madonna's "express yourself" was released on may 9 1989.....it's news to me that janet jackson was intentionally referencing metropolis, but if you say so, chronologically "rhythm nation" was released on october 23 1989, six months after "express yourself" not before
Thank you! I think I got confused and ended up mixing the dates! 🤗 About the inspiration I think it was never officialy told but many people list Rhythm Nation as related to Metropolis because the elements are too closed. Problably had influence from Madonna...
@@rickresenha Kylie took inspiration for her music and image from different sources during the Fever era, Metropolis undeniably was one of them. It resulted in a very fresh, minimalistic/futuristic-like image that then inspired many others in the 00´s. She kind of replicated the formula on her X tour 2008 entrance. You migh want to give it a check to that one too.

Kylie set the bar really high with that robot-metropoly inspired entrance on her Fever tour and her futuristic image during that period.
I confess that I didn't knew about that costume. I found out when I searched about the Beyoncé performance! 😅
