Thanks for watching. Cheers
You sir are a phenominal guitarist and you are so humble with it
God, where was this when I was learning it? you're by far the best teacher on UA-cam, better than Marty and Justin in terms of teaching whole songs slowly and easy to understand. Great work once again!
marty and justin dont know how to tune a guitar properly and they push too hard on the cords which bends the neck that also throws an acoustic guitar out of tune so easily.I also change my strings every week.I play lots and wipe ur strings off with a cheese cloth so the oil and bits of skin wont wrought the strings.
And guitarlessons365
GuitarZerotoHero and Guitar At Work are also preety good.
But Shutup & Play is touching my heart with these tutorials. God bless them! All of them!
Bairdogg Marty explains it pretty well though
@@STEAMBOLTANNIE would you send me all that strings please? I think after one week they would be still fine for me!
Whenever I focus on a song to learn, I always pay for all the hard work that is applied to teach me/you. Please do the same. Andy deserves it. He is excellent. Thanks mate, from Australia.
Colin, thanks for supporting what I do, I really appreciate it! Cheers, Andy.
I learned 'Here Comes The Sun' from you and now this. I wish I had a teacher like you 30 years back. Thank you for making the songs simple to learn and yet accurate.👍🏼
You by far have the most in depth yet understandable tutorials on UA-cam. Bravo
Thrilled! I've always been a "picker" and used this lesson to learn the picking pattern shown. A day or 2 of practice and I'm astounded to report that I'm absolutely up to speed, finger-picking with you on this song. I hadn't thought that possible."Landslide" next. Many thanks!
Amazing brother, I also am kinda new to finger picking, you should also try Blackbird and Julia from The Beatles! Those were my first finger picking songs and they really helped setting a solid foundation for other songs such as Landslide, Dust in the Wind, Don’t Think Twice It’s All Right :)
I played guitar many, many years ago, and this was one of my favorite songs. Decided to take it up again, and this brought it all back!!! Thx for explaining everything so clearly...and showing the entire song. I'm on my way!!!
You are an exceptional teacher. Not to mention a fantastic guitarist. Every. Single. Song. You do sounds exactly like the artist. Amazing. More finger picking, if you would. God bless
Hands down you are the best online teacher. I’m not a beginner yet have benefitted when you address beginners. I picked up my guitar to play seriously after 30 years and your teachings have enlightened me and my abilities. Please keep teaching me. If I can donate to your channel please let me know as I have benefitted for free.
Thanks again.
You're the best guitar teacher and best guitar player ever on the UA-cam! No one is better than you! I Love all of your lessons, you're amazing! I hope I can see more of your lessons.
You make it look easy. Thanks for putting these lessons up. I appreciate the effort and time you put into them.
Yes my man you are a good teacher i feel guilty i should be paying for the lessons. I have a feeling your riches come from teaching guitar and watching your students excel even after playing 30 years but still learning something new from you. The right way.
I've put a huge amount of time and effort into making these videos. I like to keep them free for those that can't afford it, but if you can, please support what I do. Cheers, Andy www.shutupandplay.ca/donate.html
I don't know how popular this song is but "soulshine" by allman brothers band really gets me going haha. I personally think it's really impressive how many great guitarists have been in that band.
It's a difficult song to play, especially trying to learn the Travis picking. But, this is the best sounding and best explained tutorial I have found anywhere on the Internet. Great job on doing this, and many thanks for taking the time and effort to do it. I'm sure that I speak for everyone that we really appreciate it!! Take care.

Andy. So clear and concise. I tried learning from another you tube teacher and got so frustrated . Guess I should have checked here first. Got that patern right in 10 minutes. Thanks again for all your time and efforts. Your a star. Take care
Sir, Your video is the CLEAREST instruction video I've ever come across in teaching this Travis Picking song!! I have a student I was teaching and was having trouble getting the concept across to her.... I referred her to this video, and she improved 100%...! THANKS SO MUCH!!!
The content, detail, lesson pace and delivery of your lessons is a perfect fit. Love how you do the chord shapes first, look, listen , learn and enjoy learning. cheers
I hope you really take in all the compliments on your playing and teaching skills. You are the class of UA-cam. Nobody even close. Thank You! Love to see a tutorial on Knopfler"s "Why Worry" when you have a chance. I will always support this channel.
Great lesson. I find the chorus bit going from D to G the hardest as the right hand goes all over the place! I've played (badly) for years doing just simple pop stuff, but I found this Travis picking concept really unnatural and difficult to pick up cos I ignored it for years. But Im getting there very gradually thanks to your detailed and accurate lessons. My advice to beginner guitarists is definitely best to try learn travis picking as early as possible once you've got the basic open chords!
Your lessons are so clear. I'm a moderately competent finger picker and your lessons are really helping me get better. Thanks!
You are the greatest acoustic guitar teacher on the internet. Thank you so much for making songs I didn't think I could play approachable.
Thanks for teaching the quickest way of learning "Dust In The Wind"
I ran into Rich Williams in an airport (well I didn't actually run into him, I was in a wheelchair), but you get the point. He's an incredible guy and spent about 20 minutes talking to me and even played along that he remembered me for the time I photographed the band while they were out on the road with the guys from King's X. Anyway, another great video!
Thanks to your earlier lessons on Dear Prudence and Julia, I was able to pick this one up in about 20 minutes. Thanks for everything! And keep it up!
Thank you your patience and the detail means a lot to some of us
Throwing a couple bucks into the hat now and then probably means a lot to him, too.
Absolute best Guitar Player and Teacher on UA-cam !!!
We are all so blessed !
Thank you and your family for sharing you with us ..
Thanks Dan. I'm glad that you're getting something from this lesson. Please check this out sometime...www.shutupandplay.ca/donate.html
cheers
Dan, thanks for your donation, I really appreciate it! Good luck in the future with your guitar playing. cheers
This could be dubbed into the original studio version & you would never know it,great player/teacher
Another great lesson, gave me new insights and inspiration to learn this one, as hard as the Travis picking is for me. I am in awe of how good your tutorials are. Thanks again!
Best tutorial of this beautiful song on youtube. Once you get this pattern down, a whole world of songs are waiting for you. You're never going back again (Lindsey Buckingham)....
OMG.. i thought my right hand wasnt fast enough, turns out my technique is wrong all this time! Thank you for showing us the right way to fingerpick it sir!
Once again, you really know how to present the song.
Fun to watch, fun to learn. Thank you!
Another beautifully produced performance and nicely paced lesson. The Nashville tuned guitar track works like a charm. thank you for your attention to detail, much appreciated.
Superlative lesson and beautifully performed. Thanks. And playing it "like this" (dead slow) is about how I'll do it for a month but this lesson is a great way to get your feet wet on Travis picking.
You are a blessing, thank you very much for your meticulous content!!!
Just found your channel. I've used lots of guitar teaching channels to learn new songs and I have to say yours are the best I've seen. Just the right amount of explanation without being too complicated or too simple. Good stuff! Thanks
I owe so much to you! Thanks for another great lesson. Every time I want to make a run at a song, I’m convinced it is out of reach. Then I just take it note by note, measure by measure. Before I know it, I’m playing another one of my favorites.
Thanks James. If you haven't already please have a look here: www.shutupandplay.ca/donate.html cheers
Andy
I have to say your the best instructor on you tube. Special talent not only playing but instuctional as well.
Thank you so much for all your help.
Ken Hamilton
You are an awesome guitar player and an excellent teacher I appreciate the lessons.
I just got an ad that says you can play smoke on the water within 10 minutes with simply guitar. Dude. You dont need simply guitar to learn it in 10 minutes.
Lots of great advice in this video. ...One thing i think its important for people to understand is that every once in a while every once in a while it IS ok to practice faster than what you can play it perfectly. This can be a VERY effective tool for building speed, and allow you to advance a little faster....a descent ratio might be - if youve practiced the song perfectly 20 times, try it a little faster than your "perfect speed" once.....but yes 999 times out of 1000 i would give the same advice as whats given here...dont play it any faster than you can play it perfect...its the safe bet to steady improvement.
+Jim Sonic Hey Jim, that is an excellent point. I actually mention this exact thing in one of my other videos. I can't remember which one, but it's a guitar solo video, maybe Anyway You Want it?? I didn't mention it here because I think a lot of folks who are watching this vid are most likely advanced beginner to intermediate players...but it's always good to push yourself a bit here and there. But just like you said 99% of the time playing as slow as you can play it perfect will be the way to go. Great comment bro, very useful. cheers
Great videos. Playing guitar for about 30 years. Im sooo bored with it, and in such a rut, i decided to take up finger picking. Its always hard to be patient when you are watching videos tailored to beginners, but yours are some of the best ive seen...and well, in this sense of playing the guitar, i guess i am just a beginner. Thanks. Looking forward to your tutelage :)
This is probably the best I've heard of this song, with one guitar!
Love the fact you get straight to the point with this vid. Great sound, great execution!
you are a beautiful guitarist and the passion to play and transmit is reflected in yours Lessons and your person. marvelous!!
Fantastic lesson. You really have a natural ability to teach well! Kudos!
i love how you broke this song down ive wanted to learn this song bc it was from my childhood i grew up with this song and now thanks to you im well on the way to mastering it great lesson thank you so much
Thank you. I love how you showed how it's played in the beginning unlike most videos iv seen. Didn't know there was a 12 string behind it all. Still sounds good. Thanks again.
I used to do that with four fingers but Travis picking is way more consistent and enjoyable (actually seems easier even though I'm not used to it). Thank you!
I gotta say you are a fantastic guitar player sir!
Awesome tutorial! It was just too confusing until I came across you, thanks so much. Now I'm getting it the more I watch and go along with you here:)) You teach so thoroughly, making it easy to understand :) thanks again.
Thank you very much. You are an excellent guitar player as well as an excellent teacher. Keep up the great work you are doing.
Great job on tutorial and encouragement to those entering the world of Travis picking. All your tutorials are excellent and very helpful. TX again
I LOVE THIS GUY!!! Great lesson! (bowing motions)
That's perfect. I love how you show how it's done at the beginning. Thank you very much.
You are Amazing Tutor! God bless you.
I have the Taylor Classical electric nice sound , I like the way you play that song it is great,
Thanks for including guitar and strings. I'm in need of upgrade and considering Taylor cutaway or martin. You sure make it sound nice! Thanks for teaching us how to play these off the album.
this song is so much fun for me to play
i almost swore this was the studio instrumental.. you are that good and the quality of your music is great
Easily the best guitar lesson channel on YT. Thank you sir!
Awesome lesson, well explained but one of the simplest ideas is having a black background and a black shirt on so it actually makes it easier to see what you’re actually doing. Cheers and beers
I really appreciate how you teach. I've listen to other videos but you have a way that really makes easier to understand. Thanks Man
Great tutorial, thank you. Your lessons are excellent and, while not for a beginner
for the most part, easy to understand. Very well done.
FINALLY! Someone who just goes into playing! lol. Perfect name and exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
Great lesson. Easy to understand and follow, even for mthis old guy. Thank you.
oh my god! that is beautiful. thanks for this video. ive got the intro nailed and verse nailed now. just the bridge and the ending now.
Great lesson!!!!!!!!!! You are an excellent instructor.
That was an exceptional tutorial. I had most of this down pat but was missing some areas of the complete song. Thanks so much for your detailed break down.Looking forward to now filling in some gaps. Great job!
Dude how come you’re not in the millions of subscribers? Your work is awesome.
Thank you for the great way of explaining finger picking. Excellent teaching.
Hello, I've watched a bunch of videos on playing "dust in the wind" and yours is the BEST.. Home guys move along to slow and some to fast, your pace is just right... I am picking it like a breeze... Nice job.. I want to really get another song down pat, Don't think twice it's alright" is the title, I think it was written by Bob Dylan but best covered by Peter Paul and Mary... The finger pattern seems to be a little different and it's tough to change patterns. Maybe you could teach that song also ?? Thanks and keep up the good teaching.
Such a beautiful melody
You are very gifted as a musician and as a teacher, soo pleased to find your channel!
Best guitar lessons on UA-cam, hands down ! Thank you for all your hard work !
Thanks Keith K. I put a huge amount of time and effort into making these videos. I like to keep them free for all of those that can't afford it, but if you're getting something from them and have the means please support what I do. Cheers, Andy www.shutupandplay.ca/donate.html
Amazing tutorials. I had a question that I am hoping some folks on here can answer. Classically I will play using my fingers on strings 1-3, and thumb covering the base strings 4-6. What I am finding is that on the Dm7 chord playing it this way (41,3,2,4,1,3,2) my hand feels 'crowded' when playing the Dm7 chord. When I play an Am (with similar finger picking of 51,3,2,5,1,3,2) it seems fine and I don't feel 'crowded' or slow. I realize that I could play it with the finger picking from the regular C chord in the beginning, but I am trying not to limit myself to a technique that's easier so that I grow as a guitarist. The reason I like using PIMA fingerstyle is when I play with a flat pick and fingers (hybrid) it transitions better than playing without my ringer finger. Maybe I am being pedantic and silly but looking for help just the same. Thanks!
i had similar issues, honestly just learn to adapt to different play styles. i found knowing how to incorporate my pinky and ring fingers helps a lot with every type of fingerstyle song no matter what technique is used
You are one of the best here on UA-cam man, super well played.
What an awesome lesson!
This channel really becomming my favorite guitar lesson channel!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR TEACHING GIFT WITH THIS MOST EPIC SONG... my DREAM would be to play this half as well as you just did.
This is really neat....you actually take the time to show the finger positions. I'll be sending a donation soon too. I'd also like to learn Suite Madame Blue. Thanks. I am 58 & just picking up the guitar for the first time. All I have is 2 electrics now...but I am planning on an acoustic/electric as soon as I can afford a decent one.
Such a great lesson! You've broken it down really well. Thank you!
Best video on this song out there!! Thank you
Definitely going to add this one. Thanks so much for this awesome lesson. Excellent job!
thanks, great lesson, watched your other videos, great sound , playing. awesome teacher.
Great lesson as usual. I understand he gets very few donations so I paid it forward for one of you out there. Keep up the good work.
Your lessons sound just like the original studio recordings!!! The Taylor Concert acoustic helps alot, but still, you sound awesome.
Best song lessons on the interwebs man, thanks!
I liked with-in the first 65 secs. just before the first ad.
Great sound and beautifully played.
Woah! That guitar is super bright!
Thank you for your teaching
Your explanation of Travis picking helped me tremendously! It took about an hour of diligent practice to this technique to smooth it out.
Thanks man. Check's in the mail.
I like how you teach where snd when the fingers should exactly be positioned.I hope there's a tab for this.
Thank You ! Excellent explanations with slow playing during the coaching, and anticipating efficient fingering across chord shifts.
I agree that this is the best video on this tune, with also a great introduction to correct "Travis Picking" rhythm.
Minor points - the instrumental section with Am9/A, G/A ,F/A etc is only played twice with the violins on the Kansas recording I have.
The "string-fret" system used is a little bit confusing for me (seasoned player). For example, when you stated a "G-7 fingering" at 19:14 , my brain switched over to thinking of a G7 chord ! ooops. Perhaps the double-numerical system might avoid this ambiguity ( e.g. string 3, fret 7 = 3-7). Thanks again.
Simply The Best
very precise tutorial. 1 of the best tutorials. love to learn frm this. great job sr.
this guy just put me in a Trans not many Ppl give me goosebumps you are amazing brother a true talent
