. He's not a cook. At all. But. It's ok.
Looks good ChefJarod! I just bought a bunch of baby bok choy yesterday and wanted to find an easy method to prepare. I, too, will leave out the sugar, swap out the soy sauce for Tamari, add some ginger with the garlic and top with sesame seeds. Thanks for the inspiration! 👍🏻
I used to stir fry my bok choy but I was really looking for something a little healthier...I found your recipe yesterday and made it last night along side of salmon and my whole family loved it. Thank you so much for sharing.
If that works for you that's great, by all means try experimenting with different sauces etc. I try not to put too much ingredients on a simple dish like this, so one can taste the bok choy and not overwhelmed by sauces. Also, this is a purely vegetarian dish. Thanks for watching.
That's a good question. I think the sauce will be good for marinate. But I have never used it for marinating. I am guessing it will be good for up to a week in the fridge. Definitely fresh is better:)
It was so good and we enjoyed it so much, we bought more bok choy for dinner last night and I tried my hand at cooking it. My sauce didn't turn out as well as my wife's as my garlic browned much faster than I had expected and i didn't have all my liquids in place ready to add, BUT I was able to salvage the sauce. We are preparing it again this weekend and look forward to trying many more of your recipes!!!

LaTisha M Why do we steam vegetables?
When buying vegetables can you pack and save them for the next day?
Looks much easier than other types on UA-cam. I like the sauce and bok choy is so good. Start making it this way - simple! Can't have gluten so cornstarch is a win-win.

Crush up some roasted peanuts and garnish at the end is absolutely beautiful. Throw in a few pinches of chilli flakes and it realllyyy takes it on another level
You're giving me ideas
Delicious and simple. Chicken stock works well in this, as does a dash of rice wine, a drop or two of sesame oil. But it's fine the way it is.
Wow tried your suggestion of seasome oil and rice wine and it added an entire new dimension to the dish- awesome! Thanks

Thanks for sharing your success story. I think bok-choy and salmon is an excellent pairing. Good job, and thanks for trying it out.
Looks delicious and so good for you. Cant wait to try
If that works for you that's great, by all means try experimenting with different sauces etc. I try not to put too much ingredients on a simple dish like this, so one can taste the bok choy and not overwhelmed by sauces. Also, this is a purely vegetarian dish. Thanks for watching.
