This recipe is for a 6″ Round cake baked to a depth of 3″or just under. Baked in an Invicta cake tin 4″ deep.

175g caster sugar
3 medium eggs
175g self-raising flour

The dome is definitely not a waste! I like a lot of filling in my cakes, so use the dome to mix with a tiny bit of buttercream and then use as ‘gap filler’, before crumb coating. No rings or dips in the fondant

stop making assumptions....there is no marketing scam so get that out of your suspicious mind...if you are rattled by my opinion that there is an easier method to making madeira cake than your prolonged method then get over your anger 😁

My daughter would like a shaped cake birthday cake with either Oreos or chocolate chips in it. Would either work with this cake batter or will they just sink to the bottom due to the long baking time?

Maderia recipes can vary hugely and all very dependant on the other ingredients used. We find this recipe is structurally sound for stacking and carving and tastes great too.
How would you make this into a chocolate one?

will the paper not burn?
Best to use parchment paper, but newspaper can be used on the outside of the tin and will no burn at baking temperatures.
