There are other possibilities that can cause fuel trim fault codes to log.
This video is designed to give good information in a short time frame that can help you diagnose the fault for yourself, in this case a BMW E46 (it is not meant as a crossover for all vehicles with fuel trim faults)
Fuel Trim fault codes are logged if the fuel trim correction limits are exceeded.
Meaning you can list the following as possible causes in +/- fuel trims.
**Multiple fuel delivery/pressure related faults, EVAP systems (seen in a recent video) Map Sensor (seen in another video), Air Mass fault, compression faults, ignition faults, Oxy Sensor, any leak before the upstream Oxy Sensor**
I wanted to list this in the comments for others that may want/need the info. Thanks for watching

    Thanks mate,
The classic air entry and in the best place! Good score. With all that movement and age, they should almost be classified as a service item. 😉

      Thanks Max,
      Sometimes work goes smoothly 😂
Let's not talk about the other times 🤔🤣

very clear and informative - I hope this helps... I just did plugs and coils and my rough start persists. Thanks again!

I have a 2002 325i, and just replaced spark plugs and engine mounts. The shaking is not as bad, but is still there. Acceleration is close to what it should be, but not quite. Will be checking hoses today after work.
      Hopefully I find the issue

Thanks for video and FT advice. Anything made of rubber or plastic on these engines should be replaced as a matter of course.

It would be very nice if you once had time to make a video with a more detailed explanation on fuel trim. If I had time of course. Thanks so much .

Guess Ill go look for vacuum leaks too just incase. Mine gave codes of maf and intake air temp. Signals respectively and the car runs rough, idles at around 400rpm and uses double the amount of fuel compared to before. I changed the maf but the symptoms stayed the same. I havent read codes again and I also think my scanner is pretty poor as it gave zero misfire codes even though it even ignites in the exhaust manifold occasionally and puffs black smoke when reved.
    Edit: m43b19 engine in mine

2:22 Could be too much air or not enough fuel eg low fuel pressure.... could even be a faulty plug or coil misfiring, causing unburnt fuel and oxygen to pass through to the oxygen sensor, making the car think the mixture is too lean...

I do not want to over complicate my videos for a DIY user, I may make a video in the future that relates to just fuel trim understanding and diagnosing.
I am aware of the huge amount of possibilities that can cause fuel trim fault codes to log.
Fuel Trim fault codes are logged if the fuel trim correction limits are exceeded.
Meaning you can list - fuel related faults, EVAP systems (seen in a recent video) Map Sensor (seen in another video), compression faults, ignition faults, Oxy Sensor, any leak before the upstream Oxy sensor.
We use experience and info to make real time decisions, these can turn into a really quick find and fix like in this video (rough idle that evens out when increasing RPM is a high % chance of an intake leak) most times we need to go much further and test many components but sometimes we get lucky :)
Thanks for watching Aman, I appreciate your input.

I had the same problem with my intake boot (holes and cracks) I changed it out and now it seems to have throttle hesitation and has died on me twice when I try to excelerate from a stop light
Does the ECU have to relearn after replacing that boot correcting the air flow?

Amazing stuff boss. My e46 saloon starts of very sluggish then as you pull away accelerating the power picks up. It's really irritating especially on traffic where most cars leave you stranded!!! What could this be?

HELLO THERE, I JUST FIND YOUR VIDEO PRETTY MUCH INTERESTING. HERE IS MY CAR'S PROBLEM: HAVE a 2003 325i. PRETTY MUCH SIMILAR LIKE YOU HAVE SHOWN HERE. LOSING POWER WHEN I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL DOES NOT GO OVER 50. ALSO WANT to MENTION THAT SPEETDOMETER DOESN'T WORK. DOESN'T HAVE a CD PLAYER. THIS CAR WAS parTked OVER 2 YEARS. SO I JUST STARTED TO MAKE THE OIL SERVICE. IF YOU READ MY MESSAGE I REALLY APPRECIATE, IF YOU'LL BE KIND TO TELL ME, WHAT KIND OF SCANNER DO YOU RECOMMEND ME. NOT EXPENSIVE ONE, NEITHER CHEAPEST ONE. . THANK YOU 👍>by the way I'm a new subscriber 👍

I got this when I scanned my E46 , no powertrain DTCs or freeze frame data is presently stored in the vehicle's computer .. what does this mean ? Btw i don't have a check engine light on my car

You want the short term fuel trim to be near 0, not the long term.
