You will love the original from 1973 by Vicki Lawerence whose husband at the time wrote the song for Cher but was turned down by Sony Bono. Vicki a member of the legendary cast of The Carol Burnett Show, recorded it this has become one of the greatest one. hit wonders
The original version was done by Vicki Laurence and was better. No video with schmaltzy voice over. It left it to your imagination to fill in the blanks.
I don't usually like remake song, but both are really good, Reba never destroyed it like I feel most remakes are. I give Vickie and Reba thumbs up. This was a one hit wonder for her and Reba did her and this song good.
They did the video this way... with dialog over the lyrics... because this wasn't a new song at the time. Every country music fan was very familiar with the Vicky Lawrence version. Plus, by the time this video was released the Reba version had been on the radio for quite a while.
Yes, the video gets in the way of the song and they talk over it, but they’re explaining the song at the same time they’re telling a story. This is a legendary video it really is. And if you just want the song, there’s another video for that, but this is art and music at it’s finest
Vickie Lawrence was on the Carol Burnett Show for the whole time that the show was aired on TV ... they loved her and she looked so much like Carol Burnett that she could have passed for her sister. Here is Vickie singing it in 1973. ua-cam.com/video/52JAjsUAINQ/v-deo.html
A lot of reba's videos, especially early on, were mini movies set to music. Some people like it, some don't. She's very theatrical even in her live shows.
I saw a Vince Gill interview and he was talking about the "Heart Don't Lie" song and he said "Oh great she's going to want to do a video" lor something along those lines lol
Reba is a great country music star! She is the new coach on The Voice to replace Blake Shelton even though Blake can not be replaced in my eyes! Since we have to lose Blake, Reba is an awesome choice!
Great reaction---I'm so happy you enjoyed it!! One note: Nobody ever mentions it---and I'm sure you caught it, but I just waana make sure---Reba is the old lady, AND the young girl!!
I'm glad you like her although once you've met she or Pake you wouldn't love her quite as much possible, I'm guessing, unless she's changed. Just being honest.😉
Fantastic song. I totally get the debate over live vs official video. I think it is good that you saw the video first, as it does fill in a few gaps, though maybe too directly. That said, you will really appreciate the song on it's own.
@@TEDodd I never caught on that the judge cheated with the wife too until I saw the video. I thought he was just one of those ones that wanted to shut the case, give the punishment, and didn't care if they had the right person as long as it worked on paper. The video changed my understanding of the story greatly.
@@chlupl that's not in the song. That was extra added to make the Judge look worse. It was about corrupt small towns. The judge and sheriff being buddies, not investing and a shame trial. Many miss that the brother was accused of killing his friend Andy, not Seth who was the guy Andy said his wife was cheating with. And the video plot of Andy and the wife being killed together doesn't match the lyrics. And said she was with Seth. No implication that when he went home she was there. Always bugged me that we don't hear what happened to Seth. Did the sister kill him too? Maybe when she killed the wife?
@@TEDodd I honestly NEVER realized that the person singing actually murdered them, I thought it was just a corrupt system that didn't care if they got the right person

The Reba version is a cover. Vicki Lawrence did the original version. The 2 verrsions have very different " Feels ". For me the Vicki Lawrence version feels more Blues / Jazz and Reba's more Rockish.
I've known this song for decades, but as they talked over the words I thought, Sebs needs to hear the words to understand it. But, you got it. It's not hard for those of us that know the song.
Vickie Lawrence was on the carol Burnettvshow and played many roles. She later was the mama in the show, Mamas Family. Yes, she played the old woman. Lol! She also did the song, That's the night the lights went out in Georgia. Very good singer
Off subject, but it's something I randomly remember when listening to Reba. In 1991, 7 members of her band and her manager were killed when the plane they were on crashed. Reba was supposed to be on the flight, but she wasn't feeling well, so she decided to stay overnight and join them the next day. As expected, it devastated her.
You should Google Vicki Lawrence. She played Mama on "Mama's Family. A spinoff from the Carol Burnett show. She was also a huge part of Carol Burnett's show. I head that Cher was offered this song but Sonny didn't think it was up to her standards. IDK.
I agree with what you're saying about the video, because that's the one thing that bothers me...if you don't know the song well and you're watching a video that is playing out like a scene from a movie, It almost overpowers the vocals of the song and so you're struggling to try to understand what's going on because you're hearing somebody talking and you're also hearing somebody singing the song. For someone that is doing a reaction, it's almost better to hear the song first alone and then watch the video to it. When the song first came out it was super popular... everybody listened to it on the radio... heard the song and then later when the video came out it was easy to follow along and understand. I also agree that Reba is one of the best!! I've seen her in concert...I love her❤ that's the one thing about country music is the storyline is always so good and it paints a picture immediately in your head of what is happening... that's what draws you in❤
I can’t remember if you have reacted to them or not yet, but Reba has some other banging storytelling songs you should check out. The two that immediately come to mind are The Heart Won’t Lie and Is There Life Out There. She’s so good ❤️
Smooth singing group would be the Kentucky head. Hunter's Kentucky head hunters they got a video with this. I know the name sounds crazy but they're light back. White boys are they can sing and play I
Approximately 4% of people sentenced to death are innocent ... that doesn't seem like a lot until you consider how many people have been given the death penalty!!
Another great story is Cocaine Blues by country star Johnny Cash, who himself had drug issues back in the day. Song immediately starts off hard so I suggest you listen/read the lyrics. Peace
Ok, let the discussion start.. I'm not against the death penalty in theory. If someone has proven to be so harmful to society that they can't be released, then it is a just response. I don't agree with the practice, though. I don't trust government or the courts to always get it right.
Reba is absolutely one of my favorites… please also listen to Martina McBride “I’m Gonna love you through it” and Trisha yearwood (garth brooks wife) in all her oldies

One of my favorite Reba duets is with Linda Davis "Does He Love You?" Fun ending
I think seeing you sit there with your mouth litterally hanging open was the best I've watched in a while! 😂😂😂

If you haven’t already, the video version of “Does He Love You?” Is OUTSTANDING! My favorite!
Great song…another one of Reba’s best !! 😊The video is awesome!!
Reba, the greatest man I never knew

Love Reba , looks , personality , talent. I named one of my beagles after REBA
One of my favorites from when I was a kid. I was always a little sad that she didn't have one left for the judge, though
Reba is a good actress and does a lot of great "videos"...but this video definitely gets in the way of the song.
Vicki Lawrence looks so much like Crol Burnett. She played Carol’s sister in a lot of the skits.
Reba is a brilliant story teller with an iconic string voice she is the queen hands down
I can’t remember if you have reacted to them or not yet, but Reba has some other banging storytelling songs you should check out. The two that immediately come to mind are The Heart Won’t Lie and Is There Life Out There. She’s so good ❤️
Yeah, those are great picks, for her mini-movie vids!!
Don't forget "Fancy".
Listen to it just the song.

Vicki sounds great too.
I prefer Vicki Lawrence's version.
Reba for you and the Mrs. ~ "He Gets That From Me"
"The Greatest Man I Ever Knew"
"Somebody"
All three of these should be done with the video
Yes!
Another great one by Reba is "Maggie Creek Road".
Agree that Vicki's is great, tells the story... but Reba brings the drama / movie quality to it. Both good.
A country music country music.
Actually had a. Where it was sort of like the motown music, it was all good

It's great live but the video is a good idea for the first time 😊
Talking might distract a little bit but can't take anything away from how good Reba is acting out the part in the song.
Reba also appeared on Broadway in “Annie Get Your Gun.” I will try to get you a copy of one of her songs.
