The catfish move from structure to structure looking for food. When river fishing, I actually place my sinker at the end of the line and the hook about two feet up on a ssix to eight inch leader. Many people believe that catfish only feed on the bottom but that is not true, They have a built in air bladder that allows them to suspend themselves at any depth with no effort what so ever.

thanks for the compliments. You know I never really paid too much attention to the bullheads, but several people have commented on it and now that I'm taking a step back and looking at it, I could have probably had a state record on my hands. Haha oh well, the good thing is that I catch those fairly often where I go fishing. So next time I'll be ready to have it properly examined by the game and fish. That just might be my first record breaker! Thanks for watching!

Muddy River Catfishing ~ Kris Flores
You have earned my respect as a fisherman, and also by how you treat people.
It look’s like the time and effort you have invested in this business seems to be paying off.
I wish you the very best as you move forward.
Tight lines, and enough water to fish in!

I know it looks like a lot of trash and I even called it a bottle, but acually its a foam that is created when they first open the dam and allow the river to flow again. I havent been able to figure out what its made of but i've been thinking about making some kind of bait with it because the carp love it.

I'm fishing the Colorado river in grand junction Colorado. It's winter now of course and the water is finally at a good clear it's due to it not raining so much but the water is around 40 degrees. Where can I find channel cats in the colder water from the banks? I've had a lot of luck at some holes in the summer/spring time but no luck with the water being so cold. I've used everything from cheese baits to punch baits to cut bait (bluegill and sucker) I'm limited to my bait being here in this small town. No live bait is allowed here in Colorado so cut bait is very scares here. What do you suggest? Deeper water? Shallows? I'm looking to land a nice one. They don't get too big here. State record is only 32lbs. Just looking for a couple 15+ pounders. Thanks in advance :)

if there isnt an obvious "s" pattern to the main channel is this method of locating the holes consistent regardless of blatant patterns? my home river generally speaking flows "straight" but in many areas it is obvious where the main channel is and where the slacker water starts, shallow rapids, etc. sometimes it is hard to tell because in many cases the surface can look the same.

The most popular catfish baits are: chicken livers, nightcrawlers, cutbait, or fresh shrimp. Try using a few of these baits and see which one works best in your area.

Cutbait. If you have blues and Flatheds all three will eat cutbait. Skipjack is best if the river system has them, followed by shad. The fresher the better. Also where you pointed out the top of the hole there are weeds hanging in the water. I catch a lot of channel cats in the rivers up here fishing three-five feet from the bank or closer when the waters high and muddy. They are up there feeding on insects and amphibians. Though in my experiance cutbait cathes the most, and largest fish.

Its made of dissolved organic wastes, check out a video on a protein skimmer for a saltwater fish tank. bubbles introduced to the water attract the organic waste, which in a saltwater tank is whats used to help keep the water clean.

hey what do you think of a long bend then the river runs into the bank then the current goes on down then comes right back into that bank...then it slows down past the curve then it splits with a island in between....where do you think a guy should fish on that spot?

I think it depends on the time of year. if the fish are spawning they will run off any fish that gets close. But other times of the year they school together. Flathead catfish like to stay in the same few areas. If you catch that flathead a flathead of similar size will occupy the now empty space. Good question by the way!-++++

I often use Bobbers to catch catfish. I believe that getting your bait off of the bottom really helps put the bait in a place that's easier for the fish to access it. Even if it's only a foot or so
