  • Super Alloy 1 contains cadmium. A common problem with zinc or pot metal belt buckles is the wear the piece endures after constant strain over an extended time period. These 3 rare 1940s Ford automobile buckles were all broken in the same area--where the steel clasp that hold the belt meets the zinc buckle.
Bob, a MuggyWeld customer, traveled 200 miles to attend an antique car show in search of a solution for repairing these three broken zinc belt buckles. After first approaching the "soda can" repair guys the day before, who advised him this was an impossible job, Bob reached out to Muggy Weld for assistance.
To rebuild his pieces, we used a propane torch and Super Alloy 1 low temp solder. Super Alloy 1 is unique in that it melts at 350℉--half the temperature of zinc die-cast. Watch as the liquid flux turns brown when the parent white metal is heated, indicating the metal has reached the proper working temperature. Then simply apply the rod to the piece using indirect heat to allow the low temp alloy rod to properly flow.
It's just that easy to repair this common problem with a few tools around your home and Super Alloy 1 pot metal rod and flux repair kit. Clean the flux off of the rod before placing it back into the PVC tube.
