    How long did you wait before you started sanding it down cause I have it on right now and I started around 6 or 5 ish and it’s about 11 now

    • @cashhacks3792
      @cashhacks3792  4 роки тому +4

      I waited until it was fully cured, 15 hours. It was easier to smooth it on with my finger and skip sanding. If you have to sand it use a rougher grit like 80 or less

    • @joedirt2768
      @joedirt2768 4 роки тому +1

      So I wait 15 hours instead so it can cure then sand it down, cause I put a pretty good amount on it or wait like 3 more hours then sand it down

    I tried it it worked, I used jb steel first to push it down inside the crack just kept pushing until I got a build up . Sand it down then came back with jb liquid like he had left it smooth finished no sanding. The wheel I fixed held up then another wheel cracked I told him to find a set of wheels. I'd rather have one flat on side the road than two.

    please please please just make a permanent weld. ive done this and J.B. just pulled apart. sometimes this can hold for a wheel that isn't under a lot of pressure but as son as you hit anything that causes a large impact froce it WILL break apart. I race motocross and I know balance and wheel size aren't the same as a car but in the long run fixing soething permanently is always better. J.B. has helpre me at times to just consider your goal!

      The longest lasting repair was 33 consecutive days for 3 main reasons.
      1. After removing the tire and cleaning the cracks to bare metal I filled the crack with JB Weld.
      2. Smoothing it over (not sanding) leaving the most material and letting it fully cure.
      3. Adding silicone at the tire shop.
      I would repeat this process if I had cracked a rim for the first time ir needed some time before replacing a previously cracked rim like in this case.

    • @romeorobertson4387
      @romeorobertson4387 2 роки тому +1

      I think in my opinion, if you grind out the Crack to make a tunnel, Instead of just overlaying it on the existing Crack. In other words drill and grind out the Crack completely and then add JB weld to the rim, smooth it into the valley you've ground out, leaving some residual to sand out and smooth it. If I Crack my rim, I'll try that technique. Thanks for sharing! 👍

    So many things wrong with doing this. Also, the paint thinner you used leaves an oily residue- the only acceptable chemicals would be brake clean or the best would be to use Acetone. As a welder, I can properly weld those fairly quickly, and for a very reasonable amount of money. Not all fabrication shops charge insane money for aluminum rim repair.

    Stumbled across this video while surfing for repair vids. Made it 15 minutes through and had to stop. There is no way this kind of repair held up. When it cracked during tire installation, it should have been obvious that the steps taken skipped a vital one. Professionals would have created space in the crack for the new material, merely pasting JB weld over a crack and sanding most of the JB weld away to smooth it out made the entire process a waste of time. I see an update video in the side bar, let's see if any lessons were learned.

    Good effort but Man!! It's time for new wheels. That car is heavy. Get thicker tires. How much to weld it prosesionally?

      Welding would be more than replacing. Eventually i did replace them but shipping post covid was crazy lol.
