    I just got my second power conditioner used for only $20. I'm not sure where I'm going to fit it into my system but it was a great deal. I've spent a lot on power this year.
    Off topic - Sometimes when you move in your chair you can see the monitors shake. Need more mass on the stands. I need to do this too, I'm thinking cinderblocks or garden bricks that have a hole in the middle.

    Power conditioners that are in the $80-150 range are basically rack-mountable surge protectors.

    Funny enough now Furmann offers conditioners with voltage regulator. And for about 200 to 500 USD. I'm looking at the Plus Pl CE myself. And adding a online/live UPS too since surges and noise in my house and studio monitors and the light bulb loosing power to a vacum are hunting me

      Hi, I just stumbled onto this video as I am building my rehearsal space. I have a basement set up that is relatively noise free, until I turn on my lights, to which a ton of noise is generated thru my amplifiers. What should I do to help mitigate that noise? I thought the power conditioner would help with that. I hope you see this and can help me. Cheers!

      No actually joes right let me give you an example, so awhile back I got a preamp and I plugged into the wall outlet with no surge protector and man it would have random static from time to time when the vacuum went on or the tv in the other room sooo soon as I plugged it into a surge protector I didn’t have no static or anything, keep in mind I’ve never used any studio equipment without a surge protector till that day and sure enough it does filter and protect your equipment, so idk if you just looked up what you stated or if you have real life studio experience

    Computers have a voltage regulator module on the motherboard for the cpu, power filtering built into the power supply, etc.. so a power

    Thanks so much, exactly the info i was looking for, very clear! :) At the moment I live in a small 1 bedroom flat and I have no choice but the plug in all my music and home studio gear in the same electrical circuit as my fridge...which gives out lot's of EMI! When i'm playing guitar I just unplug the fridge and it solves the problem... but it's a bit of a hassle to always have to unplug the fridge... so do you reckon that if I use a line conditioner like the pne you have it may solve my problem? Maybe even plug the fridge in to the power conditioner? Many thanks :)

    thanks for the video!! it was helpful!!
    there are often pops/clicks in my recordings due to power problems...
    using a power strip with filters just reduces the noises by a little...
    do you think a furman unit can fix that?
    btw, a voltage regulator is not all that great, i used (a cheap) one, and spikes and surges still come through... which turned off my guitar amps... disconnected my interface... lots of bad stuff

    Quick question. I have just a basic set up at home right now. I am using a presonus firestudio project interface and I have two KRK Rokit 8 monitors. Is it okay to leave the power switch turned on on the back of my monitors and my interface and just use the power conditioner to turn everything on at once? I am assuming that this is what people normally do. Is it safe to have my monitors and interface turn on at the same time? Thanks. Your videos are awesome by the way.

  • @anhy10ful
    @anhy10ful 4 роки тому

    I absolutely agree that the Power Conditioner is very important as you mention, but have you ever used some kind of devices to measure the noise in one of those Power Conditioners? You will be disappointed when you find out. I have three Furman products (PST-8, PST-8D, ELITE 20). I found the noise in them was higher than my actual wall outlets. The Monster brand is lightly better, but still quite a bit noise.

    • @heythere6983
      @heythere6983 2 роки тому

      What do you mean noise in them
      Though. For example my Furman does clean up the sound but if I get close to it with my guitar my guitar picks up the noise from the Furman , so the machine emits it’s own thing BUT it doesn’t infact clean up sound coming through the line .
      So I wonder what the relevance is by measuring its own noise if that noise isn’t really going into your setup

    • @anhy10ful
      @anhy10ful 2 роки тому

      @@heythere6983 It's EMI noise, Electromagnetic Interference that gets into your audio equipment. If you have an EMI Power Line Noise Analyzer, you can measure the level of EMI noise from your wall outlet and see how good your Furman do to filter it out. To get good sound out of your audio equipment, you want the EMI noise as low as possible. The products I mention in my comment did not do good in filtering EMI, the level was still high. Watch other youtube below at 1:30 for example.

      You can absolutely run power strips off of it. The only real limitation is the max wattage of the Furman itself, which in a typical recording studio you won't hit. If you're running a full PA system, you might hit the limit.

    • @heythere6983
      @heythere6983 2 роки тому +1

      A ups can isolate you totally from bad electricity depending on what type you get and provide somewhat stable electricity . A ups is also meant to let you have a few minutes to run your devices after power goes out fully .
      A power conditioner typically tries to clean up extra noisy electricity and may have surge protection

      The important thing is the filtering of the power. It’s the difference between being able to record a professional and clean signal and an amateur one. Also the efficiency of the circuitry within your gear and equipment is optimized when running on clean power. They’re honestly a very essential part of a good recording. Hope I was helpful. 👍

    that noise thing is the weirdest theory I've ever heard? I'm guessing that only occurs if you got tons of gear running.

    Fuzzy image on a old CRT TV had nothing to do with it being an old CRT monitor TV and not a LCD TV. Everything back then for most people was analogue and a lot used an antenna to pull the signal in. Today, EVERY tuner is digital so you don't 'see' that analogue 'noise'. Your example is sort of correct but not for the right reasons.

      Hi, I know i'm not the video creator, but I studied audio technology and digital electronics in college. In short, yes and no. Its a very known fact that wall power is extremely dirty, dirty to the point where using a special device you plug into a wall outlet, you can hear a ton of noise even to the point of getting AM radio transmissions. An actual power conditioner that is no cheaper than $500 can reduce these frequencies and hisses down to the point of becoming non audible therefore having no noise floor in your devices. The bad side is, if you buy a cheap "power conditioner" like "Furman" off amazon for $100, you've done nothing but buy a glorified surge protector. It does basically nothing to eliminate noise floor. In short, you would have to spend at least $500 to eliminate a noise floor *and* use balanced TRS cables to your monitors to eliminate everything. Its a very difficult task that basically take a lot of money to solve. I hope this helps.

    Well, a power conditioner is going to be useless as an insurance device if your gear smashes to the floor like it almost did at 3:47.

    They are not LED screens that you watching. The ones you call LED screens are LCD screens that are white lit with LED as opposed to the older LCD screens that were CCFL backlit. The image is not made by the LEDs, it is made by the LCD panel and white light passing through the LCD illuminates the LCD membrane. Please don't fall for the Samsung and LG BS marketing to sell LCD screens as some new tech by calling the back or edge lighting as the technology of the screen. You didn't call LCD screens when they came out on the market as Cold Cathode Florescent Light (CCFL) screens did you? You probably didn't even call the old tube monitors 'CRT' monitors either when they were they only option.
