How to Make an Engraved Belt Buckle...and Also How Not to...

- In this video I make a hand-engraved buckle to fit a belt that I bought second hand. I have also tried my hands on making a brass inlay. This buckle is made out of 2x40x60mm brass plate, 2mm and 4mm brass rods for the ring and catch.

you have a fantastic sense of humour. and thank you for NOT hiding your mistakes. showing how you roll with them is a great example to my kids... and me!
^
Like a French Bob Ross for belts
@@samsquatch2281 I think he's an israeli living in germany.
Yes, upside down, and when people ask why, look down and tell them: "Looks right side up to me!"
“Let’s rivet this pigeon” should be a new way of saying “let’s get this party started!” lol
lmao
I like it lol.
"Let's rrrrrrrrrrrivet THIS PIGEON UP IN HERRRRRRRRRRRE!"
*bass drops, lasers sweep to and fro*
Looks good ! The only one in the world!
I want a t-shirt with that
Literally laughed out loud and probably woke the neighbors when you started singing. Love it! Fabulous job and I love your sense of humor!
Dear Uri, thank you for existing.
The pigeon is now in the correct orientation for when you need to look down at it as a reminder of what your logo is (like those cheat-sheet T-shirts).
Love the turntable mechanism.
THIS is why the pigeon is upside down?! 😁😁😁 Love it.
When I am down and need encouragement, I just watch one of your videos and I know I will be immensely encouraged.
First brass bucle i made was upside down too. Been wearing it that way for over 15 years now.
your scrollwork (the swirly plant-like engraving) is inspiring
Great project. To you upside down pigeon problem, why do you not undo the soldering and switch both sides? I know it messes with the back, but you could simply fill the old holes with something and and file it smooth.
Thank you! you're right, it would be a bit messy but definitely doable. at the end of the day I have decided to leave it this way as a lesson and a reminder for me to always double check myself. In this case it's not a big deal but it could be a major problem if I don't pay enough attention in other projects.
i was thinking the same but Im not a pigeon fan so I kinda like it upside down.... lol
Now when you look down to your crotch you see a pigeon so it is how you look at it
@@geroenverbruggen8662 When I was doing commercial electrical work, I would often take notes on my carhartt pants while on the phone and driving without a notepad handy. It was asked of me on more than one occasion why I had all the upside-down writing on my legs. My response was always to look down at the words
umbers, and reply "What do you mean? They look fine to me!"
He made the ring high enough to use again. The little post can be redone.
I appreciate how you show your mistakes and dropping the pieces often because that's the reality of it. Awesome belt, keep up the good work sir!
I am so glad I accidentally (youtube algorithm gods finally did something right) found your channel! I love it! Funny, inspiring and really interesting projects! I do leather works (carving etc) as a hobby and I've started to do more brass/copper stuff too so watching you do hand engraving has been very inspiring. All the best from Finland, can't wait to see more of your videos in the future!
I believe your pigeon is our partridge?
Kidding… but we used to have a show called "the partridge family".
The partridge symbol looked just like that.
Nice job!
Thank you, for sharing!
I love that your logo is still upside down to this day! Way to commit lol.
Love the videos btw
This is the best video I've watched in weeks on UA-cam. You're the best! I feel like I went mining for videos and struck gold.
Uri, your videos have become a calming presence in my life in these uncertain times. You aren't afraid to be weird, to show your mistakes and to be a little wacky. May you be an inspiration to us all.
Uri very nice piece I like the way you inlayed yer
Pigeon , also no detail
Just polished nice touch.
I'm glad you leave the mistakes for all to see.
I purchased a silver buckle & I noticed before
Leaving the silversmiths
Shop the anchor for the belt was on the wrong side. The guy looked at it
An said you see all these buckles( about 20)
In display case .I had to change all of them.we had a good laugh swapped a couple stories how easy it is to make unforseen mistakes.Thats just life
An we learn & move on.
Really good work like wise the small hammer with all the scrolling beautiful. Thanks for the videos & projects you do.
You keep me smiling .
This channel is my most favourite. I'm afraid of running out this videos.
I simply feel you are a true artist who teaches us all the most appropriate level f humility and humor. Thank you so much!
even upside down that pigeon still looks pretty cool
I love ur singing...you make me laugh....love it.Amazing talent.
Your videos always make my day. It’s amazing to see great vision combined with great ability.
noctrnalAndroid thanks! I wish I could make a video everyday to make your day:)
I know this was 4 years ago, but I hope you're still wearing this buckle because it's awesome. And the correct answer when people ask why your buckle is upside-down, is you tell them you love pigeons so much, you wanted it to be right-side-up when you look at it
I could watch your vids all day you're an artist an engineer and a comedian. Upside down or not your work is fantastic thank you.
Also, best ending 👌 and love the cat baskets 🧺 🐈 . . .
Cool buckle! My logo is a pigeon on an anvil "Blue Feather Forge". My grandfather and dad's friends used to race pigeons. I've had a rescued one that I found at work about a year and a half ago. When it was a few days old it fell out of the nest and it's wing tip was run over by a railcar. Healthy, flying and won't leave her new home.
I'm so happy I found your channel. Everything you make is a piece of art. It is wonderful. Thank you for sharing.
DUDE!!! I TOTALLY LOVE THE MUSICAL INTERLUDE and I whole heartedly APPLAUD YOUR COOLNESS!!! Upside-Down Pigeons, All the Way!!! Subscribed!
And this is why your brand is an upside down pigeon!!! I had not seen this video so far and now I finally now the lore!!!
I love your decision to adopt the upside down pigeon ! Its a logo that will be remembered by many. So don’t feel badly!
Thank you for a great video. I enjoyed how you took us step by step and included the mistake, it is part of any project and I could totally relate lol. The etching and final product was fantastic!
Wow! Amazing. I love it. You have a lot of patience and know your art. Thanks for showing us
I just stumbled upon your channel yesterday and I've already watched everyone of your videos. Your creativity is very impressive and mistakes are just a part of learning and improving! Can't wait to see your future projects!
I really appreciate your videos. You are a great inspiration. Thanks for doing what you do.
Dear sir, the word you were looking for when you were trying to say that you wanted the pigeon to be three-dimensional or to have some raised designs on there, it's called "” relief" the word you're looking for is " relief"..relief is where it sticks up raised from its foundation. I would also like to add that I love you dude. You are so nervous and so sweet and it's just very beautiful in my eyes.don't be so nervous . you can mess up a thousand times and it's okay. do not call yourself stupid sir please don't do that .that is not stupidity it is simply a mistake so do not do that to yourself no matter who's watching this I don't care what these people might say to you don't call yourself stupid. I admire your talent and you taught me a thing that I didn't know how to do. I am an old lady, and well that's all I have to say. thank you from Kentucky Maria
You are the best my friend. You make the world and us better watching you!!!
you're a madman...and a genius. I LOVE that you're leaving it as it is as a reminder.
Awesome build. Great video 👍
love your work and your humor!
So very nice to know how the logo came about.
Brah you had my dying laughing with the whole turn table thing at the end!
So good!!! Thank you for your great humor!
That was so good. Made me laugh and empathise completely
Another perfect project.
Most DIY videos I learn something. In yours I learn something, and have a laugh. Thank you :)
i love mistakes!!helps me learn...iim an amateur leather maker i make belts ,tobacco pough, knifes seaths...anyway...mistakes are the best school!!
I would love to be able to engrave like you, it is amazing watching you work.
Please do a video on how to draw scrolls and how to fill a space with scrolls!
Uri, once again you have made a wonderful project and inspired me to get back to creating my own projects. I'd like to give engraving a try and make some projects out of brass.
I agree with all the other commenters about your unique sense of humor and allowing us to see your mistakes and how you work around them. I thought I was the only one that made mistakes in my projects and sometimes had to start over. I also appreciate that you don't try to make the project perfect but it's perfect after you finish it. I'll have to come up with my own logo. I like dogs so maybe a dog. Keep making more projects Uri and thanks!
I was going to say something about the pigeon being upside down but you seemed so busy at the time.
Xd
Great video man! Thank you for making it and sharing it. The next thing is to inlay a tiny stone for the pigeon eye :)
Love the humor Uri
Lol I was thinking to myself “is that up side down? No I’m sure he checked it” best up side down pigeon belt buckle ever made!
You are awesome Uri! Keep it up!
Your work is Super you need to teach these to others
Simpaticissimo!!! Un abbraccio dall'Italia 👍
Try getting hold of a porter pack which can be used for brazing and silver soldering, much better for stronger welds. Great job on the buckle, as a brass and copper smith its nice to see others working with brass.
Your engravings are out of this world! Gorgeous!!! Also some of the funniest videos on youtube haha you're awesome man! keep it up!!!
It happens, my friend, its what makes us human. Great video!
You are Unreal! Amazing Work!
Just tell anyone that asks that its upside down for you to look at and appreciate not them :P like how people either wear rings with words to face others or themselves. Or just say you checking me out :P why you looking there anywhere - loving your videos, the craftsmanship, the humour and especially the cats... look forward to many more future videos.
But I like the upside down pigeon. It is a unique design that makes your channel unique.
Very nice Uri. Thank you
very talented gentleman
Obra de arte parabéns!
GOOD one matey It come out really well
You just inspired me and made my day at 6 a.m. in the morning
When my search return showed your video and your avatar thing was an upside down bird, I thought, hmmm that’s a bit odd. Now that I watched why…IT IS FRICKIN AWESOME!! As the old painter Bob Ross would say, “it’s not a mistake, it’s a Happy Accident”.
Superb! I have 2 left hands with 5 thumbs on each side I am admiring, jealous and full of desire to do the same thing.Thank you.
Great job man... that was a lot of hard work...
I tried a similar project recently and went through 2 belts. It's a long story but one of the times had to do with the same issue of the reversed buckle.
You are a genius!! And the video is really funny. Very nice work!!
Great job 👍
Such an awesome video. I came across it for a funny reason. Im a colonial artifact hunter (metal detectorist) here in NH U.S.A. I had a falling out with a few hunting buddies. We all end up hitting the same old colonial house sites in the woods. So I'm going to take some metal pieces that sound good on a detector > engrave a nice 4 letter slogan to my former friends on it, and bury at the average depth of a colonial coin dropped 200 years ago. Yeh its spiteful but ill get a laugh. Thanks for the great content.
That was hilarious....good recovery.
Wunderschöne Arbeit 👍👍
Que trabalho perfeito parabens
I've always seen those sort of screws called "Chicago Screws". They get used quite a bit in leather work and horse equipment.
Thus, the legend begun
great job!And wonderful song!~~
Keep it up man, I love your style!
Keanu and Uri are my role models.
Molto bravo e simpatico!!!
Very funny and inspiring!!! Keep going please!!!
You know what? Just loop the belt thru the other side and noone will notice. Fantastic work Uri!!
Great Job! I have made more than one lefthand knife sheaths....... and I am right handed lol
"I have this... oddly shaped piece of brass..."
Huh. That weirdly buckle shaped piece, with some odd holes where a loop to hold a belt tail might nearly fit does seem like an ideal piece of scrap to fashion part of a belt buckle out of.
Nicely done my good friend =D
nice work!
I love this origin story to the upside down pigeon
Ficou lindo, se eu pudesse iria fazer uma de canário abraço parabéns
Great vid!
the screws are called Chicageo screws or post and screws. I greatly enjoy your videos.
looks great
Good job and nice content ❤
I have found that .22 rimfire casings work really well as impromptu belt hole punches. You really only get through one hole before the edge is badly marred, but it's handy to know if you're ever squirrel hunting in the woods and find your trousers sagging.
Clever, wouldn't have thought of that!
This channel is going to blow up!
That pigeon could use some more wing detail, but the scroll work is spot on
Maybe a 4th option is, assuming you have enough excess and the pattern on the leather allows it, is to cut off the buckle end of the belt and make that the tip of the belt. Convert the old tip of the belt to be the buckle end. You could probably add in some holes in the leather on the other side to balance off the existing holes. Maybe put in some of those brass screws in the holes to make a kinda design. I would have still soldered the pigeon to the buckle, just to make sure it does not come loose some day. Anyway, beautiful work bro. Thanks for the laughs when you discovered it was upside down. That sounds like something I would do.
I love your videos.
