There was a period of time in the early 70s when Cat Stevens was my absolute favorite musician. He was and is an inspiring creative force. Now in my 60s, I play guitar... this lesson is such a joy to find, can't wait to go play and sing Wild World.
Y'know, my man, you always PICK the GREATEST SONGS, to give lessons for, and that's just ONE reason- the MAIN reason, is the QUALITY of your lessons, and the awesomeness of you're PLAYING, that is usually an EXACT copy of the record... THAT'S the MAIN reason- but ANOTHER reason, ASIDE from your awesome PLAYING, is (I know, I HAVE to stop using the word "awesome", haha ) the SONGS that you PICK, are just so freaking GREAT- and THAT'S WHY you're the most Awesome teacher on the internet.... ( I should have capitalized that LAST "awesome"..haha..)
You, sir, are an excellent teacher. Your skill, style, and presentation are completely on point. I wish I could take lessons from you in person! Please keep up the outstanding work.
The way you teach is amazing. I can now play all those songs I’ve always wanted to play thanks to your instructions. Granted one must be an intermediate at least but I can see beginners get better so much quicker under your tutelage. Thank you, you’ve made my guitar sound so much cleaner and made me a better guitarist today and I’ve been playing for 58 years.
Your lessons are great. I've been playing for 2 years now , I'm 59. I recently played at an outdoor festival. I did an acoustic version of Kashmir. Your lesson was a great help. Thank you ! Now onto Wild World !
If you care to watch, I just used your lesson to learn this song and recorded it and posted it. Love your lessons. Worked on this a couple of weeks. I tuned down one half step, to fit my voice. Great lesson!!!
Love your stuff man. Thank you a million for teaching me a bunch of songs correctly. You're the best. 1000 likes to you, for being a great person in helping so many other guitarists.
Tea For Tillerman!!! Great album! It taught me guitar! Father And Son was first song I learned. Then learned the whole album. Still play the songs today
Recently started playing acoustic (been playing electric forever) your videos are the fast lane to learn some tunes I knew as a kid. First one was Time in a Bottle now I'm hooked. Truly awesome teacher, gets right to the point. Thanks man
I’m doing the polar opposite, acoustic for 35 years, sitting looking at the electric as I search for my first lesson! This guy is the best on the web, period! Good luck brother!
i know Im randomly asking but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot my account password. I love any help you can give me
@Elon Prince I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Your a wealth of knowledge and exceptionally good at passing that on. Thanks bro, you've definitely moved me up a notch or three. The devil is in the detail !!! Keep it up..... legend !!!
Thanks Samay. I make my tutorials available to everyone for free because I don't like excluding those who may be facing financial hardship. Music should be available to all. Thing is, nothing is really free right? I put a huge amount of time and effort into making these videos, so please only consider them as "free" if you just don't have the money... but if you can afford it and you're getting something out of my lessons I ask that you make a financial contribution. Here's a link to my website donation page: www.shutupandplay.ca/donate.html Cheers, Andy
You do everything spot on my friend, wearing the black and the lighting on your guitar makes it so clear. No doubt the top training I have seen on UA-cam. Jerry's Guitar Bar is good too but he doesn't play the song through at tempo like you do. You thought this out very well, excellent instruction.
Sir, that was so good, i enjoy your explanations, you have a different style of explaining the notes and chords, thanx for being there and sharing your talent.
shut up and play helps me polish up songs and add them to my play list as notes to share at future open mic sessions that I might attend, so he is mr wonderful in my opinion because of the excellent teaching skills here, ill shut up and play now.
I found that the f down scale was simple with the f pattern bottom string open alternating lifting off and on, also the part with 2 guitars that he explained was doable with one guitar in the full c pattern, but he is a genius letting you figure that out for yourself so if you only have the one guitar you can still make this great sound he teach!.....do the g turnaround in with the first finger on the top string and do the lick with little finger worked great for me, thanks!
I just wonder if you read these messages. Really appreciate the work you did and continue to do. Your channel is absolutely insanely informative with leaks, riffs, and strumming patterns. The name of your channel " Shut Up and Practice" is incredibly fitting. Have been watching from the beginning and practicing along. Don't have any questions or reasons for saying this....lol I just want to express my admiration for your job and bow for the lessons without funnels to sale something.
Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I’m learning some old favorites that I never knew before. If only I had learned them in high school. I might have gotten a few dates as a result :)
Very Noice....Thank you sir....Been playing a short time and procured a new Martin D-18 and love the tone and this song, sounds great thru it...Thanks again, finishing up Over the Hills and Far away.
Thanks for sharing your talent. I went to McMaster School of Music and Your pure talent excellent ear and patient clear delivery considerably futher my education .Thanks again
I have become a big fan of your videos I don't have an ear for music but find my way easily on the fretboard. Through your videos I learn the songs faster. So far I have done run to you and every breath you take. Could you please do minor swing by Django Reinhardt?
Great as always Andy. The new camera is good, but on my PC the guitar is a little too loud compared to your voice. Love your precision and accuracy, and yes, Cat Stevens guitar work has always been nice - good choice.
Zappa fan, huh? I knew his short hand secretary Susan Rubio in the early 80's so got some of the first Barking Pumpkin label promotional records and saw him several times at the Berkely Community Theater in the 80's.. I likw youe atyle of play and llok forward to more good choices from you, thanks.
