  • Tyler Hoover's BMW X6 M is a complete beat down mess. Jonny discovers that a salvage engine was installed and had been slapped together to get the car to auction.
    Is it savable? Either way, it will always be ugly.

      Can't imagine Johnny's level of disbelief. Even I was pissed looking at that level of BS in that engine bay. The salvaged number still on the engine tells me they didn't even clean the engine, that's how fcuked up whoever previously touched it ... and to think that they get paid to do that is WoW!!
      I've seen those level of BS in the 90s when the guy that work on it came from another country as an illegal migrant. Can't read or write bcoz never went/finish school. Have no work permit, insurance or social security hence low self confidence to learn/ask anyone afraid that he might get found out. Can't even speak basic English.
      The guy that hired him and the foreman that was supposed to monitor his job are worst. They probably got the money to start the buisness but very low IQ on how to run it and getting the job done right.

      when I was contracting and I had to "undo" a mess left by someone else I did add in a PITA fee. (pain in the a$$). Hoping the customer would balk but a lot of times they'd say "ok, that's fair go ahead" lol.....A LOT of the times if the customer was on a short budget/ nice people I'd get them involved and make my life easier.

      I think he buys cheap classic or valuable cars to try to manipulate the market. If the X6M (example) can be fixed easily, then the market for this model could raise more interest, the car becomes more desirable, and the knowledge about it improves, so everybody wins. Of course I don't think it's gonna be a cheap fix, but you never know.
      The concept is the same of the Top Gear challenges: take 3 cheap but collectible cars, thrash them a bit and see how do they resist, can be fixed etc. The only difference is that they make it all more goofy, but the concept remains the same.

    The twin turbo V8s were way more unreliable then the naturally aspirated N62 V8s. The only biggest problems you got to take care of on the naturally aspirated N62 V8 engines are the 2 pcv valves along with the Valve stem seals and the worst one of all is the coolant transfer pipe.

    • @pascutia
      @pascutia Рік тому +1

      Yup, absolutely no comparison. An N62 will run like garbage for a very long time, as it doesn’t have the fatal flaws that the early N63 has (timing chain guides and rod bearings). Also you don’t have to worry about turbochargers, injectors, electric water pump, and high pressure fuel pumps. BMW bit off more than they could chew with the N63, and they let the customers be the beta testers.

    • @LetsDIYIt
      @LetsDIYIt Рік тому +1

      To be fair, the issues here were neglect and incredibly poor workmanship. I hate BMWs but can't fault BMW, that motor or car on this one. This is all on the previously owners/"mechanics"

    • @MrFlyNikolai
      @MrFlyNikolai Рік тому +1

      @@pascutia The N63 does not have rod bearing problems. Everything else you said, I’d say is correct. Even though majority of the problems, are from bad oil & maintenance. It’s main fatal flaw is bad oil with the timing chain/guides
      High pressure fuel pump is very easy to change, fuel injectors once you have the right…index are fine. PCV valves are easy to change, coolant lines by the turbo chargers…also an inevitable issue
      The N63 dies from bad oil & heat, if you do the correct oil changes…with pre-maintenance and some heat control on the lines & plastics. It can actually last a long time

Many vehicles get a bad name, because of such people. Also, many times, cheap skate clients, does not want proper work done: And yes, sometimes they cannot afford it, but also out of experience, they will rather buy another carton of cigarettes, let someone else mow the lawn, clean the house or buy another six-pack... - I have no sympathy for them. They get what they deserve. The problem is: Next time, that "problem" now becomes yours...

    Kinda love that Hoovie managed to create a car UA-camr hotspot in his town through purchasing terrible beat up vehicles 🤣

    I think I heard Hoovie say this was a Houston car, and I can confirm we have some ghetto shops here that do cheap, crap work. Obviously, there are some really good shops here, too, but they aren't cheap. My BIL had a 98 Merc c280 that leaked oil out of the front of the engine like crazy. He took it to a ghetto shop that said it needed the "oil lines" replaced - I believe they were referring to the hoses that connect to the engine oil cooler - but it was obvious from looking at it that was not the case. 20 minutes of googling got me to the TSB about the notorious "Engine inspection port" gasket leak that was well known. It's like a little plate they take off the front of the engine at the factory to check timing, I think. Anyway, the gasket was poorly designed and lots of people just rtv'd the shit out them to stop the leak. Merc offered a replacement for it with an improved design that costs like $25, so I took of the old one (with those weird Merc torque screws), put the new one one, and was done in about 15 minutes. Couple cans of brake cleaner later, no more oil leak.

    I felt your pain on this, do I really have to go down this road, when the end of the road is still going to be ugly. Take Hoovie's money and run free with it, just don't hurt yourself on another persons whim... I look forward to what you can make of this!
