No, Ali. The squirrel didn't get the Holy Spirit. The squirrel brought the Holy Spirit 😂
That’s one way of putting it! 😂
The great thing about Ray Stevens' songs is they are/were always family friendly so a lot of us actually grew up on these songs. It is something that both kids and adults can enjoy.
It's me again Margaret really toes the line of family friendly.
@@donaldseale2700 Possibly. You have to think, however, about when the song was written. Things were different then. Also, kids, depending on the age, wouldn't understand a lot of the references.
@@Lunzatis_Palemoon I definitely agree. You do have to read between the lines with most of it. With exception to the part where he flat out asked her if she was naked. lol
Ray Steven’s is an icon in country music!great story telling in his music good voice lots of hits..
In 1970 he made a beautiful song everything is beautiful
Ray Stevens is a country & pop singer-songwriter & comedian known for his novelty hits such as "Gitarzan", "Ahab The Arab", "Along Came Jones", "The Streak" and others. But he also did a few serious songs such as "Misty" & "Everything Is Beautiful" which he won a Grammy for in 1970. Home Free recently did a fun cover of this song "The Mississippi Squirrel Revival". Hope you check it out.
Thank you! I was going to mention Home Free's cover but I figured I should look for a similar comment first. :)
Ray Stevens made so many funny music videos and he has his own channel here on UA-cam where all of his videos can be found. "Gitarzan", "I'm My Own Grandpa", "Sitting Up With The Dead", "The Streak", "It's Me Again Margaret" and "Ahab The Arab" are just some of them definitely worth watching!
Ray has a beautiful singing voice that on full display in his wonderful song "Everything is Beautiful". Personally, I wish he had produced more songs like that but he enjoyed making songs like this one. He spent some time on the TV show, Hee Haw, and just seemed to love making people laugh. I can't fault that at all.
I remember Ray doing an entire album of serious songs. But it didn't do well. The fans wanted him to only record the funny songs.
Have you seen his CabaRay Nashville show on UA-cam? It's a nice mix of comedy and serious, with some great vintage covers and guest stars.
@Hali Denenberg No, l haven't. I did watch his TV series where he sings his songs and has a guest on each wk with a live audience. Is that the same show?
@@ednafenton7558 Yes. I think they're showing a lot of episodes that haven't been shown in a long time.
For me this song takes me back to being a kid and my mother playing this song, she would get to laughing so hard , my mother loved to laugh, RIP mom☝️
@davidkennedy227 I bet your mom and my mom are laughing about the two of us watching this video together. My mom loved everything Ray did.
I'm with MOM...me too... I LOVE TO LAUGH!!😂🤣😂🤣😂 AND THE WORLD NEEDS MORE OF IT
I’m 26 and Ray Steven’s was my first concert! I saw him at a small local theater in my hometown. I love his music so much!
Being a 77 year old Southerner, (Louisiana) I remember those days and some places haven't changed that much.
I grew up watching his VHS tapes at my grandparents house. I love him so much lol 🖤 He’s definitely still alive. He comments on some of the reactions sometimes
Same here, and so did my husband! We love us some Ray!
So did I, Loved them.
Same
Ray nailed it calling it The First Self-Righteous Church! 🤣 I do believe we could use a few more squirrels in our churches!
If this song doesn't make you giggle like a schoolgirl, you have issues 😂
Home Free has released an animated cover of this timeless music video. Ray Stevens has released a great number of serious and light-hearted tunes over the years. The Streak came out in around 1974 when streaking was "the thing to do."
I think a lot of churches need a squirrel set loose!
Ray Stevens is still alive, and still performing. He has his own theater and performs regularlly. I saw him during Labor Day weekend in Nashville.
I love everything that Ray Stevens did. His songs are so clever, and he picked up on some of the social events of the time. The Streak was written in maybe 1973-74, and it was a thing. Someone streaked on the Academy Awards show that was not planned. Someone I graduated with who had a scholarship at Memphis State to play football got caught streaking, and he was on the Johnny Carson show for it. Others are "It's Me Again, Margaret", "Ahab the Arab", "Along Came Jones", "The Haircut Song", "The Shriner's Convention", "Sitting Up With the Dead" and a gazillion more worth listening too.
I just played this for my nephew's. Told him it was the greatest church song.
Gitarzan is CLASSIC!!!
I grew up listening to Ray Steven in the 80s-90s. He’s the Weird Al of Country. I love his work.
Ray is a legend! Sitting up with the Dead is my favorite!!
Ray Stevens, the man seems to have been around forever and long may he continue to be. The man is incredibly talented and has given us beautiful songs like 'Misty' and 'Everything is Beautiful' to the madly giggle worthy 'It's Me Again Margaret' 'Taylor Swift is Stalkin' Me!' ' I'm My Own Grandpa' and of course 'The Streak.'
One of the all time greatest whenever you need a laugh. Ray Stevens will forever be a comedy legend.
"Mama's is in the sky with Elvis" is an awesome tune from Ray...
Lol home free did an animated, cover of this song. Ray stevens was impressed
Dude has an awesome grasp of vocabulary. The way he can twist a story is a gift. Shriner’s Convention and It’s Me Again, Margaret are two of my favorites.
love Ray Stevens, his song Everything is Beautiful is worth listening to
I had this on CASSETTE when I was a child. I thought it was just hilarious. He also has was where he makes pervy phone calls from a phone booth called "It's me again, Margaret". The guy is just so funny.
I remember hearing this when I was very very young. My father was a stern man in many ways, Vietnam Vet turned a very religious and conservative preacher, but occasionally his since of humor would show. When we would go on road trips we would listen to ray Stevens, beach boys, Eagles and Red Sovine (who sang Teddy Bear). We would listen to them on old cassette tapes in the car while we drank R.C. cola with peanuts. Man, those were the days. Music like this is just good for the soul. Especially when it can tie you to your childhood and take you back to happier times.
Love Ray Stevens! Reminds me of my Nanny & Poppop. When we were kids his music was the only music we, the grandkids and them could compromise on during car rides. We grew to love it and it makes me reminisce every time I hear one of his songs. This one & the streak are the best!!
His Santy Claus is Watching You and Shriners Convention are a hoot. Everything is Beautiful is one of his lovely serious songs.
I love Ray Stevens. he still performs now and then in nasville at the “CabaRay” his place there
Ray has a You Tube Channel that periodacally posts recodings from "CabaRay"........
For me, the reason it's so funny, is because if you grew up in the South and attended a small church back in the 70s or 80s, this could have actually happened! I love in the video where the woman that he husband's name got named has him by the EAR coming out of the Church. Ray has such a unique ability to turn things into such hilarious songs and videos. He is a one man wonder in the music industry.
The Streak is another classic from Ray Stevens. Another that never gets old.
My husband and I moved to Pascagoula 6 years ago. (He was raised down here) My favorite phrase about our apartment was: It was 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 blocks from the Gulf with a dishwasher whose name is Not Jacqui ;-) Medium size town that probably has at least a couple of churches like this one. ;-) P.S. This is one of my favorite songs of his. He actually has a Musical/Comedy club in Nashville. ;-) Have a Great day ;-)
Back in 1976 i was blessed to see Ray Stevens at the Macon county Illinois Fair in concerte it was great
I'm My Own Grandpa is one of my favorites. A well thought out set of twists and turns explain the title. Ray was very popular when I was a kid, as was the streaking craze.
Saw Ray Stevens in Nashville at his dinner theater a couple of years ago. He did all of his hits of course…”Arab the Arab”,
“The streak” and “The Mississippi Squirrel “ Great show! 🤗
Ray Stevens still performs at his club call CabaRay showroom near Nashville.
I saw him years ago in Branson Missouri. Love all his music.
I grew up listening to Ray Stevens (back in the 70's and 80's). I have always loved his songs.
You just have to listen & enjoy! Do NOT try to decipher the WORDS...just listen and try to picture what he is singing! He Is HILARIOUS! "Ahab the Arab" "The Streak"!! Such a Treasure!!
Clean comedy he has over 70 years in music
Born and raised in Mississippi, not even 2 hours from Pascagoula.. Loved this growing up
Ray Stevens sang is a great gospel singer with a beautiful voice. I highly recommend 'Would Jesus Wear a Rolex?'. It's easy to miss his message due to the humor.
I grew up listening to Ray Stevens. "The Streak" is a must.
For more along the same lines; Jim Stafford, "Wildwood Weed", "I Don't Like Spiders and Snakes", "My Girl, Bill". Jim is also a master guitarist on par with Roy Clark and Glen Campbell.
Or you could try Tom T. Hall, "A Week In a Country Jail", "Old Dogs and Whiskey".
He has a TON of funny songs! Many were very famous, top hits! Guitarzan, Ahab the Arab, Purple People-Eater, Along Came Jones, Bridget the Midget, etc etc
Since I was born 64 I grew up listening to songs of Ray Stevens songs by just in case you did not know or anybody else know that he has his own restaurant and show called Ray Stevens in Nashville Tennessee
I love this because the situation is so absurd and silly, and then he brings it back around to the Lord putting that church back on the narrow way with the most unlikely of miracles...talk about working in mysterious ways!
Ray Stevens Is the best. Right there with Jerry Reed. Been a fan sense the '60s.
All of his songs are good, usually hilarious with a few serious songs that are just as great! He’s a fantastic storyteller with a great voice and comedienne all in one. “It’s Me Again Margaret,” “Shriner’s Convention,” “The Blue Cyclone,” and “Ahab the Arab,” and “The Streak,” just to name a few funny songs. He has tons of hits. Plus he’s a really nice guy who loves Jesus and loves our Country.
I saw him in Branson Missouri once. He has several cute clean songs.a funny Christmas one is santa is watching you.
My dad brought this home as a 45 record when i was in 7th grade? We listened and laughed and played for our friends and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed. Such a great story teller!! Weird Al Yankovic of Country
His Everything is Beautiful is a classic.
Ray is still alive AND still performing... He even has his own theater in Nashville, called CabaRay...
Some of the best ones from him are The Streak, It's Me Again Margaret, and my personal favorite, Sittin' Up With The Dead. They are all hilarious.
I was raised in Missouri, and grew up hearing Ray Stevens songs. Lol. Many years later, I shared them with my own kids. It's fun to see the younger generations enjoying the laughter, also.
Also from Missouri hello.
@@babecat2000 Hi!! I'm in southeastern MO; what area are you in?
@@pamprier4710 near st.louis
Holy shit, talk about diggin up a part of my past! Wow, thank you so much!
My grandpa used to listen to this and belly laugh till he cried!! I love this, and I miss my PawPaw! ❤❤
I live in Pascagoula. We all thought we knew which church he was talking about. We love the song.
Love me some Ray Stevens .... and I'm from Mississippi!!!!
Enjoy this, know you will. Love Ray's music. Legend he is.
He actually has a song called Taylor Swift is stalking me. It was funny.
My mom had his cassettes when I was little. My best friend and I will listen to them now and just laugh until we cry. Brings back so many memories. His Sitting up With the Dead video was filmed next door to my cousin’s house. Love Ray Stevens ❤
I used to love to watch his videos, they were always clean, and good-hearted light fun.
Guitarzan was one of my first songs I heard in the early 70s. I really enjoy his music and parodies.
Ray Stevens is a legend.
Ray Stevens, Jerry Clower and Spike jones...loved these guys.
One of my favorites Ray Steven’s song is “ The Streaker ‘. That will make you laugh through the whole song. Gotta watch it.
Ray Steven's as I understand still preforms to this day. Look it up. FYI the first song I ever learned front to back was The Streak. I wasn't a normal 4 year old.
Glad Y'all Enjoyed this Treasure.......
Others have mentioned alot of his Songs/Videos..... but they seem to miss: "Shriner Convention," "Santa Claus is Watching You," "The Haricut Song," and "Blue Cyclone (Part 1 & 2)".......
I was in 7th grade in 1962-63 when Ray did a massive hit called Ahab The Arab....& his camel named Clyde. I still laugh thinking about it to at age 73. When he did the song The Streak I got and still the personalized license plates for my 66 Corvette that is called STREAK up here in Alaska.
My personal favorite Ray Stevens song is Sitting Up With The Dead. Although The Streak is always a fun one.
I personally love his songs "It's Me Again, Margaret" and "I'm My Own Grandpa".
Ray was always great. Everything is Beautiful is a wonderful song, Gitarzan and the streak are hilarious.
You missed the line...
"...all the way down to the amen pew, which sat Sister Bertha Better Than You..."
😂 I've always loved Ray Stevens songs!
Saw him at the Carolina Streeet Fair in the early 1980s. He was a good entertainer.
You really should go down the Ray Stevens rabbit hole. He has a lot of really fun ones.
"Margaret" is a super one too! Great reaction BTW.
I had a VHS tape of his stuff and of one of his concerts growing up. Some of the lyrics of his songs actually became inside jokes between my maternal grandmother and me. The fact he's still going as of right now is a treasure and trust me, he will be missed the day he passes.
Now, blow your own minds and listen to his song MISTY* from 1975. Loved that you noticed the name of the church!
"Kissing you goodbye" worth A listen!! Also Ray Stevens
It's silly but always makes me smile.
How could you NOT KNOW ABOUT Ray Stevens!!!😮
I absolutely love the Mississippi squirrel song
I grew up watching his vhs tape 😂 this is one of my favorites but my all time favorite is The Streak and It's me again Margaret! Sittin up with the dead is another good one!
I'm an old hippie rocker, but this song was really well loved by all of us when it came out!! Thank you for bringing it back to my attention!! 💋💖💋💖😄😄
Home Free does a good cover of this 😊 but I always loved Ray Stevens the Streak 😂😂
My fave Ray Stevens sing is "The Streak"
Having been raised evangelical Pentecostal, I've encountered my share of Sister Bertha Better Than You's😂😂😂 I've strayed incredibly far from my cultish childhood, and this song never fails to crack me up.
Love Ray Stevens, in his hay day he was one of a kind, his song The Streak was about an actual social trend that lasted for a couple of years, where we as teens and young adults dared each other to Streak. Streaking involved stripping off all your clothes and running through some public place in the buff. Some fella actually ran across a football field during a pro game on national TV. I'm sure yt has a clip of it somewhere. In todays climate some of his songs would never be played commercially anymore. Like Ahab the Arab, his song Everything Is Beautiful is a lovely song.
i've always loved this song, actually all his songs. they are fun and, for the most part, wholesome. he loves interacting with his fans so don't be surprised if he comments on your reaction
One of the nicest people you ever meet
Just simple fun. So refreshing!
This reminds me of my grandma. She loved this one and "the steak. " i laughed at reading the title
Ray Stevens is a national treasure this song is just an example Home Free did a cover of this song.
Thanks so much for reacting to that. I know my requests have been all over the genre map of music, but nothing compares to this light hearted song. I'm also glad to see it has been viewed over 14,000 times. Thanks again. Stay blessed.
Ray has many songs. My favorite is "The Shriner's Convention." If you want his regular songs, listen to;
"Everything is beautiful"
"Turn your radio on"
"Misty"
"Mr. Businessman"
Another funny song with the longest & weirdest title is,
"Fred's Nostril & his South seas Paradise, put your Blues on Ice, cheap at twice the price band(icky, icky, ucky, ucky)"
I'm not kidding you. It's a real song. You will die laughing. Any song by Ray is worth listening to!
Besides this song, my favorites are I am my own grandpa, and it's me again Margaret.
I love everything Ray Stevens does. He’s my go to when I really need a laugh!
Home Free covered this song a few months ago! Took it to a whole other level, as they do.
