That first one I had so much trouble noticing weirdly enough. I thought it was a curve ball (I've also been stuck for a few years now on not being able to notice what's off in drawings despite having that "it looks off" feeling). Thanks so much for this!

This is probably the best video for intermediate artist ive ever seen explaining with concepts and showing the before and after to really train your mind to see how big of a difference the correction makes it’s perfect for someone who understands the basics and is ready to learn at the next level well done!

Keeping features in perspective is so hard!!! It's something I'm trying so hard to recognize in my own work more. Man, even just recognizing where the mistakes are is such a skill on its own.

I usually don’t like riddles & puzzles. 😌 I just like information and answers. 🤩🥳 But this is actually a really fun game! Thanks! And I can’t stand suspense when I’m learning and you weren’t a jerk at all about teaching. 😎 Just straight facts! Bless you, Josh! 💪🏽

I do traditional art but draw almost all my characters in front view and sometimes side view. I rarely draw 3/4 view because I am not comfortable with it. I don't use references because I like to use my imagination when I draw and I think references make it boring. One of my main art struggles also has been identifying the direction of the light source and how to color and shade shadows and highlights on the face and body of the character.

ig the difficult thought for me was stylist choices. I can see if realism was our subject but it wasn't. I would argue that everyone stylistically has different ways they perceive art especially if you're not trying to realistically copy the portrait. I personally didn't perceive them as mistakes so much so as a different style but GOOD VIDEO EITHER WAY!!!

This video is gold! those mistakes are usually what keep artists back from looking professional! I know something myself, i still do a lot of them and correcting faces is hard as hell for me and sometimes i just fail >.< and start fresh
One tip i would love to add is to pause and come back to a drawing after a hour or so, to have a fresh first-impact and see more imperfections.

Great video! I was able to notice maybe 50% of the mistakes, but you made them so subtle, some of which I'd easily call an artistic style until you showed the correct version! :) Amazing, it'd be great to see something similar with different angles of the face!

A big mistake I would always make when I was starting out was the brow bone, and the structure around the eye (especially when the head isn't straight on). I would be interested in seeing how you tackle skin colour, as that's something I still struggle with.

This is such a great video!
One more common mistake that I find myself making *all. the. time* is drawing eyes too far apart. This one is also most prevalent it 3/4 view bc the perspective distortions make it so hard
I'd argue it's present in your 3rd study as well, actually - the eye closest to the viewer sat just a bit too far from the nose imo. It also looked a bit like en face view of the eye than 3/4 view to me (another thing I do all the time, falls under "incorrect perspective" I'd say)

Hey there! Love that video, helps a lot! Do you also have like whole tutorials of drawing a portrait? Like a whole face , because you are drawing amazingly.
As for the Ssian girl to be honest I immediately noticed the eyes, it’s very noticeable. I would also fix the angle of the lips, but it’s also great as it is after you fixed it.
As for the darker girl, I do think that the eye you fixed also needs to be a bit closer to the nose.
I also love lips btw, lips and eyes

  • @Hoju3942

Lots of great advice but number 4 is a personal preference, not a mistake. In fact, I find the opposite much, MUCH more attractive to my personal tastes. I admit that I also draw much more stylized characters than you do, but that doesn't make either nose/mouth/chin proportion a mistake. Everything else though, absolutely spot on.

If you're watching a video on intermediate art skills, then there's no way you're so dumb as to not realize they're the same skills. Digital allows you to access more tools with less supplies, and fine-tune lines you already made. You still have to have the skill to *notice what's wrong with the lines in the 1st place* and *fix them to look proper.* Yanno, the whole point of the video.
