I actually took his blog post as a bluff. He knows people are catching on that Winds might be coming out soon, and did what he could (mentioning the publisher visit, world con news) to throw some people off the trail to not ruin the surprise! I still believe!!

Rationally there is no reason to do that. If you are close to the finishing line to your book and people are feeling it, you don't kill their hopes, that is just damaging the build up. Not saying he should be building up the hype, just that if he is actually close to be done he shouldn't be saying anything about the matter, let people theorize and build momentum.

Guys, I think it’s time you all faced the truth, we are never getting either Winds or Dreams. I genuinely don’t believe he is that interested in finishing the story or conversely I don’t think he is capable of salvaging it. Everyone needs to just accept we will never know what happens in the books and he also ruined the show by not giving it an ending to adapt. It’s time to move on.

Would be a big announcement to have it at the end of the last episode of HOTD Season 2. They could tease during the last week that there is a big announcement by GRRM at the end of the episode and to make sure to tune in to see it.
My exact thoughts, it would be a “big stage”.
The main point of the post is that he hasnt finished it and that he would announce it in a big form if he did, and wouldnt be dropping hints like you think he is doing. Omg, In 5 years the book might me done. He still has a lot to write.

Hardly upstaging the show. Have you seen the latest episodes, not great 🤦♂️. Also, what better way to keep the audience invested in the GOT universe during another 2 year wait for season 3?

Just imagine....the last episode of HOTD season 2 ends, it cuts to black and then a text appears on the screen 'Winter is Coming'. I would, to put it mildly, die. (And I'm aware this ain't gonna happen but just imagine)
That would kill the focus on hotD. But the thought is nice 😂
And then it's revealed that this whole time martin has been working on a history of the stark kings before the targaryen conquest and winds hasn't even been started yet.

I mean he didn’t specifically deny winds was not coming soon he just said “hey when I meet with my publishers it doesn’t usually mean something big”
probaly means they are telling Georgie too hurry up put a timeline on winds next year maybe thats what I think hes visiting the publishers too give them updates doesnt mean it will be soon
I mean... to be fair I'm pretty sure that George has said something to the effect of "word won't trickle out, there will be a big announcement" in the past.

The Emmys use a non calendar year qualifying window - so only shows that were finished airing by May 31st qualify for the 2024 Emmys. So HOTD S2 won’t compete for Best Drama until September 2025. I hope we don’t have to wait that long for an announcement, haha!
Also, The Bear (counter intuitively) competes as a comedy. So wouldn’t be head-to-head with HOTD in any category.
The Emmy cycle was actually the reason why most GOT seasons came out in April. They wanted it to be the last big show everyone watched and had fresh in their minds right before the deadline and voting. Same reason that was when Succession’s final seasons came out.
We are going to have to wait more that until tje 2025's Emmys
shogun is definitely is gonna be a competition for House of the Dragon on the Emmys
The Bear's nominations are for season 2. Also it's in an entirely different category.

16:57 That's ironic considering Wyverns are DRAGONS WITH 2 LEGS AND 2 WINGS...............the very distinction George was pointing out with the changes the show made to the heraldry of House Targaryen. There's even an interview with George and the actress that played Shae where he mentions how his Dragons have 2 wings and 2 legs because that's how it is in nature as there's no winged beast in nature with a separate set of arms and wings, which is important to George cause it grounds his Dragons more in reality.
At this point I’m convinced that he holds back WoW and DoS till he dies. That would be a big announcement.

Hey, I’m back as far as you guys saying that house of the Dragon is going to win best drama. It’s possible the bear is definitely in the running for that as well but don’t sleep on fallout do not sleep on that at all. That was an amazing show that nobody’s talking about right now because we all binged it but I feel like that show is going to sweep up some Emmys

Is anyone clear on whether the boxset is hardcover or paperback? It certainly looks paperback in the promo photo, but I'd assume they wouldn't change the cover style for Winds of Winter without reprinting the first 5 books in that same style in both hardcover and paperback (much like they did for the first 4 after ADWD).
If these are hardcover it's an instant buy lol, I don't need new copies of these books but I need Winds of Winter to match them on my shelf XD

That said, if you check the dictionary definition of "wyvern", you will find that it literally describes them as "a winged, two legged DRAGON." So...
Dragons don't exist. If an author says dragons in their universe wear lipstick and breed with donkeys they can because DRAGONS DO NOT EXIST.
I think dragon nomenclature is only important in worlds that have multiple types of dragons, then you can differentiate if needed.

Didn't they ask him to fill out the same application as everyone else and for whatever reason he didn't? It's only fair that anyone wanting a slot at a convention has to go through the same process to get the slots. I tend to like George, but if you are requested to fill out an application, just do it.
The new box set is nothing more than his publishers trying to make money, they're waiting on Winds just as long as us. I won't be purchasing it myself, the artwork looks amazing, but it's an unfinished series lmao

If and when 'Winds' is released, people would like to see that on the big screen. The 'GOT' actors have aged a bit, but in all honesty, they could adapt into an animated series with the original actors voicing the characters... Cause what is the point of HoTD and KotSK when all we want is the original story finished.
They will probably end up remaking the entire GOT series after the Dream Of Spring release, which by then would have a whole new generation of actors to choose from
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think he deserves to be at world con if he hasn’t been working on the winds of winter I know there’s rumors out there that it’s done but for the past eight years he’s been focused solely on writing shows for HBO world con is probably like screw you dude you’re not focusing on your book. You’re only focused on grabbing money from studios.
A lot of this is George’s fault. Who gets writers block for nearly 2 decades 🤦🏽♂️ I feel like he really needs to deliver..his legacy will be tarnished if he dies

As far as house gos George's heaviest lisfting is done regardless of the season breakdowns he wrote the whole thing and published it, then the minions expounded and they published it. Now the writers room just needs to parse through it and make the episodes, they can all ways consult George and the minions as needed, but he shouldn’t need to write anything more for this show, he still has about 12 more short stories to produce on dunk and egg, with the show coming up they’ll run out of stories to turn into seasons in like five years or so if the don’t take years off even alternating between it and house, what are the chances they just roll house of the dragon right into the black fire rebellions, george still has a 150 year spanning tome to write covering the back 9 of the targaryon dynasty which will wrap around Dunk and Egg and crescendo 17 years before game and thats still with dream on top, i don’t blame wonder con from refusing him a panel he has a lot of work to do, true his words and wisdoms are worth their weight, but it takes 12 years to finish one book with like eight others to go. I just hope he does to winds what he did to dance and feast but rather it split by location it’s split by conflict and the second half just gets labeled Dream of Spring.

Here’s my insane theory and an observation.
I think he totally told D&D the ending. When he saw the backlash he had to start doing re-writes and he doesn’t know how to get where the story has to go.
…and a quick observation, every single time he has a project coming up he “teases” that WoW is done or almost done. It stirs the fan base and gets him attention. He then talks about his upcoming project before telling the fans that WoW will be done when it’s done and we’re all seeing things that aren’t there.
What part of the ending do u believe grrm told d&d? The seeds have already been sown for the demise of kings landing and it definitely isn’t with dany and drogon lol
@@Sam_Martyn I think the ending of the show was extremely close to the ending GRRM was going to use in the books. I think he saw the backlash and dissatisfaction from the fan base and decided he needed to do rewrites. Only now, he’s stuck. I honestly don’t think they’ll ever be anymore GoT books.

There is a lot of the ending that doesn’t work or apply with the book with the characters alive and not included in the show. I’m sure it’s not terribly far off but most peoples issue with the ending is how rushed it all was. A lot of the specifics of it would work if given enough time to properly develop.

If George is upset that GoT changed something to do with the ending then honestly he should’ve either finished his story and given them an ending to adapt or kept silent. If he is upset at changes to HotD then he should’ve made sure in his contract they have to stay true to his works. I don’t like some of the changes HotD is making, I think they are actively hurting their characters and the consistency of their actions and the writing so I would agree with Martin, but you have to write it in your contract what they can change

I have not watched LOTR, only read the books, and I don't mean to be rude, but there is no question whatsoever that Tolkien would have hated the adaptations. Anybody who knows anything about the man himself or his letters is aware of that.

At this point why would world con give Martin a panel? He has not been a publishing author in a decade and a half, fake histories are not novels, so why wouldn’t they give his would be spot to an author that is planning on finishing his work?

I for one won't be buying Winds.... there is no way in hell GRRM will finish the entire story so why should I keep investing in it... he can F%^@ the straight off at this point...
