I don't know what it is but John's voice gets deep into your soul. It was incredible and so moving, enough to make any grown man cry. This song was one of his best as well. Why oh why do we have to lose our very very best vocal icons in their prime? If only they were still with us.....🥲🥲
Perhaps, like other remarkable people he shot through our skies and consciousness for a brief period of time like a meteor, leaving a vapor of his essence for us to remember him.
We haven't lost him......shortly after discovering his life and music he cane to me in a dream and spoke to me so I am convinced he is still with us but in another sphere
He was 52 when he performed this and yet sang as good as when he was 25. Sad that he would die the year after this live show. I have sung a little bit of Denver in my young life but this song is always the one that gets stuck in my head and reminds me of how great a performer John Denver really was. Bye John, you will be missed!
I remember seeing this show in Sydney in Nov 94, just before my grandma died, it was that one last bucket list item she hadn't ticked off - she died Feb 95...
Seriously though , a few special songs can uplift the spirit.. Calypso makes the spirit SOAR.. IMHO, one of the most powerful and best contemporary songs ever ....
To sail on a dream on a crystal clear ocean, to ride on the crest of the wild raging storm. To work in the service of life and the living, in search of the answers to questions unknown. To be part of the movement and part of the growing, part of beginning to understand. Aye, Calypso, the places you've been to, the things that you've shown us, the stories you tell. Aye, Calypso, I sing to your spirit, the men who have served you so long and so well. Like the dolphin who guides you, you bring us beside you to light up the darkness and show us the way. For though we are strangers in your silent world, to live on the land we must learn from the sea. To be true as the tide and free as a wind swell, joyful and loving in letting it be. Aye, Calypso, the places you've been to, the things that you've shown us, the stories you tell. Aye, Calypso, I sing to your spirit, the men who have served you so long and so well. I agree why did he have to die that way.i loved him sooooo much.miss seeing him.he was a beautiul person he loved everything i was foutunate to see him 32 Times.love him and hes always with me.
Try BW Stevinson "Shambala" and the his other great song "MY Maria" for some more world class yodeling. These songs never get covered, because nobody has pipes like that.
There has never been anyone better...twenty years later...I still feel the loss...heart, soul, love, that is, and ever will be John

I absolutely love John Denver's music and I miss him terribly. Thanks for posting!
Made my day. Thank you for the memories.
Why did we have to lose him? So full of heart, and so masterful on stage.
He's still in our hearts.
Perhaps, like other remarkable people he shot through our skies and consciousness for a brief period of time like a meteor, leaving a vapor of his essence for us to remember him.
I know. He left too soon.
He was flying an experimental plane he helped design
We haven't lost him......shortly after discovering his life and music he cane to me in a dream and spoke to me so I am convinced he is still with us but in another sphere

I'm gonna do this at the John Denver Folk Festival in Parker, CO this June. I have always loved the spirit of this song!
Wish I could be there. Live in PA. Love JD.
One of the Greats
Man. What a voice.

one of my favorite song
Every note he sings is on the money, simply outstanding talent
So perfect. And seems effortless. R.I.P.
I have no idea how I had never heard this before. I can't stop crying - Loss of JD, the fact that Jacques Yves Cousteau is just a footnote.
beautiful , beautiful song, beautiful fantastic voice ..he was also very funny . saw him as a guest on some shows. self depreciating humour
