Procreate: 46 hours | ClipStudioPaint: 24+ hours | Reference Gathering? 5+ hours. Maybe even more thats the most embarrassing one lol.

Truly inspiring. I am working on some game design art, and was [read AM] overthinking it. This helped so much. I have a bunch of artist friends that I can tap as resources. You reminded me about using the community I'm part of as a resource for inspiration and aid in a time of creative struggle. Rather than struggling alone and making a sub-par piece of work. THANKS! Also, THIS IS SUCH A DOPE PIECE! Your way of approaching the highlights [especially around the terminator line] with tone patterns is such a sick idea [reminds me of that "into the spiderverse" vibe mixed with a heavy bowl of WLOP] So dope!
Wow, and I thought making 30 hours or 50 in a piece was to much, thank u for sharing the video, it makes me believe that one day not only my drawings will look amazing and have and impact to people but also that if it takes me so much time or less, it doesn’t matter as much as I wanna make the best of the art piece I’m doing 💖
seeing one of my favorite artists take so much meaningful time to perfect each piece makes me feel better lol.., I always worry im wayyyy too slow compared to others since well I’m just like that but this is very comforting
I- i ussualy take 100 hours ( im not exagerating thats litterly what procreate calculates) per illustration- not counting the other studies i do at the same time, gathering reference etc etc etc-…. Its nice to know im not alone 😭

I agree with all these points except the last one - I understand your sentiment but Id rather say one should strive for his best/excellence instead of perfection. The difference is one is achievable, the other isnt. Striving for perfection will only lead to two things - feelings of inadequacy and burnout...
this whole video is made of things i disagree with. and i love ergojosh, but its just kind of crazy that this is what people have to do to compete on social media.
I think what he means by "perfection" is your absolute limit of your ability.
So if you know how to render an object but you only decide to shade it and add no highlights even though you know how beacuse lets you want to finish it faster that wont be pursuing " perfection".

I love the fact that you've brought to light that paintings take a REALLY LONG TIME. Yes people can paint a nice painting in a few hours, but painting a really amazing piece takes time.
I was feeling horrible after spending nearly 3 weeks on a single painting (even if I'm proud of the final result) because I thought that wasn't normal.. so thanks
Same I feel really pathetic
dont feel bad, 3 weeks isn't even that much for 1 painting. Some people take years to finish a piece or revisit it. There is no time constraint if you're making work for yourself, just go at your own pace, it's done when its done.

Note for myself, felt like sharing, hope it helped you out!
1) abandoning fear and embracing confidence. Pick the coolest idea you could think of, the one you like the most and ignore whatever skill level you are 1:28. Once you're in-line with your clear goal, you will get into a flow, you will be in the present for the process not for the final outcome 6:53
2) abandoning ego. Think about improvement, critiques, ask for advice, if you agree, fix them. This will not only help you to create a better final piece, but eliminating mistakes that you will make in the future. It's okay to take a few hours just to fix your mistakes, this could be focal length, depth of field etc. You don't need to jump to rendering right away, take your time to think about better ways to improve it. When rending use whatever method there are and the ones that you like, test the filters, paint in black and white 3:35 Even though you could name dozen of parts in the painting you want to change or fix, but focus on the main key elements, what exactly do you want this piece to express 7:28
3) pursuing perfection. if you know there is something you can do to make it better, then change it. Think about your aspiring artist, whoever you look up to, what would they add or change if they are creating your piece, how would they show the personality and character better, what is unique about their work, why do you like their work, what impact does it create (did they use fog, dust, dirt, grime, sweat, blood, broken glass etc. to enhance their piece?) 8:02 Don't over render elements that aren't important, sometimes when you put all your effort on the first attempt, it might actually be your best work and save you much more time. Whenever you lose motivation, ask yourself what is it that makes you excited, is it painting the face, hair? 9:21 (something I'll add that helped to motivate myself is look back at your original goal why did you start this piece).

I could tell that you got inspired by Guweiz with the way you shaded her clothes & hair. Thank you for pointing out that you don't have to be fast & efficient to progress better. I often take a long time with my artworks until I'm satisfied with it, and they honestly turn out better than the ones I do faster. Also, can't wait to hear more about your Procreate course! ✨
I find that striving for perfection causes two things: sketches that take hours to complete and unfinished drawings.
I think you're missing the point of what he was saying. While pursuing perfection, you have to abandon fear and embody confidence. The only reason that unfinished drawings may be the result for you is that you are afraid of imperfection and scared of the final product not being as good as you want it to be; at least that's what I took away from the video

New follower here. This was one of the first videos I’d seen from you and immediately I became a fan. Not just because of your work, but because of your transparency. You didn’t hide the fact that you struggled and had to overcome various obstacles through out the process. Ultimately, it seems your drive and passion led you to persevere. This alone is so powerful. At this point, I'm officially in my 2nd year of drawing. This summer I decided to give it my all. I drew every day while focusing on areas of improvement with each sketch. I also developed my love for a certain style, and I'm seeing it start to take over my drawings, haha.
Compared to a year ago, drawing is feeling more natural. I had to learn to let go of a lot of frustrating things. Sometimes it was a matter of letting go in the moment, and coming back when I was ready.
dude you've come so far it's actually incredible. the atmosphere of this illustration is absolutely captivating. everything from her pose to her facial expression, the environmental storytelling, lighting, viewing angle. it tells of such an intense moment i feel like i can't even take my eyes off it. i completely agree with you that viewers can feel something different when seeing works of great passion and dedication. i can feel that you entered some sort of mental state while painting this. i can't look away.
GAH DAMN THE AMOUNT OF TIME THIS TOOK IS MINDBLOWING, but also, I can see where that time went. The end result is amazing 😳

Amazing to learn from! I loved hearing what lessons (psychological ones mostly) that helped you with this piece. Going straight at your fear, painting a piece you want with disregard to your skill level, blew me away. But so did how you took critique, still felt its frustration but still utilized it nonetheless. Putting that in my back pocket for my own art!

I always give up my ideas, being scared of if i can or cant finished it. So, i always put a boundary what i think i can only do. Keeping myself to be creative which sucks. I want to but im scared. Sometimes ill reason to myself i didnt have enough materials so i could cover up my weakness.

A striking piece that has punch, movement and that tells a story. One tends to forget all the time and work needed behind this. The final result is stunning but the road to get there is never a straight path: it's made of trials and errors, adjustments, starting over. Thanks for the lesson of drawing and of humility that is the mark of the true professionals.

hey so i wanna say this, you draw everything perfect, but there's one thing I'd recommend. Fix the face proportions, distance between the bottom of the chin and bottom of the nose should be the same as distance between bottom of the nose and top of the eyes and the distance between the top of the eyes to the top of forehead should be same as other 2! Those are the realistic measures and you can even checking out by putting your hand on your face. For me i can fit 3 of my hands on my face vertically. Anyway keep up the great work!
Thanks for reminding us to push to the limits of our ability. There are so many ideas that I just don't draw because I don't think I can execute them as well as I would like. Then at the same time, lament over how much more imaginative my art used to be even if it was technically rougher in execution

I'm lucky to have started drawing many years back. The biggest tip I can give anyone is use reference and feel free to trace your own pictures/ 3d models. It's NOT cheating. It speeds up your learning and makes the process less painful. Especially if you made that reference you should use it to its fullest potential. Sorry for rambling.
Need to manage:
1 - the nose is too long, or the face would need to be shorter.
2 - The left leg is strange, it would have to be more firm in her step.
3 - there is a light on the side of her left foot, on the man's face, it generates a lot of contrast and draws a lot of attention to that area.
4 - there had to be a better definition from one breast to the other.
5 - Suggestion: You could include a hand or detail of the man who will be the next to be eliminated.
Most importantly: The art is perfect. Excellent work!
I clicked on this video waiting for more comments like this one, as soon as I saw the thumbnail I spotted a bunch of things he could improve, but apart from that his message and advices are very good.

I think there is a big problem with the straight arm of the femal character and the arm of the man. On the female this arm seems to short because her shouder is put in an unanatomical position, like she broke her claviculus bone or something. Plus her other arm is not resting on the table, with this set, it's very unlikly she can stay balanced in that position, her straight arm should be very tense considering it 's the only thing that balanced her whole upper body. The balance and the weight repartition is not good, it feels off. The man hand feels off too. Considering the persepctive and the leg position of the female character, there is no way his hand reaches the side of the table in the same way as the lady. The two characters belong to two differents perspective/focal plan on your drawing. The shading makes thing easier on eyes but it's off if you look the details of different positions. It's obvious when you were at the line art stage of the video. This kind of main front composition is super hard to do.

On ripping & deriving from a CBP2077 background: so glad you did this! It's protected activity & perfectly valid to create derivative works based on a "tracing". I go the opposite way -- backgrounds are easy for me, while figures are annoyingly necessary and a huge chore. Using 3D models and/or the silhouette of a pose can help people who don't care about figures reach the next level.
I strongly recommend the landscape-inclined (or abstract types, etc) use Blender, Skyrim, UE, Pinterest, or whatever they know. Generate a pose, outline it, and focus on finishing an original composition! Almost nobody believes me about this due to current culture being obsessed with from-scratch character design ;). It doesn't help that intellectual property law is scary. Just remember that as long as you aren't outright copying with zero derivation -- you're good to go. I'd be grateful as hell if I randomly discovered a character artist traced out one of my backgrounds and made something fresh! Let's hope the pendulum doesn't swing backwards and give landscape people cause to harass the character-driven peeps :)

I ❤🔥the idea of deranged or dangerous female characters because women are suppose to have that natural maternal and sweet personality trait, unless of course they've been through some serious ❈ 🎀 𝐵𝐸𝐸𝒫 🎀 ❈. It makes the viewer imagine what could have happened to them to transform them into the monster they become.

@@ergojosh I feel like it is just a straight face. When I imagine a psychopath-ish type of character I don't picture them with a serious face looking directly. Maybe something more similar to what you did on those Jinx's scketches, more like some smily face like if they were screaming or laughing. Maybe thats a little too cliche but I would have prefered that more than a serious face looking directly to the viewer.

If your problem is perspective. Maybe it would be more "useful/smarter" to tackle 40 different fisheye perspective with just flat rendering. You use the 1st hour to find a pose, and put it in perspective. And in the second hours you pose it in Pose It(on the ipad) match your camera lens, and correct your work, rinse repeat

Nope! This took around 3 weeks since I balanced it with other projects so it was a relatively slow pace.
@@ergojosh WOW!, you can work on multiple pieces? :0 i never thought about that, i will only hyper focus on a drawing at a time and then get burnt out. Sounds like a good topic for a video tbh.
how do you reconcile putting details vs simplifying? This is something I repetitively hear painters say, but then I see other work that is anything but simple, like yours and many more.

I struggle the most with motivation, as soon as I hit the 10h mark I start losing interest very quickly. I already changed my style to suite this better and give me more motivation, but it’s still a struggle especially when something goes wrong and I need to redo bigs parts like the background where I’ll start cutting corners to finish it faster. I just don’t know where to get this kinda of patience and I don’t feel like brute forcing it anymore.
Love it man, great work! Sadly all I can think about is “$70 hrs of hard work, skill, billable hours” vs “2 minutes of ai keywords getting not exactly this but potentially similar”…troubling times in the kingdom
remember, ai art is not artificial intelligence, its machine learning, its just a deviant of art thats been created. create your own art and your own concepts!!!
This shouldn’t change or affect how you feel about creating art if you’re truly passionate about it
AI art can create pretty pictures, but it can’t design, storyboard, stylize, or have any thematic style. It’s very limited an you won’t see it replacing actual artists for those within industries, or for commissions
